A Date with the Madre
Hey friends hey ๐ Howโs your morning going??
I took my madre on a little date last night ๐
We already have tickets to see Wicked while itโs here (two times, haha) but figured weโd take a chance at the Wicked lottery. If we won, fabulous, if not, weโd just grab dinner by the university. 2 hours before every show (they do this in NY, too), you can wait in line to put your name in for orchestra seats. If they call your name, you get up to two baller spots for $25 each. Amazing.
They stamped our hands with a lovely bright green witch hat:
and I proceeded to get it all over my shirt within 5 minutes- you canโt take me anywhere ๐
Everyone who waited in the lottery was so nice โ we cheered for each person when their name was called. Then they called my madreโs name! Wahoo ๐
We had some time before the show, so we grabbed some dinner at Lovinโ Spoonfuls, an awesome vegetarian restaurant.
We each enjoyed the garden veggie plate:
A mountain of roasted veggies atop brown rice with a tahini sauce
+ garden salad with balsamic
Every time I eat at Lovinโ Spoonfuls, I want to go hug the owner and say thank you. The food is always so delicious, fresh and it feels like someone in your family just made it for you.
Inside the theatre, we grabbed some coffee, a reusable shopper and Wicked coffee mug
and watched a stellar performance of my all-time favorite musical (and thatโs coming from a HUGE musical theatre nerd).
I had the chance of seeing Wicked a couple of years ago in NY and it was just as amazing as I remembered- so good it will make you want to cry ๐
It was the madreโs first time and she LOVED it, too. We spent the entire car ride back to the madreโs gushing about the intricate costumes, the buttery voices and Fieroโs supreme hawtness. ๐
This morning, Iโm off to make some b-fast and take the puppers for a walk before yoga.
Have a great day <3

Todayโs workout jam: โUnited State of Pop 2010โ DJ Earworm (He has incredible mixes, perfect for working out)
How awesome! I’m so glad you guys got to do that. I grew up a couple of hours from NYC, so the school would take us to see shows, Les Mis was my fav, but it’s been soooo long since I’ve seen anything.
ahhh i love wicked!
i’m so jealous.
i entered the lottery in chicago when i was there a few summers ago, and didnt win ๐ such a bummer.
so despite my love, i still haven’t seen it performed! how is that possible? haha!
enjoy your walk + yoga, gina! sounds like a great saturday morning!
that’s so fun that your mom “won the lottery!”
musicals are GREAT! i have never seen “wicked” – my favourite is joseph and the technicolor dreamcoat!
I want to go see Wicked so badly, but I doubt they’ll make a trip to Winnipeg (at least not in the winter! ๐ ) That sounds fun, I had my parents over yesterday as well as one of my brothers and his girlfriend and we ordered pizzas and played a few board games. It was fun. And I love DJ Earworm’s (but weird, weird name) yearly mixes. 2009’s was awesome.
I would LOVE to see Wicked! And how fun that you won tickets. I never really have luck like that. Sounds like a great night with the madre. ๐
I am seeing Wicked for the first time in March. I am sooo excited! Everytime I hear somebody talk about it I get even more excited. Haha, I am such a nerd ๐
My husband surprised me with tickets for Wicked for our first anniversary. It is amazing!! I want to see it again.
Mum dates are the best, aren’t they? I realllly need to get my behind to the theatre to see Wicked.
That sounds really fun! I’ve only read the book and I can’t remember the last time I saw a show…maybe Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center (hilarious, I highly recommend if you’re ever in D.C.)
I love broadway musicals! We lived in Germany for years and every thanksgiving we went to London to see a show. One time we got these really expensive Phantom seats and when we got there we were in the absolute last row, it was makeshift with metal folding chairs and to top it off we needed binoculars to see! Last time I was in NYC I went with 5 sorority sisters to see Legally Blonde…surprisingly really good!
Aww that sounds like such an awesome night! Haha love how you posed with the poster!
I saw wicked in NY too! I seriously sang it for a year. Pretty sure i annoyed the heck out of my family!
How fun! My mom and I saw Wicked the last time we went to NYC, Nicole Parker was playing Elpheba.
We decided on a Saturday night to see if there were any available tickets, so we just showed up at the theater. Of course, it was sold out so we did the lottery thing but our names didn’t get called.
Then somebody told us we could wait in line for cancellations; the line wasn’t long and it was about 2 hours until curtain so we decided to go for it. Literally 8 minutes before curtain, they released all the tickets that hadn’t been claimed and all of us waiting in line got to sit 10th row center! We paid face value for the tickets (no $25 deal for us!) but it was totally worth it!
i saw nicole parker play elphaba too- her voice is ridiculous!
I soo LOVE wicked! By far my favorite musical! I saw it in New York as well and was completely blown away. I wish I could’ve seen it again when it came through my area but I didn’t get a chance. I’m so jealous!
That’s so fun you guys got to do that! I love lotteries…especially when you win ๐
your meal looks AMAZING! i kind of want to visit tucson so i can try lovin’ spoonfuls. and so fun about winning the wicked lottery! aren’t things just better when you win them?
i’ve wanted to see wicked for forever now…your madre is a lucky woman!
That’s great that you guys got the Wicked lottery! I’ve tried those lottery things before and it’s not so fun when you’re standing outside waiting in below freezing weather.
I’ve been listening to that workout jam lately when I go to the gym! Very addictive.
That’s so awesome that you got to see Wicked! I saw it a few years ago in NYC. It’s definitely my favorite musical (even better than Rent or Aida and that’s saying a lot!).
aida is my second fave… amazing
I also was lucky enough to see Wicked in NYC and it was amazing! That was my first musical so everything after have some fancy shoes to follow! Have a good weekend Gina!
I’ve never seen Wicked but I LOOVE Kristen Chenowith (which is practically the same thing right ๐ ) Congrats on the awesome seats!
I still haven’t seen Wicked!
I love the DJ Earworm remixes. So cool. Have you watched the music videos that go with them? Also cool!
I love to work out to the United States of Pop. Now when I hear any of those songs individually I am disappointed because I prefer the mix!
I L-O-V-E Wicked! I have seen it twice, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it 100 more times. ๐ I have the soundtrack and I listen to it all the time – haha!
Wicked is amazing. I saw it when it came to town. If only I could see it with Idina and Kristen
I had no idea they do that in NY….soooo awesome!
I love Wicked! And veggies ๐ Your mom is so lucky!
If I ever come to Tucson, I will be sure to hit up Lovin Spoonfuls!
I saw Wicked with mi madre too when it was in Seattle. My best guy friend from high school happened to also be taking his girlfriend to the show. It was all very fun.
OMGosh, I love rocking out to the soundtrack on roadtrips! Yipeeeee!
LOVE Wicked! I have seen it twice ! I saw it in Chicago both times!!! It is the best play ever! I got the soundtrack too because I loved the songs so much! Love the song Popular!
Have a great day Gina! : )
How awesome! My fiance and I entered The Wicked lottery when we lived in Boston and won as well. It is always exciting to win a lottery!
So glad you won the wicked lottery!! And you went with your mom…that is so sweet! ๐
I love your pink hoodie and your bag…Are those G’s on that bag? Hard to tell but it’s super cute!
I hope you have a great weekend, Gina!
๐
Wicked is all my time favorite musical! I literally cried when I saw it because I loved it so much. The book was awesome too. ๐
Yes! The Wicked Lottery is the BEST kind of lottery! I had no idea they did that in NYC too. As a student I get pretty cheap tickets to the shows but the seats suck! Is it just for Wicked, or other shows? How did I not know about this!!! What’s your favorite song in the show? Mine’s “For Good”, such a pretty song.
Also, those veggies look SO good right now.
just for wicked, as far as i know. so amaizng!
my favorite one is the one fiero and elphaba sing together… no clue what’s called but my heart melts ๐
I am a huge musical [and Wicked] nerd as well!!
I saw Wicked on Broadway! It was my the first time I’d seen a big musical production outside of local theater and it was magical! Took you to a completely different place. Fun times!
ahh i LOVED wicked when I saw it in NYC. Best show hands down, bar none.
I loved Wicked! I saw it when I was living in NYC ๐
I LOVE Wicked. We saw it in St. Louis on our honeymoon. And the next day I went and bought the soundtrack. Now it’s awesome when Popular comes up on my ipod ๐ And I so want a reusable Wicked bad. Jealous!
And your dinner looks incredible. I wish there were vegetarian restaurants around me.
so fun! love the pic of you next to the poster (creative) and the witch’s hat is clever for them
Ahh! When I was in NYC, my mom and I tried to get Wicked tickets in the lottery 3 times but had no luck. I haven’t seen it yet but would love to! Sounds love a fun evening!
My mom bought me tickets for Christmas and the hubby & I are going next Saturday! I’m so excited!!! My plan is to hit up Frog & Firkin on University before the show…I hear they’re making a mean Wickitini ๐
Glad to hear that you & your mom has such a great time!!
T.
wickitini!?!? i’m all over that ๐
Wow, the food looks amaaazing! Sounds like a great night you had with tu madre!
I got to see Wicked in LA a couple of years ago! So cute that you went with your mom.
I love wicked! You know it’s good when you catch ur husband downloading the soundtrack off i-tunes ๐
saw wicked in NY last year with my boyfriend and we both LOVED it!!! that’s awesome you guys won!! btw have you seen Rock of Ages musical?? it’s sooo good and sooo fun!! not sure if you’re an 80s music fan but i am and this musical totally rocks!
i haven’t seen it but i want to! love 80s music ๐
They do that at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood too! On my birthday my mom won the same contest and we got front row center seats for $25- what an amazing experience (we got those same lovely buttons, haha)! Seriously I fell in love with the costumes and kept talking to people about them who had already seen the show, but they really had no comment. I finally figured it out- that since I was in the front row I had a much better view of the costumes than all my friends who had the show. But seriously I am still obsessed with those beautiful outfits! I just love that musical, and I think it’s great that you and your mom were able to win the lottery and see the show!
Lunch looks delish!
Wow what a fun mommy date!! Now I am texting my mom to see if she wants to go see Wicked with me!! Lovinโ Spoonfuls sounds redunk. I wish we had one here. Where do you download your music from? I can never seem to find the songs you recommend. Xo
I love mommy- daughter dates– the best! Food, movies, shopping…all paid for by mama ๐
I saw WIcked a couple years ago and loved it!
So cute!! My mom and I just went on a little day away to NYC, gotta love just chilling with momma ๐
