Oh, pumpkin tree

Hi friends! How’s the day going? I’m so happy you’re excited about the White Plum giveaway. It’s a great one, so be sure to get your entries in there. 🙂

Oh pumpkin tree, oh pumpkin tree, how beautiful your…

squashes? Tomatoes? What are those things? (I just googled and they’re Japanese pumpkin branches. Not sure if they’re edible but I wouldn’t try it haha.)

This weekend was a lot of fun, but went by way too quickly. Friday afternoon, Livi and I put together an impulse purchase from Target: Candy Corn cookies!

She is really into baking and cooking right now -each time I’m in the kitchen, she asks for a chair so she can stand close by and help- and when she picked these out at Target, the anti-food-dye portion of my brain was saying “noooooo,” the “let’s make a fun memory” part put the box in the shopping cart.

She was so proud with how well they came out, and they tasted pretty delicious. 🙂

Friday night was at OB Noodle House!

I almost always get the pho, but since it’s been so hot and muggy, I wasn’t quite in the soup mood.

We also shared the vegetarian spring rolls (amazing), and wandered down the street to Hungry Lu’s for dessert.

After Livi’s ballet class on Saturday, she had a Fairy Yoga Tea party at the yoga studio. They inject so much play and imagination into yoga, and each class has a theme. For example, if it’s a jungle theme, the kids pretend to be monkeys and pick bananas during Warrior 2, and slither and hiss like snakes in cobra pose. I think that learning how to take deep breaths and be present is so important for littles. After their savasana (which includes an oil head massage and lotion foot massage), they go around the room and say how they feel, which usually ranges from “I feel happy.” “I feel peaceful.” or “I feel kind.” The fairy yoga party was a special event, so they made headbands and wands, got their own fairy wings, and had a tea party lunch with butterfly-shaped sandwiches, pouches and pink lemonade. It was pretty adorable.

Brunch was at Cafe 976 in PB, which is one of my favorite writing spots. They have a full breakfast menu, acai bowls, and any coffee drink you could wish for.

The patio is surrounded by lush trees and potted plants, while the food is prepared in a 100-year-old house.

100 years is also the approximate time it takes to get your food, so definitely go for a more leisurely brunch (which is what we were planning for). 😉

Workout-wise, I took it pretty easy. When the sun started to go down and things cooled off a bit, I went for a long walk at Mission.

Not a bad view, eh?

Walk at mission 2

I’ve been listening to “Why Not Me?” by Mindy Kaling on Audible (LOVING it), and brought it along, but ended up not listening to anything. It was so peaceful to simply walk, enjoy the sea breeze, and people-watch. A group of inebriated dudes on their patio asked if I was trying to walk my baby out. When I said “Absolutely,” they were like “Yeahhhh!” and raised their beers to me. You can’t get that at the gym haha.

Saturday I took off, and yesterday was the Yoga Fix workout from 21dayfix (recap coming this week!).

Hope you had a great weekend, too.

See ya in the morning!

  1. Do you take your wedding bands off to work out? (I noticed they are off in the coffee pic)
I always debate this.. don’t want to hurt them but also don’t want to risk losing.

    • I totally understand the predicament! I always forget to put them back on if I take them off… I inherited my mom’s engagement ring and I don’t know what I’d do if I lost it!

    • Fitnessista says:

i can’t wear them right now because my hands are too swollen :/ usually i leave them at home if i’m going to do any type of strength training. for cardio or barre, i’ll usually leave them on

    • queenoffitness says:

I never, ever wear my rings while exercising. I’m just too big of a klutz that i will likely injure myself by impaling my own face with my rings, even in a cardio class. plus, my finger feels too constricted when my body gets hot and sweaty. my rings stay safe and sound at home!

    • A friend of mine has a locket ring holder necklace she wears on days she works out and loves it. I think they are pretty popular on etsy.

  2. hahah I love “supportive” cat callers. I was once asked if i had a boyfriend, and when i responded yes, the guy said “does he treat you good?” I said, yes yes he does. He said “Well alright then. Have a good day!” not at all what I was expecting hahah

  3. This time of year… all the way until Christmas, is my favorite! All of the decorating and good vibes just keep me going. I love the pumpkin tree! I cannot wait to see what Halloween is like for your family!

  4. Some really neat places to eat there. Actually SD is on my list to visit soon.
    I love all the walking.

I made your salmon recipe from a few weeks ago and it turned out really well. Yummy!! Thanks for sharing the recipe. Have a great evening.

  5. Is the pumpkin tree from Trader Joe’s? When we were there last week, the first thing I said walking in was…ooh, is that a pumpkin tree?…and hubs thought I’d lost it. Ended up getting flowers for the weekend instead, but yours looks so cute, maybe I’ll get one next trip. Wonder how they’ll last?

  6. I so miss walking by the beach. If only AZ, had beaches.

  7. Haha the drunk dude story made me laugh! I’d love to walk along an ocean right now!

  8. Hello.

I have been reading many of your previous pregnancy blog posts and I love them because now that I am pregnant myself (20 weeks) I can totally relate. Judging from the photos you’ve shared, our bumps could be twins. Although pregnancy should be such a beautiful time in a woman’s life, I’ve had a lot of concerns about how big I showed at such an early stage. Comments such as, “You’re so BIG!” and “I didn’t show until after 6 months.” and “Are you carrying twins?” certainly don’t help. So it’s nice to see another woman that carries a bit higher and shows a FULL round belly. Now I don’t feel like such the odd woman out 😉 Thanks for sharing and I hope you are able to enjoy what is left of your pregnancy journey.

  9. I saw those pumpkin tree things at Trader Joe’s and had no idea what they were either!

  10. 976!!!! I miss that place.

I’m 3 days overdue and had the cutest old man come up to me in the grocery store and say “are we having a baby????”, yes sir we are!

  12. I wish I could go to Liv’s yoga studio! Sounds like so much fun!

How’s Mindy Kaling’s book? I have it on my kindle and I’m excited to read it!

  13. Fairy yoga sounds right up my alley. I want to do that, too!

  14. I like the guys who toasted you. That’s cute. (As long as it didn’t bother you, that is!) 🙂
