Friday Faves

Heyyyy! Happy Friday! Hope youโ€™ve had a wonderful week! Iโ€™d love to hear what youโ€™ve been up to.

Weโ€™re just chillinโ€™ in San Diego, beach-ing, shopping, adventuring, and eating all of the amazing food.

Beach girls

San diego

Itโ€™s so weird because I feel like weโ€™ve been gone for so long, but at the same time, itโ€™s like weโ€™ve never left. I can still drive around without needing my GPS all the time, and it feels comforting to have such a familiarity about the location while weโ€™ve been on *vacation.* Usually the initial part of a trip is spent figuring out where to go and the various neighborhoods; weโ€™ve been able to jump back into our tried and true faves. (At the same time, I think weโ€™ve gone zero new places haha.) Weโ€™re having such an amazing time hanging out with all of our friends and chilling at our standard spots.

Some of the things weโ€™ve done so far:

The zoo! We spent half of Sunday at the zoo, and it was perfection.

Liv's gorilla face

The weather was beautiful (we call it โ€œheaven-ty degreesโ€) and the girls loved seeing the animals. We used to come to the zoo all the time when we were members, but P was so little that she doesnโ€™t remember it at all. Since sheโ€™s definitely aware and very into her surroundings, it felt like she was seeing everything for the first time.

Sleepy panda

P and the goat

A lemur hopped up onto the fence and the look on her face was pure gold. Like, โ€œOmg, what is that thing?!”

girls and a goat

Weโ€™ve been going to a lot of the usual places:

Tiki Port for smoothies and acai bowls,

Acai bowl

Liberty Public Market (a few times) for poke bowls, kombucha on tap, and baked goods from Crafted,

Public market

Dinner in Old Town,

the Childrenโ€™s Museum,

Kid Ventures,

the girlsโ€™ favorite park at Liberty Station + Point Loma Sports Club,

Postmates pho and lettuce wraps from OB Noodle House,

swimming at the hotel pool,

taking fitness classes,

Barre tank

(so far itโ€™s been Orangetheory and barre at Barre Body, where I used to teach)

Gymming it

Better Buzz (every day. Not even a little sorry)

Better buzz

Avocado toast

and just hanging out at Betsyโ€™s house.

with my love

We were all curled up on the couch one night watching a movie, and it definitely felt like the good olโ€™ days. She had a little Valentineโ€™s get-together at her house the other night, and invited all of Livโ€™s friends from school + our parent friends. It felt like we just picked up where we left off, and we enjoyed pizza, wine, desserts, and great conversation while the kiddos ran around like crazy.

Dessert party

Moniker General

(They have food and cocktails now! The kale salad was amazing.)

I think that maybe Iโ€™d be ready to go home after being here for a while, but nope. Not even close. I asked Liv if she was having fun, and she said, โ€œSan Diego is the most magical place ever. I donโ€™t want to go back to Georgia.โ€ Real talk…

Iโ€™m glad we still have some time here, and we’re soaking.it.up.

Some more faves from the week and around the web:

Food/recipes:

Four Sigmatic has decaf! Iโ€™d been missing my mushroom coffee since I stopped drinking caffeine last summer. I was so pumped to see that they have a decaf version. I didnโ€™t want to bring the bag with us in my suitcase (especially when Better Buzz is around the corner), but Iโ€™m excited to give it a whirl when weโ€™re back.

Four sigmatic decaf mushroom coffee

(On a random note: in my Fri Faves post about the dip nail polish, I was asked to update on how hard they were to take off and how they lasted. They started peeling at the bottom, so I took them off to see if it would be a PITA. It took a long time, but it wasnโ€™t too bad. For our trip, I got dip nails professionally just to see how they did it. YOU GUYS. It took over an hour! I was sitting there trying not to be impatientโ€ฆ itโ€™s hard for me to sit still while someone messes with my hands for an hour. And theyโ€™re bumpy and one cracked already. Sooooo Iโ€™ll be continuing to do them myself. Iโ€™m interested to see if these ones take even longer to take off because I think she put a gel top coat on them.)

These crackers. When I saw these at Trader Joeโ€™s, I figured Iโ€™d try them out, especially after trying (and despising) these fibrous creations. Theyโ€™re SO good. They taste awesome with a smear of peanut butter and some strawberries, but an IG friend said I need to try them with Kerrygold butter and a sprinkle of salt. YAS.

gluten-free crispbread

Protein-packed breakfast ideas.

These almond joy bars look magical.

Try making enchiladas with homemade sauce. Itโ€™s a game-changer, I tell ya.

Great healthy recipe ideas in this post.

Read + watch:

Book suggestions to build character.

Favorite kidsโ€™ audiobooks. (Iโ€™m going to download some new ones to listen to while the girls and I are driving around.)

Truthful thoughts about Valentineโ€™s Day.

Fitness:

A quick power yoga video (30 minutes).

Try this upper body burner from Winter Shape Up!

Running could help us cope with stress. (Iโ€™m a believer that all aerobic exercise can do this!)

The Bachelor workout. I still havenโ€™t watched this past weekโ€™s episode! Please donโ€™t give me too many spoilers, but rate on a scale of 1-10 for the drama factor.

Studies that could change the way you work out.

Have a wonderful Friday and Iโ€™ll see ya later this weekend with meals and fitness for the week!

xo

I got the Revel Nail Dip all from your recommendation and while I do LOVE it, boy did I have a tough time getting it off. I filed the tops of the nails and then wrapped them with an acetone cotton ball and foil. I let them sit on my nails for 5-7 minutes and then worked on getting the polish off. It came off in pieces, somewhat hurt, and tore a bit of my nail at the same time. How did you remove them b/c I feel like your experience was much better than mine?!

I have been removing my dip nails for a while and the best trick is to file the top layer with a super coarse file (labeled for use with acrylics – I get them at Sally beauty for around $1 and they last a long time) and then actually soak the nails in a bowl with acetone. I put coconut oil on my cuticles first so they don’t get dry and after soaking a few minutes wipe the nails with a paper towel (and keep soaking until the dip powder is all off). Takes me less than 10 minutes and its never been painful – I hope this is somewhat helpful!

I’m excited to see an update on the DIY Dip powder! I go get mine done (took forever to find the right person – but I have finally found someone awesome) but I am trying to save up for a house down payment and the $48 I spend on a dip mani needs to be cut (or at least saved for special occasions!) I would love to hear any tips you have for DIYing them – I am ordering a kit today and cant wait to try!

I usually get gel nails and they are the best they last FOREVER, but waiting for them to soak off is annoying! My friend bought a kit and I’m thinking of doing that because that way I could let them soak off while watching TV instead of sitting there with nothing to do at the nail salon!

I loved the book suggestions to build character and added a few to my Audible cart. SD looks so great; I’m headed there in a few weeks and can’t wait! Keep having so much fun!

I bought the nail dip kit after reading your blog. It is awesome!! I havenโ€™t tried taking them off but Iโ€™m super impressed so far! Iโ€™ve never Er had a good experience in the nail salons with dip nails. . . I love the way I did them though! Plus I feel like Iโ€™m saving tons

This week’s Bachelor was a good one! Not sure what rating I’d give? But it was good and entertaining as always. Next Monday is hometown visits! My favorite!

    Enjoy SD ๐Ÿ™‚ TGIF

I used to get my nails done then decided it wasn’t worth the time, money and effort I was spending to get them done. My nails were getting brittle and cracked. My nails are just better naked. ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™m the same way- I used to get them done but time effort etc all too much- I do mines from time to time and itโ€™s therapeutic! While I keep them naked in between! I love them naked too!
