Friday Faves
Hellooooo. Happy Friday! Thank you so much for your awesome comments on my yoga teacher confession post. Let it be known there were no sanskrit fails this week, and the only person doing kombuchakasana was me after class. ๐
Itโs still been raining like crazy over here, so weโve been enjoying lots of indoor adventures.
[Eating pickles at Jumpinโ Jacks, where they can run free and jump on all of the inflatable structuresโฆinstead of the couch]
If we can catch some sun, Iโm excited to take the girls berry picking this afternoon! We tried to go yesterday, but it rained, so we picked froyo toppings instead.
Weโve already done a number on the teeny blueberry bush in our backyard,
so itโs time to outsource.
Itโs the weekend! YES. All week I look forward to Friday because I finally get to hang out with the Pilot. During the week, we constantly high-five and switch off (he gets home from work and I jet off to teach at night, then we grab a glass of wine, clean the kitchen and crash), and the weekend is like a big exhale from the hustle and bustle. We donโt have a lot planned: just a date night, a baby shower, and Iโm headed to coffee with a friend. Other than that, Iโm looking forward to getting more things for the house put together and enjoying time as a family.
[Hoping to have our house tour up soon. My 50mm lens is stuck on the camera, so itโs been fine for food photos, but terrible for anything else. Hoping I can get it fixed and use it like a real camera again.]
Itโs also Fatherโs Day this weekend! You know Iโll be giving the Pilot the same gift he gave me: some morning hours of extra solitude and sleep before we chill as a fam.
In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear about your faves, too, if youโd like to shout them out in the comments section.
-These cookies (<โ I get them at Thrive Market). YOU GUYSSSSSSSSS. Iโm a huge fan of the Simple Mills brand for baking mixes, and it hadnโt even occurred to me to try their boxed cookies. They are like the little Chips Ahoy cookies from my childhood, but made with awesome ingredients. The girls LOVE them but to be honest, I didnโt tell them we had cookies until both boxes were 1/2 gone. Oops. haha
-New ghillie sandals (I may or may not do a little Irish step dancing to make sure theyโre just right). I got a little overzealous tying my last pair from Nordstrom Rack, and broke one of the straps. Iโd already worn them out, so I decided to roll with different brand. These are super soft and comfy, and I like that they match everything. Theyโre super cute with a sundress or my favorite destroyed jean shorts and a tank.
Obsessed with these cactus leggings.
[A super simple dinner one night the Pilot worked late: brown rice, mixed veggies and chicken, with coconut aminos, garlic, ginger, and a drizzle of honey)
These weepy trees that seem to be everywhere. Iโm not sure what theyโre called, and I could probably Google it, but I think theyโre so beautiful.
That pic was taken in front of the Crescent, which is my favorite building in Valdosta. This picture doesnโt do it justice; itโs absolutely breathtaking. It makes me wish the Pilot would marry me again so we could celebrate there. The white columns are massive, and itโs the architecture is definitely unlike anything I saw growing up in AZ.
Love Chrissy Teigen for keeping it real.
Can I copy an 8-year old for my next birthday party?
How to use the rowing machine.
If youโre looking for a workout today, try this barre burner.
Hope you have a wonderful Friday!
Whatโs something youโre loving this week?
xoxo
Gina
I think those trees are live oaks with Spanish moss hanging on them. I used to live in Beaufort SC, while my husband was a Drill Instructor at Parris Island and these trees were everywhere. We had a huge one right in our front yard that blocked all sun from entering our house. Lol
Yes – these are spanish moss! My in-laws live in Beaufort and they really are everywhere you look.
So cool! My parents live on Fripp Island (just outside of Beaufort). SC is really gorgeous with all the Spanish moss!
i’m obsessed with them! they’re everywhere, and so pretty
I’m loving the fact that I’m done with my move. That was last weekend with movers on Monday. I can just relax, peruse Home Goods for new decor (and random needs), and celebrate no.more.boxes.
ahhhh SO PERFECT. that’s an awesome feeling!
Wow that building is gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing the house! Have a great weekend.
<3 hope you have a great weekend, too!
How do you find your childcare/babysitters for your date nights? I recently moved to a new city and I feel like I don’t even know where to start to find someone reliable. Thank you!! ๐
Hi Melissa,
I was in a similar situation- new city where I didn’t know anyone and wanted to have some occasional childcare for date nights or as backup if my daughter couldn’t go to daycare. I signed up for a nanny service and it has been really helpful. I am sure they are all structured differently, but I pay a yearly fee (around $150) and then each time I use it, there is a $15 placement fee and you pay the sitters directly. The benefit is that all the sitters who they provide are CPR certified, have gone through a background check, and have gone through a reference check. Over time (my daughter is now almost 2), I have also met some high school and college kids who live nearby who I will leave her with if we have already put her down. Anyway, sorry this has gotten so long but I think it’s so hard! So I encourage you to look and see if your city has some kind of nanny service (you might also call a high end hotel and see if they can recommend a service) or I have also thought about (but never followed through) on emailing professors of elementary education at local universities and asking them to pass out my contact info to students who might be interested in babysitting. Good luck!
when we were in san diego, i used care.com to find out permanent babysitter. i interviewed a lot of girls while i was pregnant, and while i was scared of using someone that we didn’t have any connections to, i found the perfect fit. i would say to interview, check references, and go with your gut! thankfully here in valdosta we already had a few contacts who were able to help us find awesome sitters. one comes regularly to watch the girls for a few hours while i work, and the other does date nights ๐
high school girls! Start on the NextDoorApp and post in there. We found HS girls when we moved and it’s been a win!
Those trees are gorgeous! Definitely not like anything you find in the AZ. Hope you have a nice weekend.
hope you’re having a great weekend, too!
I’m doing Shaun T week on BOD and DM’ed Shaun T on Snapchat about how awesome the workout was and he REPLIED. I fangirled so hard and took a screenshot. So yeah…that’s my favorite thing to happen this week.
