Salad of Lies

Hey hey ๐Ÿ˜€ Hope youโ€™ve had a wonderful Sunday!

Today was pretty amazeballz because I got to take a LaBlast class from Louis. It was exciting because while I teach LaBlast, I had never taken a live class (besides training) with the mastermind behind it. His energy is out of control and it was helpful to see the teaching and gesturing techniques he uses. Iโ€™m definitely inspired ๐Ÿ™‚

lablast

[I took a far away creeper shot at the end of class, because I felt weird asking for a photo, but heโ€™s on the far right in the blue shirt]

There were a LOT of ladies in there shaking it! Lurve.

When I got home, I grabbed a quick snack:

snack

(leftover egg casserole from this morning + brown rice bread, both covered in salsa)

and got to work unpacking.

It was funny because Bella has a crazy amount dog beds, scattered around the house, many of which are very plush and honestly I would like to sleep in. While we were unpacking the garage, she managed to find the oldest, gnarliest dog bed that somehow made it here from the POD, curled up and spent most of her day in it, amidst the rubble like a dumpster dog.

bell

I just donโ€™t understand, haha.

For a break from packing, we met up with the fam at Frost Gelato. I was majorly sweeted out from brunch, so I went to hang out ๐Ÿ™‚

23979a0bab024125977b7b17b88f8937_7

Since no one else had eaten *real* dinner yet (they did dessert first), we walked down to Zona 78 for some substance. It was awesome because they didnโ€™t mind that we had Bella with us- we dined on the patio, she laid under the table and the server even brought her a water dish. I love when restaurants are pet-friendly.

We started off with the sautรฉed calamari, which was in a creamy, spicy tomato sauce and not rubbery in the least:

calamari

and for my entree, I decided to roll with a salad because I needed some veggies in my life.

Behold, the salad of lies:

salad2

It looks like it might have extra veggies in it, but itโ€™s all a facade. It was 99.97% romaine lettuce- hardly any avocado, tomatoes, asparagus or egg.

I prefer my salads to be as beastly as possible and this salad was a fail. Ya win some, ya lose some ๐Ÿ˜‰

Time to crash out!

See ya in the morning <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: If you could take a fitness class or be trained by anyone, who would you choose? I would love to workout with Zuzana or take a Zumba class from Tanya Beardsley.

Ugh I hate it when restaurants skimp like that- especially if they’re charging like $10 for a salad just to have it be a bunch of lettuce (since I usually eat all the beastly items and leave behind the extra lettuce

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2011 at 1:36 am

yes it was like 11.50. i could have bought a ridiculous amount of ingredients to make an 11.50 salad at home

  2. Cat @ Breakfast to Bed on August 8, 2011 at 1:26 am

BodyPump with Les Mills. Is he even real?!?!? Or I’d sweat to some oldies with Richard Simmons. Mostly to check out his shorts and ask him about his porcelain doll obsession. (creepy!!)

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2011 at 1:35 am

      amazing.

    • Katherina @ Zephyr Runs on August 8, 2011 at 9:04 am

Pump & Step – I’d love to take that class with him!

  3. Amanda on August 8, 2011 at 1:28 am

And THAT..ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why I enjoy my salad beasts better when they’re made at home. I prefer my lettuce to veggie ratio to be about 50-50. Most restaurants just don’t understand my salad quota!

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2011 at 1:35 am

i’m right there with you! it’s frustrating. i’m thinking “do you ever eat salads? please make a salad you would like to eat”

  4. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on August 8, 2011 at 1:33 am

I hate it so much when restaurants jip on the veg — gimme dem vitamins! I would choose Jilliann Michaels or Bob Harper. They would both SURRIOUSLY kick my ass!

  5. mi-an on August 8, 2011 at 1:35 am

Also would love to be trained by Zuzana, then an awesome yoga class with Sadie Nardini…
Sunday has been so lazy for me!!! danced my booty off at a wedding last nite, now my calves are sore!
That just means I had a good time… oh and my boyfriend showed off some of his bollywood moves, priceless!

  6. Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine on August 8, 2011 at 1:36 am

Definitely body pump with Les Mills!

    • Maria on August 8, 2011 at 3:38 am

I don’t know if Les himself teaches anymore, but his son does. (He’s not that amazing..) And I think it would be much more interesting to have opportunity to go to pump class with Glen O., who is now in charge of pumps choreography and music. I would also like to go Suzan Renata’s class..

But mostly I’d like to go to do some BodyCombat whit Dan and Rachel Cohen, man that would be great! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on August 8, 2011 at 1:36 am

Awww, Bella in her bed is soooooo cute!! Love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

The calamari looks delish, but whoa, I can’t stand deceptive salads! Bummer.

  8. Sana on August 8, 2011 at 2:19 am

    Bahahah Bella found home!

  9. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on August 8, 2011 at 2:35 am

I want to do physique 57 more than anything! Boo salad of lies!

  10. Sara on August 8, 2011 at 2:50 am

That’s funny about Bella and her manky old dog bed. Kids are like that too. My niece still carts around a toy cat she has had since she was a baby. Other toys come and go, but ‘Beautiful’ (toy cat name) will never be replaced. It’s hard enough to get it washed..

  11. Marianne on August 8, 2011 at 3:35 am

Pets always gravitate to where the people they love are – if you all were in the garage, she just wanted to be near you, regardless of how manky the sleeping arrangement was ๐Ÿ™‚ I think it’s cute!

  12. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 8, 2011 at 4:47 am

If I could take a fitness class, it would be a yoga class with the late Pattabhi Jois. I met him and practiced with him for one week on his 2005 World Tour in Encinitas, CA when he was about 91. He died a few years later but it’s one of my biggest regrets I did not go to India and practice with him in the 2000-05 era. He was alive, I didnt have a child, and I woulda coulda shoulda.

Restaurant salads usually are a bit light on the chunky and fresh veggies, arent they. At least it wasnt iceberg lettuce ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Aine @ Something to Chew Over on August 8, 2011 at 5:26 am

Tae Bo with Billy Blanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on August 8, 2011 at 6:37 am

Sorry about the disappointing salad! I hate when that happens.

  15. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on August 8, 2011 at 6:37 am

That happens to me all the time! I go to a restaurant that has a fabulous sounding salad on the menu only to discover that the real deal is NOTHING like it at all ๐Ÿ™ The worst is when it’s nothing but iceberg lettuce!

  16. Holly @ The Runny Egg on August 8, 2011 at 7:05 am

Too bad about the salad! That stinks.

I would love to be trained by Jackie Warner or Billy Blanks (TaeBo!) ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Suzanne on August 8, 2011 at 7:17 am

Haha, Bella – what a cutie!

I would love a training session with Bob Harper. I do his DVDs and they are the only ones that leave me sweating and every one of my muscles worked. And I agree with most of his fitness philosophy.

  18. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on August 8, 2011 at 7:38 am

Man…I hate it when restaurants charge $$$ for a big bowl of lettuce. So unfair!

  19. Sam on August 8, 2011 at 7:48 am

That sucks about the salad, it needs WAY more stuff on it! C’mon.
As for the workout…SUCH a touch call! Probably Zuzana for me too. Even though I kind of stopping doing Bodyrock stuff. Still wanna meet her!

  20. Ashley on August 8, 2011 at 8:16 am

“salad of lies” makes me laugh. great title.

  21. chelsea on August 8, 2011 at 8:33 am

Zuzana !! I would work out with her any day, or maybe Chalene Johnson :)!

  22. Ali @ peachesandfootball.wordpress.com on August 8, 2011 at 8:34 am

I’ve never taken any classes – not much offered around here – but I think zumba sounds like so much fun so I’d probably pick Tanya Beardsley.

2012 to-do list: Must try Zumba

  23. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on August 8, 2011 at 8:58 am

Bob Harper definitely! So jealous of the women at Blogher that got to workout with him!
At least the calamari looks good…

  24. glidingcalm on August 8, 2011 at 9:30 am

UGH! I find it incredibly annoying when you pay good money for a salad and end up with a few soggy greens and barely any toppings! ๐Ÿ™

    whack.

love you though!! yay for a fun workout class, and your brunch from yesterday looked amazing!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. Paige on August 8, 2011 at 9:37 am

I think I’d run if I walked into a class Zuzana was teaching!!
Just kidding ๐Ÿ™‚ but I know it’d be a tough workout!!

  26. kaila @ healthy helper! on August 8, 2011 at 9:38 am

I hate when salads don’t live up to expectations!!! They are so easy to make amazing so you would think a restaurant would be able to do that!!!

  27. Erin @ The Grass Skirt on August 8, 2011 at 9:44 am

I relate to your disappointment over the salad. I recently went to a restaurant and my salad was JUST romaine lettuce and NOTHING ELSE! I love romaine, but um… I like for it to have friends. I love seeing Bella pics because I have the same kind of dog (only my dog Emma is pretty big for a maltese). Even so, their facial expressions (and I am convinced they make them) are so similar!

  28. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats on August 8, 2011 at 10:11 am

Restaurant salads make me so mad! Often people look at me like I am nuts when I would rather eat at home. lol. I would choose to work out with Jillian Michaels I think.

  29. Ruthie Hart on August 8, 2011 at 10:27 am

seriously SO cool you got to work with Louis!!!

  30. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on August 8, 2011 at 11:11 am

I’d love to take a class with Tanya or Gina, I had a ZUmbatomic Boost training with Gina but she didn’t teach any of the songs in the master class so I can’t mark her off my list.

Outside of Zumba I’d love to take a Yoga class from Tara Stiles. All I really need to do is make my way to NYC when she’s there and pay my $10 to go to Strala for that dream to come true!

  31. Lisa on August 8, 2011 at 11:24 am

Aww that salad is a fail ๐Ÿ™ That’s the worst! And I love working out with Zuzana too, she’s intense!

  32. Cait @ Cait hates Cake on August 8, 2011 at 11:26 am

Bella looks so cute snuggled up in her bed. I wish my dog would use a dog bed, he insists on laying on the couch instead – little stinker!

  33. Kelly on August 8, 2011 at 11:43 am

I love Frost! You totally missed out.

  34. Heather on August 8, 2011 at 11:47 am

I would love to have Bob Harper as a trainer. Or Shelly Knight from Physique57. This is off topic but do you ever get cravings? Your meals seem so balanced, I’m just curious if you ver indulge?! When I was pregnant I didn’t hve any weird cravings but I did eat a lot of sweet stuff…doh! (fortunately I only gained 25 pounds!)

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2011 at 12:26 pm

i had dessert yesterday, fried potatoes and cheesy egg casserole, so that was my treat day for the week. the rest of the week i’ll eat healthy (because it makes me feel good and that’s what i usually crave), but if i want something treat-y, i’ll eat it. ๐Ÿ™‚
as far as the pregnancy goes, all i really want is spicy and salty stuff! my sweet tooth seems to be on vacation

      • Heather on August 8, 2011 at 3:35 pm

Thts amazing!! Good job!! You are going to bounce right back to your pre baby body!!

  35. Diana on August 8, 2011 at 11:50 am

This is why I don’t like to order salads at restaurants! I know that sometimes they can be amazing but 9 times outta 10 I’m stuck with a pile of lettuce, enviously eyeing everyone else’s entrees.

I would love to take a yoga or pilates class with Kristin McGee! Or go for a run with Kara Goucher, although that might just make me cry.

  36. Lauren on August 8, 2011 at 11:59 am

Your dog is absolutely ADORABLE!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Just saying…..

  37. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on August 8, 2011 at 12:09 pm

I hate it when restaurants serve skimpy salads! Especially when they’re supposed to be an entree salad. I’ve had that happen to me before and I had to have a second meal when I got home! ๐Ÿ˜› Now I always ask the server about the portion size before ordering.

  38. Katy @ RunKatyRun on August 8, 2011 at 1:13 pm

That’s a toss up-I would like to either:

    1) Take a Physique 57 class with Tanya Becker-because I adore Physique 57 workouts!

    or

    2) Go running with Kara Goucher-I would love for her to give me some tips!

Since Spinning is my love I would love to take a spin class instructed by the creator Johnny G.

And I hate it when I get salads like that at restaurants…and to top it off they end up being ridiculously expensive! I have dreams of opening a restaurant that makes salad beasts… ๐Ÿ™‚

  41. Kali on August 8, 2011 at 4:32 pm

One time on a business trip, we stopped at a pizza parlor for dinner and I asked for their garden salad but asked if I could just add a ton of veggies (the ones they put on their pizza) on top and no cheese. The server seemed to totally understand. They brought me a small bed of shredded ice berg lettuce with a few diced tomatoes, sliced olives and cheese. Not a single veggie! I hate salads of lies! :O

  42. Kim on August 8, 2011 at 7:41 pm

I’d love to do a Zumba class with Gina or Beto ๐Ÿ™‚

  43. beccah on August 8, 2011 at 7:42 pm

do you happen to have a recipe for that egg casserol, lady?

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2011 at 7:44 pm

i wish, but no… and i also kind of don’t want to know what’s in it. i’m pretty sure it includes lots of cheese and heavy cream ๐Ÿ˜‰

  44. Niki on August 9, 2011 at 8:22 pm

    Silly Bella.

My dog, Kira, is the same way. I bought her a squeaky hedgehog toy about a year ago. She ripped it to shreds, then it disappeared. I kind of assumed someone finally threw it away, but alas, it showed up in the middle of the floor last week, completely flattened and disgusting. And now she carries it with her everywhere.

I am waiting for her to drop it so I can make it disappear forever. And I’ll buy her something new, of course.
