I Dream of Jeans

Hi friends 🙂 Last time I was over here on the Fashion page, I showed ya my side of our in-process closet and asked for help with organizing my jewelry. My fancy schmancy stuff is in a safe, but wanted an easily accessible place for my everyday stuff. As usual, ya’ll flooded me with amazing ideas and suggestions, so I hit up Target with your ideas on the brain.

The solution:

tree

A jewelry tree!

It was really inexpensive ($29) and after placing my jewelry in the little dish and on the cute branches, I set it on a mirrored candle plate next to a matching vase.

Love how it turned out 🙂

So today, I thought it would be fun to talk about jeans.

I’ve said before that I’m not a shoe girl, but I’m most definitely a jeans and purses girl. Like with anything will invest in jeans and purses that are good quality and will last, while super-saving on the trendy stuff. (My first pair of skinny jeans was a $12 pair from Forever 21 two years ago, but when I realized the trend was indeed here to stay, I invested in a more expensive pair)

The only challenge in my current jeans shopping is that the jeans I will be rocking this fall and winter will probably look something like this:

Wahp wahp.

Hahaha.

So instead, I will live vicariously and dream of the jeans I would buy this season (and probably invest in 2 maternity pairs):

Skinny is still in (in new fabrics, too, like velveteen, light colors, jewel tones and prints)

image J Brand

Bootleg is back (thank goodness. It’s the universally flattering jean cut)

image

My 100% favorite jean ever created: 7 for all Manking A Pocket.

Straight leg is a great option for those who don’t want to ride the skinny jean train

image True Religoin

Slim trouser crops

High-waisted jeans and pants (which are not for short people. I will never wear them)

image TopShop

Wide leg and bell bottoms are also back. This scares me just a little.

image Express

Where’s your favorite place to buy jeans? What style do you like the most? I’ve fallen in love with straight-leg jeans and wear my boyfriend crops at least once a week.

My fave place to buy jeans is Off 5th and I also love the way Express jeans fit.

i finally found cheap jeans that fit great! american eagle is my savior. i can’t tell you how many pairs of 100 plus jeans I have in my closet (because like you i will spend on jeans and purses) but always go back to my a and e jeans-LOVE. so sorry you can’t wear them this season but you will be rockin them very soon gina…. 🙂

I had this one style of Express jeans I wore all through college. My mom knew the size and cut I liked, so if I wanted a new pair or a different color she’d buy them for me and ship them to me at the dorm. That was the best college present. No, 2nd best. Valentines Day she sent chocolate chip cookies. But that was 15 yrs ago…
Now I usually wear Gap jeans. I almost always have a bit of flair, but would like to try a kelly green or grey straight leg.

I love Lucky Jeans. I’m a size 14 with a booty and a small waist. I also have muscular legs and they just seem to work for me.

  5. Shayla @ The Good Life on August 5, 2011 at 7:37 pm

I used to be so afraid to get on the skinny jean trend until I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair from Forever 21 and from then on I was in love. They’re my fav style now and I should make the move like you and buy a more expensive pair.

I would love to know from anyone who of the higher-end designers (Seven, Paige, Hudson) makes a great fitting skinny jean! And preferably a designer who tailors to shapes with booties 😉

    • Fitnessista on August 5, 2011 at 7:46 pm

7s caters to girls with booties- their styles always fit me exactly right.

      • Shayla @ The Good Life on August 8, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Awesome, thanks Gina! I have their classic bootcut which I’ve always loved so I’ll have to give their skinny a shot. Thanks! 🙂

    • Julia on August 5, 2011 at 8:10 pm

I’m skinny with a booty and citizens of humanity fit me best. My favorite skinny style is Ava, which they call a straight leg but fits like a skinny.

      • Shayla @ The Good Life on August 8, 2011 at 3:29 pm

Awesome, thanks ladies, I will definitely try those two brands!! 🙂

      • Irina on August 9, 2011 at 3:56 pm

I just bought that exact jean! They fit unlike any jeans I have ever tried on!! Love at first try-on. Definitely worth it 100%

  6. Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun on August 5, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Love some of those jeans. I love the pairing of high heels with skinny jeans! I love to wear my crops once in a while too 🙂 Although, it’s hard finding just the right pair of jeans. I’m usually sweating by the end of trying on a bunch 😉

  7. mi-an on August 5, 2011 at 7:41 pm

ohhh i’m a shoe and jean kinda girl! although i would LOVE to purchase 7 for mankind … just can’t rite now…i opt for Lucky jeans, love them!. when I was in the UK, i purchased two pairs of jeans there and they have also become my favorite…i think one is Dorothy perkins and the other from this store called nu look (which is like forever 21) here.

  8. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on August 5, 2011 at 7:41 pm

I have a million pairs of jean and they have some from two places: American Eagle and Express. I love them because I can walk right into the store and I know what size I wear and how they will fit me. I can’t get enough from either store! 😀

  9. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on August 5, 2011 at 7:56 pm

I totally agree with you that bootleg jeans are universally flattering!! They are my favorite cut. At only 5’2″ and a half, I need all the help I can get for my stubby legs. 😀

  10. Pam on August 5, 2011 at 8:03 pm

Haha funny you say that about the wide leg/flared jeans – they are my favorite style by far and I am SOOO happy to see some in stores again! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 5, 2011 at 8:04 pm

i’m just bitter that they look totally wrong on me, haha 😉

  11. Lauren on August 5, 2011 at 8:04 pm

old navy is my favorite place to buy jeans, because: a) i’m ridiculously short and they seem to be one of the few stores who carries jeans short enough for my 27 inch inseam, b) i’m also curvy and they fit my hips well, and c) they’re very reasonable. i went through a period where i was obsessed with premium denim, but it’s too much of a pain to hem and let’s face it, most expensive denim is cut toooo narrow for those with wide hips and junk in the trunk. their flirt skinny jeans are my fav, but of course they went on sale and disappeared. 🙁

  12. shelly on August 5, 2011 at 8:10 pm

I love the gap skinny and legging jeans. Their 1969 line of jeans is really flattering on me!

  13. Nicole on August 5, 2011 at 8:12 pm

That jewelry set up turned out totally cute!! With the round hips of mine and slightly thunderous thighs, the flare, bootleg and bell-ish bottom type of jeans work best for me. The sort of even out the look 🙂 I pretty much will buy jeans wherever I find a pair that fit right. I have that ongoing problem with jeans that fit my thighs being way too large in the waist or the other way around…oh, jeans…

  14. Cait @ Cait hates Cake on August 5, 2011 at 8:15 pm

I just found a pair of black skinny jeans at Marshalls for ridiculously cheap! Gap long and lean fit me pretty well.

  15. Sarah on August 5, 2011 at 8:19 pm

Just make sure when you buy expensive maternity jeans that they have the “secret fit” belly. It is awesome and will get you through a whole pregnancy. I bought a pair of citizens with only half a panel and it killed me by the end of my pregnancy…you live and learn!

  16. liz on August 5, 2011 at 8:19 pm

Joes makes a great cut called “Honey” that is made for those of us with some, um, “honey” in the back. Definitely check them out. I ALWAYS get compliments when I wear them, and I have both skinny jeans and straight leg (in a couple of different washes).

  17. Cindy Wang on August 5, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Those maternity jeans have such a big chunky panel. Check out xpectingmaternity.com, they have JBrand maternity jeans with just a panel on the side. So comfy and works with your growing belly 🙂

  18. Niki on August 5, 2011 at 8:36 pm

I love (and miss) my Aeropostale jeans. I’m working back to fitting in them. They used to fit me PERFECTLY. I also like my Ana skinny jeans and look forward to wearing them this fall! And my favorite pair ever are Silver jeans I got in high school (over 10 years ago…). They are tattered to bits, but I LOVE them. I’m banned from leaving the house in them.

I agree with yoga pants too. I LOVE mine.

Has anyone tried the Pajama Jean? (not my thing, but I’m curious if anyone actually bought them…)

    • Lindsay @ The Gluten-Free Baker on August 5, 2011 at 11:54 pm

OMG I totally had silver jeans in high school – I forgot about them but I loved them! I’ve never worn pajama jeans, but I started calling my 7 for all mankind leggings pajama jeans because well, that’s what they feel like… until I saw the commercial and realized they were actually a real thing hahaha.

  19. erin on August 5, 2011 at 8:36 pm

I need help. I love the cut of my Gap (long and lean) and Old Navy (sweetheart) jeans, and I love how they fit – right after they’re washed. I can’t wear them more than once or twice without them stretching way way wayyyy too big, and then I have to wash and dry them again to shrink them down. It’s SO FRUSTRATING, not to mention bad for my jeans to wash them all the time. So my question: what are the best straight leg jeans, that are high-quality and won’t stretch out all the time, that are less than $100? Do those even exist?

    • Lindsay @ The Gluten-Free Baker on August 5, 2011 at 11:58 pm

I used to work at the Gap and we used to tell people to buy them tight because of that exact issue – so maybe try buying a size smaller than your normal size and see if it helps! All of my Gap jeans were almost uncomfortably tight when I bought them, but after one wear they would stretch out to where I wanted them to be and then would be fine!

      • Erin on August 8, 2011 at 10:57 am

I did go a size down, per the recommendation of the store associate, but they’re still huge. Maybe I need to go two sizes down next time…? Thanks for the help 🙂

Wide legs just take me back to those aweful 6th grade memories of JNCO jeans with baggy t-shirts. Whyyyyyy?

    • Brittany on August 5, 2011 at 8:58 pm

LOL – I hear you on this! I told my husband the other day that wide leg jeans were making a comeback. His reply: “Shoulda saved those JNCO’s you wore in middle school.” Nastiest look ever!

      • Fitnessista on August 5, 2011 at 11:11 pm

hahaha! i had two pairs of jncos… and i thought i was the coolest thing ever with my vans sneakers and graphic tees. omg.

  21. Melanie T on August 5, 2011 at 8:58 pm

I agree with the commenters who gave shoutouts to Lucky!! I’m late to the party, but I bought my first Luckys last week and they are AWESOME – plus, I found an outlet (in PA, near Philly, don’t know if there are any others), so I got 2 pairs for under $75!! Not bad at ALL for “nice” jeans. I’m a size 0-2, but I’ve got really muscular thighs & a bootay – it’s hard to find jeans that manage to fit my waist + thighs + butt, and this year I basically just resigned myself to living in (admittedly awesome) Express jeggings. But Lucky managed to do the trick – it’s a miracle!!

  22. Brittany on August 5, 2011 at 9:05 pm

I like your sensible approach to jeans shopping, Gina. My favorite places to buy jeans are Off 5th, Nordstrom Rack, and (especially) Gap! I usually end up being disappointed in my designer jean purchases because they seem to wear out faster than my $60 Gap ones, which I think fit better anyway. My favorite jeans are Gap ‘Always Skinny’ and 7 ‘Lexie’ Boocut (the petite cut style). The jeans I WISH I wore are Hudson’s – they are so cute – but they just don’t work well with this donk of mine.

  23. Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me on August 5, 2011 at 9:11 pm

I love straight leg jeans but I’m also a fan of bootcut!

  24. Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs on August 5, 2011 at 9:16 pm

I’m all about AG Stevie and 7 jeans. It’s totally worth the investment. When I want something a little more inexpensive or now since I don’t want to invest in jeans till I get to my goal weight, I like Old Navy ones a lot! I am always surprised by them. When my sister was pregnant she had a band like the one that is attached to maternity pants, but you slipped it on over the pants you already wear. She wore a lot of her pants she already had for most of her pregnancy, I don’t think she bought any maternity pants.

  25. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on August 5, 2011 at 9:21 pm

I love Express jeans 🙂 I just got these “barely boot cut” jeans and they are PERFECT for me!

    • Fitnessista on August 5, 2011 at 11:09 pm

i used to have two pairs of those, and LOVED them

  26. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on August 5, 2011 at 9:32 pm

I sound like a 14 year old when I say this, but my favourite pair of jeans are a skinny petite pair from Aeropostale. They fit my 5 foot tall frame like a dream! I’m hoping to find some coloured skinnies for the fall. I would love a red or maroon pair!

  27. Katherine on August 5, 2011 at 9:38 pm

When you buy maternity jeans I’d recommend getting some that don’t go way over the belly because they will be your friend post baby. I am 3.5 weeks postpartum and loving that I have these maternity jeans to wear on the rare occasion that I go out of the house! One of my girlfriend’s said I’ll love having them for the next year!

  28. Katherine on August 5, 2011 at 9:38 pm

Also – I can’t wait to get the go ahead to exercise and work my way back to fitting into my skinny jeans!

  29. Rebecca on August 5, 2011 at 9:41 pm

I love the jewelry tree idea. I’ve been thinking of getting a tree myself to hang necklaces on. For jeans I stick with short cuts in straight jeans and boot cut. I’m not a fan of the flare because since I’m short they just look awkward (I already have to hem them up). I hear you on high waisted jeans not being good on short people, oh the limitations of being short.

  30. Jess on August 5, 2011 at 9:54 pm

Despite being a little too old for Delias, I still buy my skinny jeans from them online because I can get the 30″ inseam and the price is very, very right. They also seem to be the magic fit. I totally have them in 4 different washes. I”m glad that bootlegs are back in, though. There are so many more different types of shoes you can wear with them—at least I feel that way! They really are universally flattering. I’m also hoping to score a pair of trouser-cut jeans (or denim trousers) for days I need to look a little more polished.

  31. Hillary on August 5, 2011 at 10:23 pm

I need a jewelery tree ASAP! My necklaces are a hot mess right now.

Love Gap’s curvy bootcut. They are the best fitting jeans I’ve ever worn.

My body and jeans have not gotten along…ever!

I do like Hudson. Neimans or Nordstroms to find them.

Over the years I have worn Paige, Citizens, Seven, Rock and Republic, Express, Gap, F21 brand, Baby Phat, and tons others.

I have really long legs, a long rise, and although everyone thinks jeans are made for tall people, I am a tall person who has trouble finding a good fit!

When I was pregnant, I lived in drawstring Be Present brand yoga/streetwear pants. I STILL live in them 🙂

  36. Madeline (Food Fitness & Family) on August 5, 2011 at 10:50 pm

    In regards to maternity jeans….

I tend to like more expensive jeans for my regular jeans but couldn’t quite justify spending too much $$ on maternity ones.

I scored at Motherhood with a pair of skinny jeans for $30. They are SUPER flattering and look more like a nice tailored designer jean then they do fugly maternity jean.

LOVE the jewelry tree. I used one from Urban Outfitters for my necklaces and LOVE it.

good to know- i’ll take a look there!

      • Laura J. on August 6, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Agreed! I found a great pair of maternity jeans at Motherhood that I wore to death when I was pregnant. I honestly was sad when I could wear them anymore, b/c the fit was so flattering haha

  37. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on August 5, 2011 at 10:53 pm

I consider myself somewhat “tall” or at least not short and I would never be able to pull off those high waisted jeans! I think that style is for a very select few! Love, love, love 7 for all mankind 🙂

  38. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on August 5, 2011 at 11:57 pm

Jeans are so great for making you look amazing, if they are the right cut and style for you. I love the way a really good pair for jeans can make me feel like the sexiest woman alive. I am sorry for you and your missing jeans! BTW, whats up with those super high black patent leather heals on the preggo jean model? Kinda, inappropriate, no?

I really love the look of the high waisted jeans, but like you, I don’t think I’d put my short legs into those. However, i love my pair of wide leg jeans…don’t be scared…they’ll totally make you feel like a diva!

  41. Lindsay Loves Veggies on August 6, 2011 at 2:15 am

I have been designer jeans obsessed since I started college, and I have way too many pairs. I’m talking 7’s with a hole in the knee from when I fell down drunk in them 4 years ago, light Citizens bootcuts, dark Citizens boot cuts, True Religion bootcuts, True Religion jeggings (my all time favorite!), and Hudson bootcuts. Of course, the random cheap jeans are in there too, like my dark Billabong skinnies that I got at Ross. They’re a tad too small and don’t stretch, so they don’t do a very good job of staying on my ass, but for $15, it was totally worth it to have an extra pair of dark skinnies. Wow, that’s a long comment. Yeah, I definitely think I have a problem with jeans! 😉

  42. Elisabeth on August 6, 2011 at 7:40 am

Joe’s Jeans Honey (booty fit). The only jeans I can buy off the rack without sizing up and then having them tailored. For some reason high end jeans companies don’t seem to like girls with big butts. My next favorite is Hudson, but those definitely require sizing up and tailoring.

  43. Monica on August 6, 2011 at 9:01 am

  44. britt on August 6, 2011 at 9:03 am

i highly recommend the sevens maternity jeans. they were one of the only pieces of maternity clothing i purchased and they were well worth the splurge. so so flattering!!

  45. jeanine on August 6, 2011 at 11:54 am

It’s funny cause it makes me slightly crazy when people call bootleg jeans (flares?) “universally flattering” since they make me look sooooooo bad. I’m all for wide legs, not super wide/bell bottoms but trousery. It’s the only kind I really feel is flattering for me. It was like I won the lottery when I found a pair of wide leg jeans at The Limited last week since I have felt like I’ve been suffering in straight legged jeans for a year now.

    Good luck in your search!

  46. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on August 6, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I’m such a jeans and t-shirt girl. I love my Lucky boot cut jeans, and I got my first pair of skinny jeans from H & M in Copenhagen years ago, which I still wear often.

  47. Maddy on August 6, 2011 at 8:31 pm

Bootleg style is the only type I will wear! J. Crew is my favorite place because I’m tall and they make flattering bootleg jeans for their tall line of clothing. I have hips and what I like to think of as a J.Lo or Kim K. tush so skinny style is not flattering on me. Even at my absolute thinest they don’t look right on me. Old Navy is OK too, but they seem to stretch out and the quality isn’t quite as good as J Crew. I got those as transition jeans since the price is great and the look was fine.

  48. Faith @ For the Health of It on August 6, 2011 at 9:13 pm

I’m a Citizens of Humanity girl, or Paige Premium. Denim is one of the things I dont mind splurging on!

  49. Laura J. on August 6, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I love J.Crew jeans– I have so many different styles from them and each pair fits me like it was made for me, Lurve. I have a couple pairs from Express that are great too 🙂

I like citizens jeans because they fit my butt. I’ve heard from a few friends that express jeans are good too. Maybe I’ll try a pair soon.
