Not my forte

Another amazing day <3

zoo

It was the Pilotโ€™s first time at the San Diego Zoo- we headed down there after bfast.

panda

We loved seeing all of the animals

meerkat

– my favorite was watching the meerkats dig for grubs and eat them.

eerkat

There were also a few hilarious photo opsโ€ฆ

pilot

me

monkey

and the Pilot coerced me to ride the gondola of fear in the sky.. aka the โ€œSkyfari.โ€

gondola

The Pilot is the type of person who will rock the boat if weโ€™re on a ride (especially Ferris wheelsโ€ฆ and I cry, haha) and Iโ€™m the person who is afraid of heights, unless Iโ€™m going too fast to realize how high I am (like on a roller coaster).

I made him promise to be nice and not rock the Skyfari, or I was afraid Iโ€™d deliver our baby in the sky.

Thankfully, he was nice.

trees

We walked around for about 3 hours (hooray for extra cardio), and the Pilot navigated us, since heโ€™s naturally good at that sort of thing.

pilot (2)

I, on the other hand, am not.

map

Thatโ€™s what happened when I put โ€œThe Missionโ€ into Google maps to find our breakfast spot. My navigator duties were then taken away.

After the Pilot got us there, we had one of my favorite restaurant breakfastsโ€ฆ

eggs

Eggs, applewood chicken sausage, potatoes and freshly made rosemary gluten-free toast for me

French toast, eggs, bacon and mimosas for him.

french toast

I have no words for how good it was- thank you so much to those of you who suggested it! Everything was wonderfully fresh and flavorful.

Somehow, today we also ended up at the mall:

mall2

and back at Cups.

cupcakes2

[3 mini cups: lemon ricotta, almond dream and pb cup]

hot cocoa2

[almond milk hot cocoa]

Weโ€™ll definitely miss that place!

Chilling back at the hotel before a fun blog-friend dinner date..

sunset

see ya laterrrr <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Are you afraid of heights, or NBD? When was the last time you got in some fun extra cardio? Or maybe I donโ€™t want to know the answer to thatโ€ฆ haha

I love all the photo ops at the zoo! I love heights but roller coasters scare the crap out of me! Give me a ferris wheel or a gondola ride over feeling like I’m hurtling to my death at 100mph any day!

  2. Blake @ Blake Bakes on November 15, 2011 at 8:22 pm

I’m not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of being in high places with my significant other. My boyfriend always shakes the ferris wheel! So now I just won’t go, problem solved lol.

  3. Haley @ Fit, Young, and Fabulous on November 15, 2011 at 8:30 pm

That breakfast looks delish! One day, when I visit San Diego, I will definitely be checking out The Mission!

  4. Army Amy* on November 15, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Panda! I’ve never been to the San Diego Zoo. It looks like a good time!*

  5. Diana on November 15, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Your trip looks so fun! You two are so adorable. Your little girl is going to have SUCH a blast going on silly adventures with y’all!

    • Fitnessista on November 15, 2011 at 8:49 pm

i hope so! we kept talking about how much fun it’s going to be to take her with us

  6. Bee @ thebusybeewrites on November 15, 2011 at 8:35 pm

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in San Diego! I’ve been reliving pieces of it through your pictures! It looks like you’re having so much fun! The last fun cardio I got was actually this evening. I’ve been stressed at school and recooping from an injury, so my husband is trying to help me get back into a work out routine to shed the pounds I’ve packed on. We took our lab and went for a nice long run at sun set. Beautiful! Anyways, enjoy San Diego!

  7. RachelG on November 15, 2011 at 8:41 pm

Aw, I went to that mall with my dad when we were in San Diego! Thanks for bringing back good memories for me! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Chloe (In Fine Feather) on November 15, 2011 at 8:43 pm

I’ve always wanted to go to the San Diego zoo, especially since I know they treat their animals so well there. Looks like a wonderful vacation!

  9. Pinky on November 15, 2011 at 8:44 pm

I am not scared of heights at all. However, sometimes my body reacts even though my mind doesn’t care. I’ve had my legs start shaking when I’ve been up working high on a ladder, and laughing too.

My mother couldn’t ever get me out of trees ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Olivia @ PeanutButterNerd on November 15, 2011 at 8:45 pm

hope you guys continue to have an amazing time! looks so fun!

  11. Mahealani @ Beauty, Brains, and Balance on November 15, 2011 at 8:56 pm

That zoo is amazing, I haven’t been in such a long time! I am a total heights wuss, unless I am moving fast like a rollercoaster (exactly what you said too!). I had a very embarrassing moment when I burst into tears on the Eye of London and held onto the central pole in the cab whimpering. The other tourists thought I was nuts. ๐Ÿ˜›

  12. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on November 15, 2011 at 9:00 pm

I live 1/2 mile from the zoo! I would have loved to see you guys but I know this was your special pre-baby getaway and it’s awesome that you’ve had this focused time together.

And time at the mall, yoga, and Cups. That’s perfect ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Allison on November 15, 2011 at 9:05 pm

i HATE heights so much, i just cant handle it.
hiking would be my idea of fun cardio, and i haven’t done anything like that in awhile, only gym cardio

  14. Amanda on November 15, 2011 at 9:09 pm

I am not a fan of heights. In high school, we had to do things like climb up and jump off telephone polls as part of our sophomore year gym class. It.was.terrifying.

Those cupcakes look so good. I love anything with lemon, but that pb one looks divine.

    • Amanda on November 15, 2011 at 9:11 pm

*telephone poles, not “polls”. it might be time for me to go to bed. haha

  15. Christina on November 15, 2011 at 9:11 pm

laughed so hard when I saw your mapping skills. I would do the same thing. I was co-pilot one time in the car with the boyfriend, reading out directions he hand-wrote. And I told him “Lefton street!” and we drove around looking for Lefton street. When he realized it said “LEFT ON CANAL STREET” my navigator duties were also taken away. Woops! =)

  16. Lindsey on November 15, 2011 at 9:21 pm

I am terrified of heights and my hubby would totally do the same thing, those boys love to bug us ๐Ÿ˜‰ Meerkats are my favorite too!

  17. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats on November 15, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Men are always so killer at directions! It makes me mad because I am horrible at that stuff! lol. I wish I was getting some of that extra cardio you referred to at the end! lol. ๐Ÿ˜› I am definitely afraid of heights. Last time I conquered that fear was riding the ski lift at the Colorado Springs Zoo. My palms were sweaty and locked on that front bar the entire time!

  18. Angie on November 15, 2011 at 9:28 pm

Ahh i am deathly afraid of heights. When i was preg with our youngest we went to San Diego to visit my fams. We decided to go to Sea World, welllll, they have a skyfari ride over the ocean. yeah the pics of me are high-lari-ous! I am cringing with white knuckles. ๐Ÿ˜€
You are soo funny with putting the mission into your navigator and it taking you to mexico. LOL. Funny thing is its literally five blocks from where you are staying. Did you like it?
Next time you go I will give you my best friends info, she is a massage therapist in Pacific Beach on Garnet who specializes in athletes and pregnant customers.
Hope you enjoyed your lovely visit to SD. I love my hometown. To answer your question earlier…for me the novelty never wore off. I LOVE SD. The whole beach vibe and laidbackness of SD is amazing. Its such a chill town. I get such a sense of peace and calm when i am there. Especially when i go to Mission Beach. When i am home i love to go running on the sea walk from the pier to Belmont Park and back. Then on the mission bay side you can run around and its like 4 miles.
LOVE Horton Plaza. Its soo cute and right in the heart of downtown. Did you guys go to Seaport village and see the harbor or go to Coronado?

San Diego is so gorgeous! My friend is actually there right now and posted pics of the zoo too ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. Amy on November 15, 2011 at 9:44 pm

Between the sunsets, ocean views and delish looking meals…………….I wish I were there……..glad you are!!!!

  21. Ali on November 15, 2011 at 9:46 pm

Haha, I love the extra fun carido question! I will keep it pg, and say P90x has some fun cardio routines, and that is mostly due to the fact that Tony Horton is so funny. It looks like you had an awesome day! Those cup cakes look stunning too!

  22. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on November 15, 2011 at 9:55 pm

I’m not too afraid of heights, except when I’m at the edge of a cliff. I stay at least 10 feet away because I’m terrified of tripping and falling over the edge! ๐Ÿ˜›

Those cupcakes look amazing! I wouldn’t be able to stay away from that place either!

  23. Shaina on November 15, 2011 at 10:02 pm

The Mission! I NEVER vacay in San Diego without going haha. The same chef runs Isabel’s Cantina in Pacific Beach – uh.may.zing.

  24. Erin on November 15, 2011 at 10:17 pm

Yay!!! So glad you enjoyed the Mission!!! I’m sure I was only one of many, many people who suggested it — every time my bf and I drive down to SD we go there for breakfast (and, the last time we went to the zoo, too!). Hope you both (all three?) had an amazing time!!

  25. kaila@ healthy helper blog! on November 15, 2011 at 10:23 pm

I looooove Horton Plaza!! Best mall ever!!!!!

  26. Laura on November 15, 2011 at 10:45 pm

True story – My engagement ring was purchased at that mall after the man got back from Iraq.

Also true story – Meerkats are my favorite animal and if it wasn’t horribly irresponsible I would have one for a pet.

  27. Brittany on November 15, 2011 at 10:56 pm

Almond milk hot cocoa – yes please!!

  28. Alexa @ SimpleEats on November 15, 2011 at 10:57 pm

Getting lost in New York City was some fun extra cardio for me this weekend! I’m definitely not good with direction, like you ๐Ÿ˜‰

  29. Juanita on November 15, 2011 at 11:07 pm

HAHA OMG I know exactly how you feel about the heights thing except you’re better at controlling it than me! My boyfriend and I went on the Giant Dipper which is an extemely old roller coaster thats made out of wood and I cried the whole time we waited, getting in it, and being on it. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy. But at the very end he asked me if it was fun and…….IT WAS. I felt so stupid crying like that ๐Ÿ™

  30. Sara on November 15, 2011 at 11:15 pm

I am REALLY not afraid of heights, but I am claustrophobic. I once climbed to the top of a cathedral spire with a group while travelling and was the only one RELIEVED to be out on the windy little balcony. I was dreading the climb down that narrow little staircase though…
Of course The Pilot likes scare stuff, he’s a PILOT after all, in the military. I can imagine this is a job that would appeal to someone with ‘thrill issues’ ๐Ÿ˜€

  31. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on November 15, 2011 at 11:28 pm

SUPER scared of heights!!!! It’s sad bad and just awful cause I’m a midget but ya know. That’s what men are for. YOU WENT TO THE ZOOOO! The best. And that food. I want sausage. Right meow.

  32. Jenn (eating bender) on November 15, 2011 at 11:30 pm

This post had me giggling – I love how goofy you two are! Those pictures are great. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m terrified of heights, too. It doesn’t bug me on planes unless there is turbulence (then I burst out the deep breathing and tears), but definitely on any other slow moving ride, etc.

Also was just at that mall in August! I heart San Diego!

  33. jen on November 16, 2011 at 12:29 am

I am afraid of heights, but I did love climbing trees when I was younger lol! My friend and I were on a ferris wheel at the beach and her boyfriend and 3 and 6 yr old daugthers were under us hands up rocking back and forth, and it was the kind that your feet dangle. We were trying to take pics of the sunset but freaking out cuz that ment one hand off and we were white knuckles holding on lol!

  34. Catherine on November 16, 2011 at 12:47 am

Ahh, that sunset over the water is unreal! Amazing how California seems to have a gold-and-pink moment every day – it just washes over everything.

  35. Kara on November 16, 2011 at 3:15 am

Awww that panda is the cutest!! I love the zoo. Oh my goodness, so scared of heights. When I was younger in gymnastics, we would have to climb this rope all the way up to the ceiling and I was so embarrassed that I could barely climb five feet without becoming deathly afraid, I would hide in the foam pit! Ahaha problem child.

  36. Juliane @ C'est moi ร  Paris on November 16, 2011 at 3:24 am

My favorite extra cardio is walking around in beautiful Paris!

  37. Fatless Formula on November 16, 2011 at 4:16 am

Is it just me or the French toast, eggs, bacon and mimosas looks much more delicious ๐Ÿ˜›

  38. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on November 16, 2011 at 4:37 am

Hahaha! My boyfriend does that too – he’s not bothered at all by heights, but they scare me silly, so he is always joyously leaning over the edge, shaking our carriage, jumping up and down to make it more “exciting”, whilst I am more often than not freaking out, lol! ๐Ÿ˜› It must be a guy thing – my Kiwi loves risk, me, not so much…I like my life, kinda wanna keep it safe, lol! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Looks like you’ve had an absolutely wonderful time, that seems like a truly lovely day – so glad you’re enjoying yourselves! I wish I had a day off to go and adventure like you too, now!

  39. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on November 16, 2011 at 4:37 am

Enjoy your blog friend dinner, and have FUN! <3 (I know you already are!) xyx

  40. Gen on November 16, 2011 at 6:37 am

Looks like another awesome day! I am really scared of heights!!! The only time they don’t bother me is when we’re on an airplane, and that’s probably because I am typically asleep before we ever take off! ๐Ÿ˜€

  41. Coco on November 16, 2011 at 6:41 am

OMG my husband does the same thing!! I HATE ferris wheels.. I donโ€™t care how gentle they are or whatever.. I donโ€™t like when your stuck at the top forever while they let people on and of.. Those cup cakes look yummy ๐Ÿ™‚ and I love pandas!

  42. Athena @ Fitness & Feta on November 16, 2011 at 8:08 am

I’m not so much afraid of heights as I am scared of open edges! I can be high up if it’s enclosed – but the minute I think I’m going right off an edge, I can’t even handle it!

  43. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on November 16, 2011 at 9:42 am

I read this interesting article a while back about people who think they’re afraid of heights, so I’m wondering if this is you, too. It was saying how most people who think they’re afraid of heights are actually afraid of ledges/drop offs (otherwise, you would be afraid of roller coasters, which I’m not either). If I’m at the top of an uber tall building, I feel just fine until I step closer to the edge to look down. I usually just avoid approaching a full-glass ledge at all costs because I get really panicky.

  44. Liz @ Southern Charm on November 16, 2011 at 11:32 am

Loving the fun photos at the zoo!!

I am a wuss when it comes to heights, especially when I can see where I’m going. I free out when in my gym class we run incline 24 backwards. There is just something about looking at the ground and it seeming so far away!!

  45. Sara on November 16, 2011 at 12:59 pm

So glad you tried the Mission, it is wonderful

  46. Tee @ She Writes, Bites, and Window Shops on November 16, 2011 at 1:41 pm

  47. Brittany @Little b's healthy habits on November 16, 2011 at 3:51 pm

I LOVE the Mission! I go with my boyfriends family every year to San Diego and that is one of the restaurants we always seem to eat at multiple times while we’re there!

  48. Hillary on November 16, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Heights totally wig me out. I’m such a wimp that it’s hard for me to even stand on a second story balcony! Gah.

  49. Vanessa on November 16, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Looks like such a good time! I’m jealous. lol
