Blast from the past

After almost four years, Pinkie, my beloved laptop is on the verge of biting the dust.

pinkie

We had a long life together <3

First my keyboard started being temperamental โ€“I have to turn the battery switch on and off to get it to type, which only does the trick sometimes

and today, the wireless card decided to stop working.

We transferred 20,000 items onto an external hard drive before I get the black screen of death and lose all my files.

Here are some gems we found in the process ๐Ÿ˜‰

MACBOOK! It’ll take some getting used to if you aren’t familiar with Macs and costs a pretty penny, but soo worth it.

    • Julia on February 19, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I just switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro and I am never going back. I am totally in love. I am seriously technologically challenged and I find the MacOS to be so much more intuitive and the hardware is a lot sturdier.

      • Rebecca on February 19, 2012 at 8:21 pm

I agree with Quinn and Julia! I switched to a MacBook Pro over four years ago. It’s lasted longer than any PC I had ever owned and it does SO much. It’s a hefty price to pay, but I think it’s worth it.

        • Jennifer on February 19, 2012 at 9:12 pm

I agree! I’ve had my Macbook for six years…still going strong! I am not great with computers, but it was so easy to set up. I would much rather work on my computer than the PC the company provides me with.

    • Christine @ BookishlyB on February 19, 2012 at 9:44 pm

Agreed! I was a staunch anti- MAC owning proponent and then my husband convinced me when my second Dell quit. It’s been so worth it (which makes sense, because I love my iPod and iPhone).

  2. Elise on February 19, 2012 at 8:13 pm

If you’re looking for PC (instead of a Mac) a Lenovo ThinkPad is definitely the way to go in terms of reliability. But, they’re pretty ugly if you’re looking for something cute. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Joelle on February 19, 2012 at 8:13 pm

MAC all the way! My laptop died a few months ago and I god a macbook. BEST THING EVER!

  4. kirsten on February 19, 2012 at 8:14 pm

    macbook, they are the best!

  5. Amber Adgerson on February 19, 2012 at 8:14 pm

Try a MacBook Pro. I’d have taken you for a Mac user if I hadn’t seen that pic…they last longer and are better for web page design, photo editing, etc..

  6. Sara on February 19, 2012 at 8:19 pm

Mac books are indeed wonderful, albeit a pricey wonder lol; but you never have to worry about viruses or black screens of death. I think their only flaw is that the software likes to update more often. But all you have to do for that is restart it ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. kellyo on February 19, 2012 at 8:20 pm

    Mac!! You’ll never regret it!

  8. Stephanie @ Legally Blinde on February 19, 2012 at 8:20 pm

If you’re going for a PC, I absolutely loved my Sony Vaio. I have a Dell Studio now, and I wish I had gotten another Vaio instead! The Dell works fine, but it’s extremely bulky and pretty heavy. Btw, that’s so cool that you have a picture from your 2nd date!! That’s so early in the relationship – how fun!

    • Krista @ Healthy Berg on February 19, 2012 at 9:12 pm

I love my Sony Vaio too. My last two computers have both been Vaios ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Jen on February 19, 2012 at 9:20 pm

I agree have had 2 Sony desktops and love them, I only updated because I wanted a newer one after 5 years but old one was still going strong!

  9. Jennifer @veganpcosgoddess on February 19, 2012 at 8:22 pm

I agree with everyone else, MacBook Pro for sure!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Danielle on February 19, 2012 at 8:22 pm

I have the same laptop as you in green, except it’s only a couple years old and I still love it!

Those pictures are so cute! It’s super weird every time you post pictures of yourself with blue eyes, they made you look so different!

  11. Cindy on February 19, 2012 at 8:26 pm

Once you go Mac, you never go back.
Devoted Apple user since 1986. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Hillary on February 19, 2012 at 8:27 pm

Mac 100%. So user-friendly and worth the price!

  13. Kate on February 19, 2012 at 8:27 pm

definitely a macbook!! i’m in college and i can’t tell you how many people have suddenly lost their files on their computers suddenly, but i’ve never ever heard of anyone complain about macbooks. it’s definitely worth the investment

    • Maggie on February 19, 2012 at 10:18 pm

Same here! I had never even used a Mac before I went to school but bought one because I was so frustrated with the PCs my family owned constantly needing tech work done on them. Four years later and $0 spent on repairs (except a hard drive for a just in case) my Mac is working just as well as it did when I first bought it.

You will never find anything as streamlined and common-sense oriented as an Apple Product

  14. Laura on February 19, 2012 at 8:28 pm

I love my Mac also. I know how to use a PC still but I wouldn’t want to ๐Ÿ™‚

Your post needs a snake warning! I’m terrified of snakes! I told my husband that movies should come with snake warnings because I nearly jumped through the movie theater ceiling watching the 1st part of the final Harry Potter movies when the snake came out. I just can’t handle it. Aghh!

  15. Laura Jane @ Recovering Chocoholic on February 19, 2012 at 8:29 pm

I’ve always had bad luck with laptops (never tried a MacBook, though). They slow down so much after just a year or two of use. I really like my desktop because it’s 3 years old, but it’s not slow, and I like to work at my desk. However, I also have an iphone and my husband has an iPad, so I have lots of other ways to use a computer not at my desk. I’ve considered a MacBook before, but obviously the price is a concern and also I couldn’t use Windows LiveWriter! From what I’ve heard, there’s no real substitute for live writer on a Mac.

  16. Lauren on February 19, 2012 at 8:32 pm

i love my mac! i never used to be a huge fan, but after going through two PC laptops in the span of about 3 years, i decided to bite the bullet. i’m not sure i think pros are necessary, but they unfortunately have stopped making the regular white macbook. i bought mine refurbished from apple, and it’s been great!

i feel so lost when i try to use a PC now. it’s amazing how simple macs really are!

  17. TiffanyS on February 19, 2012 at 8:36 pm

MAC MAC MAC!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love it! I think my Macbook is very user friendly and it is so much faster than my old pc!

  18. chelsea on February 19, 2012 at 8:40 pm

I was going to say Mac but it looks like everyone else has already said it haha ๐Ÿ˜‰

  19. Jessica on February 19, 2012 at 8:41 pm

Definitely a Mac. People are not lying. Once you get a Mac, you will not be able to stand a PC due to the superiority of the Mac! Plus, no viruses!

  20. Joss on February 19, 2012 at 8:42 pm

    Mac! p.s cute pictures ๐Ÿ˜€

  21. meagan on February 19, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Macbook. I’ve had a Macbook for going on 7 years and have only had one major repair–a hard drive replacement. However, it’s still speedy, the keyboard works, etc. I mean, this computer went through college with me, several road-trips, vacations and me being a writer. So…it’s worth it, to me!

  22. Lacy on February 19, 2012 at 8:46 pm

As the other Mac users have said, go with a Macbook but here are some reasons:
-I have had the same macbook for 6 years and it still running perfectly
-If you get the 3year warranty everything is covered except water damage….it is really nice being able to walk in to any Apple store (with an appointment) and hand it over and say ‘say fix it’ and they do no charge
-Apple does transfer data from PCs to Macs and has classes if you are uneasy about switching over from a PC
-Plus with a macbook you can add skins to make them less plain(seeing your current computer is pink ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) http://www.istyles.com/laptops-tablets-ereaders-macbook-skins-c-506_494.html?page=0

  23. Olivia May on February 19, 2012 at 8:48 pm

    Mac!

  24. Jessica @ Busy Living Healthy on February 19, 2012 at 8:53 pm

Go with a Mac! Once you go Mac, you won’t go back! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  25. Emily @LivingLongfellow on February 19, 2012 at 8:55 pm

Macbook air is awesome. It’s the cheapest option out there for macs. I was worried about not having enough space on my hard drive, and then realized I could just buy an external hard drive if I fill up the space. It’s small enough to fit in my large purse and travel with, but large enough to see the screen easily.

  26. Socal Rachel on February 19, 2012 at 8:57 pm

    Anything by Dell

  27. Katie on February 19, 2012 at 8:58 pm

Holy crap I think I would oopsy myself if that snake was on my head!!!

Yeah, I’m really bad with technology. I have a Dell and it’s my boyfriends college laptop (which was 7 years ago). The Macbooks look really cool though! ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Camille on February 19, 2012 at 9:00 pm

MACBOOK!!! Just go try it out at the store and talk to one of the techs. I was hesitant at first since I had been a long time PC user…but seriously, “once you go mac, you can’t go bac”

  29. Jess on February 19, 2012 at 9:02 pm

Not that it needs to be said again but I would go Macbook Pro. I love my mac and it is 5 years old and still going strong. You get your moneys worth.

  30. Laury on February 19, 2012 at 9:14 pm

Love it. You are so cute.

Is that a real snakeon Tom??…eeek!

We have a HP but you should just get a Macbook. They are the best, I don’t have one but wish I did! I think all other laptops kinda suck.

Hope you are feeling well!!! Have a great night!

  31. Caroline on February 19, 2012 at 9:27 pm

Macbook air! Unless you need tons of space on your laptop or use the cd drive – if so, macbook pro. I love my macbook air!

  32. Christie Lombardo on February 19, 2012 at 9:27 pm

    Macbook Pro!!!

  33. Alexis on February 19, 2012 at 9:33 pm

    A) You should post more of your wedding pics!!
    B) SO glad the pilot ditched the hair gel. Yikes.
    C) Another Macbook vote:)

  34. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on February 19, 2012 at 9:40 pm

Aw thanks for sharing all these photos, they were so fun to see!!

And yet another vote for Mac. Seriously, there’s nothing better.

  35. Kaitlyn @ Keeping up with Kaitlyn on February 19, 2012 at 9:42 pm

I know everyone else has already said it, but I can’t help it… MACBOOK PRO!!! I had Dells up until middle of my college sophomore year (I’m a junior now). My first dell was great, then my parents decided to get me a new computer for college, I got a top of the line Dell which cost the same as my MAC and it didn’t last me 2 years.
I spent many a night on the phone with the Dell workers in India. I hated that thing and swore the next computer I got would be a MAC
Two Christmas ago, my mom surprised me with my MAC PRO and I am still in love to this day! I’ll never go back!
So if you have the finances, I would highly suggest getting a MAC. It’s worth the money!!

  36. Colleen on February 19, 2012 at 9:54 pm

I can’t believe how cute and teeny Viesa and Bella are!

  37. Emily on February 19, 2012 at 10:00 pm

So lucky you were able to pull all of your data off Pinky. My college computer bit the dust a couple of years ago, and we lost everything. The music and files are a disappointment for sure, but I so wish we had all of those pictures saved somewhere safe. I didn’t think I would need the memory prompts in the future! Now that we have the little Squishy Man, I’m backing up everything!

  38. Leslie Wingate on February 19, 2012 at 10:05 pm

My laptop is dying too. Red and green bouncy screen. ๐Ÿ™

  39. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on February 19, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Love all the photos!! Both of you look so young! And, if you’re not against going to the dark side of Macs, I would recommend that. I’ve used both Macs and PCs heavily, and really prefer my Mac.

  40. amy on February 19, 2012 at 10:31 pm

Oh man, that is not fun but, inevitable…………………for your laptop.
I just got a new one, today, it is so fun to have something new………………:)
    Good luck shopping!

  41. Jenn on February 19, 2012 at 10:44 pm

I’m going to side with everyone on here, MacBooks are the way to go. I had a regular macbook from 07 that is still going strong only my mom uses it now. I now have a 15 in macbook pro and its amazing. They can be a bit pricey for sure. My boyfriend and I actually found a fantastic deal on mine though. It’s a $2000 computer and I got it for 920! We found the deal on ebay and had a fun time in a bidding war. I definitely recommend if you go this route make sure it still have Apple Care (their insurance) that way if there is any problems its still covered by apple. Also if you make the investment get the Apple Care, an Apple employee even told me, “we make more money off you if you don’t get it” everything is cover, and you can re up your coverage!

    Hope this helps! xox

by the way, the best photo gems always fun to find!

  42. laura on February 19, 2012 at 10:47 pm

    MAC MAC MAC!

  43. Heather on February 19, 2012 at 11:08 pm

I heart my Vaio. But if $ wasn’t and object I would totally get a Mac….have fun computer shopping!

  44. Lindsay on February 19, 2012 at 11:18 pm

I have a Mac and I will never go back. It will basically be like having a large version of your iPhone….I say that because when I got my iPhone it was like having a mini version of my laptop ๐Ÿ™‚ My MacBook is going to be 4 next week and it’s only had one major issue – okay, the hard drive started to die, I know that sounds awful but it was under warranty because I got AppleCare (definitely do that) and I had it back within 2 hours with a brand new hard drive and an updated operating system – so I can’t complain.

Aside from the fact that it’s ridiculously user friendly the customer service is incredible. My charger broke a few months ago because the plastic part was splitting, even though my computer was out of warranty, they gave me a new one for free – which was awesome because I would have had to spend $90 on one. You don’t have to worry so much about viruses either – I say so much because my computer got the Mac Defender thing that was going around earlier this year, but I took it to the Mac store and they told me to “leave my pesky machine and go shopping”, 45 minutes later it was fixed – did I mention that was free too even though my computer was out of warranty? See ๐Ÿ™‚ You really can’t go wrong with a Mac!

  45. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on February 19, 2012 at 11:23 pm

Oh my god that SNAKE! Ewwww!
While everyone will say Mac Mac Mac…the price tag is hard to swallow. I just got an HP ProBook and love it. 1/3 the cost of a Mac.

  46. ilovefetacheese on February 19, 2012 at 11:34 pm

awwww i wanna see more pics!!! so cute

  47. Angie on February 19, 2012 at 11:34 pm

Macbook. Mine flew off the roof of my car and hit the asphalt the other day and it’s still working like a charm!

  48. Molly on February 20, 2012 at 12:11 am

splurge and go for a MAC! you wonโ€™t be buying a new one in four years and youโ€™ll love lifeโ€” theyโ€™re so worth it!

  49. Catherine on February 20, 2012 at 12:20 am

I have had three MacBooks that were the LOVES OF MY LIFE and each one lasted for over six years in spite of lots of abuse. I actually still have all of them and they ALL work – I use them for storage and print servers, etc. I just got a MacBook Air and it is a DREAM. It weighs NOTHING to carry around (I’m a grad student and use it every second of my life and take it everywhere). Literally nothing goes wrong with it and it’s so fast – and the battery can last for almost 10 hours!

  50. Ali on February 20, 2012 at 12:38 am

GIRL! Most adorable photos EVER!! Good luck with the new Lappy!
