Bfast and Eff Ayyy Cues

Hi friends! Happy almost-Friday! Hope your day is going well <3

I woke up with a crazy allergy attack! My nose and throat hate me. Teaching will be interesting, but maybe this means that cooler weather is on the way?

Thank goodness for a nice, hot bfast to help with the ick:

I loved reading all of your FAQ questions!

Here are the ones I picked to answer this morning: [and it ended up being a way more wordy post than I anticipated]

I first got into blogging when the Pilot told me to โ€œget a hobbyโ€ when we lived in Valdosta. I was so bored, we had just moved there, I had quit my soul-sucking job working as a department store area sales manager to become a personal trainer, didnโ€™t have many friends yet since I was always working at the department store when the squadron would have events, and spent my free time online shopping or working out.

One day, I had googled a recipe and Jennaโ€™s blog came up. I remember being shocked to see the types of food she was posting aboutโ€ฆ [โ€œShe likes quinoa?!โ€, โ€œI like quinoa!โ€] and was so excited to see that there was someone out there who enjoyed eating healthy food and working out as much as I did. It kind of gave me a connection at a time where I felt totally lost in my new surroundings, especially is a less-health-minded city than I was used to. From there, I discovered a few other blogs (Kathโ€™s and Tinaโ€™s) and decided that I could do that, too. I thought it would also be a fun way to share recipe and workout ideas with my clients, since theyโ€™d usually ask about what types of workouts and I food I enjoyed. From there, the little blog was born.

[Everyone says this, but] I really didnโ€™t expect anyone to read it. I knew my mom and nana would, since they liked knowing what the Pilot and I were up to, and that a few clients might, but figured it might just be something fun that I did. I had no idea that behind the blogworld was an incredible community of men and women, of all ages, from all over the world, with similar interests, who would become future lifelong friends. dinner

[with Ange, Gena and Sabrina]

Iโ€™ve met SO many amazing, intelligent, talented and caring people through the blogworld. Many of my good friends are bloggers, and having the community and support of the blog world (especially during tough times, like 2 out of the 3 deployments to Afghanistan for the Pilot) has been more valuable to me than you could ever imagine. Even when things were going on in my life that I couldnโ€™t necessarily write about, having the blog helped me get through it.

My #1 tip for blogging is: write about what you love, not what you think others want you to say. Donโ€™t think of it as a โ€œjobโ€, or go after it for the money. If you love what you do, it will show and the readers will follow. Blogging should be fun and the second the fun aspect starts to dwindle, itโ€™s a good time to take a step back and reassess what youโ€™re doing.

*more blogging tips are *here*

My traffic first started to significantly spike about 2 years ago, after my first blog facelift. It became my official-ish full-time job last summer (2010) and I started to focus even more of my attention towards making the blog as fun and informational as I can. I have some pretty huge goals and plans for the blog and am always trying to think of ways to make it better <3

How I keep everything in track:

-I wear a lot of different hats: wife, friend/daughter/sister, mom-to-be, puppy wrangler, fitness instructor, blogger, maid/cook ๐Ÿ˜‰ The thing that helps me keep track of everything and make sure it all gets done is my trusty notebook. I write down EVERYTHING and plan out each day by what needs to be accomplished. I love ninja-kicking to-do lists and crossing things off. Iโ€™ve really learned how to cut myself some slack, so sometimes I take the day off from the gym, ditch the to-do list and take a breather. For the most part, it really helps me stay organized and on top of things.

When the little Nugette arrives, I plan to take time off from teaching, but not really from the blog. The Pilot will probably tweet for me when the baby is born and Iโ€™ll have some guest posts and pre-written content (like the Winter Shape Up!) ready to go ๐Ÿ™‚ Iโ€™ll also post a few updates in the first week or so until I resume my normal schedule.

As far as teaching goes, I still need to figure out how much time off Iโ€™ll get. I only teach part-time, so Iโ€™m not sure what the allotment for time off is. Might be a good time to start figuring that outโ€ฆ. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Iโ€™m really thankful that we have so much family here in Tucson (my family has 132 people in it! Learned that from planning the wedding, haha) so it will be nice to have help when the baby is here and I need to teach a class, get in my daily workout, or take a shower ๐Ÿ˜‰

The second I found out the Pilot was in the military, my heart dropped. Immediately I thought about what it would be like to have him leave, and it scared me. I didnโ€™t grow up in the military and only had a handful of friends with military families, so it wasnโ€™t something I knew a lot about. Itโ€™s funny because the Pilot told me that he used to tell previous girls he dated that he was a kindergarten teacher because the second they found out he was a Pilot, things usually ended pretty quickly. For me, I knew I wanted to marry him pretty shortly after we started dating (I said โ€œthereโ€™s my husbandโ€ the second I saw him!) so it was a sacrifice I was more than happy to make.

Now that Iโ€™ve been in a military relationship for almost 6 years, I wouldnโ€™t trade it for anything. The unknown, moving and deployments have been extremely hard, but when they come home, thereโ€™s nothing like it. Itโ€™s almost like honeymoon period never ended with us.. and I have a feeling it probably wonโ€™t ๐Ÿ˜‰

I started eating an almost entirely gluten-free diet when my doctor did a saliva DNA test to check my hormones and response to gluten. He said I was borderline intolerant (which I knew, because gluten had a knack for making me feel kind of gross) and recommended just staying away from it. This was last fall.

Since then, Iโ€™ve stayed away from gluten for the most part but will have some when I really want it. As long as I donโ€™t have it more than two days in a row, I feel fine. If I do have it on consecutive days, even if itโ€™s a small serving, my stomach isnโ€™t my friend.

Something that is worth the gluten:

I used the train clients, but am now just teaching classes. At the resort, guests can book me for private training sessions, too.

The things I loved the most about training clients were: watching their results happen first-hand (and being able to cheer them on!) and the friendships Iโ€™ve made- many friends were once clients.

The hardest part about training for me was training people who werenโ€™t yet ready for change. They liked the โ€œideaโ€ of having a trainer, but didnโ€™t want to work hard or change their eating habits. This was extremely challenging for me to try to train them and not see any results, and also watch them waste money. Some people paid me to basically hang out with them and chit chat while they โ€œkindaโ€ worked out. In the end, I had to *break up* with these types of clients because it wasnโ€™t beneficial for them, or for me as a trainer. When youโ€™re training at a gym, you want other people at the gym to see your client working hard and changing their health/body. If this isnโ€™t happening, it can affect your credibility.

If youโ€™re still reading, thanks for hanging in there for this long-y post!

Your turn!

How do you keep track of the different *hats* you wear? If youโ€™re a blogger, why/when did you start your blog? If you donโ€™t blog, when did you first start reading blogs ? Whatโ€™s the first blog you discovered?

Off to do the work thang ๐Ÿ˜€ Itโ€™s a Zumba and LaBlast kinda day!

xoxo

I love reading your question posts. ๐Ÿ™‚

How do you keep track of the different *hats* you wear? Hmm. I keep a lot of to do lists too. I try my best to schedule time for each thing too but it often blends over and that’s cool too. If I don’t write things down I forget them so I’m a big fan of notebooks too.

If youโ€™re a blogger, why/when did you start your blog? Whatโ€™s the first blog you discovered? I started blogging a loooong time ago. Like in 2002? That was in high school and I was blogging on Xanga and that is no longer around, at least my blog isn’t. I started my latest blog in late 2008/early2009. The first healthy living blogs I found were Roni’s Weigh and Carrots N Cake. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Shaina on September 8, 2011 at 12:40 pm

I, too, have to carry a planner around with me everywhere. If someone asks me something about my schedule and its not in front of me – yeah, I don’t know haha.

I’ve always found recipes or cooking ideas on blogs, but *yours* is the first one I’ve actually followed on an almost-daily basis about 6 months ago. Being a Navy pilot’s wife, fellow trainer/fitness & health enthusiast, and having a similar sense of humor, I was like OMG I love this blog! We are also trying to get pregnant, so the family page is amazing. I am LOVING all the info. So in a nutshell, thanks for what you do! ๐Ÿ™‚

The military feelings really resonate with me. My hubs is a fed and is gone between 17-21 days of the month. It IS like a honeymoon. It’s also really hard. It’s always nice to know there are others in this community going through the same thing.

  4. Ashley O. @ The Vegetable Life on September 8, 2011 at 12:41 pm

I started reading blogs when I first began to lose weight a few years back. I found myself constantly wanting to check in on the blogs that I thought were interesting (Yours, Tina’s, Kaths, Caitlins) an dslowly my love for the community grew. I loved reading and commenting. Soon after my then fiance and and I moved in together I really learned that I loved to cook and found myself playing in the kitchen. It was at that point when people starting liking my meals that I decided to share them with the world. I mixed both my love for reading blogs and my love for cooking into my own blog at the start of 2011! I look forward to blogging each and everyday! I am so glad that I took the leap to start my own (even though I was so very nervous to do so!)

  5. Allison @ Food For Healing on September 8, 2011 at 12:44 pm

    loved reading this!
i can’t even remember the first blog i found, but i am so thankful for the ones i continue to read today! I blog, i’m a part-timer, life gets busy so i just go with the flow.
thankfully i dont have too many ‘hats’ to wear at the moment, but lists definitely do help keep me sane!

  6. Catherine C. on September 8, 2011 at 12:44 pm

I’m not a blogger, but I started reading blogs about a year and a half ago. I *think* i started with FitSugar and from some links they posted I discovered some more I love. I know I found yours early on and it has continued to stay in my top 3 ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Julie (A Case of the Runs) on September 8, 2011 at 12:46 pm

My blog is pretty much 5 years old, and I was online journaling for YEARS before that. Some of the first blogs I read had to do with dieting, sadly, and then the next were about vegan recipes. These “living” blogs were only things I starting reading fairly recently.

As for “hats,” I am a full-time worker, so I don’t blog everyday and don’t feel that I am interesting enough to do so (mostly due to my “real” job!). I don’t make significant money off of the blog, so it really just is a hobby. Running is my other hobby, as is reading, and playing my guitar.

  8. Michelle on September 8, 2011 at 12:47 pm

This is a great post ๐Ÿ™‚ I started blogging almost two years ago (I think) and its really just a small hobby for me. The way I juggle all my hats is with lists, too. I live for them! When I’m feeling anxious, I just start making lists and it instantly calms me down.
    Hope you’re feeling better!

  9. Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on September 8, 2011 at 12:48 pm

LOVED this post ๐Ÿ™‚ You should answer more questions more often!! It’s neat learning more about you!

  10. Katie @ Plates and Paste on September 8, 2011 at 12:48 pm

Wow! Those were good questions to answer and thank you for being so open with your readers ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve only been blogging for a few months…and I really don’t know how people like you post 2 or 3 times a day. I barely can find the time to write 1 post a day. And there are times when I struggle for content…but I realize I’m just in the beginning stages and am still finding my niche.

I’m so happy to be a part of the blogging community now. I’ve always loved people and getting to know them. My favorite books are memoirs just because I’m nosy and love reading about other people’s lives and how I relate to them. The blogging community is so wonderful and I was so surprised as to how many people instantly reach out to you and are about you. The first blog I started reading was Iowa Girl Eats…she actually led me to your blog through posts she wrote and your the second blog I started reading ๐Ÿ™‚

I do wear many hats…I work a full time job in marketing, I have a volunteer position as marketing director and fundraiser for a non-profit theater company, working on an independent theater project, I’m website/social media chair of the St. Pete Junior League, I’m helping my mom move from CT to FL…on top of that I live with my bf and try and spend quality time with him and also see my friends. A lot of times I am very overwhelmed and it takes awhile for things to get done. But I agree…a lot of times you need to step back and give yourself a break. I do love being a busy bee though and wouldn’t have it any other way!

I think I mentioned it on here before, but the first blog I ever read (before I knew what blog even meant) was yours ! A girlfriend of mine’s sister read your blog daily. She kept sharing with me the things you were posting and then finally I had to check out what all the hub bub was about and I’m so glad I did. This blog is probably the whole reason I have a blog now. I was so inspired and grateful that a person I didn’t even know was posting all these great workouts, eats etc. I couldn’t get enough. Here I am 3 years later… still reading ๐Ÿ™‚ I think you know why. You rock G!

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 10:47 pm

      you rock, lovey!

  12. Jennie on September 8, 2011 at 12:54 pm

Your blog is the first blog I came across randomly and I just fell in love with it ๐Ÿ™‚ Your eats are very similar to mine and the love story between you and the Pilot is so sweet.

I have a random question, what kind of tea do you drink now that you are pregnant? I recently found out we are expecting (I am over the moon) but havent seen my Dr. yet. I am dying for something warm to sip in the morning but am obviously avoiding caffeine and herbal teas.

    Thanks!!!

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 10:47 pm

      yayayayaay! CONGRATS!
i’ve been drinking ginger tea, occasional chai and peppermint- none of the *weird* ones i used to enjoy ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. Katie on September 8, 2011 at 12:57 pm

I adore posts like this… I’m sure they’re time-consuming, but they’re such a joy to read! Thanks for sharing yourself with us ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Ryan on September 8, 2011 at 12:59 pm

I love how personal your blog is!

I started my blog a year ago, but became more consistant this last month. It’s part of my health coaching business but was torn about how personal to make it so I enjoy your tips!

First blog I ever read: Gena’s “Choosing Raw” http://www.choosingraw.com

  15. Holly @ The Runny Egg on September 8, 2011 at 1:04 pm

The first blog I started reading was actually yours! I used to read the weight watchers message boards and someone mentioned your breakfast cookie — from there I was hooked!

I started my first blog last year because I thought it would be fun. And it was — except I kept trying to do what other bloggers do and it wasn’t fun. Now I blog when I want to and about things that interest me. Most of the time I am only writing for me and my mom (since she always wants to know what is going on with us) and I love it now. I don’t even check my page views, etc anymore because that isn’t the point!

  16. Laura on September 8, 2011 at 1:04 pm

I so agree with you about the military relationship! When I met my husband, I thought it would just be a couple dates because I didn’t want to get serious with someone who was going to leave. (I had ended a previous relationship and one of the big issues was the college difference and only seeing him on weekends). I only had a chance to be at one of his homecomings, but when they opened those hangar doors it was the most amazing experience of my life. I’m glad that he did not re-enlist because it wasn’t the right career for him, but there are some things I miss about it. (consistent haircuts, desert camis with the sleeves rolled – swoon, Birthday Balls…)

I started my blog to work on my writing and to join this fabulous community! i’ve only been blogging for a few months but I’m loving it. The first blog I found was Jennsylvania because I love her books.

Hats? Wife, dog mom, athlete, entrepreneur, dancer, daughter, unofficial personal trainer, employee… I’m spread a tad thin.

  17. Kathryn @ Flopoodle on September 8, 2011 at 1:05 pm

I love this! Jenna’s was the first blog I discovered, too ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been reading these blogs for over a year now, and I started my own a little over a month ago. I’m having SO much fun with it and can’t wait to see where the next weeks, months, years take me. Blogging while working full time is definitely not easy, I wake up earlier and stay up later than I used to to get posts done and test recipes, but it’s so fun that I don’t mind ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. chelsea on September 8, 2011 at 1:05 pm

I don’t remember the first blog I read sadly. I’ve been blogging for a really long time now though ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve had the blog I have now for like 2 years and loove it.

As for keeping track of my life I live by my planner 100%. Quizzes, shopping trips, exams, and work are all written in there haha.

  19. Lauren A. on September 8, 2011 at 1:12 pm

The first blog I discovered was Tina’s at Carrots n’ Cake and I was like OMG, there are other people in the world that like peanut butter on their oats just as much as I do! From there I found Kath’s blog, your blog, and a bunch of others. I do not have many friends who love to talk about food as much as I do, so it is nice to have a little foodie community to be part of.

I had toyed with the idea of starting a blog for the longest time, and I finally pulled the trigger about 6 months ago to document my experience doing an elimination diet. It has helped me stay honest with myself, and not cheat or fall of the wagon. I plan to keep on blogging as I continue towards a more “normal” diet. It is kind of neat to look back on things from a few weeks ago. I can only imagine what it is like looking back on over a years worth of posts.

I love making to do lists too, especially when I have so much going on that I can’t sleep at night. It helps clear my head. I also love using google calendar as a tool to organize everything I have going on.

  20. Lisa @ Fresh Spinach on September 8, 2011 at 1:13 pm

Lately, things have been so busy that juggling my hats has been hard. I’m a soon-to-be wife, the chef of the house, I’m planning and doing most of the things for a move (almost done!), planning a destination wedding, and still trying to stay on top of family affairs (grandparents, and parents), and my blog.

I started my blog to share my experiences as a vegan. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to do, and without support and tips and tricks, it’s even harder. So I did it to support myself, and others who may be exploring the world of vegan eats. It has been so rewarding and so much fun for me! I absolutely love the blog and the readers and I look forward to it’s growth and continued success.

It’s been almost a year since I started the blog, and I look forward to many more years ahead. The success and opportunities I’ve had have been amazing!

  21. Terran Leigh on September 8, 2011 at 1:18 pm

The first blog I read was my friend Danika’s. She is more a friend-of-a-friend so I had not been in touch with her for a while. I posted on my Facebook to see if anyone knew of anyone blogging or thought it may be a good idea.

I wanted to start blogging to help me track my weight-loss journey and to help keep my accountable since people (hopefully) will be reading it and enjoying it and I don’t want to let readers down! So I started there and have worked my way from blog to blog looking for other inspiring stories and blogs where I can take useful tips away (your workouts…LOVE).

A question I have for you would be how to grow your audience? Also do you have recommendations for different blog sites over others? Thanks! And as always I look forward to the next post ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Brittany on September 8, 2011 at 1:20 pm

I am also a fan of the to-do list. Nothing is more satisfying than scratching off every last item! Presently I’m a girlfriend, dog-mom, and searching for employment. 2 hats I’m happy to have, one…I’d rather give back ๐Ÿ˜‰

But it was through my unemployment that I decided to start a blog with my good friend. So far it has been fantastic! It provides me with a creative outlet and helps us keep in touch with each other. We’re still working on developing a “blog rhythm” of sorts, but we are blogging about things we love and THAT is what counts!

More FAQ days! I love reading them ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Amy on September 8, 2011 at 1:34 pm

I do mental to do lists. Sometimes big wall sized post it lists. Google calender sms reminders. I used a N900 for a while but we switched cell phone services when we moved to our current house since our old one didn’t work here. The N900 uses a sim and we don’t have sim cards now. Anyway, I might go to teaching 75% in the spring instead of the 25% I’m at now. If I do I’ll pony up the dough to buy a new smart phone so I can keep track of all I need to do that way so it’s all in one place.

I started blogging back in 1999, but I’m a lazy blogger. I don’t post with any regularity and I start/stop blogs on a whim. I have been thinking about starting a wellness blog to go with a wellness business I am thinking about starting, but we’ll see if I do it now or wait until the little ones (2.5 yrs & 5 months) are a bit older. I started reading blogs back in 1998 when they were still referred to as weblogs by most people lol.

  24. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on September 8, 2011 at 1:39 pm

Great Q&A Gina!! Your blog was the first one I found, and like your story about Jenna’s blog, it was one of those “She likes quinoa? I like quinoa” moments!! I am a big to-do lister as well, so that’s usually how I keep on top of all my tasks – FT job in marketing, fitness instructor, blogger, friend, sister, daughter, roommate, etc.
And PS. I think you and the Pilot are one of the cutest couples I “know”!

  25. Jen Correa @ Mom's Gotta Run on September 8, 2011 at 1:43 pm

My hats change with the need. Obviously at work I have a diff hat than at home with the kids, but sometimes it’s two hats at once i.e. working from home with a sick baby. I started blogging last year, but only started blogging consistently over the last month. To see that even 1-2 people that I do not know read it is crazy to me. It, like running, is an outlet for me.

  26. Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty on September 8, 2011 at 1:49 pm

I love this!! It’s so great to know fun details about people’s lives.

The first blog I read was Oh She Glows and I loved it! I remember that I stayed up all night and read every single post. Now I read about 100 blogs, (I need to do some editing to that though).. You blog is one that I read religiously. I agree with above, The Pilot and your love story is very sweet and I LOVE all the baby stuff since we are hoping for a nugget of our own very soon! ๐Ÿ™‚ I just don’t comment much, but I read every single post!

I started blogging 2 years ago. I love every aspect of it. Although my blog is not a top blog (or even close), and I make 0 money from it, I love it. It’s a diary for me, plus I love writing, and I LOVE the community. I think bloggers are beautiful people and I’m so grateful to be apart of it! ๐Ÿ™‚ As for the juggling, I find it hard sometimes, especially with a full time job now in which I work evenings, (aka don’t cook dinner), but I just take it day by day!!

  27. Jenn on September 8, 2011 at 2:03 pm

My heart sunk too when Trevor told me he was in the military (much less stationed in Japan at the time), but when ya know ya know. I’m sure you feel the same way, but regardless of the moving, deployments, work hours, I’ve never been treated better. Just an hour at night with my hubby puts a blue day back in check.

I started blogging kind of last August, but really committed this summer. Just like you said, the military wives community is great but sometimes its lonely too. The blogging community can connect those interests that might not be part of the squadron. Its been a fun way to share things, keep positive, and still be “me” even when this life can be a lot about our guys ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hope you feel better!

I just started blogging, but honestly YOUR blog was the first I discovered! Friend told me about The Breakfast Cookie (haha yes it was said in capital letters!), and after that I think I read through like a month of your posts, then your blogroll, and that’s where it all started.

I have to say that you and all the other healthy living bloggers have changed my life. I now eat way more cleanly (used to drink Diet Coke and eat all the fake non-fat, sugar-free + splenda stuff), and have a healthier perspective on my body and on exercise and on life in general ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been reading your blog for a long time! I started reading it before I got married and I’ll have been married 2 years next month. I first discovered the Nutritionista when doing research about how to start eating healthier for my wedding and and through her blog, I found yours. I just started blogging a few months ago and it’s so fun, it’s something that just naturally fits in because I want to do it!

I moved about 6 months ago, have a job I still haven’t mastered, just got out of an 8 year relationship, and trying to schedule workouts with making friends and blog posts has been trying at times. Any experience with this and or advice would be appreciated!

    Love this post : )

I started my blog when I went back to school to become a dietitian. I needed an outlet and a place where I could post my thoughts and things that interested me. I still say that I blog to stay sane. I started readings blogs when I was ghostwriting for a women’s health practitioner and doing research for some of her blog posts. It was so cool to realize there were all these people out there interested in the same things I was. Fitnessista was actually one of the first blogs I started reading : )

I started reading blogs in July when I was looking for a diet after having my baby in April. I started the Cinch plan and found a blogger blogging about her progress. I then stumbled upon your page and immediately became hooked. You are fabulous and I feel like a stalker now because I check your page a million times looking for updates. I started my own blog in Auguest to help motivate me in my weight loss journey. Im so new to this blogging world but from what I’ve seen, I love it.

Thanks for answering my question G! That was exciting. I love all your answers. I love wearing a million hats, I feel like that is what keeps the spice in my life. Doing the same things day in and day out makes me really lethargic. I need to change to keep me going. And I think learning to adapt to new situations is what life is all about anyways.

Ohh those oats look delicious! I’ve never combined protein powder with oats but I think it’s about time that I do… especially if it means making them chocolate flavored! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for all the wonderful faq responses! I really look up to you and admire you so I’m especially interested in how you manage to juggle everything. You do an awesome job at it and I only hope that I can one day make it seem as smooth as you!

I started reading blogs in January when I realized that I had gained a lot of weight unexpectedly. I knew I was getting bigger, but was too busy dealing with family illness issues and my own health issues to really pay attention. As soon as I started reading these blogs I was excited to change it up. I’d always focused on eating diet foods before but had never just ate healthfully. The more I read, the more I knew that I wanted to be involved in this community so I started my blog in late April/May. I just celebrated my 50th post today and am excited about where my blog can go from here!

I started my blog when I moved from DC to the SF Bay Area last January – I was unemployed and needed a hobby. I still feel like a newbie and figuring out what works for me. I found my first blog, Baking Bites, while searching for a NY style crumb cake recipe to bake for brunch at my parent’s house and through her “Bites From Other Blogs” posts each Wednesday began finding new blogs and then through those blogs finding new links, etc. I don’t remember how I found yours, but I am so glad that I did!

SN: I love what you said about the honeymoon period. My Dad is a career Marine (retiring with 30 years this June), and when I asked my Mom the secret to their marriage she said that things have always stayed interesting – always moving, him leaving, how great it is when he comes home, and when he leaves (even if just for a few weeks) being reminded how important he is.

I <3 Eff Ayy Cues!! It's so fun to learn more about you. Checking in every day really makes you feel like a friend. I'm pretty sure my husband thinks I'm insane b/c I'll regularly tell him stories from the blog or use a recipe and say "you know I think we could be real friends". Ha-ha. I'm so happy you started this blog and are willing to share so much with all of us. We are better people for it.

Well, I’m new to the blogging world, having just started this past Sunday! I decided to take the blogging plunge when I became frustrated with my job. I have a huge passion for children’s/young adult literature and was anxious that I didn’t have a creative outlet to share that love. Not only will this be a fun side-project, I think it’ll be really good for my career developments since I (eventually) want to become a reading specialist. I’m excited to see the directions my blog takes, even if I’m a little unsure of how to start!

    Hey Gina,

I was wondering if sometime in the near future you can do a post about easy snacks. I’m a busy grad student, and it’s often my go-to snack as i can just toss one in my bag without thinking about it. I like Luna bars, but the ingredient list is kind of long. I like Larabars too, but they seem to have a bunch of sugar in them, even though it’s natural and from dates. I tend to already have a piece to fruit with both breakfast and lunch, breakfast is oatmeal with almonds and a banana mixed in, and lunch is often ab+j on ezekiel with grapes or a peach. not exactly gourmet, but I’m busy! And anyway, I probably get enough sugar from the fruit that a Larabar or other high sugar option is probably too much, so I’m trying to come up with other ideas. I’m probably over analyzing this, so I thought I would write to you. Oh, and typically the snacks i eat are in the 200 calorie range. Thanks!

Your blog is the first blog I ever read! I found it about 3-4 mos after you started it and I remember reading in stealth for awhile (and then Kath, Tina, Jenna, Heab, CCK, and other and I was like…I am doing this too!) So I started mine. Little did I know what I was getting myself into but a few years and a few thousand posts later, it’s truly been one of the best things I ever did! Just blogged about this last week actually.

I love the questions everyone asked and your answers. Thanks for featuring my question.

Being that you’re a PT teacher and not a FT one AND that you have family in town AND that you will have some pre-written posts and have the Pilot willing to stand in, sounds like you have things mapped out. Those early, sleep deprived, crazy first few weeks and months can be tricky for so many new moms but glad to hear you’re going to just take it all in stride and cut yourself slack as needed ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sharing! I love finding out more about bloggers :). I started blogging a little over two months ago…and I love it!

  45. Jennifer on September 8, 2011 at 5:17 pm

I only read blogs once a day and always just start with whatever post is first so I had no idea you’d asked people for questions. Reading this title I was like ‘dang the baby brain suck is hitting Gina hard today’ ๐Ÿ™‚ (ya know how pregnant women are always saying the baby is taking their brain because they’re forgetting stuff…head is all over the place…etc).

Anyway…the first blog I ever found was SmoothieGirl when one of my Dr’s told me I had to do something to increase my protein. I searched for protein shake recipes and found her blog. From her blog I found Heather (eats almond b) and from hers I found yours. Those are the 3 I still read regularly. I always check out the others y’all link but y’all are my go to’s. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoyed this post- I didn’t know much about how you came into blogging. I don’t blog, but started reading blogs after reading Half-Assed by the blogger pastaqueen. I saw the book in the bookstore first, and upon reading it, it mentioned that the book was based on her blog. I enjoyed her book so much that wanted more of her writing, and so I read my first blog. From there I checked out her blogroll, and very quickly started reading fitnessista, HTP, and Roni’s Weigh blogs. Now I’m pretty much an addict and my google reader has exploded!

I started blogging in September, 2009. I love it! I sometimes I get frustrated and into a mopey “No one reads it…” sort of mood but then I remember, it’s just fun. I like creating new recipes and having inspiration for being creative in the kitchen. I’ve always loved to cook and bake, so my blog is an extension of that love.

Great post. Love the wiz of oz mug!! my boyfriend is in the military too, my heart ranked when I found out that he was getting deployed yet again. But here we are tour #2 nearly 3 years down and waiting to spend the rest of my life with him. We’ve known each other for 13 years and I was his first kiss, ironic right?

Love this post and I hope you do more questions & answers like this one!

I just started my blog about 3 months ago but I have been reading them forever, about 4 years, I was just always too nervous to start one but finally got the nerve to! First blog I read was Kath’s, then Tina’s, then Jenna’s, Caitlin’s, then Meghann’s.

I think I found yours from a blogger meet up you had with Jenna and Caitlin? I saw you in the pic on their blog and thought, “ohhh she’s so pretty I wanna see what her blog is about!” And from there I was hooked, that was probably 3 years ago? Now I read so many more blogs and I love it, I don’t know what I’d do without them and this fantastic community!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey, I missed my shot to ask my question! I was wondering if you still wear your wunder unders during your pregnancy… I’m 10 weeks and looking for a transitional pant. I teach high school so I move around a lot, and they seem kinda great, but I don’t want to buy something I can’t keep wearing.

Also, “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet” was totally playing on the radio when I told my husband we were expecting!

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 10:34 pm

yep, i’m still able to wear almost all of my lulu stuff
so sweet- congrats to you and your hub!
