6/28: Friday Faves
-Coffee kombucha. Say whaaaaat?!
It was just as glorious as it looks. Sweet, a nice little jolt, and the lovely ‘bucha fizz I love so dearly. I can’t wait to try this again, or make an at-home version!
-These popsicles from Whole Foods.
I’m on a “tropical everything” kick right now and I especially love the pineapple lime combo. Another fave? This mango mojito sorbet.
-The Sing! app.
We’ve been having a little too much fun with this one on the iPad. My current high score is 2000-something, and I know the Pilot is having fun this weekend trying to beat it. This is how it always seems to work: I’ll beat him at one of his games, he’ll practice like crazy and then kick my high score into the dust. I was once the reigning Fruit Ninja champion in the house, but lost my title. Keeping that friendly competitive spirit alive ๐
-This awesome Reebok gear.
Reebok sponsored my Fitbloggin’ trip (thank you, Reebok!) and also sent some wonderful goodies to wear while I’m here. Included in the above pic:
–tee
–dance sneaks (I tested them early for Zumba and DJ Dance last week- LOVE them) and their all-new running shoe
-The girl on the plane next to me who lost her tooth right before we took off. I don’t have a picture.. but it was awesome.
-Good times in a new city with lovely friends.
(Thanks for the pic, Julie!)
We had a blast today exploring the city; a full recap will be coming soon! It’s been so much fun to catch up with Tina, Julie, Anne and Bobbi, and also meet Heather, Ericka, Kasy and Rach.
One of the things I’m especially loving about Portland: THE FOOD. We’ve already enjoyed some fantastic local fare, and remember when I was half-complaining about another week of restaurant food? Delete.
-Livi talking on her toy cell phone. She puts it to her ear and says, “Tata!” (our grandfather) “Hi, Tata.” [pause] “Fiiiiiine.” “Uh huh.”
I die.
-Your wonderful Summer Shape Up feedback. Maybe it was because I sent out all of the workouts/eats early, but this Shape Up flew by. I’m blown away by all of your hard work, check-ins, and response to this SSU — I hope you agree that it was the best one yet ๐ If you have any ideas for things you’d like to see for Winter Shape Up, I’d love to hear them! Leave a comment below -I’ll reference this post when I’m planning WSU- or send an email to fitnessista at gmail dot com.
What’s something you’re loving this week? Don’t forget to enter the Yes To giveaway!
Also, a heads up that Google Reader will be gone starting next week. For those of you who also love and use Google Reader, I’ve heard great things about Feedly and Bloglovin’.
Hope you have a wonderful Friday!
xoxo
Gina
Portland sounds like fun so far!
But, it can’t not be with bloggers all around. Always a great time.
I’m kind of intrigued by this coffee kombucha! That’s so cool, I want to try one bad.
That donut looks all kinds of incredible. And I love the Reebok gear! I’ve been meaning to hit up a nearby Reebok outlet for weeks now, I’m always lusting after all the great gear you have! Especially the sneakers!
Make sure to go to Greenleaf Juicing Company for a great juice or smoothie! One of my favorite finds when I was in Portland! Enjoy ๐
You got my favorite at VooDoo, or at least the pic is of my fav.
Mine too! I miss voodoo.
yeah! that’s my city (i’m from portland)! it’s so gorgeous. glad you’re enjoying yourself. i have a stupid summer cold right now and can’t wait to breathe again so i can finish up summer shape up. enjoy your weekend, gina!
Sounds like auch a fun trip!! And picking up new things at Whole Foods became an obsession when i was on my US trip the last 2 weeks ๐
Love all the Reebok gear, so neat!!
This shape-up was amazing, thank you so much for the hard work. I find weight lifting so so dull unless it’s done in fiery sets like yours! My week was a little funky, so I still have 2 WO 4’s to complete, today and Sunday and then I’ll be done.. I was shopping a few days ago and my normal size was/is awfully loose on me! Results thanks to your program ๐ And since you asked..
Things I loved and would want to see again:
-Supersets! These were great and motivating cuz you work hard and its like OK the lunges are DONE today, instead of knowing you have 3 more rounds eventually ๐
-No Machines/at-home accessible, I do have a gym, though I sometimes work out at home, and at the gym I don’t use the machines.. plus they are not accessible to use during sets, it would be really inconvenient and awkward, so I really enjoy that these didn’t involve any of that.
Things I would like to see but didn’t:
-The videos!! Like last years, they were soo helpful, some moves I had never done or heard of and deciphering from the pics was tricky sometimes.. of course I figured it out, but wasn’t always totally sure and the vids were perfect!
awesome- thank you so much!! and i’m so very happy you like it ๐
Omg that picture of Liv with the cell phone just killed me, she’s such a cutie!
This was my first shape up and it was AMAZING! Thank you for all of your hard work and putting it together!
so happy you liked it!! ๐
You got the ODB (can’t type it out since I’m at work hahaha). Good choice!! How was the wait? Hope you’re enjoying your trip!!
hahah! the wait was about 20 minutes, but worth every second
That’s not too bad! We waited about 45 min/an hour in the rain – and it was still 100% worth it, haha. If you can, try to bring some home for the pilot (they stayed pretty fresh the next day, if they last that long…). Maple bacon was husband approved (and approved by me too, haha).
Have you seen the alcoholic kombucha!? I went wild in a whole foods the other day when I saw it- it’s in a black bottle and they have to check you ID to buy it! haha.
no,but i’ll def get some next time i’m at whole foods
SO wish I could be there in Portland with all of youuuu!! ๐
ME TOO! rub that belly for me ๐
That sing app looks like a lot of fun! I’m so glad youre having fun in Portland! I love your dress, I’m normally not a fan of high-low dresses but it looks so cute on you!
thank you! ๐
Thanks so much for Summer Shape Up! I really liked how you could do all of the workouts at home quite easily. I second another commenter who asked for videos next time around– I didn’t know what all of the moves were and couldn’t tell if I was doing them right just from the pictures. Video would be really helpful!
that’s good to know. i did videos one year, but didn’t really get a response from them, so since they were time-consuming, i skipped them this go around. it’s nice to hear they’re helpful!
I totally agree with Becca. Some of the exercises I wasn’t sure exactly what to do. I figure just moving was better than nothing ๐ but videos would be great!
Oohh, I’m here for Fitbloggin too and need to find that coffee Kombucha! Where did you get it?
glad i got to meet you this am!
it’s from the yoga pearl yoga studio cafe. if you want to go get some, i’ll walk with ya!
You have such an awesome relationship with Reebok! I LOVE the workout gear you got to try out! So cute.
i’m a very lucky girl- i love working with them!
Have fun in Portland! So fun to see Julie from PBF in your pic! Wish I could hear Liv talking on her phone ๐
I love love love your blue and white dress! Where did you get it?
Was the girl who lost her tooth on the plane a little girl? Or was it an adult? I feel like I would be freaking out if any of my teeth starting falling out!
Can’t wait to hear more about Fitblogging!
hahah no it was a little girl! i should have mentioned that
Wish I could be there with all you cute girls!!
LOVE those Popsicles too!
All of you lovely Fitbloggin ladies are just beautiful! Glad y’all are having a great time. And that donut – holy cow, that looks amazing. Enjoy!
OMG- Livi with that little cell phone! SO CUTE.
Looks like a very fun trip!
Where did you get your super cute dress your wearing in the photo? It is really pretty.
I love Portland. My husband is from there so I get to visit frequently.
On Tina’s blog i saw you were wearing a really cute blue/white maxi skirt. Where did you get it from?
thank you! it’s from stitch fix
It was my first time participating and I’m loving Summer Shape Up! If I need it to be more challenging I can add weight, speed up or do more rounds. One thing I’d like to see more of would be videos! I love the 2 ab burners on video and wish there were more!
Thank you for SSU!! It has made me so excited for working out. I gained a pound this week, but since my clothes are fitting SO WELL, and alot of them are loose, I think it might be muscle. Especially since after all those lunges my thighs are like rocks. Sore rocks.
For the winter SSU, I definitely would love to see videos. Not necessarily videos for the whole workout, but even just for some of the more unusual exercises. I could not for the life of me figure out the reach and roll this week, but since just being in a plank and reaching opposite legs/arms out almost knocked me over, I just stuck with that. But it would’ve been nice to know how to do it right so I could attempt it. ๐
I LOVE your chevron dress! I’ve been in search of the perfect one – is it Stitch Fix or somewhere else? ๐
I only got to do the first week of SSU before my teaching schedule got crazy and I couldn’t do the workouts, but plan to start it over next week! This round, I especially liked that you sent everything early (I like to do my planning on Fridays before weekend shenanigans ensue) and that it was easy to find everything in one place (which will make it really helpful when I start over next week!).
Also, I don’t know if you have additional plans for the newsletter, but I’d love to see emails for more than just shape ups…maybe a monthly recap, like “in case you missed it, here’s…” and include the links to new vids/workouts/recipes that you made? Not sure what else, but I always love more Fitnessista content ๐
i’m officially adding portland to my travel bucket list! i’m looking forward to your upcoming blog posts about fitbloggin’. hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with great eats! =)
This shape up was great!
I loved:
New circuit each week — I got to know it, but never got bored.
Split of weights and cardio — it was easy to split up if needed
supersets and mini circuits. It was over before I knew it and easier to push hard!
I would have liked the weeks schedule and the workout on the same page for reference, but halfway through I got wise and just started writing everything down!
There is very little I found lacking. I thought the level of the workouts, the minimal equipment, the balance of the schedule were really well-thought out. I would rank this up there with the beachbody programs I paid out the @$$ for!
This was my first time doing SSU and I absolutely loved it! Can’t thank you enough for all the time and energy you put into it. Having just had my second baby I figured it would be a great way to get my workout in at home in a super efficient way while my girls and I adjust to our new “normal” (uninterrupted time is pretty non-existent with two bambinos under two!) and I was SO right.
Gina, you can bring the sweat in a matter of minutes and I adore your inclusion of supersets, compound strength moves, and HIIT to get the blood pumping in a short amount of time. Being able to do it all at home with minimal equipment is huge as is the ease with which I can tailor everything to my liking (increasing/decreasing weight, incorporating an extra set, adding an ab burner, etc.).
Like many others, a short video of you demonstrating each exercise would be great. And I’d love a new warm-up/cool down video each week just to mix things up. Cheesy as it sounds, it’s nice to hear the voice behind the blog every now and then ๐
Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Portland!!
The Coffee kombucha sounds interesting. Going to have find this and try it.
Yikes. I love coffee and I love kombucha but the idea of the two together sounds pretty awful to me. Portland is such a great city. Have fun!
Sounds like an awesome trip so far! Have fun!!!
Living vicariously ๐
Are those Oreo’s on that doughnut? It looks soooo delicious!
Isn’t Portland the best?!
I’m new to your blog so I’ll have to check out Summer Shape Up ASAP! ๐
Enjoy your wknd!
i’m loving it!! awesome, welcome to the blog ๐
xoxo
If you figure out a coffee kombucha recipe please post it! That looks amazing.
I’m loving stone fruits!
Livi is so stinkin adorable!
Long time reader, first time SSUer! I had to switch up this week’s rotation of workout 4, so I’m officially done (with the exception of easy cardio, which I’ll fit in as I spend the weekend traveling). The workouts have been very challenging, but in the best way possible. I really needed to shake things up with my fitness routine and clean up my eats, and SSU was the perfect fit. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would like to take the opportunity to thank you, Gina, for putting together such an awesome program ๐ I know the focus was not on weight loss, but I weighed in this morning and discovered that I lost 4 lbs! Perfect motivation to keep going and do another 4-week stint…especially since my birthday is late next month and I want to celebrate it feeling super fit, strong and healthy!
Enjoy our beautiful city! I hope a run on the waterfront is in the works – the views are worth it!
did the 5k loop today! ๐
I’d recommend getting to the other side of the river while you’re in Portland. Most of the good stuff is in NE and SE Portland. Downtown and the Pearl are just like any other place.
what’s the best way to get there? is that where the ice cream place is? (salt and something?)
Well, there are a number of different neighborhoods on the eastside. If you have a car, that would be the quickest way to get around to see different areas. You could also cab it. Salt & Straw’s original location is on NE Alberta which is a cool area. They also have one on NW 23rd. Division/Hawthorne/Belmont are all close together in SE and are within walking distance from each other. Mississippi is another cool street. Make sure you hit up the PSU farmers market tomorrow morning, it’s amazing!!
Have fun girl!!! Sure wish I was able to come…look forward to your recaps ๐ tell everyone I say hi!
xoxo
M
I just love you and your style and your cute family! Can we be besties now? kthx <3
That picture of her is so so cute!! I love little summer rompers too – my heart melts.
It was so nice to meet you today at FitBloggin’. Again, nice job at the Zumba class! Hope to run into you again this weekend.
I love the portland food (DELETE) lol* That looks delicious ๐ Glad you are enjoying yourself out there! Love + Shine CourtStar
I’m loving vacation! Too bad its back to the real world tomorrow ๐
Hi Gina, I also wanted to send a big thank you for the SSU. It was my first time participating, and I actually only started from week 3 because for the first two weeks I was finishing up Insanity, but since I liked it so much I think I’ll start from week 1 all over again. Thank you for always motivating and inspiring us with your blog posts! Enjoy the rest of your time in Portland ๐
It has been so fun getting to hang out with you! I was especially psyched to take Zumba. You rocked it!!!
LOVE the Reebok line. I feel like they must have done some intense pre-testing before releasing most of their new line of clothes. Their shirts are long enough and actually stay put when you’re doing anything weight-related which I really appreciate.
Thanks for sharing-I can’t wait to try the coffee Kombucha!
You should definitely venture across the river! And while youโre on the eastside, stop by The Meadow on N Mississippi. 100+ kinds of artisan salt (lemon flake, black truffle, Murray darling, fleur de sel il de re) and an outrageous selection of single origin chocolates and bitters! The owner, Mark Bitterman, was just on the Portland episode of Bizarre foods. A definite place to stop into if youโre in that area and you appreciate artisan goods!
