Hey from the bay
Hiiii! How was your weekend? Hope you enjoyed some time with those you love, some relaxing, and some sunshine. Ours was a delightful mix of the three.
Since the Pilot was back in town, we decided to celebrate with a trip to Old Town to walk around. Old Town is a tourist hot spot -itโs packed with Mexican restaurants and cute little shops-
(and all the Mexican skeletons <โ my fave)
and gives us a taste of โhomeโ as it reminds me of Tucson.
Liv is obsessed with Coyote Cafe, so thatโs where we decided to eat.
Making life decisions at the candy shop:
Saturday, I taught my first yoga class! It was right after Zumba, and while I think dancing beforehand helped shake out some nerves, I was still anxious about it. It was a yoga basic class, so I was worried about what โbasicโ meant. Like โnever practiced yoga ever?โ or โJust donโt do any crazyass inversions or arm balances?โ I decided to plan it somewhere in the middle, which I think worked out well. I used this playlist, and planned out our practice the night before, with some wiggle room depending on how it was going. We did a warm up (childโs pose, cat/cow, spinal balance, thread the needle, down dog), some sun salutations, our โflowโ (Warrior 1, Warrior 2, Reverse Warrior, Extended Side Angle, Reverse Triangle, through vinyasa; a couple of times on each side after going through the poses), balancing postures, (tree, Dancerโs pose, Eagle), heart openers (camel, and bridge/wheel), stretching (pigeon, spinal twist, supta baddha konasana, figure 4 stretch) and savasana. During savasana, I played this song (THE BEST) and walked around the room to give mini massages, which is probably my favorite part of yoga. (I just asked those who wanted to stay in their own space to put their hands on their heart.)
(Got these massage oils at TJ Maxx of all places)
We had 11 people in class, and Iโm hoping they enjoyed it. I was definitely nervous, and some parts felt awkward (itโs so different to lead a practice than move through your own), but am happy the first one is out of the way! I just had to remind myself that the first time I teach anything is awkward and uncomfortable, and you grow by pushing your comfort zone.
I got an intense amount of writing done Saturday afternoon,
and then we met up with friends for an Indian feast.
The dal was so spicy it almost burned my face off, just like I like it.
Sunday morning was a beach party for Livโs school.
The entire bay was packed with pop-ups, umbrella and tents, and they have a โfun zoneโ (hula hoops, bubbles, games), a raffle, and fantastic food.
Tacos,
desserts, snacks, and giant pitchers of horchata. Oh yeah.
This week, weโre just getting back into the grind, and Iโm slowly starting to tackle some house to-dos that have migrated to the bottom of the list.
But first, itโs time to lift some heavy things at BODYPUMP.
Have a great Monday and Iโll see you today with our first blogiversary giveaway of the week!
xoxo
Gina
Congrats on teaching your first yoga class! I am sure it was intimidating, but no doubt you did a great job. The mini-massage at the end is my favorite part too. ๐ Look forward to round one of your giveaways!
I wish my yoga teachers did the massage with oils- that sounds amazing! I’m sure your first class was a success, congrats!
When I taught my first yoga class the instructor filmed it, and I had to sit around with the other teacher trainees after to watch and critique it! Thankfully I didn’t butcher anything too badly.
Perfect weekend! I had some sushi garden and beyond bread this weekend. Didn’t make it to prep and pastry. Next time!
What a fun looking weekend! Love that your school has events at the beach– that’s pretty awesome.
Those tacos! <3 Way to go on teaching your first yoga class! That's awesome!
Loving that little bump of yours that is peeking out more and more these days! Beautiful!
Since you’re back on the Indian train, you have to go to Punjabi Tandoor!! There are a few locations (I like the one on morehouse bc it’s newer and roomier). My fav is the chicken makhani (I could dive into a pool of that sauce) but the chicken curry, rogan josh, lamb curry, and saag paneer are all great. It’s a little far but worth it ๐
When I read the title of this post I thought you were in the “Bay Area” up near me hehe! And congrats on getting your first yoga class done. That’s the hardest part! I would LOVE to take your yoga class when I come to visit San Diego sometime this summer! ๐
Oh how I love and miss San Diego, although it has been absolutely beautiful here in Seattle!! Yesterday I hosted brunch for my girl friends and made 2 of your recipes from HIIT IT (mini egg muffins, and sweet potato egg casserole). So yummy- went perfect with all the mimosas and sangria:)
that sounds amazing! so glad you had an awesome brunch ๐
i LOVE when i get adjusted during yoga, and the mini massages ๐
one of my teachers would bring around cold towels to put on our foreheads during savasnah (that had essential oils in them). it was AMAZING
ohhh i love that idea!
You’re going to have #allthecertifications under your belt in no time at the rate you are going! Go girl, awesome!
xoxo, have a great day!
that’s the goal haha. ๐ thank you! hope you had a wonderful weekend!
This candy store! Oh my gosh. I would not be able to go in there (and come out with a reasonable amount of candies). Your first yoga class sounds like so much fun, I’m a a somewhere-around-a-beginner yogi and what you wrote sounds like a wonderful combination!
Congrats on your first class! the husband and I have been making Mexican like crazy! Seeing your plate makes me crave it even more!
Those tacos look amazing! Congrats on the yoga class!
The format you put together for your yoga class sounded great! Congrats on getting that 1st one out of the way.
thank you!
so happy to hear that your first yoga class went well! i’d love to take a yoga class taught by you next time i’m down in san diego.
such good weekend eats! totally craving indian now ๐
yes, let me know when you’re here!!
Sounds like a well-balanced weekend from start to finish…the best kind!
Congrats on your first yoga teaching experience! Sounds like it was a success. I bet it feels great to have the first one out of the way. So happy for you!
thank you! happy that it’s done ๐ can’t wait to hear how your first one goes!!
congratulations on your first yoga class! I’m sure you did an awesome job!!
thank you!!
Gina! I’ve been missing your plan + prep posts on Sundays . . . Are they coming back?
I like them too!
sure, they can come back after summer shape up! i hadn’t felt much like cooking lately so our meal plans ended up being very last-minute and on the fly
It sounds like your first yoga class was a success. Those tacos look really good!
The best Indian food in San Diego is Punjabi Tandoor (Miramar and Sorrento Mesa). It’s a bit of a whole in the wall with only take out utensils/containers but it is amazing!
Congrats on the yoga class, so exciting!
That taffy looks delicious, there’s nothing better than good salt water taffy!
Hey Gina! My family and I are going to be spending the next two weeks at our place in Mission Beach. I was wondering if you could recommend a good yoga studio around there that I could drop in a few classes on? Thanks!!!
Hey Gina! Congrats on teaching your first yoga class, that’s awesome! Can you recommend a good studio for drop ins around mission or pacific beach? I’m spending the next two weeks there and would love to hit up a few classes!
Congrats on the first class! That flow sounds AWESOME – really well balanced. I love the savasana massage giving too – I feel like it is also the best part of class. So many people are so starved for human contact, and it feels nice to connect in with peoples energies. You rock lady! <3
