Need Some Yoga

Hey hey hey 😀 How’s your day going?

belly

Bella and I started off the day with a beautiful hour walk. It was 60 degrees today, so the weather was perfect and it was a good chance for both of us to enjoy the fresh air.

Some recent eats:

smoothie

Smoothie in a bowl with blueberries, brown rice protein and almond milk (I’m out of Sun Warrior!)

Smoked salmon, egg, wilted arugula and mustard

egg

Muh lurve

lara

Burrito bootay

burrito

+ the rest of the almond butter I made yesterday (haha, it’s totally gone now)

a cinnamon swirl cookie (not gluten-free or vegan, but very delicious)

and some pizookie 😀

Yes, the stress monster is here.

Usually when I have a lot on my plate (which is always), I do extremely well- I thrive on being crazy busy. I make lists, prioritize and get r done.

For some reason, this time, since I have no idea what to expect, the stress has been a little much – plus, all I want to eat are overly salty and sweet foods.

The plan:

-Focus on eating extremely well (I feel better and more focused—the pizookie today made me soooo tired)

-Get some yoga in my life asap

-Schedule some *me* time- even if it’s just 30 minutes. Since I got to Tucson, my days have pretty much been filled from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep. It doesn’t bother me in the least because I love my jobs so much, but definitely need to take some me time each day.

-Get a massage. Right now I would pay a random person on the street to rub my back. To be safe, I’ll hit up the spa.

I went back a read through a post I wrote on Fighting the Stress Monster. Time to take my own advice?? 🙂

How do you deal with stress? Any tips?

xoxo,

Gina

Upcoming: Winter Shape Up starts MONDAY! It’s going to be the most extensive plan I’ve ever done—meal plans, videos, the werx. Mark your calendar! 😀

Oh boo – I hate the stress monster. Even though it takes time, all that works to combat stress for me is working out! If I even think I’m “too stressed or busy to work out” I know I have to work out so I can focus on what has to be done! I’m also big on list writing and breaking up big tasks into small so it’s not so overwhelming!

  2. simi on January 12, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I can’t wait I need some Winter Shape up!!

  3. Angie on January 12, 2011 at 7:40 pm

I love your pics of Bella 🙂 She looks so good with her fur-cut! lol I admit, I’ve never done yoga before …. but you have me tempted after reading about how much you love it!

  4. Runeatrepeat on January 12, 2011 at 7:42 pm

I am the worst with stress so it’s something I’m really trying to work on this new year! I aim to stay organized and breathe.

  5. Brittany on January 12, 2011 at 7:43 pm

And P.s. I Totally have it written in my school planner haha !

  6. Alissa on January 12, 2011 at 7:44 pm

I live in more stressed out times than not. I have been giving myself the first 30 mins of the day to be a ‘bum’ checking emails, blogging, etc. Then the next 15-30 I clean house, make dinner for the night, etc. while hanging out and playing with my cats. I find that this time is what makes me the most happy through my day.

I have to say also that I am very excited for Winter Shape up! I need to get my butt back in gear, the cold weather is making it so hard!

  7. kayli on January 12, 2011 at 7:46 pm

This sounds so silly, but it works for me– when I’m feeling frazzled I close my eyes, breathe, and repeat a mantra. My favorite: *inhale* “I am”, *exhale* “calm and relaxed”.

Hope you beat that evil stress monster 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2011 at 7:51 pm

i do a mantra sometimes too! but mine is “peace” “calm” 🙂

  8. LisaG on January 12, 2011 at 7:46 pm

I like to go see a good movie to escape my stress. Them maybe some dinner & a glass of wine “as big as my head!” A massage definitely helps! And power shopping.

  9. Katie on January 12, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Gina! I cant believe YOU are out of sunwarrior : ( I hope you have some on order! U should have stock in that and always have a mass supply, I know how much you love it!

Stress has been eating me alive over here too, like crazy : p I def need a massage, told mike that last night but he needs one too, he has been working long days, coming home and working at home until midnight or 1 am, its a crazy job he has, doesnt help with us both stressed, but I found ME time to be so good, honestly today I was having bad stress, I took a break , read a trashy gossip mag ( lol ) and relaxed for a half hour and felt so much better! Ok sorry for writing you a novel on here, but I feel ya thats all I wanted to say, perhaps we should book massages next month ! Or yoga somewhere ; ) have a gnite girl!

  12. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on January 12, 2011 at 7:53 pm

I’m so excited for winter shape up!
I haven’t seen that Larabar yet, for some reason I feel like we always get them last!

  13. Lauren- HungryDancer on January 12, 2011 at 7:54 pm

You are so lucky to find all the new Lara Bar flavors!! I can NEVER find them!!! Speaking of Sun Warrior I never would have found such an amazing protein powder if it wasn’t for you!! Stress is a killer but for me the best way to fight it is to do what I love….dance!! Even if I’m just dancing around my bedroom like a maniac!

  14. Katy @ A Healthy Shot on January 12, 2011 at 8:11 pm

I am totally bitten by the stress bug! 4 grad classes, work and a big trip to plan. To keep from totally freaking out I’m trying to take things one week at a time. Breaking things down into smaller steps makes the long term a little less intimidating, and I try to make my workout a time that I can just zone out.

    Chocolate and wine help also…

  15. Whitney on January 12, 2011 at 8:16 pm

I’m very stressed out with my current job sitch. I hate it and I dread going in everyday. I swear, the only thing keeping me sane is exercising. It completely mellows me out. And I agree that a glass of wine definitely helps 🙂

  16. Rachael on January 12, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Ah, stress. My go-to solution is to get lost in the woods, desert or what have you. Preferably for days. Not overly practical, but it cures me every time. On a day to day basis, I take a lot of tech breaks when I’m feeling put-upon, take naps or simply go to a place where I can be around others, but still maintain my own space and silence.

  17. Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) on January 12, 2011 at 8:28 pm

I try to get outside and breathe in fresh air when I’m really stressed. Chocolate never hurts, either. 😉

  18. Stacy R. on January 12, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Oh my gosh I am SO EXCITED for Winter Shape Up… I just got engaged and am more motivated than ever to lose weight! I always incorporate your workouts into my routine but changing it up is always good!

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2011 at 8:56 pm

      congrats on your engagement!!

  19. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on January 12, 2011 at 8:39 pm

Eating extremely well is the best defense for me! Sometimes I’ll go as far as cutting out coffee, too– I find that too much caffeine can really affect my anxiety levels. (and I’d rather cut coffee than chocolate!) 😉

Getting outside and playing with my pup helps, too!

  20. Katie ~ Run For The Bikini! on January 12, 2011 at 8:43 pm

Running stairs gets rid of my stress everytime! I turn on my beats and am in my own little world 😀

  21. Sarah (Sarah Learns) on January 12, 2011 at 8:43 pm

aww, i hate feeling stressed. i totally agree with you about keeping your diet clean when you’re stressed. who wants to feel stressed and bloated/tired/cranky? good luck with everything!!

  22. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on January 12, 2011 at 8:46 pm

First of all, I’m stoked with the idea of a winter shape-up!

I love being busy and thrive when at my busiest as well, so I hear ya, but sometimes it can get overwhelming for sure.. I end up baking like a fiend, but yoga is a definite must. Always makes life better. Your post made me think of this Mother Teresa quote too: “Peace begins with a smile.” Trust me, she’s correct!

  23. Charlotte on January 12, 2011 at 8:50 pm

I totes cannot waaaait to start the winter shapeup. It’s just what I need for spring breakkk!! Curious, How many weeks does it run ??

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2011 at 8:55 pm

4 but you can repeat it and make it 8 🙂

  24. Katelyn on January 12, 2011 at 8:52 pm

Haha, sometimes almond butter just ends up in your mouth, you know? Weird how that happens..

  25. Raya on January 12, 2011 at 8:55 pm

High intensity workout is always my go-to stress reliever. Something like kickboxing is ideal b/c if you’re REALLY upset you can punch and kick it away. Heh 🙂 And sometimes I’ve found a bath with the hottest water you can stand is good too. Just don’t stay in too long!

  26. CathyK on January 12, 2011 at 9:02 pm

it helps me to just say “i am so stressed out!!!” to a friend, the husband, my mom…and vent for a few minutes. always a load off my chest, then.
also, write down every task to accomplish in a daily planner – check, check, check as you go through the day. and yes, write down the “me” time and yoga time, too!
i love that you love being busy! it sure beats twiddling your thumbs, eh!

  27. nicole on January 12, 2011 at 9:02 pm

I work out to deal with stress- running and other intense cardio. Go get that massage and relax! I’m excited for winter shape up, I’ve been doing too much running but now I have a shin splint and I NEED to get back to strength training.

  28. Katie on January 12, 2011 at 9:03 pm

I get stressed so easily, so I try to do yoga daily. Yoga is the only thing that calms me these days. But I also love cuddling with the kitty and reading a good book 30 minutes before bed. 🙂 My kitty calms me with her purring and cuddling. Pets are the best!

  29. Jill on January 12, 2011 at 9:03 pm

I planned to start Insanity this week but I have a weights class on Mondays and the first one was a couple of days ago and I was soooo sore yesterday and today that I just couldn’t move. And then I had a boot camp class today and I think tomorrow will not be kind to me either. I’m feeling stressed, too, lately, since I just graduated university and now I really need to find a job (I have two part-time jobs right now, but I want a *real* career already! every place wants 5+ years of experience and I can’t even find a place to start somewhere, haha). It’s very stressful. I’ll need to go bang on company doors screaming GIVE ME A CHANCE! (Although that might not go over too well, could be creepy.) I would love to get into yoga but it is so expensive here.

  30. Maggie on January 12, 2011 at 9:16 pm

Talking to other people about my stress always works for me! It makes my problems seem smaller. Sometimes a good cry helps. 🙂 Also, like a lot of people have said it’s good to have time to relax and not think about the future. If you’re enjoying life at the moment, there’s just less reason to stress about the future!

  31. Allison @ Food For Healing on January 12, 2011 at 9:29 pm

i’m excited to see your winter shape up plan, might help me out with a few things!

  32. Heather (Heather's Dish) on January 12, 2011 at 9:29 pm

i think you hit the nail on the head with the “me” time…that was something i learned the hard way when i got married, and now we both have to take some time to ourselves. otherwise it can get VERY ugly!

  33. danielle on January 12, 2011 at 9:36 pm

I find what helps me is weighing up my commitments in cost vs benefit fashion. If it means I have to adjust my commitments because the negatives (stress) out weigh the benefits then that is OK.
That really does work for me and helps me keep everything in perspective.

  34. Leigh on January 12, 2011 at 9:41 pm

I’m so excited for the Winter Shape Up!

  35. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 12, 2011 at 9:52 pm

    YOGA!!! YES!!!

So sorry you’re feeling the crrrrrunch of stress. I know how it is to wake up feeling behind the 8 ball from the moment you wake up and it doesnt stop til you hit the pillow and the next day is the same way. That’s my life most days 🙂

I have learned to just say, ya know, I am giving 110% to everything and everyone in my life and if x y or z doesnt happen today, or ever, then…so be it. When I look back in 10 yrs on my life, or in 10 weeks, that “really important thing” probably wont matter much anyway…so I try to just roll with life, best i can.

Easier said than done tho 🙂

In the meantime, yoga, chocolate, talks w/ friends or spouse, breathing, 10 mins of quiet breathing or 1 minute.. whatever i can do!

    Hang in there girl!

  36. Christin@purplebirdblog on January 12, 2011 at 9:53 pm

The stress monster has been getting me too, and it’s showing in my lack of exercise and my less than stellar eats. I’m actively working on it, and thank god for getting free massages because I’m in massage therapy school!! 🙂

  37. Sana on January 12, 2011 at 9:58 pm

yeahhh i would not trust a random person. Creepersss!

Oh, and on the fashion thang….. I found a great new bra — handful.com — check it out!! Sooooo comfy! For every day and for low impact workouts.

Sorry to hear your are so stressed 🙁 I can def. relate though..my dentist told me if I didn’t de-stress I wouldn’t have any teeth left..lol

Can’t wait for the Winter Shape Up..I am def. joining you this go around!

  40. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table on January 12, 2011 at 10:15 pm

I hear you on the stress. My favorite cure is reserving “me” time. Literally block out an hour and chill out in bed with a book and glass of wine. The other think that helps me is making a let of everything I have to do – there is something so satisfying about crossing items off a list!

  41. Mary @ Bites and Bliss on January 12, 2011 at 10:31 pm

I deal with stress through time with my animals (as you have covered with your walks with your beautiful puppy 🙂 ), yoga, and unwinding by talking to Michael. It just helps to talk..a lot lmho as if it gets out pent up anxiety.

  42. michele @ calmlliving.blogspot.com on January 12, 2011 at 10:38 pm

I can’t wait to get my hands on a blueberry muffin larabar!!!!! I deal with stress through yoga. I have recently moved into a calmer lifestyle and incorporated yoga w/ some meditation to deal with everyday stress. Nothing calms me down more though that laying on the floor w/ my labrador retriever and rubbing his belly. He can lay there for a good 1/2 hour.

  43. Namaste Gurl on January 12, 2011 at 10:48 pm

Hehe, I’m with you girly on needing some major yoga! I coincidentally just wrote a post on that topic, as well. I’ve been running and doing cardio activities a lot recently, so yoga is just what I need and crave currently- hence why I’m doubling up on it the next two days 🙂

Your eats look yummy and quite similar to mine! Enjoy your evening, Gina 🙂

  44. Katy (The Singing Runner) on January 12, 2011 at 10:59 pm

Oooo stress! I hate it! I deal with stress by baking and working out! 😀

  45. Keltie on January 12, 2011 at 11:01 pm

Can’t wait for the Winter Shape Up!!! That’s so awesome that you do up these plans! Thank you! I hear you on the stress situation! I am very stressed right now, and have put everything on hold for a few days. I am trying to take some time for myself, and am hoping tomorrow to be able to work out, because I know that will help;)

  46. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on January 12, 2011 at 11:13 pm

I first need to create a list and get everything out, then eliminate things task by task. I always have a certain time when I turn *off*. I shower, sleep and let my mind rest.

  47. gina on January 12, 2011 at 11:25 pm

Yoga always helps me deal, but what if the the yoga teacher training I’m about to start is causing the stress! I love yoga so much…I just hope I am making the right choice!

  48. Michelle Young on January 12, 2011 at 11:36 pm

I can relate. I made my hubby raw chocolate cake tonight and way overindulged due to the stress monster. Yoga & deep breathing help me a during time of anxiety and stress. Also, drinking lots of water and taking a bit of time to do something pampering like reading a good book, creating something, or if money allows getting a manicure or massage. I hope things look up for you!

  49. Maryann on January 12, 2011 at 11:51 pm

Pizookies are my favorite dessert ever. Exercise is the best way for me to beat the stress.

  50. Lisa on January 12, 2011 at 11:57 pm

How do I deal with stress?

    One word: sex

    😉
