The Next Victim…

Hey everyone! Hope youโ€™re having a great night ๐Ÿ˜€ This have been bueno over hereโ€ฆ the usual insanity followed by a lovely dose of Greyโ€™s Anatomy.

Lunch was a burger and fries:

burger

Not your typical Mickey Dโ€™s though ๐Ÿ˜‰

That mix was a Wild Alaskan salmon burger smothered with Organicville BBQ sauce with 1/2 butternut squash in fry form.

I had quite a few training appointments, then came home for an energy boost before going back to the gym for a cardio sesh.

green juice

1 green apple + 1/2 cucumber + lots of spinach + parsley + 1/2 lemon = instant energy ๐Ÿ˜€

I hopped on the RAD (Revolving Apparatus of Death) and did 50 minutes of walking with a trashy mag at 4.2 with 3.0% incline.

While I was on the treadmill, the pilot was being trained by my buddy Ron.

IMG00044-20100121-2009

Remember when Ron trained me?? Ehh, letโ€™s just say it hurt to move for a few days. The pilot is in for a treat ๐Ÿ˜‰ Buahaha.

Dinner was veggie beast bowl:

veg

1 head of organic cauliflower with balsamic, portobello mushrooms, grape tomatoes, basil, bell pepper, leftover cashew cheese from client lunches, sea salt, garlic, a shallot and pepper.

I also munched an unpictured egg puff, but yaโ€™ll have been seeing a bunch of those lately ๐Ÿ˜‰

Itโ€™s kind of interesting because when I first started to experiment with raw foods (about a year and a half ago), I thought you had to be all-raw to see the benefits. As an all-or-nothing girl, if my entire meal wasnโ€™t raw, I felt like it didnโ€™t count. Good thing my friend Gena has shown me that you still get wonderful benefits from consuming cooked foods in combination with high raw meals. As a weight-lifting aerobics-teaching training girl, I definitely need more protein and itโ€™s been really nice to get all of my macronutrients from a mix of cooked and raw sources. Baller. So I guess the lesson is any rawness you can add to your life is a good thing! Even if itโ€™s something small having a salad with each meal, snacking on raw fruits and veggies, a palmful of raw nuts, you are still getting more nutrients and live enzymes, which is definitely a bonus.

Iโ€™m off to take these puppers out and crawl into bed.

Have a lovely night <3

Gina

I had my first Komboucha tonight!! I think I spelled it right?? SO that was my raw addition to my day. I totally thought of you. I got the strawberry flavor, and I did contort my face at the first sip but I really liked it! It did almost seem like a cocktail. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on January 21, 2010 at 10:38 pm

hahah!!! i’m glad you liked it! it is like a cocktail- the fermenting gives it a trace amount of alcohol. i can usually drink half before i start to feel a little warm all over ๐Ÿ˜‰

I always crack up when you say “the revolving apparatus of death”. I will have a long session with mine tomorrow morning ๐Ÿ™‚

I need a Ron in my life to kick my bootay! I remember the days when I was doing gymnastics and cheerleading….it was like bootcamp conditioning every day. No questions. No hesitations. I just did it. Ya know?!

  6. Danielle (Coffee Run) on January 21, 2010 at 11:30 pm

I agree, incorporating raw foods can reap benefits- it doesn’t have to be all or nothing!
I really enjoy cooked veggies but I’ve started eating raw desserts ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. Ann of pressure cooker reviews on January 21, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I love the enery boost drink…(1 green apple + 1/2 cucumber + lots of spinach + parsley + 1/2 lemon = instant energy) definitely something I would love to try…

  8. Mama Pea on January 21, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I couldn’t agree with you more. I thought I had to be high raw/all raw all the time to be healthy and happy. I think everyone has to find the perfect balance for their lifestyle. I’m glad you’ve found yours and I think I’ve found mine!

  9. Katie Lewis on January 22, 2010 at 12:02 am

I recently got a Jack LaLanne Power Juicer and really want to start using it. I have no idea how to mix veggies and fruits together so it tastes good though. I want to try the one you just posted but do you have any other recipes for that kind of juice that you could share? THANKS!!!

  10. The Hot and Fit on January 22, 2010 at 12:44 am

HAHAHA the revolving apparatus of death?? I am ashamed to say it took me a few seconds to figure out what you meant!

  11. Susan on January 22, 2010 at 12:54 am

Can you send Ron over to me? Yum those butternut squash fries look so tasty. Have a good sleep.

  12. Heather @ Mrs. Southern Bride on January 22, 2010 at 1:10 am

Wow, the fries look amazingly good!!! Did you make them yourself??

I’ve only recently started adding some raw food into my diet! I’m glad to hear that even small amounts and balance are good too!!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2010 at 8:16 am

yup, i just use a crinkcle cutter

  13. Courtney on January 22, 2010 at 2:09 am

I didn’t know you worked at Anytime! How cool! :]

  14. Adrien on January 22, 2010 at 2:26 am

Who doesn’t love raw veggies and fruits?! Natures Candy as mom used to say! Love the blog, and working to get more raw nuts in my diet- maybe I’ll start with my next jar of nut butter- who knows?!

  15. simpledaisy on January 22, 2010 at 7:31 am

I try to eat a few raw things each day….but I really notice that when I pump the protein up I feel tons better:)
I workout a lot too and can definitely feel a difference if I don’t get enough protein!! I use Plant Fusion protein as an added insurance policy. I love the taste and it never makes my tummy hurt:)

  16. Paige (Running Around Normal) on January 22, 2010 at 8:08 am

Glad you had a nice relaxing end to your hectic day ๐Ÿ™‚
Do mostly young people work out at Anytime near you? The one by me is pretty much all college-aged people. Just curious ๐Ÿ™‚
The veggie beast bowl looks great!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2010 at 8:15 am

nope, it’s a mix of all ages. anytime is one of the few nice gyms in valdosta, so it gets pretty busy in there

  17. Caroline on January 22, 2010 at 8:12 am

Thanks for making me feel good about my diet ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a salad for lunch at work and am transitioning over to raw nuts instead of roasted. Plus I love my fruit! Best dessert possible.

  18. Gabriela on January 22, 2010 at 8:53 am

Your fries look great- how exactly do you cook them?

  19. Lisa on January 22, 2010 at 9:07 am

How’s The Pilot feeling today post-Ron? Thanks for all your raw food advice; it’s pretty new to me. Do you have a link about how you got “into it?”

  20. Catherine on January 22, 2010 at 9:09 am

I’ve started introducing lost more raw foods int my diet apart from the normal salads, and I really think it’s upped my energy levels! I’ve been kicking up the workouts bc I’m training for a marathon in April, yet I don’t feel bogged down at all. Thanks for the inspiration!

  21. Claire (College:Raw) on January 22, 2010 at 9:46 am

Lately I too have been eating more cooked food, like beans and hummus, because it satiates me better. I also love love LOVE steamed broccoli. It’s great to hear from another high-raw foodie about this. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Lauren @ Eater not a runner on January 22, 2010 at 9:53 am

Good to know, I have been incorporating more raw food into my diet!

  23. Karyn on January 22, 2010 at 10:26 am

i’m impressed that you can read while on the tm! any tips? i can barely read when i’m on the bike

  24. Heather (Heather's Dish) on January 22, 2010 at 10:39 am

i love the RAD ๐Ÿ™‚ i think your advice is great…even just eating a salad with each meal helps, and it’s great to understand the reality of that ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. K on January 22, 2010 at 10:40 am

I’m certainly not raw but I definitely notice if I start slacking in the raw veggie department. I feel like crap to be honest. It’s funny too because when I go away for work the first thing I want when I get home is raw, crunchy veggies!

  26. Jenna on January 22, 2010 at 10:47 am

Love your healthy Mickey d’s meal ๐Ÿ˜‰

  27. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on January 22, 2010 at 11:06 am

Those fries always look so good. How do you make them?

  28. Jessie @ thehappinessinhealth on January 22, 2010 at 11:14 am

Yup, your burgers and fries look better than Mickey D’s any day of the week. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to add, even since we got an Excalibur dehydrator (one of the best investments ever), I’ve made your coconut macaroons more times than I can count. Now THAT was a life-changing snack!

  29. Megan on January 22, 2010 at 11:36 am

your gym looks nice and spacious–mine gets SO crowded that it’s hard to find a spot for lunges or even stretching some days!!

  30. Kathleen on January 22, 2010 at 11:43 am

This post made me laugh when you wrote about your Pilot having a training sesh with The Man Who Made Gina Hurt for Multiple Days…quick quest? I was wondering (and I don’t know if you are allowed to say this) how your clients liked the raw meals? Just curious, sure they loved them *they looked delish* but wondered nonetheless! Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2010 at 12:37 pm

they called to say just how much they loved the meal ๐Ÿ˜€

  31. Carrie on January 22, 2010 at 12:46 pm

Thank you, Thank you for that last paragraph. That is the most sane nutrition advice I have ever read on a blog. I really appreciate your honesty.
Now I need to find that coconut macaroon recipe!!!

  32. Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather on January 22, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Yes I remember when Ron trained you! Your pilot’s got some soreness to look forward to the next few days for sure.

  33. Christina on January 22, 2010 at 1:34 pm

That veggie beast bowl looks delicious! Thanks for the raw food advice. I can’t imagine ever going totally raw, but every so often could definitely work!

  34. Kris | iheartwellness.com on January 22, 2010 at 1:58 pm

Ok Doll, what is this delicious millet bread?? Are there lots of additives in it (ie. sugar?) I need to get me some!!
