Indian Food Monday

Hi guys! Happy Tuesday! I’m so happy ya’ll liked the perfect protein pancake recipe 🙂 Please let me know what you think if you try it!

I just had some

Banana Split Perfect Protein Pancakes 😀

pancake (2)

While the first side was cooking, I added vegan chocolate chips and sliced strawberries

pancake

and served them with sliced banana, more strawberries and a tablespoon of maple syrup. Pancake perfection 🙂

Last night, after teaching 3 classes (spin off the bike, Zumba and a 15-minute abs class), Jeni, Megan (not the Megan ya’ll used to know, a different Megan) and I went to Indian for dinner. Usually we do Indian Food Wednesday (wahoo!) but since Cinco de Mayo is Wednesday, I figured I’d be eating some kind of Mexican food…and some kind of margarita 😉

Last time the pilot and I had Indian, we vowed to never go back. Jeni had it last weekend and said it was much better, so I decided to give it another chance 🙂

It. was. glorious.

Pappadum + Dippers

pappadum

Buffet!

indian

I didn’t want to risk ordering something and not liking it –the baigan bhartha was GREASY goo last time- and the buffet looked awesome, so I rolled with it. A lovely cabbage dish, dal bukara (lurve) and a chickpea dish + 4 pieces of roti.

I was a happy kid 😀

This morning, Ashley and I did our Insanity workout (amazing) and I’m off to get started on the day’s to-do’s.

A WEEK FROM NOW, I’LL BE IN THE BAHAMAS!!! 😀 I’ve never been anywhere tropical- have you?? Any tips?

Sandals-Emerald-Bay-1016

xoxo,

Gina

Spin playlist: Here’s the playlist I used for spin last night 🙂 A lot of old favorites on here, but a great mix of climbs, jumps, tempo and sprints.

You are going to have a great time in the Bahsmas! How could you not? I have never been there but anywhere tropical would be bueno, right?

  6. Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin on May 4, 2010 at 10:23 am

Mmmm I love pancakes. I had them yesterday and today for breakfast.. iced banana pancakes today! sooo good.

I just was in Puerto Rico in early march… Bring lots of sun screen. Little things like that are SO expensive in the islands, so anything toiletry wise you can think of that you might need, buy while you’re home! Also, don’t overpack. it was my first trip in a long time to somewhere warm and i brought way too much stuff. It was annoying to carry around my luggage!

  7. kelsey@snackingsquirrel.com on May 4, 2010 at 10:24 am

u need to make ur own protein pancake mix. id seriously buy it! <3

Love all the Indian food – I had Indian Food Monday as well. 😀

  9. Therese on May 4, 2010 at 10:32 am

I went on my first tropical vacation just over a year ago and man! was it ever needed! My only tip is to drink loads of water (just not tap). My friend and I were out in the sun for so long and there’s sooooo much alcohol around that water is essential. Other than that, do whatever the heck you like, that’s what tropical vacations are for! 😉

  10. Heather (Heather's Dish) on May 4, 2010 at 10:35 am

oh girl, i don’t know if i could be any more jealous right now! we were in the Caribbean last year around this time, and I would say a HUGE thing would be sunscreen sunscreen SUNSCREEN, bug spray, and tons of water. OK, fine, and rum 😉

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 10:48 am

      hahahah. noted 😀 for sure.

  11. Paige (Running Around Normal) on May 4, 2010 at 10:39 am

Wow I’m so jealous! My BFF will be in the Bahamas next week too. Double jealous:) But very happy for you!

  12. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on May 4, 2010 at 10:40 am

Tropical vacations are awesome! Enjoy the crystal-clear warm water. It’s the only way I’ll go swimming. Beats the cold New England stuff I’m used to! Oh, and you MUST have a pina colada. They’re unlike the gross ones we have stateside.

  13. maria on May 4, 2010 at 10:41 am

sunscreen and lots of bikinis! you will love it! you will be so relaxed after a few days…the islands do that to you! enjoy! xox
ps: we want lots of pictures!

It is too early for Indian food for me. have you ever had Indian-inspired breakfasts?

  15. BethT on May 4, 2010 at 10:47 am

This time last year I was in Hawaii. Sigh. Jealous you’re going somewhere….just enjoy yourself!

  16. Becs in Britain on May 4, 2010 at 10:54 am

Hey hun, thanks for making me smile – your posts always brighten my day 🙂 Bahamas look awesome – I’m so jealous!
I just wanted to tap you for some fitness advice – Do you have any advice on interval training on the treadmill or incorporating PHA weights training into a workout? I’m trying to push myself that little bit harder in the run-up to summer. Wish we had Insanity workout over here in the UK – I checked out the website and it looks amazing!!! x

  17. Emily N on May 4, 2010 at 10:58 am

Have SO much fun in the Bahamas! I’ve never been, but I imagine it smells like coconuts and paradise:)
My recommendation to you is Colorescience SPF powder. I brought it with me to Jamaica and it was so much easier to re-touch over my regular liquid sunscreen. I could apply it after ordering a drink or lunch at the bar without a mirror. Definitely recommend.
    Here’s the link: http://www.dermstore.com/product_Sunforgettable+Orb+-+Small_14385.htm
Have fun and enjoy the fresh fruit and veggies.

You are going to have an amazing time in the Bahamas!!! Wish I could go!! THanks for sharing your spin playlist with us!

  21. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on May 4, 2010 at 11:46 am

I love Sweet Disposition!! I recently put it on one of my spin playlists (which I haven’t played for my class yet, but it’s coming up!) I’m so jealous you’re going to the Bahamas! I went to the Dominican in February, and I was warned about the fruit and veggies because the tap water isn’t clean. A lot of my friends ate everything else (as in, not fruit or veg) and got really sick at our resort, but that was literally all I ate (as well as lots of fish, chicken, and hard boiled eggs) and I was golden the whole time!! So my advice is to be careful with the food/water… or just drink margaritas the whole time! 😉

  22. manda on May 4, 2010 at 11:50 am

maybe i missed this, but what is “spin off the bike”?

you’re gonna have a great vaca away on a beach!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 12:09 pm

i’m teaching spin off the bike and just yelling since i dont want to overdo it w zumba and insanity 🙂

  24. Jill on May 4, 2010 at 12:04 pm

Gina, I used to live in the Caribbean and my number one bit of advice for enjoying your tropical vacation is to NOT GET TOO MUCH SUN! Wear powerful sunscreen and be careful. I saw soooooo many people’s hard earned vacation days and dollars go to waste when they were unable to even move due to getting to much sun.

    Have a blast!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 12:24 pm

good to know- i was actually scoping out hats today and plan to spend a lot of time under the umbrella 🙂

  25. Stephanie on May 4, 2010 at 12:05 pm

I’ve been to the Bahamas and many cities along the Mexican coast… have so much fun, it’s glorious there and the food is amazingggggg!

  26. Danielle (Coffee Run) on May 4, 2010 at 12:09 pm

That’s exciting about the Bahamas! idk if this tip is useful to you…but mine would be to put suncreen EVERYwhere
I went to Puerto Rico and burnt my eyelids b/c I didn’t think to put sunscreen there lol

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 12:25 pm

      eyelids?! wow, good to know!

  27. Alycia @ FitnFresh on May 4, 2010 at 12:15 pm

okay question – how did you get so into indian food? i don’t know a single thing about it, but it looks so good in all your posts!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 12:25 pm

i just tried it once two years ago and fell in love. i love big flavors and SPICY… so indian food was right up my alley 🙂

  28. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on May 4, 2010 at 12:16 pm

Lucky! You’re going to have a blast!

I’ve been to Mexico a few times and Cuba, but it’s been about 3 years since I last went. I think I’m planning a vacation for next year though! 😀

  29. Charlsie on May 4, 2010 at 12:24 pm

I think the pancakes with be made this Saturday morning… They look freaking delicious.

  30. RhodeyGirl on May 4, 2010 at 12:24 pm

Bring a good book and a fun sun hat! I am sure you already do this, but in case you don’t… those are my tips!

  31. Catherine on May 4, 2010 at 12:27 pm

I say a suitcase full of bathing suits and a smile is all yah need! Oh yeah, and some seriously strong sun lotion.

  32. Claire on May 4, 2010 at 12:31 pm

I made the pancakes this morning, but added a little bit more spice and some blueberries to the mix. Definitely will be making them again =]
When I listen to music, I imagine what I could be doing on the spin bike to it. Spin instructor in training maybe?
Have a great vacation, we went to the Caribbean on a cruise in February, and I’d highly recommend snorkeling. Just put lots of sunscreen on your bottom half or it’ll hurt to sit after!

  33. Brittany on May 4, 2010 at 12:33 pm

Everyone who has mentioned suncreen isn’t kidding. The sun is super intense in the tropics. I’d reapply at least every 1-2 hours, especially if you’re getting in the water. Other than that, I’d bring along a good book, magazines, and lots of summer dresses.

    Have fun lady!

  34. Catherine on May 4, 2010 at 12:48 pm

    Gina –

I am DYING to know what you think of Insanity. By the looks of your posts, it seems like you really like it. I can’t wait to hear the final results of your BMI. I am really thinking about ordering it myself, but I live on the 4th floor in an apartment and am afraid that my downstairs neighbors will hate me for jumping around. Haha. However, if it is worth it, they’ll have to deal!

Please tell me (us) – Can you see a difference in your body at this stage of the Insanity program? How is it compared with other workout programs that you’ve tried/still continue to do?

Thanks so much for your blog – I’ve been reading it religiously for almost a year now!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 1:06 pm

      hey girl,
here’s my week 1 review of insanity http://fitnessista.com/2010/04/insanity-workout-re-cap-week-1/
i’ll be posting a week 4 re-cap as well. from what i can tell, i already feel leaner and my endurance has gone through the roof. it’s amazing to see how you progress through the program- there’s definitely a LOT of jumping though. i love it and will continue to do it when it’s over, in addition to weights and yoga

  35. Jenna on May 4, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Lucky lady! I would love to go to the Bahama’s. We are thinking it as a possibilty for next year.

Definitely make sure you get sunscreen on every inch of your body. I was just down in Mexico and missed parts of my hands, feet and knee caps. I didn’t even know you could burn those areas, but boy did it hurt!

  36. Effie on May 4, 2010 at 1:05 pm

I have been reading your blog for a while but I’ve never commented before. I just wanted to say that I think you are such a great inspiration and your recipes always look so delicious! I can’t wait to get home for the summer and start trying them out; especially these protein pancakes, they look absolutely divine!!! I hope you have a great time in the Bahamas!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 1:07 pm

hey effie! thanks so much for reading my little blog and for saying hi 🙂

  37. Shayna on May 4, 2010 at 1:06 pm

I live in Hawaii and I can let ya know, use the SPF. Use it every five seconds. And share liberally with others. I’m not abnormally pale or anything 🙂 and my husband is Mexican and he burns here too! So, my advice is definitely use it or you’ll be a painful little lobster your whole trip!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 1:07 pm

hahah thank you, i definitely dont want to be a painful lobster 🙂

  38. Sarah on May 4, 2010 at 1:08 pm

I went on the cruise through the Caribbean, you need lots and lots of SPF! I busted out my 80SPF, lathering up every couple of hours and I still burned. Water is also tres important so you don’t get dehydrated!

But mostly have fun and enjoy some fruity drinks with little umbrellas. Walking on the beach is some fantastic exercise too 🙂

    HAVE FUN!!

  39. Diana on May 4, 2010 at 1:11 pm

You’re going to love the Bahamas! My favorite part is the crystal clear water – you can see your toes! Since everyone else has also given you sunscreen advice… make sure to put sunscreen in the part of your hair. A burn scalp is painful! I usually just wear a big floppy straw hat the whole time. Jcrew has some really cute hats 🙂 Enjoy!

  40. Kalli@fitandfortysomething on May 4, 2010 at 1:14 pm

    lucky you! a tropical vacation!

  41. ida on May 4, 2010 at 1:16 pm

a big floppy hat is a must! you’re going to have a blast.

  42. Emily on May 4, 2010 at 1:19 pm

Thanks for sharing your playlist, I love getting new ideas! Enjoy the Bahamas too! I’ve been to Cancun/Playa del Carmen and around that area which was gorgeous. My only tip I can think of is that the water was actually warmer than sitting on the beach, so get in and enjoy. I’ll be looking forward to seeing some photos and reading your recap!

Q: Are you taking your vitamix on this trip too? Just curious 😉

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 1:45 pm

heck yeah i’m taking the vitamix 🙂

  43. LS on May 4, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Wanted to tell you I finally bought some millet bread and I am IN LOVE. My usual sandwich for lunch felt so much more like a real meal. Yum. THANK YOU for introducing me.

Have a great time on your trip. Tropical vacations are my favorite. I think you have gotten some really good advice, nothing else I can think of to add!!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 2:41 pm

YES! millet bread is the best.. hands down 🙂

  44. Lindsey on May 4, 2010 at 2:16 pm

oooo! i’m off to st. lucia on friday (and it can’t com soon enough, because the snow will not quit up here in wyoming!). love all of the advice. wish i’d seen it last year before i went to thailand, because i burnt up and then went on the most awesome elephant ride, but i’ll never forget how much it hurt my poor lobster butt 😉

  45. ashley on May 4, 2010 at 2:30 pm

wear sunscreen and make sure to put it on your feet!! burnt feet and swollen ankles are no good for business, yo.

  46. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on May 4, 2010 at 2:57 pm

I have been so fortunate to have been on several tropical vacations. My tip would be to always have a drink in your hand, a good book, and a great spot by the pool. 🙂

      xoxo

  48. LisaG on May 4, 2010 at 3:49 pm

You will love the tropics. It’s a lot like Florida but the sun is more intense. You are already naturally tan but, still I probably wouldn’t be out there from 11-2 or so especially if not under shade. Wear a big floppy hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, umbrella etc. Also, watch out for sharks when snorkling. Just sayin. Don’t let the Pilot burn b/c it will ruin your trip. I’ve been to mexico several times, a few cruises, the keys, bahamas, private islands.Love them all.

  49. Denise on May 4, 2010 at 3:51 pm

I just got back from a cruise that went to Key West and Cozumel, also been to St. Lucia before. Would love to go to the Bahamas! Enjoy!!!

My tip is to enjoy the alcoholic beverages 🙂
