McCurry Burger

Helloooooo πŸ˜€ Thank you for all of the sweet wishes regarding my upcoming move- it’s definitely bittersweet, but I’m SO stoked to be near family and civilization.

Last night, in honor of Indian Food Wednesday, we enjoyed some Tandoori-spiced Chickpea Burgers

burgers

aka the McCurry burger πŸ™‚

To make the burgers, I put 1/4 sweet onion and 1/4 bag of organic baby carrots in the food processor and pulsed,

to that mixture, I stirred in 1 1/2 C cooked long grain brown rice (about 3/4 C dry)

brown rice

Spice action!

tandoori

I seasoned the mix with Juliet Mae Tandoori spice (new in my OpenSky store)

and stirred in a can of organic chickpeas that had been blended in the Vitamixalicious

mix

+ 1 T Nama Shoyu, 2 T hemp seeds, hefty sprinkle of Garlic Gold nuggets, sea salt and pepepr

In the fridge for 30 minutes to set,

Into 4 hefty patties:

burgers (2)

Baked for 20 minutes at 350; flipped and baked for 20 more minutes.

Served with roasted veg:

burger and veg

The pilot also had organic chicken seasoned with the Tandoori spice:

chicken

He liked it πŸ˜€

If dinner looked a little small… it’s because we had some of these beforehand πŸ˜‰

roons

Just to make sure they tasted ok for the HLS peeps πŸ˜€

Today is going to be a whirlwind!

The plan:

-Turbo + Bfast

-Drop off Vieserton

-Finish packing

-Run last-minute errands and to the post office

-Pray my Rent the Runway dresses get here

-Drop off Bella

-Leave for Jacksonville!

See ya from J-ville πŸ™‚

xoxo,

Gina

Something to do: You have until noon EST to send your favorite workout DVD review– I’ll be posting these tomorrow instead of today since it’s been a little frantic up in herrrre πŸ™‚

Something to think: Think about working out as something you do for YOU, not just to burn calories. When you work out, you feel better, you treat others with more kindness and patience than you might have otherwise, problems seem much more manageable after a good workout, and getting your sweat on does crazy awesome things for your health. The calorie burn and physical benefits are just icing on the cake, beebs πŸ™‚

  7. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 12, 2010 at 9:36 am

    Those burgers look so good!!!

I totally agree with you: exercise just makes me feel good — it something I can do for myself. (I think Chalene says that on TurboFire haha) — it gives me confidence and makes me feel powerful!

I agree, your pics look great!

    • Fitnessista on August 12, 2010 at 10:13 am

yes that’s probably why i’ve been thinking about that! she’s leaves messages in my brain during the workouts πŸ˜‰

Hey let me know how your Rent the Runway dresses turn out and if you like using that service if you have time! I get their emails every day and have been tempted but haven’t used it yet!

    • Fitnessista on August 12, 2010 at 10:13 am

i’ll post a final review after i use the dresses fo sho. i haven’t received the dresses yet and am already not very impressed. the price of one of my dresses went down $100 and they aren’t doing anything to price adjust– i called customer service twice and both people i talked to very unfriendly and not willing to help :/

  9. Whitney @ Whitinspired on August 12, 2010 at 9:59 am

I have been dying for a wedding or fancy event to come up so I can take full advantage of rent the runway. Hubby might kill me if I just order dresses to wear around the house and around town πŸ™‚

  10. jenna on August 12, 2010 at 10:17 am

your macaroons are looking heavenly! i hope your dress makes it in time!

  12. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on August 12, 2010 at 11:03 am

I’m with you. I think burning calories is a nice side effect of exercise but it’s about so much more than that for me. Without exercise my knee pain is so much worse. And for people who aren’t broken, it allows you to keep doing all the things we take for granted until we’re hurt. Like walking.

  13. Beth @ Will Run for Books on August 12, 2010 at 11:08 am

Yummmm…why must the fiance hate indian food??? πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

  14. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on August 12, 2010 at 11:12 am

Ha, love the name “McCurry” burgers! I love pretty much ANYTHING with curry, so these are going on my “to make” list!

I hope your dresses show up! I’ve looked into Rent the Runway, too, but I’ve been too nervous to try it yet… I can’t wait to see what dresses you picked! πŸ˜‰

  17. Tina on August 12, 2010 at 11:34 am

I think McD’s should feature a McCurry Burger. That place needs all the help it can get on health items after all. πŸ˜‰

And after I started working out for ME I began to enjoy it so much more. And when I enjoy it, I go more…so it’s a win win.

  18. Paige @ Running Around Normal on August 12, 2010 at 12:08 pm

  19. Nicole @ Making Good choices on August 12, 2010 at 12:18 pm

I totally agree with you, working out is something I do for myself, it’s my “me” time. It’s so important for me to get it in whether it’s 20 minutes of yoga or a nice long run. Those burgers look delish!

  20. Sharon on August 12, 2010 at 12:19 pm

I missed the recipe for the macarrons somewhere. Where do I find it?

Too, I agree totally with the exercise comment. You do handle life better when you have taken some time to charge your battery so to speak.

  21. Shanna @ Shanna LIke Banana on August 12, 2010 at 12:22 pm

    Another HLSer? I’m so jealous!

Congrats on the upcoming move to Orlando..I’m a firm believer that change is always for the good.

And I tend to start my workouts with the intent of burning calories but mid-way through I just start feeling great and don’t want that feeling to go away πŸ˜‰

  22. Megan (Braise The Roof) on August 12, 2010 at 12:26 pm

Yum, those burgers look awesome. They’re giving me inspiration for another recipe I’ve been wanting to create… πŸ˜‰

Exercise gives me a clean house! After working out I feel so good I feel as though as I could take on the world–which means the loads of laundry and toys strewn ’round the house. One of my favorite side effects!

  24. Lana Wilson on August 12, 2010 at 1:03 pm

    McCurry burger <–hehe!! Looks delicious!!!

  25. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on August 12, 2010 at 1:04 pm

Even if exercise didn’t burn calories, I think I would still do it because I love the way it makes me feel!

Have a safe trip! I’m looking forward to meeting you this weekend!

  27. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on August 12, 2010 at 1:06 pm

Hehe love the McCurry burger! I also feel like my primary motivation for exercising is just doing something that’s good for me. Like Chelsea (above), even if it didn’t burn calories, I’d still do it for the endorphins and the huge rush of energy and good vibes I get! πŸ™‚ Have a fantastic time at HLS!

  28. Veronique @ Hooked on Health on August 12, 2010 at 1:07 pm

Those McCurry burgers look wonderful! Very creative name πŸ™‚
Definitely a good idea to use up some chickpeas. I have a can of em waiting for me at home and I think I know how to put them to use now!

  29. Lisa @ Lisa's Foods on the Move on August 12, 2010 at 1:09 pm

I love veggie burgers and Indian food, so those would be the perfect barbecue addition.

Just found your blog today, and it’s great. I agree with what you said about exercise – it’s much more meaningful if it’s more than just burning calories. I love to go for walks with friends, or when I go for a run that’s almost a meditation. They’re perfect to balance out my day.

    • Fitnessista on August 12, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Oh congrats girl on the move…I am sooo happy for you! Relocating, even temporarily, is stressful on the outset but once you get settled, you will be loving it!!! and it will be more sweet than bitter, I am so sure πŸ™‚

Just wanted to remind you to keep your whereabouts, and private info, private on your blog. I have had some sh*t going on and it’s been a huge wakeup call for me. 33. Julia on August 12, 2010 at 2:53 pm

    Hi Gina,
A while back you wrote how 1 oz of broccoli is equivalent to 1 oz of steak in regards to protein. I am guessing that maybe you are talking about an incomplete protein? Or something that is measured differently then typically seen on a nutrition facts label? I have dabbled in veganism/raw foods diet but I do find that my energy levels decrease if I don’t get enough protein, so I am curious about the stat you mentioned.

Thank you for your wonderful blog. I also want to thank your husband and all of the others who are fighting for our country–as well as all of their wives who keep everyone strong.

  34. Mac on August 12, 2010 at 3:40 pm
