Baby’s First A+

In between the Monday moving frenzy, I had a phone call from an unknown number. Right away, I decided to answer and see who it was, and it was one of the nurses from the clinic where I had Friday’s blood work. The blood work was the second part of the testing we had done, and the nurse was calling to go over the results with me.

“We have your blood test results and it’s most definitely a negative for everything. You have the best numbers you could possibly get.”

“Wow, that’s great to hear- thank you so much for calling to let me know”

“The midwives will go over everything in further detail with you, but it looks like your baby is very, very healthy. For this test, it’s definitely an A plus as far as results go.”

Baby’s first A+!

When we first decided to do the testing –our insurance covered it and we’d get another ultrasound so we decided to go for it since it was non-invasive- we knew we might be setting ourselves up for additional stress and a potential false positive result. We actually weren’t too stressed out, especially since a test result wouldn’t affect our plans for the baby, but it’s nice to know that everything came back with great results and both parts of the testing are done.

The next test I think I have is the gestational diabetes test, but I don’t think it’s for quite a few more weeks (I’m only 17). I’m not too worried about it.. I’ve discovered that if something’s going to happen while you’re pregnant, it will happen, and the only thing you can change is how you prepare or react to what’s going on. So I’m doing what I can do to educate myself on as many things as possible and rolling along with it, as happy as can be 🙂

Belly’s poppin’ this week!!

4 1/2 weeks:                                                                              10 1/2 weeks:

week2 10week (2)

15 weeks:                                                                        17 weeks:

15weeks    17 weeks

I’ve written about some awkward moments I’ve had during all of this, but I do have to go ahead and say that the kindness I’ve received has outnumbered the weird questions/comments by a landslide. Random people (and friends/family) have been so helpful and sweet to me, and pregnancy compliments are the best. When someone will tell me I look beautiful or so cute it’s definitely a day-maker.

Current cravings:

-Salads. Big, beastly, veggie-dense goat-cheesy salads.

-Oats: hot or cold. I was wondering when they’d sound good to me again, and they finally do 🙂

-Spicy or marinara anything <— this one’s been pretty much a staple the entire time

-Anything cold: smoothies, fruit, sliced bell peppers, carrots

-Veggie chips (much better than the salt and vinegar ones I was feasting on first trimester. I had a snack-sized bag of pumpkin chips at World Market and they were AMAZING)

-Shrimp. Seafood was making me kind of ill for a while, but shrimp sounds perfect right now- especially grilled shrimp.

-Rice crispy treats. I haven’t had these in forever and now, whenever I see one, I want it. My mom bought a giant container of the old school rice crispy treats at Costco and I ate one this morning. It still tasted like the packaging, but it quelled the beast.

Aversions:

-Meat. I haven’t touched organic chicken in forever, and still have no desire.

Looks like the regular style of Gina-eating is back 🙂

Weight gained so far: 10 lbs

New this week:

I can actually feel the little guy moving around in there! and I LOVE it. It’s usually the best when I’m laying down, especially if I’ve just eaten something, and it kind of feels like a goldfish swimming around – like a little flutter or whoosh, kind of hard to explain, but there isn’t anything like it. It’s crazy though because while we were signing our papers for the house at the title company, the baby was going crazy! I kept looking at Tom and saying, “he’s moving SO much right now!” Maybe he could tell how excited and happy I was?

popcorn popping is what I thought it felt like at 17 weeks!!!

Aghhh…you are SO freakin cute! I can’t believe how you popped in 2 weeks there. It’s still so little, but I can see a difference in a small amount of time!

So happy your lil guy is all healthy! Takes after his mommy!!!

  2. Jenn on July 27, 2011 at 12:05 am

Hope the moving in process is going well, I pictured your little guy crawling around in the pictures 🙂 Belly pics are great!! You’re looking like a fabulously fit prego gal!

YOU HIT the NAIL on the HEAD!

    Amen for having that mindset!!

And the G.Diabetes test…yeah, super sweet syrup-ey gunk that you’re supposed to drink. It’s pretty awful but at least it’s over in like 10 seconds and then you just wait and get your bloodwork done.

Rice krispie treats??? Ahhh…..now I know why you tweeted about my cookie dough stuffed RKTs yesterday!! You were having serious preggo cravings.

I wish I could just make you some! Or ship some! But with that heat in AZ, they’d be a melted mess.

    Good luck unpacking!

You look so amazing. You are carrying so high! I feel bad for dads, they never get to experience the baby moving. It’s such an awesome feeling…and it gets better, then worse when you’re 30+ weeks, lol. Its so great that your lil guy will have a house to grow up in!

  7. Lindsay on July 27, 2011 at 12:20 am

I’m 18 weeks now and have felt my bubby moving too. Usually when I’m laying down. Initially I thought I had been having heart palpitations but when I touched my stomach I realised it was coming from inside my tummy and not the chest area. Lots of gurgling noises too!!!

  10. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on July 27, 2011 at 12:25 am

So insanely happy for you! I am happy your baby got an a+, certainly a sign of things to come! I am glad you are feeling better and eating more foods you loved before baby again. You look so adorable all preggers too!!

Super-cute bump! Don’t worry about the test for gestational diabetes. The most annoying part is actually waiting to have your blood drawn after drinking the glucose. And like you said, if it happens it happens. I think I must have missed a few posts because I just realized you that you have already revealed that you are having a boy! So exciting once you finally know the gender! Congrats again!

  19. Sabrina on July 27, 2011 at 1:56 am

Congrats on the new house and getting settled and great test results. Your attitude toward pregnancy is brilliant and it will just be more of the same once the little guy arrives. You look completely adorable; now get yourself to starbucks and get one of their marshmallow dream bars – best rice crispy treat ever. 🙂

  23. Mandy on July 27, 2011 at 3:25 am

It’s the best once the hubby is able to feel the little one too! I bet the Pilot will be excited. I started feeling my boy at around 16 weeks as well, hubby wasn’t able to until 21-ish weeks. But then he got kicked, hard! 😀

Gestational diabetes test is usually done between 24 and 30 weeks – I just had mine today at 27w5d. Along with an ultrasound (swoon – the little guy was swallowing and even sticking his tongue out!). The drink is YUCKY! It’s like if Gatorade could taste even more artificial and fake-orangey than it already does, that’s the glucose drink.

You look adorable, and so happy!

GE test is between 26 and 28 weeks, I believe. I go in for my monthly OB appt. tomorrow (at 26 wks) and im totally expecting them to give me the drink and tell me to set up my appointment. If you can, go with the ORANGE drink. it’s easier to take down and tastes better than the rest. LOL!!

Awww, look at the belly! It’s POPPIN’! =)
