Pump it Up
Heyyyyyy How are you friends?
This morning, I munched some tea and brown rice toast:
and met up with two work friends to take a Dance Cardio class, followed by BodyPump.
Dance Cardio was a BLAST โduring โfree styleโ we took turns ambushing people by shaking and dancing around them- and BodyPumpโฆ.
owned me.
Holy hell.
Iโve been slacking a little bit in the weights department lately, and every muscle I own was trembling after class! They remembered very quickly what itโs like to burn out.
Hereโs how BodyPump goes:
-You grab a step, not for step aerobics purposes, but to lay on for chest and tricep exercises
-Youโll also need a mat and a Body bar with flat weights clipped in place. Youโll usually want to have a light and heavy one on each side so you can adjust as necessary
-Each track represents a specific muscle group. You do high reps, alternate your weights cadence and let your muscles scream for mercy. Today we did: warm up, squats, chest, shoulders, back, lunges, abs, triceps and biceps.
The verdict? I LOVED it. Itโs a great choice for people who arenโt familiar with weight lifting enough to do it on their own and the pros can bump it up by adding more weight. The fact that you can adjust the weights to suit your needs means that your muscles will keep guessing and you wonโt plateau as quickly.
The only con I can think of was that the music was ultra lame. The instructor was fabulous, but the music was groan-y.
Also, I have a gym rant of the day: fellow fitness instructors, just because someone gives you a mic does not mean that you need to sing (badly) into it. Class does not equal karaoke. Thank you.
Iโll definitely be back and can already tell Iโm going to be sooooooooo sore. Lurve.
I ate this bad johnny in the car:
-1/2 C steel-cut GF oats (Bobโs Red Mill brand)
-1 scoop Sun Warrior
-frozen organic blueberries
-Stevia, cinnamon, pinch of sea salt
-blob of almond butter
Since Iโm out and about, I packed up a beast to munch later:
-greens
-grilled wild salmon
-tomatoes
-bell pepper
-rosemary
-balsamic dressing
Perfection.
Well Iโm off to walk the puppers and then make roons. Meet me back here in the morning for a lil giveaway
xoxo

Random: Is this fix-able? Or do I need to order a new one? The strap on my Fast in Flight bag unsnapped last night while I was walking into the house and my camera went flying :/ The macro lens is now in two piecesโฆ.
Great that you liked body pump but too bad about your lens! I break things all the time, including my camera, then lens, the straps around the camera, all of my hopes and dreams of ever being a coordinated person…I can usually get the camera fixed but my only really bad lens experience I had to go get a new one ๐ but I found some cheap refurbished ones on ebay that have worked out great! (and they’re still in one piece so that’s always good haha)
Ooooh I SOOO hear you on the singing into the mic… sometimes I just have to cringe and wonder why!!
Def drives me nuts when FI sing…trying to figure out if it’s worst when they unexpectedly jump in throughout the song or sing the whole dang thing!
I think it post has convinced me to give BodyPump a try. I’ve been majorly slacking in the weights department lately so I think I need this class to kick my butt!
i would DIE doing BodyPump, but i would LOVE every second of it haha. fitness classes are always the best, they make you go past the limit you give yourself when you can go way further
BodyPump looks GREAT! I need to find a class to do it soon!
Sorry about the lens! Hope it can be fixed!
I LOOOOOOVE THE PUMP!!! I try to attend a BodyPump or Total Body Conditioning class 3X per week. I’m very ADD with lifting so following along with an instructor is way more fun for me ๐ Glad you liked it! Hope you aren’t *too* sore today ๐
I haven’t done body pump in years but I remember it being a crazy good workout! I’ll be curious to know how your muscles feel the next day.
I do all my workouts at home, since we have a treadmill and elliptical. I also have some 5-lb. free weights. But the more I hear about Body Pump, I’m so tempted to try it! By the way, the salad looks DELICIOUS!
I am glad you liked BodyPump! It is even better teaching it (i teach it 3x/week) ๐ As another comment mentioned, the class rundown is always the same (warmup, squats, chest, etc.etc.) but the music varies depending on the tracks the instructor chooses to use from the different releases (there are 76 now). I actually love Release 75 and really enjoy the great music (Hard CORE anyone?1), and am sort of guilty of singing along- but only on the chorus when I am trying to help them all get pumped ๐ I think it helps- and I actually like it when instructors get into their music/routines/etc because it makes class more enjoyable and go quicker. Hope you feel the burn tomorrow!! ๐
Glad you tried Body Pump and liked it. I’m with you about the singing too, my instructor actually puts a hat on for the tricep track because it’s a cowboy song, lol! It makes for an interesting class.
I teach BodyPump and I love it. I am a competitive bodybuilder so that is the only class I can teach, oh plus cycling. I really enjoy your blog!
Seriously? She sang into a fake mic karaoke style? I can ‘ think of a more distracting thing to witness while trying to workout! At least you were entertained! lol

I’m SO glad you like Body Pump! It’s one of my very favorite workouts! I love that it’s so easy to track progress too since the format is always the same.
Sorry about the instructor – painful.
