20 random things

Hi friends! It’s been an amazing day of exploring, relaxing (um, I might have napped for 3 hours) and meeting up with friends. I was so excited to finally meet Johnice fromย Reebok, Kelli, who works for IDEA, Kasey (+ her cute mom!) and hang out with my the lovely Julie again.

I love reading random facts posts from fellow bloggers, and figured it would be a fun post for today since it was a traveling day.

Here are some random things that came to my brain:

I used to dress Bella up in dresses, bows and T-shirts when I was in college. She forgives me.

My favorite classes to teach are Zumba, barre and any type of dance class (World Beat or DJ dance). Even though I love them, and have been teaching for a while -5 years fitness, taught dance classes for 7 years before that- I still get nervous every.time. My work friends laugh at me because I pretty much have a panic attack before every DJ Dance or World Beat class even though they always end up being fine. The class I love to take the most: yoga.

My favorite yoga pose is dancer pose, but I’m starting to get stronger at arm balances, which I also enjoy.

Desert yoga 1 of 1

I love pulling weeds.

Contrary to what my site may suggest, my favorite color is purple.

My favorite piece of jewelry is the “O” necklace Livi and the Pilot gave me for Christmas. I can’t wait to give Livi the promise ring her dad gave me when we were in college.

I could eat egg burritos with salsa for every meal.

I’m not a great swimmer. Of course, I wouldn’t drown in open water -I can doggy-paddle like a champ- but it’s not something I care about improving. I’ll enroll Livi in swimming lessons, just so she knows how to swim and she loves the water, but if she decides she’d rather be a “float on a noodle” kinda girl like her mama, that’s cool too.

Ventana pool

My favorite date nights are wine nights at fun restaurants with the Pilot. I like parties, too, but enjoy small gatherings even more.

I let my hair air-dry as much as possible, because then I use the curling iron to make waves and smooth it out. I like to think that letting it dry naturally and then heat-styling the heck out of it cancels each other out ๐Ÿ˜‰

Whenever I feel tested to the max, I try to imagine what nana would do. She has enough patience for 10 people.

When I was little, a German Shepherd bit me in the face. I was trying to give it a hug -I was 3 or 4?- and its teeth went through my cheek. I have a V-shaped scar on the left side of my chin from the attack. The only other times I had stitches was when I fell and broke my nose.

When Kyle and I were in day care, the “big kids” and the “little kids” were separated by a gate. I would sit by the gate and hold his hand underneath. We still talk/joke about it and have been best friends since we were little.

I feel like I was supposed to live in NYC.

Timessquare

Non-chocoately desserts are usually just “ok.”

The Pilot and I met at Starbucks, which many of you already know. Since then, we love to go to that same Starbucks for afternoon jolts of coffee dates.

The day I had Livi was the most challenging and best day of my life. I’ve never felt my true limits, the kind of unconditional support from my husband and family, or so much love in my heart all at the same time.

Sometimes I think I miss singing/dancing/performing, but the Sing! app is just as fun ๐Ÿ˜‰ The Pilot can destroy me on a couple of songs, too, which is amazing.

Speaking of voices, only the family/Pilot knows the high-pitched insanity that ensues when I’m talking to the dogs.

This morningโ€ฆafternoonโ€ฆ I had the best breakfast sandwich of my life. It was totally vegan, savory, and topped with the slightest bit of maple syrup. I can’t wait to recreate it at home.

Ok, friends. Your turn!

If you could live ANYWHERE, where would you pick?

Meal you could eat every day?ย

and anything else random you’d like to share! I always love hearing your stories and learning more about all of you <3

Have a great night.

xoxo

Gina

I live in Japan, and love it, but like every ex-pat, I dream of moving home, until I visit and remember why I love where I live! If I could live anywhere, I’d live in a little cottage in France, and eat cheese with every meal! Although, for now, my Japanese adventures are keeping me busy!

  2. Liz on August 8, 2013 at 8:08 am

I think I am supposed to live in Atlanta, Georgia. I have no idea why, but when I think about where I want to be in 5 years, Atlanta is the place my heart goes!

The 1 food that I can (and do eat) every day is oatmeal. It is the perfect food and fills me up ๐Ÿ™‚
But if we’re splurging every day, I would choose french toast. Every day!

    • Sarah on August 8, 2013 at 10:49 pm

Yay! I live in Georgia (about 1 hour out of Atlanta.) It’s AWESOME here :)) I moved here 1 1/2 years ago from Southern California (born & raised), and will never look back. I highly recommend it. I cannot say enough great things about it. Let me know if you have any questions…. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Patricia B. on August 8, 2013 at 8:20 am

I could definitely eat pizza every day!
If I could live anywhere it would be anywhere by a lake. I would love waking up to the view of the water everyday!

  4. Ashley C. on August 8, 2013 at 8:30 am

If I could live anywherenitnwould be close to my family and friends so I wasn’t driving hours upon hours to see them!

And I could eat Mexican food, all day, everyday!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Cassie Vaughn on August 8, 2013 at 8:35 am

I’m in Nashville. Right now I’m obsessed with avocado smushed on a toasted pita and scrambled eggs on top. Yum.

  6. Haley on August 8, 2013 at 8:45 am

I also met my man in a Starbucks! And I also used to dress my little dogs up, I had an entire wardrobe for them…. But the random facts thing is very fun! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Ksenija @ Health Ninja on August 8, 2013 at 9:20 am

Oatmeal, I mean, who wouldn’t eat oatmeal every day. If I think about it I could actually eat it every single meal… it just never gets boring.

Hahaha, and I use the exact same logic when it comes to hair styling – air-drying and than using the iron to smooth it out. Hilarious how similar women justify their bad habits.

  8. Lauren on August 8, 2013 at 9:22 am

I would love to live in Chicago! I hold a special place in my heart for the Windy City ๐Ÿ™‚

The one food I could eat everyday (and for every meal) is oatmeal. Keeps me full and happy!

  9. Melissa @TryingtoHeal on August 8, 2013 at 9:28 am

I want to live in Australia!!! The jungle there is amazing!!!

  10. Ashley V on August 8, 2013 at 9:38 am

Cassie, I’m in Nashville too! I’m not sure where I’d pick specifically, but I’d love to live overseas, somewhere with a gorgeous countryside. I’m not a beachy person-I love mountains and grassy hills…that kind of thing. I’m contemplating leaving Nashville, but I just don’t know how to choose my landing place! Who wants to decide for me? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Tessa on August 9, 2013 at 4:33 pm

I am in Nashville too! I am trying to decide where I want to go next as well. There are so many awesome cities. I am thinking about Austin. My boyfriend and I might move there one day.

      • Ashley V on August 10, 2013 at 6:05 pm

Oddly enough, Austin has crossed my mind as well! I’m just starting thinking about places, and I just don’t know how to go about deciding. I’m single, so it’s all up to me, and I’m the worst at making decisions!

  11. Jenn on August 8, 2013 at 9:52 am

I would love to live somewhere that the temps are never above 73 degrees!
I could eat egg, mushroom, spinach, hot sauce, feta omelets every.day!

  12. Jennifer on August 8, 2013 at 10:13 am

If I could live anywhere it would be without Winters. I am from Canada and our winters are the worst! I could deal with sun and warmth 12 months of the year!

One meal I could eat every day would be gluten free pizza with lots of goat cheese, spinach, chicken and sundried tomatoes. Yum!

  13. April on August 8, 2013 at 10:14 am

Well, i moved to Boston from LA cuz i knew i had to live on the East Coast – and it’s been 10 Years!!!!! So, now i think i need to live in the Virgin Islands, but not forever, just for a little while!

I could eat an egg in a tortilla with salsa and guac EVERY day for the rest of my life!

Love this, what a fun idea!

  14. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on August 8, 2013 at 10:22 am

I love this! Though terrifying that you were bitten by a dog so little!!

If I could live anywhere I would live in Cambridge, UK. Though maybe I only say that because I’m moving there in two and a half weeks ๐Ÿ˜›

  15. Kristen on August 8, 2013 at 10:33 am

I live in wisconsin and love it! But i wish getting to and from hawaii was free and fast. The feeling of being in Kauai on my honeymoon was undescribable.

I pretty much eat oatmeal everyday for breakfast at work. Ive been trying to switch is up, but today I’m back to the same old ๐Ÿ™‚

    Loved this post, btw ๐Ÿ˜€

  16. Christina on August 8, 2013 at 10:37 am

My heart is in New York for sure!! Cheeseburgers, cooked on the grill.

  17. Emily on August 8, 2013 at 10:41 am

The OCD in me had to go back and count to make sure there were 20 facts since you didn’t number them ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. Erin (Running Tall) on August 8, 2013 at 11:04 am

OMG the story about you and Kyle is too adorable!

If I could live anywhere, it would be Hawaii. Beach, ocean, wilderness, laid back lifestyle, warm weather…..take me there!

A meal I could eat everyday…probably salmon with spinach salad. I’m that weirdo who never gets tired of spinach and salmon is just the bomb.com.

  19. Jen on August 8, 2013 at 11:06 am

Italy, bagel with cream cheese and veggies sandwich style!

  20. Jessica @ My Tasty Theatrical Life on August 8, 2013 at 11:19 am

I would live in NYC or Florence, Italy!! New York is amazing but I would want to live there in style so I need to win the lottery ๐Ÿ˜› Florence is the most beautiful place in the world. I could eat in Florence all day every day. One of the best things I had that I could eat everyday was a small Panino from GustaPanino! My favorite is Pesto, Buffalo Mozzarella and Tomato. YUM! They also use boar meat for their meat sauce which is unreal.
Iced Soy Chai Latte’s are so delicious! I love them.
I would be having living in a world covered in purple.
When I was little, a goose bit my butt at Valley Forge. I am still absolutely terrified of them.

  21. Andrea @ The Fit Scoop on August 8, 2013 at 11:29 am

I would live in London. I love it there!
It seems like there are lots of fellow oatmeal lovers out there – I too can (and do) eat it every day, but I have to have it with a glass of milk. If I am out of milk I have to eat something else – weird, no? What’s even weirder is that I really disliked milk as a child but love it now – ha!
I love this post! Random unknown fact about me – I went to law school and practiced law for a year before deciding my true passion was in health and fitness and I went back to school for an MPH.

  22. Priya on August 8, 2013 at 11:34 am

liveanywhere? id live everywhere ๐Ÿ™‚ i LOVE traveling, my favorite so far are london, englkand & pretoro, italy.

eat something…. oh my….. berries, dal, kale/chard…. SALSA! and greeen bell peppers ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Kelly on August 8, 2013 at 11:36 am

I think if I could live anywhere it would be either the Caribean side of Mexico or Sienna, Italy. I’d want it to be somewhere where I could have fresh produce more often than not (I live in Minnesota! Nuf said!) Something I could eat everyday is good quality appetizers or tapas food with wine.

  24. Jennifer on August 8, 2013 at 11:37 am

I could eat spaghetti w/ meat sauce and breakfast burritos every day! I think I am supposed to live in Portland, Maine. Today I did a power yoga class at 6:15 a.m. that kicked my patootie.
Have a safe and fun trip, Gina!

  25. Stacey on August 8, 2013 at 11:46 am

I could eat salmon all day every day. Love. It.

I currently live in Iowa and while I love our 4 seasons, I’d like to live somewhere out east. They have such beautiful history there; old buildings and colleges. This way I’d keep my 4 seaons but get more historic value too. Somewhere like Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts.

  26. Priya on August 8, 2013 at 11:50 am

oh and my favorite color is PURPLE! and BLACK! seriously, i own so many black clothes. and socks. i have a sock obsession

  27. Tom T. on August 8, 2013 at 11:50 am

If I could live anywhere it would be in the Northwest, northern Cali, Oregon or Washington state. But for now we are close to family and I am happy right her in the C-Bus (Columbus Ohio for those of you who don’t know)

Sadly, the meal I could eat every day would be pizza. You can do it so many different ways its great, just not that good for you. That’s the sadly part.

  28. Stephanie on August 8, 2013 at 11:51 am

Italy! I studied abroad in Siena and absolutely fell in love with the lifestyle and culture. While the food there is nothing short of amazing, I’d say the meal that I could eat every day is Thai curry….nom nom.

  29. Katie on August 8, 2013 at 11:53 am

Oh my gosh, totally teared up at the thought of you and your brother holding hands under the gate. What a sweet older brother! Also, I’m pregnant and emotional ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Katie on August 8, 2013 at 11:55 am

I don’t know if I could eat the same thing everyday…I love variety! I do eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches with a glass of skim milk pretty dang often though. Its the prefect all times of the day meal! I love Decatur, GA! It’s a super walkable town, only a few miles from downtown ATL, and it has amazing “foodie” type restaurants!

  31. Liz @ Southern Charm on August 8, 2013 at 11:56 am

If I could live anywhere … in LA … but the beach.

And meal … hmmmm. I’d say either Pineapple Apple Mint juice or plain sliced chicken and avocado. So weird, but I love them both!!

  32. april on August 8, 2013 at 12:00 pm

i studied abroad in rome and would be so happy living there again. i made some of the best memories there… not to mention, the gelato is to die for. ๐Ÿ˜‰

i could (and usually do) eat eggs every.single.day. i love making egg/spinach/avocado wraps, but really, eggs in any form are fantastic!

  33. Ashley Figur on August 8, 2013 at 12:48 pm

I’m from Austin, Texas! But if I could live anywhere it would have to be by the beach or a lake somewhere exotic. I think its so beautiful and comforting to have the waves right outside your door—plus it would make for fun morning jogs/runs ๐Ÿ˜‰ The food that I could eat everyday would have to be a healthy version of a breakfast taco or protein pancakes with peanut butter and bananas! Loved this post.

  34. Anna @ Fitness ร  la Anna on August 8, 2013 at 1:17 pm

I love when bloggers do these posts ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s so fun to hear random facts! I find it surprising, but kind of comforting, that you still feel nervous before teaching your dance classes – I’m sure it makes you work that much harder and makes it that much more awesome!

  35. Maria@The_Brooklyn_Fig on August 8, 2013 at 1:28 pm

This was so great Gina, I feel like I really got to know you more from these random facts!
So cute about you and your brother holding hands!

  36. Tracy on August 8, 2013 at 2:02 pm

I have to eat some kind of nut butter every day. I would take a couple large spoonfuls of almond butter over dessert any day!

  37. Caitie @ twentytwofit on August 8, 2013 at 2:09 pm

I am currently living in the Pacific Northwest and would choose over anywhere else BUT if I had to choose another area, definitely Chicago. Love all the brick and history there ๐Ÿ™‚

I could eat breakfast for every meal! Eggs, turkey bacon, fruit, and any number of healthy “pancakes”…this girl is SOLD. My guy and I end up eating breakfast for dinner more often than not!

  38. Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind on August 8, 2013 at 6:32 pm

I’d live where I do now, San Francisco!

I could eat Mexican for every.single.meal.

I’m curious as to why you feel like you’re meant for NYC?

  39. Gaby - Toronto personal trainer on August 8, 2013 at 6:53 pm

I’d live near where family and friends are but I think I can always make friends with anyone should I consider living in a new place.

  40. Kt on August 8, 2013 at 7:16 pm

Oh this is fun! I would most want to live in Vancouver, BC, which is where I do live, and eat aged cheddar cheese every day. And fresh pineapple.

  41. Becca @ familyfaithfitness on August 8, 2013 at 7:23 pm

Oatmeal with peanut butter… and plenty of it! ๐Ÿ™‚ That would be my everyday meal… I would LOVE to live somewhere like AZ!! “perfect” weather year round! ๐Ÿ˜€

  42. kyla on August 8, 2013 at 8:13 pm

Nashville, TN! I just clicked with it and feel like I am “suppose” to live there.

  43. Sarah on August 8, 2013 at 11:08 pm

You & your brother holding hands under the day-care gate: I’m dying. I really hope someone snapped a picture of that sweet moment in time!

I am truly living in the place that was meant for my spirit: The South. But, I love and miss the Pacific Ocean. I am a beachy girl for sure. My dream place… hmm…Santorini, Greece or Fiji Islands, or Barcelona, Spain (my Daddy played soccer there when I was young.)

Food I could eat every day: Whole-wheat toast topped with mashed avocado, & sprinkled with red-pepper flakes. Try it. It’s addicting.

I too am pondering why you’d choose NYC? It seems the opposite of your personality – You strike me as a Zen, calm-loving person, who’s a self-professed introvert. NYC is so loud and chaotic, with a bazillion people. Opposites attract??

  44. Liz on August 8, 2013 at 11:49 pm

    Hey Gina!

I found your NYC comment funny because I actually just moved from NYC to Tucson just over a week ago! I’m thankful for my years in NYC, but I was ready for a change and I am loving Tucson thus far ๐Ÿ™‚

I was actually wondering whether you have any Tucson fitness advice that you could share! I heard good things about Yoga Oasis from my studio back in NYC (more specifically about the instructor Darren Rhodes), but that’s about it.

I will be able to do basic treadmill-type cardio at the U of A gym (I will be a grad student there), but I love group fitness classes (Zumba, etc) and would like to find some good options in the area! You don’t happen to do personal training or teach group classes at all outside of the resort where you work, do you? I just thought I’d ask ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you so much for your input!

    • Fitnessista on August 9, 2013 at 2:18 am

welcome to tucson! i’ve taken darren’s classes often, and he’s incredible, as you’ve probably heard! if you want to email me and let me know what side of town you are, i can give you some other recommendations!
for group fitness, come to breakout studios! i’m teaching zumba with sasha there next week if you want to come check it out ๐Ÿ™‚
      xo

  45. Alexandria Ayres on August 9, 2013 at 8:13 am

We must be soul mates ๐Ÿ˜‰ JK but I love pulling weeds & was also bite by a German Shepard in the cheek/top lip area when I was 3 or 4 years old.

I LOVE NYC but don’t think I could ever live there unless I was a millionaire!
I could eat eggs with hot sauce & a slice of Cuban toast every day if I had to!

  46. Lulu on August 9, 2013 at 8:51 am

I’m not sure where I would live yet, but definitely am sure about the meal. It consists of the following: sweet potatoes/purple yams, stir-fryed greens, eggs, bananas, almond milk and butter, lots of berries, quinoa. These are random combinations, but I’d be happy to devour it all!~

  47. char eats greens on August 9, 2013 at 9:48 am

I love Sarasota; especially if we moved for hubby’s (golf) work. That’s where I would pick! Love the idea that you visit the Starbs where you met!!

  48. sara on August 9, 2013 at 10:00 am

*sigh* Gina. You are totally awesome. I try not to compare my life with others on social media/blogs, but I totally wish my life could be as exciting and put together and as rich in experiences as yours. It doesn’t help that you’re, like, totally gorgeous. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I hope I didn’t make you feel weird, I just wanted to let you know I appreciate you and you make me want to be a better person and improve my life everyday!

  49. Chelsa on August 9, 2013 at 10:26 am

I’d love to live in NYC too. I think most people feel that way at least just a little bit. I’m lucky enough to only live an hour away, so I’ll take it ๐Ÿ™‚

  50. Brianna K. @ Hungry Gator Gal on August 9, 2013 at 12:19 pm

I could eat your breakfast cookie dough cereal every day! I think I have it at least four times per week, but I don’t care. It’s just too tasty! ๐Ÿ™‚
