What to Say?
Hi friends <3
(Taken at Sunday’s yoga event)
How are you? Happy Indian Food Wednesday! 🙂 Hope you’re having a fabulous morning.
It was kind of challenging to write about last night’s dinner, because one of my “courses” was this:
That would be half a can of organic kidney beans, heated and eaten out of a measuring cup.
Don’t judge 😉
The rest of the meal was:
–Baked sweet tater with organic butter, sea salt and pepper (Bella had some, too- that dog LIVES for sweet potatoes)
–Baked fennel
Fennel has quickly become on of my faves. I LOVE it in a green apple and onion salad, and roasted is so lovely. I used a little grapeseed oil, sea salt, Garlic Gold and pepper.
Zumba last night was ridiculously awesome, and then I came home and called it a night. It kind of a weird night because I woke up at 4:30am ready to go, and I am not a morning person (to put it nicely). Is that a detox thing?? I had to force myself to go back to sleep!
B-fast:
(This afternoon’s post will be a juice post!)
+ baby food pureed winter squash with cinnamon, butter and raw honey
Lurvely.
I’m off to pump some iron and then get to work!
Hope you have a wonderful day and I’ll see ya later 🙂
xoxo
Gina
Something to read:
–How to Date a Vegan (take with a grain of sea salt)
–6 unconventional ab exercises
–New T Shirt Detects Air Pollution
That pureed squash combo looks great!
And thanks for those links, I’ll let my boyfriend read ‘ how to date a vegan’ 😉
That really does look like baby food. Actually, my baby eats a lot like a healthy living blogger…lots of oatmeal, pureed spinach, and sweet potatoes 🙂
The picture from your yoga event looks peaceful.
Excited to read the juice post!! Got my newest Crazy Sexy book yesterday, lovin it! I wrote a post on it this morning!
(hugs) xo
One detox question: is the butter you are using regular (=coming from cow’s milk) butter?
Then I’ll have to show the “how to date a vegan” to my rock-climbing friends 😉
yup. organic butter is actually a very healthy fat- it contains a very small amount of casein and doesn’t emit free radicals (a la olive oil) when heated
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I have a very bad relationship with cow’s dairy (stomach ache AND skin rashes) so it’s something I can just smell 🙂
I saw some goat butter somewhere in the world (maybe France?) but it’s definitely not easy to find!
I saw goat butter in a UK food magazine and am dying to get my hands on some! They have to have it in the states somewhere! 🙂
I even asked a goat farm, where I usually buy cheese and milk. Apparently, they need some sort of equipment which (I suppose) is not worth the investment. Shouldn’t be anything too complicated, a sort of centrifuge, but I think the yield is too low to be remunerative.
Sorry Gina for the off topic!
that would be AMAZING
i have probs with cow dairy too, but not butter- it’s weird.
goat butter would be way better though!
There’s nothing wrong with some simple kidney beans! 🙂
I am totally not a morning person ever–so I don’t think I’ve ever woken up early ready to go. If that’s a detox thang, then I may just have to join in! 🙂
I’ve got to be honest some of that food looks highly disgusting… what is the ultimate purpose of the detox? I really hope this works for it because I’m sure you will miss othrr foods… I love your blog so much it shows so many healthy varieties of eating and living. I am shocked that you can still keep up your regular amount of exercise and be satisfied on this. I am sooo interested in vegetable juices thoug! I’ve never tried one. Can’t wait for the afternoon post
i thought the food was really good- sorry you thought it looks gross. the fennel and sweet potato were lovely
here’s the reason behind the detox: http://fitnessista.com/2011/01/detox-my-socks/
i actually haven’t been working out as much as usual, but as soon as this thing is over, i’ll be glad to get back into my routine
I checked out the Post again! You have to do what you have to do for a healthy body! I Think it’s amazing how youre trying this and staying away from any chemicals or medicine. Good Luck to you !
I Hope in the future we get too read about a homeopathic pregnancy 😉
thats the goal 🙂
Can you elaborate on how you’re “not working out as much as normal”? Just yesterday you did a post about double dipping/working out twice in one day, you went to Zumba last night, and lifted weights this morning. That seems like a lot to me, or I guess what I would consider “normal” for you. I don’t mean any I’ll will at all. Just curious.
i ended up not going to bodypump this morning, since i’m teaching tonight. monday, i just hiked (no weights or cardio), and sunday i took off. it’s been a light week for me
Your post(s) said you did yoga on Sunday.
i did, but it was a restorative class so i counted it as active recovery. an “off” day doesn’t necessarily mean sitting on the couch all day- it’s healthy to move and sweat everyday, as long as you alternate intensities
Kudos for being honest, supportive, and polite!
Although, I’d have to say most of my food looks far less appetizing!
I’ve just discovered fennel! I made a fennel mustard recently and it is amaaaaazing on sammiches.
I have been loving fennel every since those amazing scallops w/ fennel at Foodbuzz.
Oh, and I totally eat bean straight out of the can all.the.time 😉 (no shame!)
Have you ever made fresh beans? Aka not from a can? I hear they are a ka-jillion times better tasting than their canned relatives..
Happy Wednesday! XX
they totally taste better when you use dried, but take a long time to cook
In one of your older posts you mention you aren’t a morning person and that you get your second wind at night, possibly because of the hormone probs… maybe everything the doc has you doing is working?!
that’s what i was wondering too, it was really weird!!! i got up and was like LET’S GO 🙂
I love fennel too! It is SO good roasted!
Hey nothing wrong at all with simple veggies. I’ll take any of the above foods.
I feel silly asking this but what’s the TRUE difference between sweet potatoes and yams? I know there is a difference, I’ve looked it up before. But sweet potatoes cost soo much more at the grocery store so I usually just buy yams?
I’m an early birdie (generally 5am…) but sometimes it is hard… perhaps I need this detox if one of the side effects is UP early?? 😀
hope it continues to go well – it all looks yum to me!
Ohhh I just bought some fennel from Trader Joe’s!! I have been slicing it on top of salads, as well as on a whole wheat bagel with goat cheese and smoked salmon. Yum 🙂 Your roasted version looks AMAZING, I think I will have to try that. At what temp do you set the oven?
350 for about 30 minutes
i want that kind of feeling! i might have to detox haha
i am totally wanting sweet potato now! bella has great taste.
cheers to eating meals out of a measuring cup! you do what ya gotta do, why dirty another dish right?
I think that food looks absolutely delicious, especially the sweet potato, the pudding, and the squash with honey. Yum.
I seriously could do this detox, is it weird that this all looks good to me, lol ; ) I am loving the socca in the last post too, it really looks good!
Hope you have a great day Gina!!!
I am right there with you… this food all looks and sounds fantastic to me!! 🙂
Detoxes are awesome for energy! I had some of the best runs I’ve ever had when I did mine.
And I think it can be fun to eat a random mash of courses for dinner. 🙂
That “How to Date a Vegan” thing was funny. I’m proud to say I only have one of the things mentioned on the list…a yoga mat, ha ha 🙂
Oooh I am totally going to read the veggie protein sources article because even though I’m not vegetarian, I’ve been switching out some meaty sources for plant-based ones. Thanks Gina!
love the websites. HOw to date a vegan is awesome! Happy Indian wednesday indeed.
Cheers,
LC
Oh my… the way you fixed up the sweet potato sounds and looks delicious! I might have to try that.
I’m always meaning to try fennel. Actually bought it one time and never ended up using it.
i have actually only had fennel in a couple of recipes and didn’t really love it…i’ll have to try the roasted version before i make a true judgement though!
Mmmm I love organic butter! I must ask, I have noticed your consumption of butter has gone up (or maybe you are just happening to post several meals that involved little bits of butter). Is this something to do with the hormone balancing? Curious 🙂
nope, just one of the healthy fats i’m supposed to focus on. and it tastes AMAZING
If detoxing would help me walk up at this time painlessly, maybe I should try it! I wake up most mornings at 5:30 and feel like I’ve been hit by a bus!
Hey, I had squash for breakfast too. haha
Hello~ I have a question I am sure I have missed it along the way or I am not sure if I could contact you about this. What have you been doing for your hormonal imbalance my doctor says I have the same thing and have also been experencing other female problems as well~ we are wanting to have a baby and it is not working. Also does this have anything to do with the gluten and going gluten free?
Thank you for your help~ my doctor does not seem to want to help and I am beside myself in what to do.
Heather
it does have to do with gluten and the fact that my circadian rhythm was off (i think it’s getting better though!!). my homeopath has me taking a variety of plant-based supplements
haha nice article on how to date a vegan. My boyfriend needs to read that! 😉 kidding kidding. I can’t wait to read your juicing post later! 😀
pureed winter squash with cinnamon, butter and raw honey = that sounds so good to me! it just looks and sounds warm and soothing!
the juice looks awesome too! (better you than me with juicer cleanup) 🙂
and fennel…I LOVE it! I roast mine with ginger and coconut oil or EVOO…so tasty!
I feel like I just lived a vicarious detox via your post…keep ’em coming 🙂
You really make me want to go out and buy some sweet potatoes right now!
Oh wow, I miss Zumba! I’m interested to see how you like this detox! it looks like you already have more energy! Good luck!
My pup loooooves sweet potatoes too!
I love eating out of unconventional containers:)
And I giggled at your baby foot comment, I LOVE baby food and yes it is delicious, especially banana flavor:)
That how to date a vegan post is hilarious! I’m waiting for my boyfriends response to find out if any of it is true.
I’ve never actually tried fennel, but I’ve heard it’s delicious! Maybe this post was enough to force into my shopping cart this weekend 😉
I saw someone post that your food looks gross — I think my food always looks gross! and no matter what choco-cado pudding looks like, it is still amazing because of the TASTE!
I can’t wait to see your juice post!
I just did your solo spin sesh #2 because I don’t have time to make it to my normal class this week. Holy wow! I wish you lived in Atlanta so I could take a class from you because you’re awesome. Have a great week!!! 🙂
so glad you liked it!!
LOVE atlanta too.. tell flying biscuit and seasons hello for me 🙂
Hey Gina, I am trying to subscribe to your blog via the RSS reading and it isn’t working 🙁
i know 🙁 i’m trying to find someone who can fix it!
your meals look great! I love fennel too. 🙂
Not a fan of fennel unfortunately but love alll beans!!! Yu
!
Ive never tried baked fennel. Love the idea!
Do you know a good book on the histroy of veganism?
i don’t :/ maybe gena or sarah??
I have to say – the meals seem a little random. I’d be having a tough time with the detox, for sure! How are you holding up – still think it’s ok, or ar eyou starting to struggle?
i’m struggling already. i want goat cheese, salmon and chocolate
The baked sweet potato looks sooooo delicious!
I woke up super early today too and I was definitely not ready to go. 😛 I couldn’t fall back asleep though!
All the fennel you’ve been eating lately has made me want to try it. I’ve seen a few recipes in magazines for mixed green, fennel, and citrus salads that look amazing!
I’m trying to get myself caught up on your blog. What day are you on for the 30 day detox? Is it getting hard/are you having cravings? Keep up the good work!!
i’m on day 3. and was tempted to put my entire face into a cake at my mom’s house
I still need to try roasted fennel! Thanks for reminding me 🙂 Looks so yummy. M
i love that yoga picture. looks very inviting, very peaceful, very grounding.
you know, i work for a produce company and you’d think i’d take advantage of it but we offer soo much and i dont know what to do with half of it…it’s intimidating..but fennel is something i see alot of (ordering, pricing, etc) and have been very curious. this post just gave me an idea. thanks!
I love how some people question the appeal of your food. I eat random pureed squashes and beans straight from the can all the time and think they taste delicious. Simple, whole ingredients don’t need fancy prep!
Squash roasted with coconut oil, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and stevia would be a great dessert for your detox! I love it.. Almost more than cake 😉
sounds AMAZING – i’ll have to try that next week!
