Better the Next Day

Hey guys! Happy Monday 🙂 Hope you enjoyed your weekend! Thank you SO mucho for all of the lovely compliments on the flight dinner party. It was a lot of work, but a total blasty 😉

The rest of our weekend was filled with…

Leftovers:

enchi salad

I had my leftover enchi’s on a bed of spinach, topped with pico

(food almost ALWAYS tastes better the next day… except for fish, blech)

Errands -my laptop still isn’t fixed… Please hurry, Geek Squad

Choc Cherry Bombs:

smoothie

and a trip to the dog park with friends + their fur children.

dog park

Check out Bella’s paws:

bella

Filthy!

It was one of those weekends that didn’t feel at all *restful*, but was very, very good 🙂

B-fast:

bfast

Bfast cookie dough cereal with organic strawberries and cacao nibs. Perfection 😀

Well I’m off to my first not-at-flight-med-on-base doc’s appointment. I usually prefer female docs, but today it’s a dude doc. Do you care whether your doctor is male or female??

Then:

-Errands (need to get snacks/groceries for hotlanta this week!)

-Work

-Work out

-More training appointments

See ya this afternoon with the veggie and goat cheese enchilada recipe <3

xoxo

Gina

Today’s workout jam: “You Lost Me” Christina Aguilera (I LOVE this song right now- it’s pretty slow, but would make for an awesome, heavy climb/hills sesh, or a triumphant cool down song)

I really don’t care either way who the doctor is, as long as they know their stuff! And I agree- food always tastes better the next day!

Veggie & goat cheese enchilada recipe?!? YES PLEASE!!
Bella’s little dirty paws look too cute 🙂

  3. Paige (Running Around Normal) on July 26, 2010 at 9:41 am

Hope you have an easy week after that busy weekend:) I love going to the dog park!

  4. Marissa on July 26, 2010 at 9:42 am

I’m with ya on the doc thing. I’m super picky about it. All of my docs are younger females. I just feel like I relate to them much better than men or even older woman docs. Can’t wait for that recipe!

  5. Whitney @ Whitinspired on July 26, 2010 at 9:56 am

If it’s my yearly female appt, a woman. But any other doctor I don’t care. I just don’t feel comfy with a guy examining my lady parts.

Can’t wait for the veggie and goat cheese enchilada recipe! I can’t eat cow’s dairy and have recently discovered that goat dairy doesn’t bother me…so I can eat cheese again!

  6. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on July 26, 2010 at 10:01 am

I usually see my female doctor, but I’m be comfortable with a male or a female. Can’t wait to try your BFast Dough Cereal — so delicious!

And yes food almost always tastes better the next day — except you’re right, fish isn’t very good the next day.

I do not like it when weekends are not restful, but as long as I get a good night’s sleep on Monday night I’m good for the rest of the week! Have a great day!

  7. rachael on July 26, 2010 at 10:07 am

I wish I had a dog park close by!

I prefer female docs too. Not that male doctors are bad, I just usually feel more comfortable with a female doc.

  8. Tina on July 26, 2010 at 10:10 am

Wow you have a busy day! I am not too particular about the sex of the doctor as long as he/she is kind and takes time to answer questions. That usually ends up being a female doctor though.

  9. BethT on July 26, 2010 at 10:14 am

I’m fine with a dude general practitioner, but I had to go to one guy for a pregnancy appointment and HATED. IT. I was having a scary issue and he was really judgmental. I’m not saying all male OB GYNs are that way, but I felt like a woman would have been more understanding…

  10. Shanna @ Shanna Like Banana on July 26, 2010 at 10:17 am

    Yep, prefer a woman!

I’m still drooling over your Fiesta eats!

Saturday I was going to do my own twist on enchiladas, but veggie stirfry took over 😉

  11. Anna S on July 26, 2010 at 10:28 am

I switch to a female doctor right around puberty, and I’ve had one ever since!

  12. Heather (Heather's Dish) on July 26, 2010 at 10:29 am

i’m definitely a fan of women doctors…nothing wrong with males, but i feel like the girls are more understanding 🙂

  13. Alicia on July 26, 2010 at 10:29 am

We’ve moved a bunch so I’ve been through a few doctors. So far the guys have always been my favorite. Maybe it’s just me but I think they are more sympathetic and gentle. The lady docs always seem rushed and kind of like “hey suck it up, you’re making us ladies look bad!”

  14. Karyn on July 26, 2010 at 10:31 am

i switched to a female doctor when i was in my teens but i think it depends on what i’m seeing the doctor for. my ob/gyn will likely always be female but it doesn’t really matter for the specialists i see

  15. Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday on July 26, 2010 at 10:33 am

You dog has such tiny paws!! My puppy’s paws are enormous

  16. RhodeyGirl on July 26, 2010 at 10:34 am

My new gyn is a man, and I am OBSESSED with him. I was really reluctant to go to a man at first, but my friend convinced me and it was the best thing ever. Since he can’t rely on his OWN experience of female symptoms etc, he has to rely on his studies.. so he is therefore EXTREMELY knowledgeable.

He also makes the best jokes 🙂

  17. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on July 26, 2010 at 10:38 am

I usually prefer a woman doctor, especially if I’m going to the “lady” doctor. If it’s like a dentist I don’t care either way 🙂 Have a great day!

  18. allison @ livingoneday on July 26, 2010 at 10:38 am

ugh im drooling thinking about all of your tasty weekend eats! i spent 18 hours in a car driving from tampa to philly 🙁

usually i like female docs, but i will see a male one. unless it’s the gyno! hahaha. oh, and i’m hosting a chobani giveaway on my site if you (or anyone else) is interested!!!

  19. The Hot and Fit on July 26, 2010 at 10:46 am

I am NOT a fan of docs and would seriously mind whether its a male doc. I have never actually been to one!! I have lots of friends that do go to a male gyno and are totally cool about it!

  20. Katie on July 26, 2010 at 11:03 am

I agree, leftovers taste as good as ever! I LOVE me some leftover pizza, I ate it cold and not even heated up when I was younger, was so good!

    Have a great day girl!!!

  21. Colleen on July 26, 2010 at 11:06 am

My gyno is a male, but he’s recommended by everyone around here…he was raised by a single mother and 4 sisters, so he’s super sensitive and kind (plus he has 4 kids of his own, and he’s big into exercising and eating well). I’ve seen his practitioner once when he wasn’t available and I was shocked at how rough she was during an exam. Very strange, but I’m sure not all female docs are like that. But for now I prefer my male doctor. I hope if we move one day I can find one just as good!

  22. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on July 26, 2010 at 11:16 am

My dad is a doctor, so I’ve never really minded one over the other!! My pediatrician was a woman and I hated her, but my ear/throat/nose guy (I’ve had a lot of throat issues) is a male and I love him. The only doc I’d really care about is gyno- not saying that male gynos can’t be great, but I’m definitely more comfortable with a woman!

  23. tanyasDailyProductReviews on July 26, 2010 at 11:21 am

pizza tastes great the next day

  24. Jackie (Peaces of Earth) on July 26, 2010 at 11:28 am

I don’t really care what kind of doctor it is unless I’m going to that kind of doctor, in which I prefer women. They just have a better understanding I think.

    Bella’s paws are too cute!!!

  25. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on July 26, 2010 at 11:33 am

It depends on what kind of doctor we’re talking about. Most I’m OK with being male, but my gynecologist has to be a woman.

  26. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on July 26, 2010 at 11:38 am

I definitely prefer female docs… except for the unfortunate incident at my last appt. i was going to the clinic on campus and wasn’t entirely sure which doc i’d get, just that she was female. turned out to be the woman that runs on the treadmill next to me practically every morning at the gym. awkward!!!!!!
awesome job on the dinner party by the way – that was a lot of food and it all looks delicious! 🙂

  27. April on July 26, 2010 at 11:40 am

Well, I use midwives for gynecological type stuff. But it doesn’t bother me either way. I’ve had both male gynecologists and females and if anything I’ve felt that women gyns. are harder to talk to (except the ones I go to now, they’re amazing!)

  28. Nola @ The Zetetic Gamin on July 26, 2010 at 11:47 am

Those enchiladas look so amazing! I have often wondered what it would take to get leftover enchiladas without actually having to have them the first time, as you are so right about them being better the next day!! Somehow there always needs to be a “day one” though!

I’ve actually become a fan of male docs as of late. I used to really like having a woman, especially for ob/gyn stuff, because I felt like they would understand me better. Lately, though, it seems like the women I’ve visited just assume they _do_ understand me and don’t listen to what I have to say! So now I’m interested in a doctor who listens and asks intelligent, probing questions. It’s so important!

  29. angie on July 26, 2010 at 11:52 am

Ahh your brekkie looks yummo! You know there are like 5 Whole Paychecks in ATL right? Plus Trader Joes! I am soo jealous. Love going to ATL, esp Whole Paycheck, TJ’s and Lenox Square Mall.

I only see women for my gyno appts. I dont know i just get creeped out otherwise. Luckily the only womens health docs on base are women.

  30. Carrie on July 26, 2010 at 11:55 am

My weekend wasn’t restful at all either. Definitely need another weekend. And because it was so busy, we’re completely out of provisions in the house. So breakfast was laaaaame. I’m in total envy of yours right now.

  31. Sarra H on July 26, 2010 at 11:57 am

I hate going to male doctors! if I’m going for a cold/flu type thing I don’t really mind, but otherwise if it ain’t a female, I ain’t gonna be there (hahaha wow, so corny and sounds so weird)

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2010 at 12:06 pm

      haha so true though!

  32. Andrea on July 26, 2010 at 11:58 am

  34. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on July 26, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I do usually prefer female doctors, but if I get a male, it’s not too big of a deal…

I agree– almost ALL food tastes better the next day, after all the flavors mingle. 😀

  35. Mo on July 26, 2010 at 12:27 pm

I’ve had some bad experiences with female docs, so I currently have a male.

Muddy puppy feet . . . looks just terrible on a white one, doesn’t it? We had a Great Pyranees (big white dog, 100 lbs) – took her to the dog park after a rainy couple of days. She found the biggest mud puddle she could find, laid down and rolled in it. Thank goodness we had a truck at the time. My husband took her into the bathroom, and got in the shower with her. Unfortunately, she decided to shake before the cleaning started – mud, all over the bathroom and him. The bathroom got quite the cleaning that day!

  36. laura dishes on July 26, 2010 at 12:33 pm

I prefer a female dr for the annual appointment. I could deal with a male doc, but I’m not naturally comfortable with the idea…

Let me know if you have any free time in Atlanta this weekend… there are several girls in the area that would probably be interested in a meet-up! Flying Biscuit, Whole Foods, wherever!

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2010 at 12:37 pm

YES! flying biscuit sounds lovely 🙂

  37. Alyssa @ Bride To Be Fit on July 26, 2010 at 12:40 pm

Agreed…. I always like food better the day after… but fish is one thing that goes RIGHT in the trash if it’s not finished, even sushi, my favorite!

  38. Mali on July 26, 2010 at 1:11 pm

    Gina
I actually just bought goat cheese yesterday b/c you talk about it so much on the blog! Can’t wait to hear that new recipe.
Food does taste much better the next day =)

  39. Naomi on July 26, 2010 at 1:36 pm

yeah i have to sy I prefer female docs too!! I also perfer female massage therapists but last time I got a massage it was a guy and it was surprisingly AMAZING!! have a great day!

  40. Nicole @ Getting Back to the Basics on July 26, 2010 at 1:44 pm

I used to always request a female doctor until an emergency situation had me stuck with a male one. That was when I realized that it doesn’t really matter. They have a job to do and that is all they are interested in. And this is totally not on purpose, but now all my docs are male!

  41. Laura (B Foxy Fitness) on July 26, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Gotta love the dog park, even though fur babies come home looking like ragamuffins 🙂 Both of my wuppers have long hair, so a bath is always in store after the dog park!

I usually prefer female doctors too, if only for the simple reason that they can better relate to certain thoughts, feelings and/or symptoms. But I’m not too picky. One of the best optometrists I ever had was male (coincidently, he was also the cutest doctor I’ve ever had! He had beautiful eyes!).

I can’t wait for that enchilada recipe! Have a great day, girlie!

  42. Wendy on July 26, 2010 at 2:25 pm

    Great-looking leftovers!
I’m intrigued by the breakfast cookie dough cereal. Will look into that, fo sho.
I don’t usually care whether my doc is a woman or a dude. Most important in my book is how sincerely they listen and care.

  43. laura on July 26, 2010 at 3:38 pm

I prefer having a male doctor! Not sure why…i just feel more comforted xx

  44. fittingbackin on July 26, 2010 at 3:51 pm

I have no preference on gender when it comes to doctors! Although I usually do end up with males.

So… I bought an eggplant yesterday. I’m planning to try to make your eggplant curry this week. Wish me luck!!

  45. Aimee on July 26, 2010 at 4:50 pm

Bella’s paws look like a dog who had some serious fun! 🙂 Just discovered your blog, and that top photo of your leftovers has be drooling. It looks so good.

    Good luck at the docs.

  46. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on July 26, 2010 at 5:04 pm

I totally agree- leftovers are sooo darn good!

And I am just more comfortable with a female doctor! Maybe because she has all the same parts, if you know what I mean. Yeah, I’m sure the dude has seen it all, but it’s much easier with a female!

    xo
    Kris

  47. Errign on July 26, 2010 at 5:32 pm

I honestly am okay with either. My general practitioner is a women in her sixties & my gyno is a man in his forties. I thought I would be worried about him being a dude, but he did my first colposcopy last year & I have been seeing him for paps every three months since then & honestly – I appreciate how quick he is, being that paps are one of the things he does all the time. Takes him 30 seconds when it takes my general doc 5 minutes.

  48. Anya @ Fitness & Sunshine on July 26, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Bella looks like she has booties! 🙂 … very dirty booties….

I used to prefer a female doc because I felt like they could relate more, but most of them ended up being very unsympathetic and even looked down on any thoughts I offered. I switched to a male doc who has been very helpful and I’m pretty happy now.

Overall though, as long as they know what they’re talking about it’s okay. Gender on its own shouldn’t play a role.

  49. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 26, 2010 at 7:47 pm

I’ve only ever had female doctors, but I think I’d be okay with a male doctor! It all depends on their personality.

I gotta disagree with you about food tasting better the next day. I’m not a fan of leftovers at all! The veggies always get soggy and mushy! 😛

  50. Dee on July 26, 2010 at 8:08 pm

Although intellectually I know a male doctor would be fine, since I have never ever had one, the idea of getting a gyn exam by a male doctor kinda freaks me out. Having one awesome male doctor would cure me of this, I’m sure. I mean, I’ve had one or two terrible female docs, so I know better than to think gender makes a real difference. Personality really matters.
