Summer Shape Up Wrap-Up + Throwback Spin playlist
Hi friends! Howโs the day going? Mine started off with a sweaty BODYPUMP class, and then I came back home for breakfast with the madre and Liv, and a trip to Nordstrom Rack to ride the train outside.
(I was like, โWoooo!โ and Liv was like, โMom, stop.โ haha.)
It was a great day to replace my sad lost sunglasses; Nordstrom Rack always has awesome deals. (Theyโre very similar to these ones!)
Later tonight, I teach spin and am going to make a little salmon dinner for the fam. Iโve been trying to think of new ways to enjoy salmon -my all-time favorite way is the maple orange salmon from the book– but Iโm going to switch it up a bit tonight. Weโll see how it turns out. With salmon it could go one of two waysโฆ there is no in between.
So today is Monday, and itโs also the official end of Summer Shape Up! Yesterday was the last day, and itโs hard to believe that it went by so quickly. Iโm so happy that so many of you followed along and saw awesome results from your hard work. The check-ins were my absolute favorite. It makes me so happy to see your beautiful faces ๐
Thank you again for all of your feedback for SSU! Iโm always working on making the challenges better for you, so if you have any ideas for Winter Shape Up, please leave them in the comments below, or shoot me an email (fitnessista at gmail dot com subject: SSU!). Iโll be sending along some ideas for the rest of July to my newsletter subscribers, as well as monthly fitness calendars and meal ideas in August if youโre looking for inspiration until then. And of course, Iโll always be posting as many workouts, videos, tips and playlists on the blog as I can for ya!
Congratulations to our Week 4 winner, who will be getting a new fitness tracker (either a Fitbit or heart rate monitor; their choice!) a lulu tank top and a copy of โHIIT It!”
Grace G.!
The lucky lady has been emailed! Stay tuned for another giveaway coming up this Wednesday. ๐
Since itโs spin night tonight, I spend some time in the afternoon brainstorming some new playlist ideas. I came across a 90s playlist a couple of weeks ago, and it was the first โoldโ playlist that I LOVE. Usually theyโre just a compilation of songs that were overplayed and I now despise. (Ok, so โMambo #5โ falls into that category but I like the rest, and โCome On Eileenโ is my favorite song ever.)
I was inspired to create my own throwback playlist. Iโll probably put a couple of these on tonightโs playlist -I try to avoid โall or nothingโ type playlists because I want to have something for everyone in class- and am excited to use them for my own workouts.
Is there a Top 40 song you canโt stand right now? Favorite song of all time? What was todayโs workout like?
Hope you have a great night!
xoxo
Gina
I’ve been checking back waiting for the wrap up ;D congrats to the winner! i’m looking forward to the august calendar too! (Ah! August! School starts then D’: )
and i like that you mix it up for spin! and “all throwback” playlist would be a bit much for me, but there are definitely some songs that are just the best to get you going ๐
thank you, lovely! hope you have a great week <3
All the Taylor Swift songs are on my can’t stand. I love them when they come out until they’re over played like crazy. Is it weird that I still listen to Push It by Salt ‘n Pepa daily?
haha that’s an awesome song
I love the throwback playlist idea! I’m all about 90s music. I have to say for songs on the radio right now that I’m sick of – Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood would have to fall into that category. I liked it at first but wow have they played that song into the ground!
all of her songs! liv knows all the words to bad blood haha
I love that Nordstrom Rack! My friends and I always want to ride that train, but we figure we are too old and without children for it to seem normal.
haha i say go for it! the lady who works there wouldn’t judge, she’s super sweet
Working in a gym where Top 40 is on constantly, I can’t stand most of it! ๐ Haha, but one I still seem to find myself singing along to is Talking Body by Tove Lo…it’s too catchy!
(i like that song too)
Ooh girl. Short skirt, long jacket is my jam. I had a jazz recital number to this song WAYY back in the day. Good memories!
Thanks again for the shape up! I’m looking forward to WSU!
i love that song, too!
thank you- happy you enjoyed it!
Yay! Thanks so much for all your work putting the Shape-Up together! Tonight I did a full body workout found on Pinterest from Peanut Butter Runner. I didn’t feel like it but I got it done!
ahh i love jen ๐ great job pushing through!
My latest salmon obsession-

that looks amazing!! i will be on the lookout for it- thank you ๐
There is nothing I can’t stand that immediately comes to mind. If I don’t like a song I always remember it. Fun playlist! There are some old favorites of mine here. Smooth Crinimal indeed!
I have an awesome and super easy salmon recipe that we make all the time. (I actually can’t remember the last time we had salmon another way!) All you do is mix soy sauce and maple syrup (slightly more syrup than soy) and reduce it somewhat until it thickens. Brush it over the salmon and bake or grill. We take it out halfway through and brush with a second coat so it’s extra gooey and crispy! it’s the perfect mix of salty/sweet and tastes kind of like a teriyaki i guess. SO good! ๐
The Jessie J song where you says really really really really really really like you. Over and over and over again.
I missed SSU last week because I was volunteering, so I’m back on schedule this week- a week behind. Thanks for some great workouts! Quick question- I’m debating changing up my workout routine. Do you recommend total body circuits or an upper day and lower day?
my perfect world is one upper body day, one lower body and one total body with cardio only in between
Okay, so what do you think about: one upper body day, one lower body day, 2 spin days (my cardio of choice), and one total body pilates/barre/core fusion day? I enjoy a lot of your tabata workouts. Is it good to also do those with the upper & lower body days? I like 2 days off.
Thanks SO much. I work out at home, so I don’t really have anyone to ask!
i would be careful sandwiching spin with tabata since many spin classes do hiit style intervals.
something i would put together: upper + tabata, lower and easy steady, spin, off, total body + easy cardio, spin, off
I have a fail-proof salmon recipe from Giada. Mix together some lemon juice, EVOO (about 2 tablespoons of both) with chopped tomatoes (I usually use cherry tomatoes for more flavor) and some herbs & spices. Place the salmon in enough foil to wrap it up then spread the juice/EVOO/tomato mixture over the salmon. Wrap up the salmon into foil packets. Bake at 425 for 25 minutes. It’s a winner every time!
Yay for spinning playlists! After our cert tomorrow I’ll have to go back and find every one of your playlists to use . Xoxo!
Any song by Taylor Swift or Meghan Trainer…. can’t handle! Overplayed to death!
Give us an update on the salmon! It’ll be hard to top your usual recipe!
both so overplayed, and i like their music!
i ended up doing a honey lime salmon. it tasted delicious but i overcooked it ๐ wild salmon is harder to gauge!
O my goodness…I don’t even know what is on the radio nowadays. I have been so out of touch since coming back from our honeymoon, and I can’t remember the last time I listened to top 40s hits on the radio. It is usually tuned to country ๐
Blackened salmon. Yummmmmmm
Hey Ya reminds me of going out with my friends when I was in university. I graduated in 2006 so it’s definitely been awhile!
ahh thanks for the playlist suggestions! i’ve been using the spotify workout playlists and can i just say how i am officially over “sugar” by maroon 5?
I love that D.Cox song…my fave! I love themed playlists and usually try to find 1-2 songs that might appeal to others.
My typical playlist usually includes a “throwback song”…any genre…but usually pop, hip hop, old school rap or R&B…
Cheerleader….ugh. Such an earworm.
