Blast and burn circuit

Hi! Howโ€™s your day going? Itโ€™s a good one over here because weโ€™re about to pick my mom and nana up from the airport. I canโ€™t wait to see them! Iโ€™ve been getting things ready around the house, we went to Livโ€™s yoga class, and played with a few of the thousands of cats that live in our neighborhood.

Even though weโ€™re both deathly allergic, I told the Pilot Iโ€™d love to get a cat.

His response, โ€œYou already have about ten, just walk out into the yard.โ€ Touche.ย

Sure enough, we walked outside and were greeted by four cats (I think from the neighborโ€™s house?) that all wanted to be scratched.

Speaking of cats, my tuna salad wrap from lunch:

Wrap 1 of 1 3

(No matter how much proverbial lipstick you put on the pigโ€ฆ it still looks kind of like cat food)

Today is also an off day from the gym, which is much-needed after last weekโ€™s craziness. I took a barre class yesterday as part of my training, and my quads were crying after Saturdayโ€™s long run. Theyโ€™re thankful for a little R&R today, before itโ€™s back to the grind (and Zumba!) tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s a quick and intense circuit if youโ€™re looking to change up your workout routine this week. All you need is a pair of dumbbells, your own body weight, and a kick of motivation (crank up that playlist!).

Hope you enjoy!

How this workout works:

-Make sure to warm up before starting with cardio of choice, about 5-7 minutes of moderate intensity

-Start with block one. Youโ€™ll set a timer for 5 minutes, and go through the exercises in block one as many times as possible in that 5-minute block

-Next, youโ€™ll do the exercises in block 2 for 5 minutes.ย

-After youโ€™ve finished your strength blocks, youโ€™ll go on to cardio. (20 minutes). If youโ€™d like, you can repeat the entire workout one more time through, or combine with an ab burner.

Let me know if you give it a try!

Have a wonderful day <3

xoxo

Gina

Do you heat these up? Mine always seem to crack and fall apart?
        Thx

Just an FYI: there are feral cats that live along the river between Ocean Beach and Mission Beach. I know plenty of people who have out door cats that roam around, so they could be the neighbors. but they could also be wild.

good to know! these ones came out of my neighbor’s pet door ๐Ÿ™‚

Aww, those cats are cute! How do Bella and Caro react around the cats?

    • Fitnessista on May 19, 2014 at 7:58 pm

they’re pretty neutral about them. bella grew up around cats -my mom has one and they play- and caro is totally submissive to all animals

I eat tuna all the time. It’s a regular in my lunch bag. I’m glad you posted this recipe to remind me to try it. The cat thing is creepy!

I love these circuits! I will take this with me on my vacation to Spain next week!

  13. Laura on May 20, 2014 at 7:19 am

That’s so awesome that your mom and nana are there-family is absolutely everything and it’s so fun to show off a new home to family once it’s all set up. Enjoy your time! Also-love the cat food reference! I always say I’m opening a can of cat food when I eat canned tuna or salmon but I love it anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Amanda on May 20, 2014 at 9:33 am

Ummm thats my absolute heaven- cats roaming all around me! Except I would try to feed them and take them all (and my husband would not be happy hah!)

  15. Mackenzie on May 20, 2014 at 11:02 am

This workout looks fantastic! Question, when you say to crank the incline, do you mean while continuing to do 1 minute hard, 1 minute easy?

    • Fitnessista on May 20, 2014 at 11:03 am

no; keep a steady a pace for that section. sorry about that– i should have clarified!
let me know if you try it ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Colleen on May 20, 2014 at 12:50 pm

Great workout! Just banged it out during my son’s naptime, and I feel sweaty strong and energized!

  17. Tracy on May 20, 2014 at 1:14 pm

Oooh! I love the idea of blocks for 5 minutes each! Looks like a great workout! Planning on trying it Thursday morning!

Sounds like you might have a crazy cat lady for a neighbor?! Or a couple of them! Haha

  18. Rachael on May 20, 2014 at 5:12 pm

Love the workout. Going to try it this week. Is that your Flex I spot? I was just thinking about buying one. Do you still like it?

    • Fitnessista on May 20, 2014 at 6:30 pm

i’ve been wearing the polar loop and love it! the band of my flex got too gnarly teaching sweaty classes

  19. kalaeigh on May 20, 2014 at 8:18 pm

Hey Gina! What should I do for block 3 if I don’t have a treadmill to increase my incline, any suggestions? ๐Ÿ™‚
