things I want to tell you

Hi friends! Hope you’re having a wonderful morning. I caught a Peloton class with Cody and recorded a new podcast interview. I hope you enjoyed the salad recipe! Please let me know if you give it a try. (Ps did anyone see A Star Is Born? I’m hoping to see it this week!)

For today’s post, we have a little bit of a brain dump. Sometimes random can be good… so here we go.

– I’ve been watching way more Queer Eye than reading books and I kinda like it like that right now.

Queer eye 1519137598

Source

They’re all equally amazing but I think Antoni is my fave and Tan is #2. But I also want Jonathan to be my BFF, Karamo to give me life advice, and Bobby to help decorate my house so there ya go.

– I’m trying to reinvent my style a bit (if I had one before?). Since I don’t have a ton of clothes here, it’s given me the chance to try out some new things and find something more cohesive. I feel like I’ve been a bit all of the place because I like so many things, but I’m trying to find a mom style if that makes sense. 🙂 I’ve been getting tons of inspo from Merrick’s Art and picked up a lot of the pieces from this capsule wardrobe post. I’ll share some pics of the good stuff soon!

– Most of the time, I feel like I’m flying by the seat of my pants. I feel like a lot of bloggers have this facade of having everything *together* and I feel guilty of occasionally doing this, as much as I try to keep it real around here. I don’t have it all together. A lot of nights I stay up until 2 or 3 putting together missing pieces of work stuff, I drive to school drop-off in my pajamas (once I had to get out of the car to help P in the backseat because she got her foot stuck in something and I wasn’t wearing shoes! You know, just hanging out in the parking lot in pajamas and no shoes), and I often feel overwhelmed by my projects and ideas. It took me a lot time to just accept that it’s just the way I am and how I operate. I thrive on procrastination, I do a lot of things not knowing what the response will be like (the struggle of working in social media), and I’m literally winging it.

The podcast and the fit guides have been exciting blog additions. It makes my heart happy to have projects that I’m so passionate about, but very often I’m a swarm of ideas with no clue how to actually execute them.

– I’ve been wanting to post about Thinx on my Friday Faves but it felt weird so I didn’t. (It felt super random no matter where I put it.) But I will say that they’re awesome and they feel like a green alternative since I don’t want to use a Diva cup anymore. (This is the main reason why… it creeps me out now.)

–  I really want to catch you up on our personal life (why the heck we up and moved to Tucson). More people have been asking, but there’s not a lot I can say until later this winter. I really appreciate your patience and understanding. I’ll tell you everything as soon as I can, I promise.

Ok, I feel a little better now. What’s something you want to say, friends? I’m here listening. <3

Also, fave member of the fab 5?

xo

These are so exciting! Sounds like a time of transition – I hope you find what you’re looking for and come out happier on the other side. Good luck with the style change (I’ve gone through at least one major shift lately, mostly inspired by Caroline at Unfancy). I’m excited for you to experiment and try new things in that area!

I also LOVE thinx so, so much! It’s weird, but I feel like they make life so easy – some days a month I just wear different underwear and take more pain reliever than others, but I don’t fight my body, have to worry about how often I’ve changed something, remember to get the right items in the right size and hope they don’t leak, etc. It takes the drama down a notch at an already dramatic time of month, and I love it. And they prevent so much plastic trash!

Anyway. I <3 you and am cheering for you in this busy, exciting, transitional time!

thank you so much, friend! i also love caroline from unfancy! she always looks so simple yet chic at the same time
happy to hear you’re a thinx fan, too! they’ve been such a gamechanger. they’re much better for the environment and so low-key to use.
thank you so much for the sweet comment. i hope you know how much i appreciate it and appreciate you being here!

All my “things to tell you” are new mom thoughts. I’m so in love with our baby boy, but I’m happy to be back to work. Being at home all day long with a newborn was tough and not for me, so now I enjoy my time with him so much more. But man, I wish money grew on trees and we could afford a night nurse. The sleep deprivation is rough (and he’s a pretty good sleeper…except from about 3-6 a.m.). Also, my boss gifted me with a smorgasboard of Reese’s PB cups (my absolute fave) upon my return to work and I ate quite a bit of them, and finally donated the rest to the office kitchen. I regret that (donating them to the kitchen) now b/c I just want to eat some Reese’s.

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2018 at 11:48 pm

i totally hear ya on that! so many of my friends with full-time jobs were happier when they got back to work. it can be lonely/isolating to be home with the baby all day and so nice to have human interaction 😉
and omg on the night nurse. i actually looked into getting one while we were in san diego (because the sleep deprivation was so rough on me) but it was like $350 a night. so i was like guess i’m going to be tired haha
looks like you need to amazon prime some reese’s 😉

I need to watch Queer Eye!! They’re taping the current season here in Kansas City so I want to get to “know everyone” before that season comes out. I’ve heard great things!

I’ve also heard great things about A Star is Born! Hoping to see it soon, too.

I’m interested to hear about all the personal life/moving stuff! I can be patient though 😉

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2018 at 11:47 pm

oh my gosh, you will love it! they’re SO fun and inspiring. every episode makes me cry little happy tears. there’s definitely a reason why they won so many emmys 🙂
hope you and your fam are doing well <3

I’ve been very curious about Thinx so very curious about your thoughts on this subject.

And yes, DYING to see A Star Is Born. Really hoping to do that this weekend.

Looking forward to hearing more about your move. Thanks for always being awesome! Love reading this blog. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2018 at 11:46 pm

let me know if you have any specific questions! i’ve loved using them so far and they’re really low maintenance
<3 thank you so much for reading and for being here

  5. Amber on October 9, 2018 at 4:57 pm

I’d really like to hear more about the Thinx, but I know it’s an awkward topic haha.

    I love Antoni too <3

I want to say I have no idea what shoes to buy my little girl. She just turned 1 and now that it's finally getting cooler here and she's almost walking, I guess I need to buy her a pair of shoes. Idk why but I'm feeling so clueless about it. I don't want to buy her something just because it's cute, but not great for walking. Any suggestions?

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2018 at 11:45 pm

let me know if you have any specific questions! they’re really easy to use and low maintenance.
check out the see kai run shoes! they were P’s first *real* walking shoes and she loved them! they have super cute low top sneakers

      • Amber on October 10, 2018 at 9:34 am

        Thanks for the shoe recommendation.

Some specific questions: do you feel like you’re sitting in moisture? Can you wear them all day? Is there a saturation point… can you tell when you’re getting there?

  6. Julia on October 9, 2018 at 10:14 pm

I have yet to watch Queer Eye, and I am waiting with bated breath till you can share your Tucson news. Because, if you live in Tucson, one day I will go to one of your fitness classes! I’m telling my self this now, because as with Barrio Bread, it takes me forever to get to these places.

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2018 at 11:44 pm

omg you need to watch it. every episode is lighthearted, hilarious and inspiring
you finally had barrio though, right?!

  7. connie on October 9, 2018 at 11:11 pm

I would also like to hear more about Thinx….like how many you need to buy/keep in rotation for your cycle, how you wash them, if you ever feel like you need to double up tampon & thinx, etc. I won’t use a reusable cup for the same reason! Fear of it “pulling” me out…sorry TMI. Is that even possible? dunno but not taking the chance.

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2018 at 11:44 pm

so i did some research after my prolapse scare and i read that women who originally had prolapse found that it came back or got worse after using the diva cup because of the suction. combine that with my scar tissue and i was like NOPE
for the thinx, i have 5 pairs which is enough to last a whole cycle. the first day or two i use a tampon for backup but that’s it! they’re amazing to sleep in and you don’t have to worry about leaks or anything
to wash them, i just put them in the washer by themselves on a rinse only cycle, then add the rest of my clothes and do a regular wash. they air dry. they’re super low maintenance

      • Connie on October 9, 2018 at 11:46 pm

Ok yea NOT interested in that…i was holding on to a couple of cups for “just in case i ever want to try again” but I’ll just go ahead and toss them now.

Very helpful on Thinx, I’m going to pull the trigger one of these days!

  8. Reghan on October 10, 2018 at 6:39 am

I’m curious about your move but I would never ask! You will share when you can. Some people think just because you’re a social media presence that you have to share every single thing…and you don’t!
I’m loving your Fitness Freak fit guide! So good and makes me look forward to my workout every day!
I want to say that I am really struggling with my career. I want to do something different and something that I love but I don’t know how to execute my ideas or how it would work out either. No one has everything together!! xoxo

  9. Meghan on October 10, 2018 at 7:19 am

I love your honestly and “realness” it has literally made me more comfortable with who I am as a person and a wife and hopefully in the future as a mom. I have read your blog since I graduated high school, I am now almost 26, I know blogging is getting less popular but I still read your blog all the time (pretty much every day). I now listen to your podcasts. The most influential thing you have every said was that life is not all about balance, its about prioritization. Thanks for everything Gina.

P.S. Your little comment pic doesn’t look like you anymore! You looked fabulous then and still do now, just in a different way:)

I need to see a Star is Born! I am sure I will leave the theater with raccoon eyes from crying but oh well! i use a cup and it is fine but I always need to use panty liners with them as the seal isn’t as reliable as I would need and *TMI alert* since I developed Hashimotos my period can be a bit unpredictable and heavy for the first 2 days. Some specific questions I had about Thinx: Are they bulky? Do they smell at the end of the day? – yuck! Do you feel “clean” while you wear them? Do they hold up over time – through multiple washes, etc? Thanks for keeping it real! I mean, how would we ever know this stuff if we didn’t have girlfriends to help us!!!

  11. Kristen on October 10, 2018 at 10:10 am

We love you! Keep doing you! (that’s why we all keep coming back every day)

  12. Jill on October 10, 2018 at 12:03 pm

Gina! I love these posts, they are my favs. I’m glad you also don’t have it as together as it seems 🙂

On my mind…. i am 10 weeks pregnant (with TWINS, holy shi****t!), and have been feeling SO sick. I’ve only told a few people, but I am struggling BAD. I can’t think about eating a vegetable, and the few times I’ve tried to work out I have nearly died. So I’m not working out now, and even walking is too much most days. I don’t feel guilty…. but I feel like I need to confess. I am praying the nausea subsides soon. Anyway, just had to tell someone…. its hard that only my mom and best friend know now.

  13. Amanda on October 10, 2018 at 1:42 pm

I saw “A Star is Born” and YES go see it! It was awesome and I was in “movie brain” all afternoon when I got home and then repeatedly watched/listened to “Shallow” on YouTube. The movie is 2 hours and 15 minutes of fantastic. Thanks for the no-update update about your personal life. In my own life I know the challenge of living that “dual life” of not talking about something big, and I’m not a blogger. 😉

  14. Alaina on October 10, 2018 at 7:31 pm

I don’t comment much, but as I just read this, I imagined you struggling…I could be completely wrong, so please disregard this message if I am…Anyhow, you don’t need to explain that you don’t always have it all together because no one does! I cannot believe how many hats you already wear…wife, Mother, blogger, pod-caster (is that word? haha), fitness instructor/planner, and still manage to do daily activities like cook healthy meals, ensure your children are raised with grace and education and even make time for special trips and girls’ nights. Do you ever feel like you are spreading yourself too thin? You must be utterly exhausted. I would have had a nervous breakdown a long time ago! Just know, you have nothing to prove and are doing an amazing, ENTERTAINING job to us listeners and blog readers <3 Hugs xo

  15. adrianna on October 10, 2018 at 10:28 pm

alright, you winging it makes for a great blog, podcast, fitness instruction, mom, wife, etc. i think you are the bomb dot com and love the honesty! seriously, i think you’re killing it no matter what happens ‘behind the scenes.’ you’re REAL. and we love it 🙂

  16. India on October 10, 2018 at 11:03 pm

Before reading this post, I went to your site and literally thought “how does she do it?”. You do so much and do appear to keep it all together quite well. Thanks for keeping it real and working so hard for us. I’m sorry you’re up so late – I hope the new ventures pay off for you. Love the blog, Gina! Thank you for writing.

  17. Jennifer on October 15, 2018 at 12:42 pm

I love Thinx! I mean you don’t have to post about it, but I feel like people need to be more open about periods! There are lots of people trying to de-stigmatize it, but uh… sometimes it is just too weird and I feel like makes it worse. lol They were perfect after having my son, it made me feel like a human being. I think I had spotting for longer period of time than most people, so it was nice not wearing a pad every-single-day for two months. And they are just comfortable, so I wear them almost every day anyways.

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2018 at 12:58 pm

yes, i totally agree that sometimes it just makes it more weird haha.
i love them, too! i only need backup for a couple of days and then i just wear thinx for 2-3 more days and done. it’s just so easy. i especially love to wear them on the day when i know i’m supposed to start my cycle and haven’t yet.

  18. Rachel on October 17, 2018 at 11:55 am

Is the prolapse the reason why you don’t want to use the diva cup or was there some inherently wrong and/or dangerous about the product itself? I ask because I’m interested in trying it. Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2018 at 1:34 pm

i have a little scar tissue from my surgery. it’s healed, but the thought of something actively pressing against it like that freaks me out. also, the cup uses suction to stay in place. i’ve read that it can make prolapse symptoms worse and as i’m getting older, i don’t think it’s smart to have anything in my body acting like a little vacuum 😉 if you’ve had no problems down there, i think it’s a great option
