Spring in my Step

Heyyyy Open-mouthed smile How are ya? Happy Fashion Friday! Hope you have something fun planned for this weekend.

Pretty much every day this week, Iโ€™ve had an egg burrito on a brown rice tortilla.

burrito (1)

When the tortilla is warm, I smear a little organic butter on it before adding the scrambled eggs, just like my madre used to. It reminds me of my childhood, eating an egg burrito in the car on the way to school Smile

This morning, before the egg-rito, I did a workout I havenโ€™t done in FOREVER: Step!!

I used to be a step machine when we lived in NC, and taught step for about a year, but itโ€™s definitely been awhile since Iโ€™ve gotten my V-step and triple knee repeater on Winking smile It was a lot of fun.

Packed lonchi:

burrito (3)

Salad beast with arugula, tomatoes, goat cheese, kalamata olives, Garlic Gold, basil, balsamic, chickpeas

+ quinoa to add on top

burrito (2)

Amazing.

So even though itโ€™s FREEZING cold outside, and usually most [normal] people focus on cute bundling clothes this time of year, my mind instantly shifts to spring. The stores start getting their spring shipments around January, and it makes me very excited Smile When itโ€™s cold, I wear many layers (most of which Iโ€™m lucky if they match), and donโ€™t get too crazy with trendy stuff. When the weather warms up, my style comes out a little more Winking smile LOVE dresses and skirts so much.

hereโ€™s what Iโ€™m looking forward to this spring:

Bold Colors:

Mixed prints:

Platforms and clogs:

Denim dresses and fun jumpers:

What are you most looking forward to about spring? Do you prefer fall/winter clothes or summer/spring clothes?

Well Iโ€™m off to do the work thang, but I hope you have an amazing day <3

xoxo

Gina

Headโ€™s up: Winter Shape Up 2011 starts January 17th- mark your calendars! Iโ€™m really excited about this one Smile If you have preferences for the types of workouts youโ€™d like me to include, please hit me up in the comments section

I love spring/summer clothes. So much variety. I usually wear a uniform in the winter–cords, long sleeve shirt w/cardigan or a sweater. I get bored and usually by the end of the winter I’ve exhausted all the different combos ๐Ÿ™‚

YES step is awesome! I haven’t been to a step class in agesss though- must go again! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ooh I love that print dress from Express! Loverly!

I definitely prefer summer clothes! They tend to be brighter colours, which I love! ๐Ÿ˜€

One Springtime workout I think you may be interested in ( I know I am to the point of salivation)is the ‘sequel’ to Insanity – did you hear of this? It is going to be called The Asylum, and it launches in March or thereabouts, I believe. Oh happy day….! x

    Salad looks amazing ๐Ÿ˜€

I am definitely a spring/summer clothes person. I’ve been stocking up on clearance denim shorts this fall/winter (yaayy $6 denim shorts at AE), yes even during the winter I buy summer clothes. . . and in the summer I buy summer clothes!

The one thing I really like about fall/winter clothes is BOOTS, LOVE them, all types.

I got an awesome denim dress last spring, can’t wait to wear it again!!

I definitely prefer spring and summer clothes here in Cali!! I HATE jackets and sweaters. It doesn’t get cold enough here so I don’t want to spend too much money on cute peacoats and such. I can’t wait to go sundress shopping again

  10. jenna on January 7, 2011 at 3:25 pm

your salads always look so good and fresh! It’s been fun hearing about your old eats that you are putting back in your life! that bfast burrito sounds really yummy!

I have 100 pounds to lose so I would love to see something that helped to really helped to blast the weight off but also toned at the same time! Would you design an eating plan that would go along with it?! I’d absolutely LOVE it!

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 5:32 pm

yes an eating plan is always included ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Jae on January 7, 2011 at 3:37 pm

    Hey Gina,

My name is Jae and I was wondering… would you consider hula hooping (with a weighted one) to be a good workout? And do you know if walking 3.5 miles burns the same amount of cals as running it? I dont have a hrm (and the parents say no bueno to one as theyre are expensiv-io) and was wondering your intake.

    thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Jen on January 7, 2011 at 3:41 pm

Do you ever look at Mark’s Daily Apple? He’s really into Primal Fitness. Could you include some of his stuff in the Winter Shape Up? I’m trying to get away from all the long-distance stuff I used to do. I think he has some good ideas but I don’t think I can follow his plan exactly. However, I want something new and I like the idea of getting back to basics.

  16. Gill (snaxandthecity) on January 7, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Mostly I’m looking forward to being able to go for long walks by the river again – it’s just too freezing here in winter!

I actually prefer winter clothing, though – jackets, coats, scarves, mittens, ear muffs!!

  17. Leanne (For Health's Sake) on January 7, 2011 at 3:51 pm

I always get anxious about summer because I’d love to wear cute outfits but I feel like if you’re not in super amazing shape you look ugly. I hope that this year I have enough confidence and I am in good enough shape that I can wear whatever style and feel good about myself.

  18. jen @ taste life on January 7, 2011 at 3:52 pm

I can’t wait for spring! I love flowers and blooming trees and warmer temps. And spring dresses!

For the winter shape up – at home high intensity exercise ideas! I don’t have a dreadmill, so stuff I can really get my heart rate up with in my living room.

  19. Valerie on January 7, 2011 at 3:55 pm

I would really love to see some workouts that can be done at home. I don’t have a gym membership and usually try to adapt most things to home, but it would be great if some workouts were tailored for it! Thanks Gina!

  20. Brittany on January 7, 2011 at 4:05 pm

I Am looking forward to the winter shape up so much! I,m even basing the next two weeks from weeks two and three of the summer shape up to prepare for it! My favorite workouts are the weights work out for each group. They’re sooo effective!

  21. Allison @ Food For Healing on January 7, 2011 at 4:07 pm

i heart that scoop neck tank, its beautiful!
I can’t wait to not wear socks, i hate socks, i want to wear flipflops, I also hope to find some cute sundresses while in mexico for the upcoming summer.

  22. Brooke on January 7, 2011 at 4:09 pm

What do you include in your scrambled egg burrito?? Such a great idea for mornings on the run!

As far as the winter shape up goes, I’d love to see a lot of exercises to build my upper body strength. I’m looking to do the Rugged Maniac 5K race in the summer (I know, a while away), but I’m super nervous about not having enough upper body strength for the barricades! Eeek!

  23. AJ on January 7, 2011 at 4:14 pm

I love spring clothes. Summer gets a little too hot and then I feel like I just wear the same tank tops and shorts to keep cool : ). Spring is nice because you get to wear light layers and feel the glorious spring breezes and sun on your skin. Ahhhh!

  24. Donna Porter on January 7, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Fall and Winter is my favorite! I love sweaters and boots ๐Ÿ™‚ Spring..hmm..I’m looking forward to being able to look sexy in a skirt after the Winter Shape up?! Speaking of Winter shape up, I would love more of your yoga inspired workouts. The last one you posted kicked my butt…and I loved it!

  25. Dynamics on January 7, 2011 at 4:24 pm

Any exercises using the body bar?

  26. Allison on January 7, 2011 at 4:26 pm

I’d love some more yoga inspired workouts! Incorporating more yoga into my routine is one of my new years resolutions. Thanks Gina!

  27. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on January 7, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Ah don’t be showing me cute spring time clothes already! I still have 4 months of winter. I’m finally embracing my peacoat, hats and scarves!

  28. hippierunner on January 7, 2011 at 4:47 pm

Haha, my little brother calls them eggy burritos. He loves when my nana makes those for him.

  29. nicole on January 7, 2011 at 4:56 pm

I’m a spring/summertime girl, for sure. I’m already over boots and sweaters, give me sundresses! I think my clothes just tend to be cuter in the summer.

  30. Rebecca on January 7, 2011 at 4:56 pm

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include spin!! (Haha clearly I love spin classes!) I’m home for winter break and the gym at my school doesn’t have them (like what’s up with that, NYU?!) so pleaseeeee give me some guide lines so I can make my own spin class! THANK YOUUUUU!

  31. Howdy from NYC on January 7, 2011 at 5:05 pm

OMG I LOVE step!!! It’s hard to find a good class – it needs a serious revival!

  32. Heather (Heather's Dish) on January 7, 2011 at 5:07 pm

i LOVE step classes! they’re so much fun…and definitely one of those aerobics classes i thought i’d hate. i’m not too proud to admit i was wrong though ๐Ÿ˜‰ and that yellow dress? spring-y perfection!

  33. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on January 7, 2011 at 5:11 pm

I am such a spring/summer person! I hate wearing pants;)

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 5:30 pm

  35. Ilana on January 7, 2011 at 5:16 pm

I love spring clothes but I am sooooooooo not down with clogs, they’re so unflattering on the foot!! For me, less is much much more!

  39. Ilana on January 7, 2011 at 5:34 pm

ps -excited for Winter Shape Up! It starts the day after I get back from vacay and I’m feeling super motivated to get into an awesome fitness routine once I get home.

  40. Mandy on January 7, 2011 at 5:41 pm

I like to think that I’m pretty fashionable (my family calls me the “fashion police!”) but I can’t get into wearing clogs! I just don’t understand them and they seem really clunky and unnattractive, although I know they are in-style!
I’m sooo just looking forward to not “warming up” my car every morning, bundling in boots, big coats and mittens just to go outside-ugh-what a drag:)

  41. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on January 7, 2011 at 5:42 pm

I LOVE spring/summer clothes. I always look like a total bum in the winter, but once the spring and summer come up I rock the shorts and dresses and everything…I just HATE being cold, so summer and no layers are my best friend!!

  42. Kaitlin With Honey on January 7, 2011 at 5:45 pm

That yellow dress is a-dor-a-ble .

  43. Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! on January 7, 2011 at 5:50 pm

I am bundled up in sweatshirt and wool socks in my cold house in Toronto; as hard as I am trying, I can’t even fathom the thought of Spring! The outfits you pictured, though, are very cute!

  44. Katie on January 7, 2011 at 5:50 pm

I am ridiculously excited about platforms this spring. Love that yellow dress, too!

  45. Caryn on January 7, 2011 at 6:00 pm

i don’t know what all the rules and regulations are for dance trance, but if it’s allowed, could you post some sort of tutorial for a song or something? that’d be super fun! if not, no biggie. i just thought i’d ask because i might be as in love with dance-y workouts as you seem to be! ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks!

    • Fitnessista on January 8, 2011 at 10:10 am

i can’t use the actual copyrighted choreography, but i could use my own for a song and do a video ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Caryn on January 9, 2011 at 9:16 am

        that would be awesome!!!!!

  46. Christin@purplebirdblog on January 7, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Cardigan sweaters and I are true loves, so I like weather cool enough for those but warm enough not to have to wear tons of layers.

  47. Sarah (Sarah Learns) on January 7, 2011 at 6:03 pm

i guess i’m in the minority – i love winter clothes! give me boots, comfy sweaters, and adorable coats, scarves, etc.

  48. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 7, 2011 at 6:07 pm

Cute clothes! I love summery clothes and bright colors and wear flip flops year round so i definitely love summery and spring clothes but I also love a thick, chunky knit sweater that’s super cozy, too….so I am a mixture!

I hope you have a great weekend and step. Blast from the past. I havent done a Step classes in…ages! Hope you enjoyed!

    ๐Ÿ™‚

  49. christina cadden on January 7, 2011 at 6:48 pm

    Love all the clothes!

  50. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on January 7, 2011 at 6:55 pm

I totally prefer spring/summer clothes to fall/winter because there is so much more colour!! I’m looking forward to not having to bundle up every time I go outside, and to wearing something other than the blacks, grays, browns etc of winter.
