Stop Looking at Me Swan

Hi friends Smile How was your day??

Mine was pretty glorious. Zumba, errands, dinner and a movie with a friend = good day.

Snackage:

popcorn

Popcorn from Starbucks- Iโ€™m in LOVE with the salt and pepper flavor. This particular bag made me sad thoughโ€ฆ it was a little (lot) on the stale side.

I still ate it.

The classic:

larabar

For dinner, Michele and I had Sweet Tomatoes– we were both in the mood for salad beasts.

salad

Greens, jicama, carrots, egg, beets, mushrooms and balsamic

+ creamy tomato soup

soup

(it was the only veg option)

2 sweet potatoes

sweet potatoes

Amazing. 100%.

After dinner, we saw Black Swan.

Um, I have no words.

Since Iโ€™ve danced pretty much my whole life (previously way more intensely than I do now), I freak out a little whenever a new dance movie comes out.

To put it mildly, this was NOT Center Stage.

Intense, dramatic, eye-covering (Michele and I each had to cover our eyes a few times), jumpy, crazy redonk. Itโ€™s the type of movie that youโ€™re still thinking about a week later. Which means it was definitely good, but I wouldnโ€™t see it again.

I am WAY excited for this movie though- they showed the preview tonight:

R-Patz is hawt

The book is excellent and Robert Pattinson is dreamtastic. Stoked.

Iโ€™m off to bed, but Iโ€™ll see ya tomorrow Smile

xoxo

Gina

Gina the way you reviewed the movie is spot on! Okay.. totally NOT CENTER STAGE, good, dramatic and thought-provoking, but nothing I would ever see (sit through) again. Glad I saw it, glad I don’t have to see it again – ha!

    G’night!

  2. Alicia @ Addsomesprinkles. on December 18, 2010 at 1:39 am

Ohh I wanna see that one with Reese Witherspoon too! I LOVE center stage, I’m not a dancer at all but its one of my favorite movies. I’m not sure I’ll see black swan though. Ps I just discovered Lara bars um yesterday, I didn’t realize they were gluten free until now. Have a good sleep ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. BIOCHEMISTA on December 18, 2010 at 2:59 am

I LOVED Water for Elephants! Almost as much as I love/idolize (haha) Reese Witherspoon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha at ‘Robert Pattinson is dreamtastic’! ๐Ÿ˜€
I want to see that movie! Can’t wait till it comes out over here in England!

  7. grocery goddess jen on December 18, 2010 at 7:29 am

Somehow I had no idea Water for Elephants was even coming out! It looks amazing. And I’m dying too see Black Swan (and The Fighter, 127 Days, The King’s Speech…) but haven’t made it to see it yet!

  8. Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl on December 18, 2010 at 7:32 am

I thought FOR SURE your post would be about Adam Sandler ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for the head’s up on Water for Elephants…I’ll have to make sure to go pick it up to read before the movie comes out!

  9. Ali @ Ali on the Run on December 18, 2010 at 7:38 am

I’m a former dancer, too, and I’m FINALLY seeing Black Swan tomorrow! I’m so glad that dance movies are getting respect!

  10. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on December 18, 2010 at 7:58 am

Center Stage was one of my favorites as a kid, but I’m almost scared to see Black Swan. I kind of love psychological thrillers though- Shutter Island is my jam, so hopefully I’ll like Black Swan too.

The title for this post = awesomeness. My brother used to say that to me when I was little.

  11. Genevieve on December 18, 2010 at 8:14 am

I loved Black Swan! I wouldn’t mind seeing it again (now that I know which parts are tougher to watch). The design of the black swan costume (don’t want to get into details not to steal the movie’s fire) blew my mind away. So did Nathalie Portman’s acting. I’m really looking forward to Blue Valentine. Ryan Gosling… Le sigh ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wish we had a Sweet Toms here in Virginia! It looks like such a great place to eat when you don’t feel like going anywhere too fancy schmancy.

You are my movie twin! I’m seeing Black Swan tonight but Water for Elephants is what has me most excited! I loved the book and the movie looks like it’s going to be beautiful!

  13. The Pilot on December 18, 2010 at 8:41 am

Glad you girls had fun and I know what you mean about all the new movies coming out. They just released “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” out here. I can’t wait for “Look Who’s Talking”. Love!

Stale popcorn. Delish. kidding ๐Ÿ™‚ Oh that sucks..don’t you hate it when you pay decent money for something and it’s a litle…lackluster? I do! I hope you enjoyed your Lara ๐Ÿ™‚

The movie. I am soooo outta the loop. And also not being in the US for the past few weeks and not seeing any American TV other than CNN, I didnt even know it was out. Thanks for the review and your thoughts. Means a lot because of your dance background what you thought of it.

Have a super Sat. and weekend, Gina. Your 1st one in your new pad! I bet you’re excited!

  15. Laura J. on December 18, 2010 at 8:46 am

I can’t wait to see Water for Elephants! It looks so good! Love Reese Witherspoon and any movie Edward- er I mean Robert Pattinson is in– I’m there ๐Ÿ˜‰ haha. I hear the book is super good- I want to try and read it before it comes out in theaters.

  18. Jenna on December 18, 2010 at 9:24 am

I so wanna see Black Swan! I used to be a dancer (i did pretty much everything, ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap, irish dance, lalllaaa.), and am still kind of in love with it. I miss it so much & wish I wouldnt have quit….but anyway! It looks so good. Oh, and that movie trailer of whatever it was looked super good too.

  19. Heather (Perspective Is Everything) on December 18, 2010 at 9:38 am

ha! nice billy madison reference. one of my faves ๐Ÿ™‚
salads look awesome. i haven’t had a really good salad in forever.

  20. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on December 18, 2010 at 10:02 am

First, I love the title. “Shampoo is better. I go on first and clean the hair…”
    haha

Second, I always claim to not be a movie person, but the ones I love, I love. I have a feeling this would be the case with Black Swan.

I grew up in a really small town, where dancing practically didn’t exist. No teams, no classes, nada. I was a cheerleader and gymnast (and loved and excelled in both), but had I had the opportunity to get into dancing…well, I know I would have gone far. ๐Ÿ™

Whatev, maybe one of these days. You’re never too old to dance, right?!

  21. Carla on December 18, 2010 at 10:21 am

WOW now im scared to see the movie LOL Maybe the hubs and I can go see it together. Do you think a man would like it? or is it totally a chick flick you see with the girls ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Krystina (Basil & Wine) on December 18, 2010 at 10:28 am

I REALLY want to see Black Swan! There are so many good movies coming out.

  23. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table on December 18, 2010 at 10:30 am

    Glad you are loving AZ!

  24. Katie on December 18, 2010 at 10:45 am

I absolutely loved Water for Elephants!!! Can’t wait for that movie!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. eatrundesign on December 18, 2010 at 10:53 am

I guess word of warning to those who plan of seeing Black Swan and expecting to see a feel good ballet. It goes along the genre of the director’s previous films like Pi and Requiem for Dream. Lots of scenes of intense sexuality and is a very dark psychological thriller. I LOVED it and it totally lived up to my expectations. Half the audience were ladies my grandma’s age so you can imagine the gasps of horror I heard when they saw Kunis and Portman making out. An artsy film that really has a film festival indie feel.

  26. aj on December 18, 2010 at 11:12 am

yes!!!! I loved the book Water for Elephants, I will HAVE to see that!

Also, LOL on your post title. : 0

one of my besties is a dancer (mostly ballet, but she also does “modern ballet” – kinda a made up genre) She always drags me along to these dance movies because she doesn’t want her boyfriend to hate her : ) I haven’t seen Black Swan yet – sounds interesting though! (although you were kinda cryptic in your reviews, lol)

    • Fitnessista on December 18, 2010 at 5:44 pm

i’m cryptic with movie reviews on purpose- i don’t want to ruin anything for anyone!

  30. Haleigh on December 18, 2010 at 12:38 pm

The cinema is one of my very favorite things ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve wanted to see Black Swan since I first heard about the movie. I adore any movie with Natalie Portman. She’s such a great actress! So, is Mila Kunis. After reading some reviews though, it seems kinda dark. But I still wanna see it!

  31. Rachael on December 18, 2010 at 12:40 pm

If you liked Water for Elephants, you should read Riding Lessons by the same author -it’s not as awesome, but still a great story! The trailer looks fabulous – it’s nice to see Robert Pattinson without the ghost-white make-up on!

  32. Namaste Gurl on December 18, 2010 at 1:27 pm

What, I had no idea Water For Elephants was being turned into a movie! You got me REALLY excited ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun on December 18, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Oh, I’m going to want to see that! Both, actually.

And Robert pattinson is dreamy…although he really, really, really reminds me of my ex.

  34. ronnie on December 18, 2010 at 1:45 pm

I’ll have to read Water for Elephants first… I *heart* Reese.

  35. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on December 18, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Oh, and I saw it two weeks ago, and thoughts of that movie are still creeping into my brain! It haunts you!!

  36. Alexandrina @ The Cardio Queen on December 18, 2010 at 1:57 pm

  39. Christine (The Raw Project) on December 18, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Yum, I could go through so much popcorn. But from Starbucks? I didn’t know they sold it. I’ve been considering seeing Black Swan, I know it’ll be awesome, but I just haven’t been the mood for something so serious. Thanks for the review.

I’m the same way with dance movies! I danced for 16 years before stopping in college, and I FREAK OUT when a ballet movie comes on a tv/comes to theaters. Glad to see I’m not the only former dancer obsessed with dance movies!!

While you wouldn’t watch it a second time, would you recommend it?

Is that Starbucks’ own brand of popcorn, or another brand that they sell?

  49. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on December 20, 2010 at 11:26 am

Oh girl I so hear you on Black Swan – I just saw it this weekend and was so excited for a dance movie. Let’s just say that I do not deal with blood and guts very well though so I came out of it SHAKING. It was beautiful in a lot of ways, but yeah could have done with out some of that imagery. I am stoked for Water for Elephants though! Loved that book and do not mind RPattz in the starring role. ๐Ÿ™‚ Tasty!

Ive been wanting to read Water for Elephants… I guess this is the time because I will need to see the movie if Edward is in it ๐Ÿ™‚
