Little Nuggets

Hey everyone! HOLLER to all of the Sun Warriors in the house ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you so much for supporting the awesome Sun Warrior promo– itโ€™s my absolute fave, and Iโ€™ve been around the protein block ๐Ÿ˜‰ The deal is good until Wednesday.

This morning, I ran some errands and wrapped up a project that Iโ€™ve been working on for errr, 6 months. Fingers crossed that something good happensโ€ฆ. <3

I munched this Larabar before heading to the gym:

larabar

called some clients and took care of paperwork,

and then had to cut my weights sesh short because I was HANGRY. When each dumbbell looks like a slice of millet bread, itโ€™s time for food ๐Ÿ˜‰ The gym will always be there and I can go back if I want to laterโ€ฆ or just take a day off.

Lunch was legendary:

lunch

A beastly salad with greens, onion, grape tomatoes, beet, raw goat cheddar, basil, Garlic Gold vinaigrette and oregano

beast

Egg white puff with spicy Dijon and paprika

puff

+ the millet bread I had been fantasizing about ๐Ÿ˜‰

millet

I took out these little nuggets:

bell

vies

Checked the mail and was greeted by THESE little nuggets:

garlic gold

The Garlic Gold fairy must have known my stash was dwindling- I eat that stuff like itโ€™s candy ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just munched a raw cacao cayenne truffle for an afternoon pick-me-up:

truffle

And am debating meeting Jeni and Lauren for pedicures. I get massages and facials like itโ€™s nobodyโ€™s biznass, but tend to do my own toenails because:

1) Last time I got a pedicure, I was gashed in the toe by the little toe-scraper thing

2) I am a germiphobe

3) I always, ALWAYS mess my toes up after pedicures doing cardio

We shall seeโ€ฆ.

Iโ€™m about to head back to work for the evening and making snobby joes for dinner <3

Enjoy the rest of your day!

G$

Something to think: โ€œThe gym will always be there.โ€ After my weight loss journey, when I wanted so badly to be "perfect", I couldnโ€™t help but feel a twinge of guilt when I missed a workout or cut a sesh short. I was so afraid of derailing my progress that I thought every workout was critical. So not the case. Since then Iโ€™ve realized that quality is so much more important than quantity. If youโ€™re feeling sick, exhausted, a hungry monkey, or just not โ€œwith itโ€, skip out. Your next sesh will be a thousand times better and really, in the grand scheme of things, it wonโ€™t mean no thang.

Peanut butter and jelly = Best Larabar! <3

The gym WILL definitely be there! I did work out sick, exhausted, etc … during my weight loss journey too, and it's SO. NOT. WORTH. IT.!

Gym should be fun, not an obligation!

  2. barbara on June 28, 2010 at 3:56 pm

How did you know I needed to read this today? Was just contemplating going back to finish my sesh even though I’m not 100%. Guilt is ugly!

Thank you Gina …for being you.

I’m clicking all the links in this post. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I want to try sun warrior badly, but I’ve been buying a lot of internet food lately. =/

YOUR PUPS ARE SO CUTE ! (do I say that every time?) I love pups on blogs… ๐Ÿ™‚

I got over feeling guilt for taking it easy / rest day a while ago… In college I was pretty insane: teaching a step class at noon, another cardio or run for me later, and teaching a lifting class to special ed… 5 days a week.

I have calmed WAY down. I LOVE the energy of a fabulous workout, but if I’m not feeling it (or if I’m starving!) I’m okay with that too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Jenny on June 28, 2010 at 4:04 pm

Your something to think about totally applies to me today, I’m tired and thought I could work out by I had to call it quits early.

  9. Carrie on June 28, 2010 at 4:19 pm

My problem is skipping too many times!

By the way, where do you get your xanthan gum? Whole Foods?

    • Fitnessista on June 28, 2010 at 4:24 pm

i got the xanthan gum at publix in the organic aisle by the baking stuff. whole foods has it, too ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Carrie on June 29, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Thanks! I’ve looked at my local grocery store which has a good baking section and organics section but alas! I’ll check my Whole Foods. Need protein ice cream.

Thank you for your “Something to think about” today. It was a good reminder for me ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been a little crazy about making sure I go to the gym (blame it on summer and the itsy bitsy clothes ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) everyday. I woke up today feeling guilty that I wasn’t able to make it to the gym at all this weekend due to work. Thanks for the reminder that missing a few days won’t derail my weight loss efforts! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Lindsey @ Foodie on the Rocks on June 28, 2010 at 4:32 pm

Gahhh, I want to try cacao nibs sooo bad (I think I spy them in those truffles). Any chance they might be making their way into your OpenSky Shop?? I can’t get them in my teeny Wyoming town…

  13. Madison on June 28, 2010 at 4:33 pm

Gina: I have an Indian food question that I hope you can help me answer. I see that you eat Indian food often, in particular, Chana Masala, do you know if that is a vegan dish? I don’t normally cook Indian food at home and I ate some today and forgot to ask the server if it had dairy in it.

    • Fitnessista on June 28, 2010 at 4:38 pm

yes, channa masala is a vegan dish ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on June 28, 2010 at 4:40 pm

I rarely get pedicures, either! I actually got GASHED during a pedicure on the day before my wedding!! Ahhh! Thank goodness my toes weren’t the focus of the day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I definitely prefer doing my own nails, and saving my money for massages and facials!

Oh, and I tried Garlic Gold for the first time the other day– it’s SOOO good! I am doomed to have garlic breath forever now…

    • Fitnessista on June 28, 2010 at 4:48 pm

me too, girl. thank goodness for mint leaves and gum ๐Ÿ˜‰

    HEY BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I would like ALL of those truffles! haha!! I need to find the garlic gold stuff- ive seen it EVERYWHERE. Im glad my boy likes garlic too.

Umm last time I got a pedicure- the dude almost chopped my baby toe of, TRUE STORY. it was bleeding SO much! Now im a little creeped out by pedicures..and tiny asain dudes that do them..

  18. Allison @ Food For Healing on June 28, 2010 at 5:38 pm

and, it’s been awhile since I have a pedicure. I just make my daughters paint my toenails : )

  21. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on June 28, 2010 at 6:17 pm

  23. Brynne on June 28, 2010 at 6:37 pm

  24. Val on June 28, 2010 at 7:01 pm

You should check out http://www.kitchenstewardship.com. She has an ebook call healthy snacks on the go. There is a larabar type recipe in there. Haven’t tried it yet but it looks yummy

mmm cayanne truffles?!?!? sounds too good to be true! i cant wait to make your crepes! ๐Ÿ™‚

I NEED to get some goat chedder!!! Whole foods??

  26. Julie @pickley pear on June 28, 2010 at 7:10 pm

I totally agree, the gym will be there later. Now that I’m Addicted to Exercise TV ON Demand I love the short workouts, especially yoga, just to get the blood flowing. I bought the sun warrior can’t wait to try it!!

  27. Krystin on June 28, 2010 at 7:55 pm

Germiphobes, unite!! Those whirlpool tub things + tools they use kind of gross me out–the torture tool that slicks off your skin makes me twitch with every stroke haha.. I hear that going to a spa with a basin (which is cleaned regularly) is a MUCH healthier option for your feetsies ๐Ÿ™‚ then again, it’s probably a pricier option too lol.. therefore, at home pedis are my go-to plan too!

Also, wish I would have waited about 3 days longer to buy my Sun Warrior from Amazon buuut I may just have to bite the bullet and go ahead and purchase from OpenSky too.. I mean, what girl can refuse a sale? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love the bloggy, Gina! Thanks for all you do, you’re such an encouragement to me to treat my body healthy and find fun workout options! <3

Thanks for you “something to think about” blurb. I’m feeling guilty about skipping my workout tonight, but it would have been rushed anyway and my mind would be elsewhere. I’ll just get in a great workout tomorrow and not let today set me back.

I’m also on the hunt for those pb&j larabars. Those little suckers are hiding from me, but I’ll find them… believe me, I’ll find them ๐Ÿ™‚

Not a reality I actually want as it turns out! Now guilt/shame/should haves are no longer a part of my view on fitness

oo i need to get on this sun warrior protein promo! thanks!

the pb&j flavor of larabar is my favorite!!! (even though -here’s a confession – ive never had a pb&j sandwich in my life!)

also, chocolate & cayenne is the best combo!!! cafe gratitude makes this really amazing chocolate cayenne truffle as well… i might need to try making my own!

ive only gotten a mani/pedi twice in my life (for prom) and i also had a problem with ruining it immediately after… haha. so now i just paint my own nails!

Truffle look DELISH!!!!! I love the cacao and cayenne, I make raw Almond Butter cacao cookies with cayenne…so yummy!

My hubbys fav is PB&J…he calls them “Laredo Bars” I’ve stopped correcting him at this point in time.

    The lil’ nuggets are adorablessss.

  37. Shanna @ Shanna Like Banana on June 28, 2010 at 9:36 pm

Gina, I totally feel you on wanting to feel perfect. Pefect is an untouchable or something that we create in our minds that perhaps we purposely creat to NOT obtain. Some ideal so that we may always strive for something more. I will convince myself that if I can stay below 112lbs (I’m 5’4.5″ btw) that I will be happy because that’s a ‘perfect weight’ in my demented mind. THEN i realize how much joy I get from sharing meals with my loved ones that the few extra pounds are worth it because I am healthy and my body can do amazing things. Yes I admit I’d love to see the scale be lower, but every day I tell myself that I am fit and doing what my body is meant to do and am loving life! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  38. fittingbackin on June 28, 2010 at 9:49 pm

“it won’t mean no thing!” you crack me up. And I LOVE that thing to think about – I can be hard on myself when I miss a workout so I REALLY like your thinking and hope to adopt it myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. hemp jogger on June 28, 2010 at 9:53 pm

Great timing on the extra tidbit today…I really needed to read that! Life happens, and I need to realze that sometimes. Its not terrible, but consistent reminders that ‘the gym will still be there tomorrow’ kinda thing never, ever hurts to reinforce that into my head. I tell my sis that all the time but not me. Rest is good!

  40. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on June 28, 2010 at 11:12 pm

I used to feel really guilty about skipping the gym. If I feel super guilty I just clean up my eats a bit and I feel fine.

  41. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on June 28, 2010 at 11:43 pm

Just gettin’ caught up on all your posts…
The truffles. I’ll take a couple dozen ๐Ÿ™‚
    The flowers…so nice!
The Sun W deal…SCORE! Nice girl! If I hadnt *just* ordered some last week, I would be all over that but ya know. I dont go thru it super fast b/c I cant hack the protein powders too well but I wish I could just to get that deal ๐Ÿ™‚

The pedicure thing..oh from doing sun salutations AND running and tennis shoes of any kind..my pedi’s dont last. Not to mention there can be a major skeeve factor. They dont fully clean out those foot bath’s except once a week. Not just the foot basin, but actually really getting in the motor and stuff. HEllo someone else’s toenail sludge? Not so much ๐Ÿ™‚

    xoxo

  42. Lorin on June 28, 2010 at 11:46 pm

Since I was in New York for last week I didn’t excerise (besides walking around) and before the trip I would run sometimes. I came back and went running on Saturday and the next day my shins hurt a bit, I didn’t run that far (2.5 miles). I am a very competitive person and I push myself when I run, do you think from your experience with clients or in the fitness world that I came back to fast? I got shin splints a little bit last year when I played basketball so I skipped out on my run today because I didn’t want to make it worse.

  43. Amara on June 29, 2010 at 12:44 am

Did you ever try “Glitter Toes”? That kind of pedicure is indestructible! Thanks for the talk on guilt –I believe that hurts me way more than any missed workout or contraband cookie ever could.

  44. Annie D @ Annie's Simple Life on June 29, 2010 at 5:55 am

Yeah…. I’m not much of a pedi person either!

  45. Alycia @ Fit n Fresh on June 29, 2010 at 6:53 am

  46. rachael on June 29, 2010 at 8:16 am

That truffles looks amazing! I love spicy chocolate.

I am scared of pedicures too. I love how pretty my feet look when my friends drag me but I seriously need a drink to get in the chair and get over how many other feet have been there.

  47. Trina on June 29, 2010 at 8:47 am

    Gina-

  48. Marissa on June 29, 2010 at 8:53 am

I gotta get my mind to wrap around the whole “quality vs. quality” thing with workouts… right now, I’m trying to do both! Which feels great, but makes me tired, hahah. I never will get a pedicure or a manicure–so many of my friends have gotten warts under their fingernails that way! Not worth the risk.

    • Fitnessista on June 29, 2010 at 9:52 am

      gahhh! ewww

  49. Jessica on June 29, 2010 at 8:57 am

I really like your thought about the gym at the end of this post. You’re right. I used to feel the same after loosing a lot of weight.

I’ve never had a PB & jelly larabar, I bet it’s so tasty!

  50. Sylvia on June 29, 2010 at 2:02 pm

I don’t think we have the same flavors of larabars in Canada. I never see Peanut Butter and Jelly or any of the Coconut cream ones! ๐Ÿ™
