And we’re back

….. in VALDOSTA!

me (2)

I’m thrilled, can you tell?!

Haha, despite the pouty face, I’m actually really happy to be back in our HOME. I just love our casa- it’s so comfy and glorious 😀

Wishin’ I could enjoy another one of these cocktails right about now…..

IMG00026-20100111-0147

That my friends is a PINK MARGARITA!!! Reposado, agave nectar, orange blossom water, bitters and an orange peel that they LIT ON FIRE before squeezing the oils out of it to rim the glass with salt. AMAZING!!! 😀 The pilot and I went out for drinks last night- he enjoyed a beer and I enjoyed one of those bad johnnies.

We spent a vast majority of today on a plane, with little Bella under the seat in front of us.

plane

Before leaving, I lived up my last half day of civilization and family time 😀

My bro’s girlfriend and I went to her first Bikram class at Yoga Vida. She did amazing and class was pretty awesome, despite the fact that our teach was a little out there 😉 She was very sweet though and it felt so good to sweat my face off.

After practice, we met up with the fam at my favorite breakfast place ever: THE GOOD EGG!

Are you ready for this order?? Because you know I’m notorious for making up my own meals 🙂

A “veggie interesting” omelet with egg whites, cooked in spray instead of oil, no cheese, no sour cream with a green salad with balsamic on the side instead of the hash browns

IMG00027-20100111-1324

(Didn’t munch the croutons)

and a wheat pancake instead of the english muffin

IMG00028-20100111-1325

And a side of moaning in breakfast ecstasy 😉

After bfast, I rushed to the health food store for some goodies, we packed up, checked out of the hotel and we went to the airport.

On the first plane, I munched a peanut butter and jelly Larabar.

larabar

It was my first time trying this flavor and I was a fan. Totally tasted like PB&J 😀

I also had a bite of the pilot’s Biscoff cookie to see what all the hoopla was about…. It was meh. Tasted like a packaged cookie- nothing too crazy. If I’m gonna have a packaged cookie, it’s going to say Liz Lovely on it 🙂

Now we’re back at the casa and laundry is staring me in the face. I’m gonna fight it 😉

See ya tomorrow with my regular blogging action and I’ll be sure to get a Workout Move of the Week video in here sometime soon!

Have a wonderful night!

xoxo,

Gina

Today’s tip: When it comes to healthy living, drop the all or nothing attitude. This one was particularly hard for me, being a supreme Type A, because I usually feel like when I do something, I have to do it all the way. So not the case. If you get off the wagon a little with your eats for the day, hop back on the wagon as soon as you can. When I first started getting healthy, an unhealthy meal was an excuse for me to gorge on pizza or chips the rest of the day. Skipping the gym for a couple of days lead to an entire week. Now I know that if you get back in the swing of things as soon as possible, a few slip ups here and there don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Stick with it 😀

    Totally agree about Biscoff!

  2. Nicci on January 11, 2010 at 11:14 pm

Great tip for the day. I felt like eating some chocolate and I did, but I knew not to feel guilty & keep eating right. You’re right about getting back on the wagon. Glad you are back from your trip, always nice to sleep in your own bed.

  3. Danielle (Coffee Run) on January 11, 2010 at 11:38 pm

I def. used to have an “all or nothing” attitude toward health (I’m completely a type A personality too).
Liz Lovely cookies are crackkkk I tell you

  4. Chloe (Naturally Frugal) on January 11, 2010 at 11:44 pm

    Great tip Gina!
Along those same lines, I have a question about the croutons. I know you eat white flour rarely if ever, but am wondering if skipping small things like croutons is just because you don’t want to have white flour at all or if you’re afraid that once you eat white flour you won’t stop.
    Does that make sense?
Sorry you’re home, wouldn’t it be great to be on vacation all the time!?

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2010 at 9:22 am

      hey chloe,
i know what you mean 😀 i hardly ever have white flour…because it’s garbage. why have the refined blood sugar spiking stuff when you can just have whole grain? so if i am going to have a little white flour, i prefer it in the form of a delicious dessert..not some croutons from a box 🙂

  5. Julia on January 11, 2010 at 11:57 pm

Welcome back! I know what you mean about being back in your own house. There’s just something about it that thanks you for not being in transit anymore. Also, the PB&J larabar is one of my favorites! Totally makes me feel like I’m in a JIF commercial. And I mean that in the most heartwarming and nostalgia inducing way…not the fully hydrogenated oils kind of way.

  6. The Hot and Fit on January 12, 2010 at 12:38 am

I definitely agree about the “all or nothing” attitude – it is VERY important

  7. Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen on January 12, 2010 at 12:39 am

love the tip…i’m totally the same way! i’m pretty excited about the move of the week 🙂

  8. One Healthy Apple on January 12, 2010 at 12:40 am

That margarita looks fabulous! I love pretty drinks and rarely get them but now I’m craving something good! I have ups and downs but sometimes falling off the wagon is good for my sanity!

  9. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 12, 2010 at 12:43 am

did i miss something…biscoff’s being the rage??!! LOL. They are only good for soaking up alcohol if you’ve drank too much on your flight b/c they are nothing but flour and cinnamon. Well, that was my theory 10 yrs ago when i used to eat them.

Sorry you’re back in V Town after a great trip. Ive been following along w/ your hikes, and fun times with your fam. Hang in there, Gina, I know what it’s like living in a place you’re meh about. xoxo 🙂

  10. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on January 12, 2010 at 1:01 am

    I love your tip!

Those pb and j lara bars are the BEST! Yummm!

  11. Haleigh on January 12, 2010 at 3:39 am

Totally agree with you on the tip of the day. I used to have the all or nothing attitude as well. If I had those 2 pieces of chocolate.. it usually ended up being much more than that. I feel that now I am just beginning to allow myself to enjoy a few pieces of chocolate every day if I want it then I don’t end up going back for more.

I am glad to hear that you returned home safely!

  12. Lexi on January 12, 2010 at 5:33 am

LOOOOOOOOOOOVE the big pink drink!! Relax gurl!

Love the healthy tip of the day too 🙂 🙂

  13. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on January 12, 2010 at 6:35 am

Not a fan of the biscoff either…

  14. Paige (Running Around Normal) on January 12, 2010 at 7:54 am

Love the PBJ Lara Bar 😀
Great tip of the day! So true, yet so many people live with this misconception.

  15. Katie on January 12, 2010 at 8:09 am

Great tip of the day! Also, I love the fact that you’re not afraid to ask for what you really want to eat at restaurants…sometimes I feel silly making all kinds of special requests, but it is so worth it in order to enjoy a meal you really want to eat…and one that you’re paying for! Thanks for the inspiration to speak up when ordering! 🙂

  16. Sara on January 12, 2010 at 8:16 am

Great tip! I have struggled with that many times in the past! That breakfast looks delicious!

  17. rhodeygirl on January 12, 2010 at 8:23 am

When I saw the pouty photo I was actually thinking that your home is so beautiful some part of you must be happy to be back !!! 😀

I am always missing home AND home. I miss Rhode Island so much but when I am there I miss my comfy home in Philly too. Weird how our hearts can be in two places at once yes?

Caitlin just gave me a mini PB&J Larabar from the expo- I can’t wait to try it!

  18. katherine on January 12, 2010 at 8:25 am

Your tip today is GREAT. The all-or-nothing attitude has gotten me into trouble more times than I’d like to admit!

  19. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on January 12, 2010 at 8:42 am

I love the tip, I can totally relate.

    And that drink looks amazing!!

    xoxo

  20. Lisa on January 12, 2010 at 8:44 am

Welcome back! Yep, all or nothing puts too much pressure on you. When you don’t stick with your program you tend to beat yourself up about it.

  21. Kalli@fitandfortysomething on January 12, 2010 at 8:45 am

I like the advice about the all or nothing!

  22. jess on January 12, 2010 at 9:05 am

ohman! Liz Lovely cookies are the BEST! We just started selling them @ the store I work and it is SO SO hard to not buy a pack everyday 😉

  23. Liz on January 12, 2010 at 9:28 am

That tip you gave at the end is so true. Often when I feel that I have completely gotten off track it turns out that it really only is a few slip-ups. And I think it’s okay to make a few. I mean, sometimes those slip-ups just taste so good 😉

Looking forward to your next workout video!!

  24. Jaime on January 12, 2010 at 9:48 am

Love today’s tip! That pretty much sums up my philosophy.

Now, could you please come beat my hubby over the head with that tip. He won’t listen to me!

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2010 at 9:49 am

guys are notorious for thinking it’s “over” if they fall off the wagon a little.
one of the many reasons why i just train women 😉

  25. Lauren @ Eater not a runner on January 12, 2010 at 9:55 am

    Love the PB&J Larabar!

And yes I agree completely with your tip! If I get off track I just forgive myself and get back on the healthy train, I feel so much better (and healthier) when I don’t guilt myself about little things!

  26. Joane on January 12, 2010 at 9:59 am

I feel sad when I come home without my family too, but it’s nice to be in your own home. I love the tip of the day!

  27. Sarah on January 12, 2010 at 10:21 am

Yes, I looove the PB&J Larabar. And I totally agree with you about the all or nothing attitude. It just doesn’t work! My husband tries to be this way sometimes but I do my best to talk him out of it.

  28. Brynne on January 12, 2010 at 10:24 am

Margaritas are my favorite drink and that pink one sounds beyond amazing!

  29. Ashley (whole-ier) on January 12, 2010 at 10:40 am

yes loved the tip for the day. I’m just starting out and reading these health blogs sometimes makes me feel that I will never get to the healthy eating habits I want- but it’s just one day at a time, one meal at a time. One “screw up” doesn’t spell disaster.
    Thanks!

  30. erin on January 12, 2010 at 10:43 am

thank you for the ending note! funnily enough, i’d just had my worst slip in months (major, MAJOR chocolate overkill!) and was feeling pretty bummed, not to mention sick. your advice was the perfect pep talk to get me off the couch, drink a big glass of water and move on with my life 😉

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2010 at 10:48 am

a chocolate overkill every now and again is no biggie 😀
so glad it helped a little <3

  31. Lauren (Biochemista) on January 12, 2010 at 10:58 am

The margarita looks AMAZING!!!! I just went on a cruise and had a few too many of them but they were delish!!!

Do you ever make them at home?? I make them adapted from Bethenny Frankel (Real Housewives from NY) if you ever want a recipe 🙂

    -Lauren

  32. Casey@SpicyandSweet on January 12, 2010 at 11:00 am

Ooh…I wanna try that flavor of LaraBar! I can’t find it around here :(. Your margarita looks AWESOME!!

  33. Janna (Just Flourishing) on January 12, 2010 at 11:22 am

That drink looks like all kinds of fun 🙂

More workout move of the week please!!!

  34. Jo on January 12, 2010 at 11:40 am

    Hi Gina,

Question… I often work late at my desk job and try to hit the gym after work and on weekends but don’t have much time. I am always trying to “maximize” my workouts. Whch means I often skip yogaand do cardio instead. Or skip pilates for spin, etc. is that a good idea? I am trying to tone up and also wouldn’t mind losing a few either. Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2010 at 12:05 pm

      hey jo,
i think if you’re trying to tone, just focus on super healthy eats and alternate higher intensity and interval days (cardio or spin) with lower intensity days (like yoga or pilates)– it’s good to have a mix of both
      hope this helps a little!

  35. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on January 12, 2010 at 11:56 am

Totally agree about the Biscoff….It tastes like cardboard.

  36. Rach on January 12, 2010 at 1:31 pm

I had that look on my face every time we would get back to Val-dumpster too! {Our lovely pet name for Valdosta!) We were stationed there for almost 5 years!!! Love your blog, just stumbled across it!

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2010 at 1:33 pm

val-dumpster?! that’s a new one! ahhhhh i’m laughing so hard over here. i love it

  37. Orla on January 12, 2010 at 2:27 pm

Great tip Gina. It’s really encouraging to know that somebody who gets straight A’s in food and exercise every single day used to be just like me 😀 Lots of people give the get-back-on-the-wagon advice but it was refreshing to hear that you, like me, almost did it as an excuse to gorge!

  38. Jenna on January 12, 2010 at 3:50 pm

Breaky looks great!! I am glad you liked the pb and j larabar, I have yet to try it but I have heard nothing but good about it!!

    You’re a waitress’s (and cook’s) nightmare, y’know that, right? ; )

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2010 at 4:26 pm

hahah i know 😉 that’s why i try to be extra sweet when i order

      • brittney on January 12, 2010 at 5:40 pm

I always pad the tip a little when I am being extra picky. “Can you use spray instead of oil? There’s some cash in it for ya!”

  40. chocolatecoatedrunner on June 8, 2010 at 6:40 pm

The plane view + cocktail looks lovely 😉
