Needle Noodle

Hi friends! How are you? Hope youโ€™ve had a fabulous day <3 LOVED reading about how youโ€™re going to turn over a new fitness leaf ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™m a giant noodle right now.

Just got back from acupuncture and itโ€™s been sooooo long since Iโ€™ve been. We moved farther away and things have been so crazy over here, my schedule hasnโ€™t allowed the driving time + naptime. I was SO glad I finally made it today! [Also, Hi to Larry, my acupuncturist who checks out the blog from time to time ๐Ÿ™‚ Itโ€™s funny- whenever I tell people about the blog, I never expect them to actually read it. So cool. Also, if youโ€™re a U of A student, Tucson Community Acupuncture is offering free acupuncturist sessions for students, teachers and school workers next week if you want to give it a whirl]

acupuncture

Such an artist, haha ๐Ÿ˜‰

Itโ€™s funny because while I was laying there, I thought about how acupuncture would probably be on my list of things to NEVER do. It involves needles, which I despise with a fiery, undying passion, and just sounded scary. The only thing I knew about acupuncture was what I saw on Sex and the City, and I figured my life would be just fine without it. Then, after hearing such amazing things, last winter I decided to just go for it. I showed up at the clinic, by myself, so brave (haha) and loved it. [You can read about my first experience *here*]

Someone who never needs acupuncture:

bella bella (2)

Sheโ€™s always zen and balanced. Obviously.

Some eats:

lunch

White bean sundried tomato hummus

hummus

atop brown rice bread with spinach and sautรฉed balsamic mushrooms.

Snack was after acupuncture, since I *had* to stop at Whole Paycheck – I was in the neighborhood ๐Ÿ˜‰

snack

The Pilot said God put Whole Paycheck farther away from our house for a reason.

Weโ€™re off to our first birthing class! Iโ€™ll be sure to re-cap the events on the Family page ๐Ÿ˜‰

See ya in the morning!
xoxo

Gina

I’ve never tried acupuncture but I’ve heard great things…..maybe it’ll de-stress me from all of my high school hw?!? ๐Ÿ˜‰ That would be lovely! Have fun at your birthing class!

I wanted to try those chips when I saw them a few weeks ago. Let me know how they are so I know if it’s worth it. P.S. there are amazing falafel chips at Whole Foods too!

  4. Danielle on September 20, 2011 at 9:21 pm

I am with you on needles… I’ve been wanting to check out acupuncture though. Cool to know that you are afraid of needles and still enjoyed it!

haha funny comment by the pilot. WF isn’t exactly close to us either, but I always find a reason to head out there.

I’m going to my first acupuncture session next week, I’m hoping it can help with my stress levels! I just started grad school and haven’t been sleeping very well. It seems like acupuncture can address pretty much any malady. Do you have any tips for the first session? I’m assuming you tell them what’s going on in your life and what issues you would like acupuncture to help with? I’m a needle wimp too, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be okay with the itty bitty acupuncture needles.

jealous! the nearest whole foods to me is about an hour’s drive….though my husband goes to school in the same city, so it gives me a reason to tag along ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. chelsea on September 20, 2011 at 9:48 pm

Acupuncture sounds so relaxing and fun! I need to do some research into that and maybe try it out myself ๐Ÿ™‚ My mom would be deftly afraid..She passes out at the site of needles or goes into a hysterical fit.

  12. Running Betty on September 20, 2011 at 9:51 pm

I made white bean hummus today too! And I put it in a whole wheat pita with romaine lettuce and some of this: http://www.birdseye.com/vegetable-products/steamfresh-pure-simple-blends/pepper-stir-fry.

I love acupuncture! We actually took my dog last week…my acupuncturist does animals! Sam ( the dog) has bad separation anxiety and HATES skateboards, so we thought it might mellow him out. It worked wonders! He did not feel the needles and was very, very calm afterwards and for the next few days. I wish I could show you the picture!

my closest whole foods is a 4 min bike ride away. I am always in trouble from the husband. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on September 20, 2011 at 10:27 pm

Whole Foods always happens to me too! I blogged about it today as well! I am happy that you got to have a needle nap, most likely much needed for you! I wish you well in your class tonight.

  17. Suzanne on September 20, 2011 at 10:35 pm

I don’t have any comments regarding acupuncture since I’ve never tried it….a little scared!

But, I just wanted to tell you that I just finished my first Turbofire workout tonight!
You turned me onto it, and since I love Zumba….I loved this!
I am still feeling revved up. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks for the recommendation!

I love acupuncture! I never thought I would because growing up my mom would always get it done and come back home with those weird suction cup bruise mark looking things all over her back and it would weird me out. But when I was home in Korea in 2009 I got it done because my mom claimed it would help with headaches and fertility and I went just to amuse her and I ended up LOVING how amazing I felt afterwards. And coincidentally, I don’t have anymore headaches haha.

  19. Rachel on September 20, 2011 at 10:45 pm

I have 3 Whole Paychecks within a 20 miute drive. It takes all my willpower not to blow my budget there daily. Have a great time at birthing class!

  20. Sara @ RunnerWife on September 20, 2011 at 10:46 pm

I am so jealous! We don’t have not have whole foods around here and the closet one is probably 2 hours away in Pittsburgh. I have never tried accupuncture, but my husband has had it when he had a stress fracture in his back! He said it was differentโ€ฆbut he didn’t notice much difference from it.

  21. Ali @ Peaches and Football on September 20, 2011 at 10:56 pm

LOL to the pilot. Tell him you can spend money at whole foods on healthy nutrition or blow it all on more purses. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! on September 20, 2011 at 11:38 pm

I’ve never tried acupuncture but I’m strongly considering it to see if it would helP with my headaches! I’m pretty nervous!

  23. Allison on September 21, 2011 at 6:51 am

Mmm, I love sauteed mushroom but never have added balsamic, great idea!

  24. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 21, 2011 at 7:16 am

Can’t wait to hear what you think about the birthing class. I think you guys are doing Bradley? Hope you like it. I have friends who loved it and swore by it. I didn’t do any “method” per se. I just took deep breaths, sat in the corner, and told everyone to just leave me alone! They did, it worked, and I was happy; and Skylar made her entrance ๐Ÿ™‚

Those sweet tater chips look delish!

  25. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 21, 2011 at 7:58 am

That hummus looks delicious… It would taste amazing on a pita pizza with marinated artichokes, black olives and feta cheese. Mmm I think I need to make it now!

Hi, I have kind of an off the wall question. I notice you wear a lot of Lululemon and I really want to purchase some but the sizes are throwing me off. I’m about your size so I was just wondering what size you were their tanks/bottoms? Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on September 21, 2011 at 10:32 am

      i wear a 6 in tops and a 4 or a 6 in bottoms ๐Ÿ™‚ hope this helps a little! xs 2-4, sm 4-6, med 8, lg 10, xl 12

  27. Rebekah W on September 21, 2011 at 8:26 am

Hi Gina! I have a random question for you. I just recently got my bangs cut similar to yours, but I am having trouble styling them so they look even. It always seems like one side gets weirdly wavy and the other side is stick straight. What products/styling tool do you use? I know your Mom is a stylist so you inheirited all her secrets! Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on September 21, 2011 at 10:31 am

i use a straightener, and to straighten them, i grab vertical sections and pull it away from my face- quickly run the straightener over each section. hope this helps a little!

      • Rebekah W on September 21, 2011 at 3:23 pm

I will have to try that when I get home. Thanks Gina!

  28. Sarah on September 21, 2011 at 8:59 am

I definitely live walking distance from the Whole Paycheck on Speedway, and it definitely is taking a toll on my J Crew fund, the place I donate my extra cash moneys every month.

I haven’t let myself buy a Kombucha there yet… I have to draw the line somewhere and 3.79 a bottle seems like a good place to draw it.

Apparently Sunflower is pretty kick butt, though?! I’ve been there once, but I really prefer to do all my real shopping at TJs.

  29. Natasha on September 21, 2011 at 9:07 am

Hi Gina – Hope your feelin’ good – and baby is not doing belly aerobics too much!

Random question – my Boyfriend and I have an appointment to see a jeweler on Sat. – I loved your solitare…did your hubby get your input? And if so…I hate to ask you – but what is the carat weight of your beautiful ring? Did you find a CZ that you like yet to wear in the interim?

Whew – I’m hoggin’ all the space here! Hope you liked the recipe I sent, and I “created” one last night – will send it along as soon…

    – Natasha

    • Fitnessista on September 21, 2011 at 10:29 am

i feel weird saying what the total weight of my ring is on here, but i definitely had some input on the style ๐Ÿ™‚ i didn’t find a cz to wear in the meantime

  30. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on September 21, 2011 at 9:13 am

Okay, this is probably a silly question, but how did you make those balsamic mushrooms? They look fantastic!

    • Fitnessista on September 21, 2011 at 10:28 am

just sauteed in a little olive oil on medium heat and added a splash of balsamic- took about 7 minutes or so ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. April on September 21, 2011 at 10:54 am

Glad you got back to acu!!!! I actually had my appt last night too:) Sooo…did the little one move a lot during the session? Mine loves it:)

  32. Beth (Well I'll Be) on September 21, 2011 at 10:58 am

That hummus looks so good! I love those varieties made with white beans vs. chickpeas. Do you still use yogurt in the recipe or are you subbing something these days?

  33. Felicia (Natural + Balanced) on September 21, 2011 at 11:02 am

yay acupuncture! keep promoting the good stuff – it works wonders. by the way did you know it can help with delivery – pain and/or labor issues? and that there’s a point to turn a breech baby if you were ever in that situation? its on the pinky toe haha random, but true! crazy
i cant wait to open a practice..if your ever in upstate NY you’ll know where to go ๐Ÿ™‚ by the way, the roons were gone in record time. just saying! thanks again ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey Gina, I’m seriously considering trying acupuncture but am also totally needlephobic (think hyperventilated and trying not to burst into tears during my last blood test).. What aside from general relaxation, etc did you get from acupuncture? Everyone always just says it’s pleasant or “works well”… On what? I want the deets ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on September 21, 2011 at 9:16 pm

i really think it helped fix my hormone imbalance, helped with stress and sleeping better through the night

I love acupuncture! It is seriously one of the best things that I have done. The first time I went I had the most wild and crazy dreams (if you can call them that), just in and out of it. I am so hooked that I go about twice a week (also trying to fix some womanly problems). It also helps to go to a community based clinic that offers a sliding scale pay system.

    Hummus looks delish!

    • Fitnessista on September 21, 2011 at 9:14 pm

ours has a sliding pay system too.. i love it! otherwise, i wouldn’t be able to go to a regular clinic as often

  39. Brigid on September 21, 2011 at 7:43 pm

I’ve done acupuncture twice, as part of a desperate attempt to deal with my migraines, and I really love it. I’m a huge, huge needle wimp, too (either cry hysterically, hyperventilate or pass out — yikes), but it’s not at all like getting a shot. I probably need to go regularly in order to get migraine relief, but it has totally helped with my lady time. It’s kind of unbelievable, in fact. I’m off to search for a place to try in my new home state. Thanks for the reminder!

  40. Katy @ HaveYouHurd on September 22, 2011 at 11:19 am

I made white been dip the other day with sundried tomatoes too! I basically made it exactly like hummus but with white beans. I didn’t use greek yogurt like in your recipe, but I might try that! I LOVE SUNDRIED TOMATOES! Do you have any other recipes you love that use them?

    • Fitnessista on September 22, 2011 at 11:37 am

not really *recipes* but i love them on salads, pasta and pizza ๐Ÿ™‚
