Wrap Me in Roti

Hi guys ๐Ÿ™‚ Howโ€™s your Indian Food Wednesday goinโ€™? I was glad to hear that so many of you liked Eclipse! I canโ€™t wait to see it.. and Edwardโ€™s face ๐Ÿ˜‰

Many of you have asked questions about Insanity and TurboFire (about the workouts, how to buy them, etc) and I wanted to let yaโ€™ll know that my friend Elizabeth is a Beach Body coach โ€“ hit her up *here* if you need any help/advice with the Beach Body programs or want to pick some up.

Mine day has been pretty glorious ๐Ÿ™‚

indian

In my dream world, I wear roti like itโ€™s a giant shawl/poncho and can gnaw off bites whenever my heart desires:

roti

Before my Indian feast with a friend, I did weights and then tortured some bootcamp students >:)

bootcamp

Snacked on my favorite Larabar:

lara

and got a haircut. I was looking a little shaggy, so things are much more under control.

Nap, and then a snack:

apple

Apple + almond butter + mesquite

(Is anyone else STARVING after they take a nap??!!! The pilot always jokes with me about it. Heโ€™s like โ€œwhat are you up to?โ€ and when I tell him I just woke up from a nap and he says, โ€œso are you making a snack or did you eat one already?โ€ He knows me well.)

Iโ€™m about to head back to work to train clients and then get my cardio face on ๐Ÿ˜€

Have a lovely night!

I am SO glad I am not the only one ๐Ÿ™‚ My hubby always teases me about my major snack attack after naps… seriously what is with that!? It doesn’t matter if I ate close to before I took the nap or not, I always wake up and literally walk straight to the kitchen to munch. Must be some brain chemicals or something… I don’t know! I love my naps though, so it’s totally worth it.
I am so checking out the kombucha article… it always makes me feel a little silly… hmm!!

  2. Lauren @ Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful on June 30, 2010 at 5:51 pm

I always felt a little weird after Kombucha too, but just told myself it was from the little bit of alcohol, but I definitely feel something so that is really interesting!

  3. Liz on June 30, 2010 at 6:03 pm

I definitely celebrated Indian Wednesday AND brought two friends along to introduce them to Indian food. I am happy to say that they both loved it. But who wouldn’t? lol

      yup! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Carrie on June 30, 2010 at 6:28 pm

The Kombucha thing really entertains me, I never really thought about that being a possibility. I think this could increase consumption.

  7. Jordana on June 30, 2010 at 6:31 pm

That’s so funny about Kombucha. I was telling my husband that I always feel a little tipsy after drinking them, but that it’s probably just doing some good work for my body, LOL!

  8. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on June 30, 2010 at 7:06 pm

I am ALWAYS starving after a nap!! Even if I have eaten right before!

  9. Teri [a foodie stays fit] on June 30, 2010 at 7:14 pm

Thanks for sharing the Kombucha article. I noticed it was gone in WF and saw a little note that the alcohol content was being investigated but I’ve wanted more info. I just barely found it at another store in town – maybe I should take all they have in case they pull it there too! I’m addicted! Shoot…maybe I’m a kombuchaholic.

  10. Karyn on June 30, 2010 at 7:18 pm

thanks for the articles! and i can’t wait for eclipse. i’m saving it as a study break later this week. what more motivation to study hard do i need? hahah

  11. Lindsay on June 30, 2010 at 7:20 pm

YUM!!! I am starving! This all looks so good.

  12. Allison @ Food For Healing on June 30, 2010 at 7:32 pm

i’m not usually especially hungry after a nap. I get hungry a lot in the evenings tho!

  13. Amber on June 30, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Hi! I must say I was surprised it was Indian Food Wednesday – but glad to say I actually participated without knowing I’d done so!

I’ve had some pictures and blog up for my Wednesday lunch, I’d love if you stopped by to say hello!

    Cheers!

    Amber

  14. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on June 30, 2010 at 7:46 pm

Sleeping makes me hungrier than a workout, I swear. Glad I’m not the only one ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d wrap myself in a roti blanket too, or anything made of carbs. They’re the most important food group!

  15. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on June 30, 2010 at 7:52 pm

Yes!! I am the same way– I wake up from all my naps DYING for a snack! So funny.

  16. Denise on June 30, 2010 at 7:58 pm

I thought that getting hungry after naps only happened to me. My husband thinks I am crazy when I say that I dont want to take a nap bc I dont want to eat another lunch! I feel so much better knowing others feel the same way

  17. Cara on June 30, 2010 at 8:04 pm

    Delicious Indian eats as always!

I just watched the clip of “TurboFire” It looks quite intense/funny.
I don’t know if I could take myself serious doing those funny dance moves that I would be soooo uncoordinated at doing.

  18. Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! on June 30, 2010 at 8:11 pm

Often times, the only thing that will get me UP from a nap is the promise of a snack — usually involving chocolate! ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Ariffa on June 30, 2010 at 8:14 pm

heeeh I just woke up from a nap from actual hunger pains! pb n j quesadiller to the rescue,
and as a girl of east indian descent, I truly appreciate your roti-poncho fantisy

  20. Julie @pickley pear on June 30, 2010 at 8:18 pm

Always hungry after naps, I thought I was the only one! I bet your bootcamp is so fun, and tough!

  21. Lindsay on June 30, 2010 at 8:40 pm

How funny. I’m glad to know that I’m not totally crazy in being hungry after naps. And I agree with previous commenters… even if I’ve eaten recently a nap always gives me the munchies. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Rosey Rebecca on June 30, 2010 at 9:11 pm

I am ALWAYS hungry when I first wake up. Sleeping is hard work. Eating is crucial after a good nap! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the boot camp notes. I always see women running around my gym doing the boot camp class they offer. Maybe I’ll try it.

  23. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on June 30, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Ya I guess apparently the whole Kombucha alcohol care was because Lindsay Lohan claimed it was the cause of her SCRAM (alch detection) bracelet going off..LOL

  25. Kat on June 30, 2010 at 9:32 pm

I was so beyond excited when I read the part about being hungry after naps. Some days I will avoid taking naps just because no matter what I am always STARVING when I wake up. I am so happy to read all the comments and know that I’m not the only one, or completely crazy ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Help Meghan Run on June 30, 2010 at 9:44 pm

Good to know I’m not the only one! Always SO hungry after naps…especially for carbs. ๐Ÿ˜‰

ME TOO- i can’t get carbs fast enough!

  27. breakingsilence @ Freshman -15 on June 30, 2010 at 9:45 pm

    Hi Gina,
I remember you did a post on superfoods a while back and I wanted to check it out again, but I can’t find it! I was hoping to find out more about chia seeds, is there any way you can give me the link to the post?

  29. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on June 30, 2010 at 10:05 pm

I’m the opposite– after a nap I’m almost never hungry! It usually takes about an hour or so for my appetite to show up again!

I think I’m going to see Eclipse tonight! Can’t wait!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  31. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on June 30, 2010 at 10:35 pm

Hey my love, I posted on the kombucha situation about a week ago. Yes, it was pulled from stores, etc. But when you think about it, inherent in any fermentation, scientifically-speaking, the by product IS going to be alcohol. Not tons or anything in this type of fermentation, but some. Yes ๐Ÿ™‚

I am making my own kombucha. I think you saw the pics on my site. Anyway, it’s been fun and I can’t wait to see how it works! I am on Day 6 with probably another 10 to go!

    xo

  32. Lisa on June 30, 2010 at 10:39 pm

I always need to eat after a nap! There has got to be something scientific to prove this is a real!

  33. Emily @ Emilyeatsclean on June 30, 2010 at 10:53 pm

I gotta get my hands on some of this mesquite and give it a try! And I can’t wait to see Eclipse on Friday night with the hubs….whooo hoo!!!

  34. Carolyn @ lovinlosing on June 30, 2010 at 10:54 pm

I am always starving when I wake up, whether it’s for 8 hours or 15 minutes!

  35. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on June 30, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Haha that’s funny, I’m never hungry after a nap. It’s after a cardio work out I’m starving! They say that cardio holds off your appetite for an hour or so, but I need to eat RIGHT when I get home.

  36. kelsey@snackingsquirrel.com on June 30, 2010 at 11:27 pm

YES I GET MAD RAVENOUS WHEN I WAKE UP! thats why i dont nap!!! i wake up a bitch with an attitude and a growling hunger “outta my way, im heading for the fridge” lol haha <3

-fave 80s song was a good question. It got me thinking about first concerts. What was your first concert? what’s the best concert you’ve seen?

-loved the reader’s request post on getting junk in the trunk. what tukkis exercises do you suggest that are effective, BUT–and here’s the kicker–don’t engage the quads? or at least engage them only minimally? (the ballerina in me asks)I tend to lift upper body balls to the walls, but then for lower body, I try to limit it to hips, hammies, calves, etc. I would really like to do more glute work, but so many of the best exercises are also quad-centric (ie step ups, lunges, many/most types of squats)

-do you know any crossfitters? ever thought about adding crossfit into your workout regimen for something new/different?

-naps actually make me kinda nauseous! isn’t that weird?!?

  38. andrea on July 1, 2010 at 12:49 am

heyyy! when you make indian food what is a simple dish to try?? i love chana masala- do you have an easy recipe? also— those mung beans, where did you find those? i looked at whole foods and could not find! i would love to try them! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hey Gina–

Awesome post. I have a question that I’m hoping you might be able to devote a discussion/answer to in the future. I believe you’ve said that you don’t count calories, but is there generally a certain range that you aim for? I do cardio (running 30-45 mins on the treadmill + the elliptical) 6 days a week (along with and spinning/yoga twice a week), so I’m very active but I want to maintain my weight.

I’ve always been at the lower end of the normal BMI range, but now I’m under added stress because I’m trying to normalize my eating (I’m recovering from an ED relapse and am technically underweight). I think knowing a caloric RANGE for weight maintenance for a very active person might help to put things in perspective. It seems we’re always told that for slimmer/shorter women around 1500 calories a day is that range–but then other resources say that’s how much women should eat when they’re trying to lose weight, not maintain. I know a lot of factors come into play here but I’m really curious. If it helps, I’m also around 5’2”, so I’m on the short side.

I’m getting all of the treatment I need to get better, so don’t worry about that, but I’d love your opinion. Thanks so much.

    Sarah

Now the whole kombucha craze makes sense–everyone’s addicted. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t get hungry after a nap, but I’m so thirsty! I drink like three glasses of water when I wake up.

  48. Annie on July 1, 2010 at 9:35 am

Eclipse is so good! My cousin and I saw it yesterday. Only downside: we went to an early showing to avoid screaming tweens. Instead, there were crying babies. Weird. Hope you enjoy! Edward is particularly good looking in this one!

  49. Gina on July 1, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I am always starving after a mid-day nap…like I need sugar NOW! Maybe it’s a low blood sugar side effect…? I definently feel buzzed after a kombucha;)

  50. erin m.@well-in-la on July 1, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Thanks for the re-post on TPP’s WellBlog article! I’ve always tried to consume extra amounts of protein following an intense weight or weight-bearing exercise session. But I nearly always crave carbs (esp. fruits & veggies) more than protein after a work-out.

Seems estrogen does a body good for endurance! I also loved that scientists are willing to give men doses of estrogen in place of studying the same subject on women. Time for more gender-specific research! Maybe one day they will even run studies on women FIRST!
