{Video post} Not a costume

Halloween ended up being a fun whirlwind over here:

followed by some shopping…

A lovely day indeed 🙂

Remember last week when I said night weeks are over? Apparently it was a joke on me because the Pilot had a late night Halloween flight. I was glad that he flew instead of one of the pilots who has kids, and I just used the evening to hang out with the fam. For the holiday, many of my friends were with their husbands taking their new babies and young kids trick-or-treating (didn’t want to third-wheel it), while my other friends were out clubbing, so mom, nana and I enjoyed a girl’s night.

Breakfast of champions:

quesadilla

Egg and sliced goat cheese quesadilla with salsa

Snacks packed up to-go:

snacks

Organic GIANT grapes, an apple, and leftover sweet potato and black bean chili.

I ended up eating the fruit, but not the chili since I forgot it at the madre’s.

Conveniently, Whole Foods is on the way home and is often my post doc appt treat:

hot bar2

Chicken, miso-almond slaw, lentil and chickpea salad, chicken and a spaghetti squash pile topped with marinara. It’s funny because since we have Trader Joe’s and Sunflower Market here, I don’t go to Whole Foods nearly as much as I used to. Our bank account enjoys this greatly.

Throughout the day I also enjoyed a few mini Almond Joy’s and a Reese’s PB cup 🙂

So I was a little nervous about teaching Zumba at the high school yesterday. One of my friends who teaches choir at the school asked me to do a 5 or so dances during lunch after a flash mob that they had planned, and that they’d have a speaker set up in the dance room and one outside, so the kids at lunch could hear the music. I was nervous because high schoolers can be a tough crowd- they’re either shy, “too cool,” or will have a LOT of fun and get into it (which is the dream situation). When I taught dance back in the day, my high school hip hop girls were some of my favorites to teach. Today reminded me exactly why.

I have to give major props to the girls in the front, who came in yelling “Zumba!! ZUMBA!!!!” – their energy was fantastic.  No one had seen the dances before, or ever taken Zumba and they picked it up like pros! I was so impressed at grateful to everyone for participating.

Of course things have been dialed down a little bit (I like to get a little crazy out there), but here are a couple of videos of me teaching Zumba with a 31-week baby belly:

My fave dance right now:

A classic (just a snippet since it’s not my choreography):

Feel free to dance along!

The best part was when students came up to me afterwards to ask if my belly was a Halloween costume. They thought I was *dressed up* 🙂

About to hop on a fun Skype conference call- I’ll be sure to post the deets (and a giveaway) tonight!

See ya later with a Family post <3

xoxo

      • breakingsilence @ Freshman -15 on November 1, 2011 at 8:42 pm

It cracked me up because I work with the teenagers at my church…and they would SO say something like that. Haha.

You can MOVE IT for how preggers you are!! I’ve done the second zumba dance before and it’s awesome!!! When I did zumba there for a bit, the teacher I really liked was preggers too, but she stopped way before you – making you extra awesome 😉

  19. Diana on November 1, 2011 at 10:51 am

Your energy level at 31 weeks is amazing! At 0 weeks I’m not sure I could pull that off….

  20. Ali on November 1, 2011 at 10:51 am

  22. Kimberly on November 1, 2011 at 10:52 am

Girl you can move!! That is awesome! I just went to my first Zumba “pump” class (with the weighted batan-things), but I think I would LOVE regular Zumba! It looks like so much fun!! 🙂

  23. Jen on November 1, 2011 at 10:53 am

Good Lord girl!!!!! You can shake it with that buddha!!!!! WOW!

  24. Jessica on November 1, 2011 at 10:55 am

OMG, I cant totally see how they would think your belly is a costume, I have never seen a preggo lady have such awesome moves and high energy! You look fantastic! If these are dialed down, can you show me videos that are you at max? Holy cow, lady 🙂 Good for the school for inviting you, and good for the students! Loved the costumes as well.

  25. Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee on November 1, 2011 at 10:57 am

You go Gina! You are so cute with your preggo belly! I’m seriously impressed with your booty zumba shaking at 31 weeks!! I’m not even sure I could shake it as I am now haha.

  26. Michelle M on November 1, 2011 at 10:57 am

Way to go! I love that you can hear one of the girls yelling, “She’s pregnant! She’s pregnant!” Like she just cannot believe a pregnant woman can move like that.

  27. Christina on November 1, 2011 at 11:00 am

OMG Gina you are hysterically adorable!!! Those video’s are so funny (in a great way)!! You are seriously working harder than anyone else that’s following, move that belly! Go Gina and Baby! 🙂 Work it girl!

  28. Alycia on November 1, 2011 at 11:00 am

You and baby girl have got it going on! You are still a great teacher, and everyone looked like they were having a blast!

  29. Michelle on November 1, 2011 at 11:00 am

Ahh! Que Te Pica (sp?) was my FAVORITE zubma dance to do when I still went to classes!! Then my regular teacher quit and they hired this girl who screams at her classes all the time and likes to replace half the choreography with jumping jacks… so I stopped going. 🙂 But you look SO awesome jamming out with baby!!

  30. Emily on November 1, 2011 at 11:01 am

You’re an inspiration! My sis is teaching zumba now…gotta take more classes 🙂

  31. Lindsay on November 1, 2011 at 11:02 am

You are the zumba teacher of my dreams!! I had an awesome teacher in college, but ever since then (out in the “real world”) I always end up finding a teacher who really gears classes towards the older ladies. You get so into it!

  32. Jenna on November 1, 2011 at 11:02 am

You look so cute teaching! I couldn’t stop smiling watchin’ you break it down with your belly bump!

  44. Ashley on November 1, 2011 at 11:24 am

Wow, I thought I was pretty bad at Zumba dancing in general (I still LOVE it though!), but seeing you being pregnant and STILL being able to rock out makes me realize just how bad I am! Haha! You are so awesome and I hope that if I ever get pregnant, I can still work out as well as you! Congratulations on the little bundle of joy!

  45. Tracy @ Commit to Fit on November 1, 2011 at 11:24 am

  48. Courtney @ The Petite AthlEAT on November 1, 2011 at 11:26 am

You are such a cute Zumba-er! It almost makes me want to do it again. Almost! How do you do it with your hair down though?! YUCK! Sweat all up in my face and sticky, sweaty hair! I sweat way too much when I’m working out. 🙂

  49. Carolina on November 1, 2011 at 11:35 am

OH you are MY HERO, look at you shaking it! I must say I love the “Te pica” song and routine. You ROCK! (PS I love reading your blog)

  50. Vicki on November 1, 2011 at 11:38 am

Haha, it’s actually kind of surreal to see such a pregnant woman doing some of those moves. You look fabulous, congrats on what was clearly a great class!
