Don’t you love when something totally unexpected makes your day a little brighter?

moon

(Gorgeous full moon last night! Now if only I knew how to make my camera photograph it like an actual moon instead of a dot, that’d be kinda cool)

Well, that’s what happened yesterday 🙂

package

First I was excited to see a package that didn’t have the Amazon smiley face on it –those tend to pop up over here pretty frequently- and then I saw “perishable food” and things got even more ridic.

cookies5

A package of Chicago foodie goodies from our good friends Mara and Adam 🙂

Carol’s cookies, Garrett’s popcorn and a deep dish pizza. No words.

I couldn’t open the popcorn fast enough….

and put the pizza in the oven, just in time for the Pilot to get home from work.

Random acts of kindness are truly amazing, and whenever someone does something nice for me, it makes me want to share the positive energy with someone else… so I thought it would be a great day for a giveaway- it’s been a while since we’ve had one of those over here!

After reading the comments on yesterday’s YouTube fitness post, I remembered that many of you also enjoy working out at home, so I thought I’d share one of my favorite at-home workouts with a blog friend:

image image

Winner’s choice: Insanity or Turbofire

You can read my reviews in the links above and decide whether you would prefer a drill-based high-impact workout, or a dance meets kickbox high-energy workout. It makes it even harder to choose because Shaun T. is fun and verryyyy nice to look at, and Chalene is a firecracker of motivation and energy.

All ya have to do:

-Leave a comment with your favorite at-home workout option

(If it’s your first time commenting, I’ll be approving those throughout the day, so no worries if it doesn’t show up right away)

This giveaway is sponsored by Livi and Bella- the winner will be chosen tonight at midnight EST and announced tomorrow am.

To sweeten the deal:

roons

Hope you have an amazing humpday!

See ya later with a Family post.

xoxo

My at home workouts are usually what I make up in the basement with the weights and bands that we have…the videos would definitely switch things up!

  2. Courtney on March 7, 2012 at 1:15 pm

I like to use Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred at home.

  3. Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots on March 7, 2012 at 1:15 pm

I love Jillian Michael’s workout dvd’s they really kick me in the booty!

  4. Noora on March 7, 2012 at 1:16 pm

I LOVE Turbofire! I just never seem to get bored with the workouts and the music gets me in the mood of a great workout every time.

  5. Ashley on March 7, 2012 at 1:16 pm

I LOVE bodyrock workouts, although recently I have been making up my own high intensity short workouts and loving them just as much. I am a nurse and these are the perfect workout to get in before my 12 hour shift : )

  6. Lori H on March 7, 2012 at 1:16 pm

I love Physique 57! I have all 6 and can’t wait for them to make more. It is one of the few set of Workout DVD’s that I have actually used faithfully! I’m hooked!

  7. Erin on March 7, 2012 at 1:16 pm

I prefer to work out in the morning and as a grad student I am super busy! Consequently I work out at home a lot and am always looking for new ways to mix it up. I have discovered tons of youtube fitness channels thanks to your blog! Thank goodness, right? Currently I’ve been digging blogilates, Tara Styles yoga, and Zuzanalight. Thanks for all your “focus on” posts!

  8. Amanda on March 7, 2012 at 1:16 pm

Jillian Michaels!! Especially Ripped in 30 – great 3-2-1 workouts that incorporate strength, cardio and abs!!

  9. Darcey on March 7, 2012 at 1:17 pm

I’ve been reading your blog for forever, but have never commented…and today seems like the perfect time! The only workout I typically do at home is an abs routine, but sometimes i’ll throw in some push ups to mix it up. My boyfriend has been DYING for me to do the insanity workout with him for months, but we haven’t gotten around to purchasing it…so it would be awesome to get it from you!

  10. Allison on March 7, 2012 at 1:17 pm

I loved Jillian Michaels 30 day shred the first time around. It does get a little boring with only 3 workouts though! Ive been dying to try out insanity for a while 🙂

  11. sabrina on March 7, 2012 at 1:18 pm

I have three go-to workout systems I use at home. The first is bodyrock.tv – I LOVE the the variation and intensity of these workouts. Second is Action Hero Babe by Valerie Waters – who wouldn’t want to look like Jen Garner in Elektra? And finally, I love theBody by Bethenney yoga dvd. It is not too long and intimidating, but it’s not too short either. It is just a great workout that helps me get centered and re-focused when every day life is just so crazy.

  12. tyffanie on March 7, 2012 at 1:18 pm

My fave at-home workout is yoga! While I do enjoy going to classes, I just love working it out on my mat at home sans distractions from other yogis whole are better than me haha!

  13. Michelle on March 7, 2012 at 1:18 pm

I do yoga at home…also thanks to you, Livi, and Bella for the giveaway 😉

My favorite at home workout option is the 30 Day Shred.

  15. Caroline on March 7, 2012 at 1:19 pm

I love Jillian, so I think Insanity would be great for me!

  16. Amy on March 7, 2012 at 1:19 pm

I’m a fan of circuit workouts that don’t require weights. I don’t have anything aside from a pair of 10-lb weights, so I like to focus on body-weight moves. It’s a great way to keep my heart rate up and do things that I don’t do in the gym.

  17. Leah on March 7, 2012 at 1:19 pm

My favorite at home workouts are Jillian Michaels Dvds!

  18. laura on March 7, 2012 at 1:20 pm

I just had a baby too and need some good at home workout options!

  19. Crystal on March 7, 2012 at 1:20 pm

My bike trainer is by far my most used indoor fitness equipment. Throw my tri bike on it, and I’ve got an instant high quality indoor workout.

  20. Lisa D on March 7, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Living in NYC the dead of winter (snow, ice, frigid wind) sometimes makes finding the motivation to leave my apartment VERY tough. I usually put on some good music and do some pilates, maybe do the ‘8 minute ab’ Youtube workout series, and some squats/lunges. To be very honest though, more often than not I bundle up (4+ layers) and brave the elements to do my favorite 6 mile loop around Central Park – nothing like frigid wind to clear the sinuses!

  21. Jodi on March 7, 2012 at 1:21 pm

I love a high-energy work-out that challenges me. I always feel so proud of myself when I am able to go outside my comfort zone. Working out is such a cathartic process for me. Just thinking about it gets me excited! Thanks for your tips, they have been more than helpful.

  22. Cathy on March 7, 2012 at 1:21 pm

I love anything Jillian Michaels and have a few of her DVD’s that I like to switch up!

  23. Carly on March 7, 2012 at 1:22 pm

My favorite at home workout is doing some weightlifting and biking on my at home trainer!

  24. Rachel on March 7, 2012 at 1:22 pm

I love to run outside, which is really fun for my dog since we live in the country and she can be off leash! In the living room, ChaLEAN Extreme has been my go-to.

  25. Jill on March 7, 2012 at 1:22 pm

I love running on the treadmill while watching the TV–preferable a TV show or movie filled with hot bodies to motivate me, ahahah. I also have Insanity and when I want something intense I love to pop it in the DVD player and go for it!

  26. becca on March 7, 2012 at 1:22 pm

My favorite at home workout is EA Active. It sounds silly, but this Wii game totally helped me get my core and arms in shape for my wedding last year.

  27. Christine on March 7, 2012 at 1:24 pm

I haven’t stepped foot in a gym since I graduated from college, so I have tons of things I like to do at home. My favorite place for yoga workouts is yogadownload.com, I have a huge playlist of Zumba routines on YouTube, then of course there’s POP Pilates and my new favorites, ZWOW. I have been wanting both TurboFire and Insanity for a while but I have a hard time justifying the cost when there’s so much free stuff online… if I had to choose between the two, I think I’d go with Insanity.

  28. Laura S on March 7, 2012 at 1:24 pm

    Hey!!! first time commenter!
I love to work out at home when I get to. I like doing at home Crossfit workouts or throw in a P90X video!

  31. katie on March 7, 2012 at 1:25 pm

My favorite workout “at home” is running through my neighborhood! But if I truly have to workout inside at home, I go either for a yoga flow from yogadownload or a jillian michaels vid…both are great at leaving me shaky!

  32. Rebekah on March 7, 2012 at 1:25 pm

I have the Gaiam Pilates for working out at home 🙂 would love to have something else!

  33. Haley Harms on March 7, 2012 at 1:26 pm

  35. Dawn on March 7, 2012 at 1:27 pm

Loved your post yesterday – i’ve been Bodyrockin’ for a couple of months now on and off and I love it! I’m a big YouTube fan too – I tried a couple of Tara Stiles workouts last night after seeing the link on your blog – she’s gorge but i’m going to have to get a lot more bendy to keep up with her! Also, you cannot beat Suzanne Bowen’s pilates DVDs.

I don’t know if i can enter this giveaway from the UK but would totally love Turbofire.

  36. Ann on March 7, 2012 at 1:27 pm

Is it bad that part of the reason I’m entering is because I’m dying to try your roons? At home workouts are great, I usually pull something off exercise tv, ideas from Self magazine, and some of your tips!

  37. Laura J. on March 7, 2012 at 1:27 pm

My fave at home workouts are any Jillian Michaels DVDs and Blogilates and Tone It Up workouts on YouTube 🙂

  38. Faith on March 7, 2012 at 1:28 pm

I generally workout at a gym instead of at home b/c I haven’t found any at-home programs that I have fallen in love with, so I would love to try a fun, new at-home workout DVD set! Also, your post yesterday gave me some great ideas for other options. Thanks!!

  39. Erin Y on March 7, 2012 at 1:28 pm

I love jillian michaels 30 day shred adn no more trouble zones. Both make for a great at home workout guarenteed tomake me sweat. But I woulnt mid addins some insanity in there….just saying.

    Recently it’s been turbo fire!

  43. Sam @ Sam Bock Illustration & Design on March 7, 2012 at 1:30 pm

  44. Vanessa on March 7, 2012 at 1:31 pm

  46. Kailey on March 7, 2012 at 1:32 pm

I have been dying to try Insanity! Was looking into buying it soon, I’ve heard so many great things. At home I love POP Pilates with Cassey, Tone it Up videos and Jillian Michaels DVDs. Still need to try Zumba! 🙂

  47. MorganAK on March 7, 2012 at 1:32 pm

my favorite at home workout is Body Rock! I love how quick they are and i usually combine 2 or 3 together.. I even had my Brother in Law build me a dip station out of PVC piping so i could do more the the moves shown!!

  48. Amanda on March 7, 2012 at 1:32 pm

My favorite at home work outs are the Jillian Michaels dvd’s!

  49. Julie on March 7, 2012 at 1:32 pm

I do a few different ones now, but I have to give a shout-out to The Firm! I lost 40 pounds and transformed my entire life huffing it out to those ladies back in 2003-2004, and even though I have graduated to running, bikram, and crossfit, I am and will ALWAYS be a “Firm Believer”.

I never worked out a day in my life prior to them and had BED mixed with Bulimia before them, but with their kit I lost weight, cleaned up my diet permanently (the pioneers of “clean eating” for me), and got strength and body confidence, both of which I had none of. I really learned to love my body and see how supporting it instead of destroying it made me feel with The Firm.

  50. Brie on March 7, 2012 at 1:33 pm

I love to do CrossFit style workouts at home. It’s amazing how sweaty you can get with your body weight by air squats, burpees, push-ups, lunges, and sit-ups. I’m definitely going to need these after the baby gets here to get back in shape!
