Friday Faves

Hey hey hey! Happy Friday! Whatโ€™s going on this weekend? Anything fun? Iโ€™m super excited because a friend from years ago (OG blog readers: remember Tinkerbell??) is coming over this afternoon to drink wine with us. I canโ€™t wait to see her and catch up, plus she finally gets to meet the girls! Theyโ€™ll obviously love her as much as we do. We also have a BBQ for the Pilotโ€™s work, a date night, and are having some friends over for dinner. (Good motivation to really get this house together.) Iโ€™m also starting training at the gym, so Iโ€™m doing all of the fun orientation stuff. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, too.

In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear what youโ€™re enjoying, too, if youโ€™d like to shout it out in the comments below.

Livi's hair

(Livi is letting me braid her hair again, and I love it)

Barre Bootcamp! I have been BLOWN away with the enthusiasm for this fun, impromptu challenge. Our Facebook group is rocking, and Iโ€™m so pumped to hear youโ€™re enjoying the videos. You can still pick up the combo pack here if youโ€™re looking for new workout inspiration, and youโ€™ll get the remainder of the daily challenge emails.

Mara Hoffman leggings. I ordered these a few weeks ago, and the fabric is dreamy. I love the fun pattern -itโ€™s exciting enough without being *too much*- and as a leggings connoisseur, I will say the quality is amazing. (Not see-through, either. <โ€” v. important.)

Skinceuticals tinted moisturizer. When my friend Michele did my IPL photofacial, she chuckled when I told her I put Babyganics sunscreen on my face every day. (So it kinda makes me look like a ghost. NBD.) I told her that my beloved Beautycounter Dew Skin SPF was pretty low, so Iโ€™d been combining it with the Babyganics for more sun protection. She recommended this and I LOVE IT. Itโ€™s just enough coverage to smooth out my skin tone, and itโ€™s SPF 50. Win, win, win.

Skinceuticals

When the Pilot cooks. I got home from yoga class and THIS was waiting. Zucchini and cauliflower with curry turkey meatballs. It was so delicious, and itโ€™s always a special treat when he takes over in the kitchen. The girls crushed it, too.

Speaking of healthy dinners, I canโ€™t wait to try this one.

Iโ€™m so sad we didnโ€™t get to try this in Tucson.

Super strong language, but awesome message. Do it for YOU, and donโ€™t worry about what others think.

Iโ€™m a little afraid of cauliflower in my smoothie, but this looks awesome.

YOU GO.

Deck of cards (I just wrote carbs) dumbbells workout.

Happy happy Friday, friends.

xoxo

Ha! I haven’t been able to get myself to try cauliflower in my smoothie. I love cauliflower for all the other ways to use it but do I want my smoothie smelling like cauliflower? I can’t commit yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2017 at 8:34 am

i heard you can’t smell it. we shall see…

I remember Tinkerbell! I think you trained her and did some meal prep for her? That’s exciting! I can’t believe you’re already having people over for dinner – super impressive!! Liv’s braid is so pretty! I’m loving the Barre Bootcamp ๐Ÿ™‚ It was exactly what I needed and has been so motivating. Thank you for doing all of that!

This weekend I’ll be down with my fiance (he lives 2 hours away from me, so one of us travels every weekend) and I’m going to try to convince him to do the HIIT workout with me, and maybe a barre workout! We’ll see how that goes. He’s 6’7″, so I’d really love to see him doing some barre moves ๐Ÿ˜‰ We’re going to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants tonight (super fresh food, vegetarian/vegan-friendly, menu changes fairly often – I think you’d love it!) so I’m really looking forward to that!

So funny that you said that about motivation to get the house together. I read once that you should schedule a friends or family gathering at your new house about 1-2 weeks after move-in so that it’s motivation to get everything put together! Have a great weekend : )

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2017 at 8:20 am

hahah it was definitely the kick in the pants we needed ๐Ÿ˜‰
hope you have a great weekend, too!

That’s awesome that the Pilot makes such healthy meals. Ugh I can’t even get my boyfriend to eat hardly any vegetables it’s a constant struggle and makes meal planning real interesting!

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2017 at 8:20 am

it was a sunbasket meal. maybe not a recipe he would have chosen on his own, but everyone loved it

  6. RR on April 21, 2017 at 8:03 am

I HATE cauliflower but adding frozen cauliflower to my smoothies is awesome. It managed to get to back into smoothies.

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2017 at 8:19 am

that’s exciting to hear. i’ll definitely give it a try!

  7. Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups on April 21, 2017 at 9:07 am

I was wondering about the cauliflower in smoothies to and planning to give it a try this weekend. Hope you have a good one!

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2017 at 6:04 pm

did you try it? how was it?

  8. Jamie @ madrediem on April 21, 2017 at 9:51 am

I can’t wait to be able to braid Julianna’s hair! I think we’re almost to the point where I could make one work, but it would just look ridiculous. So we’ll stick with pigtails for now. Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned!

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2017 at 6:04 pm

that’s how p’s hair is. it’s SO CLOSE to being braid-length, but not quite there
hope you had a great weekend, too!

How do you manage so many dates nights? Please share your secret lol Defintiely need to fit in some hubby and I time…(with a 1 & 4 year old)

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2017 at 6:03 pm

we hadn’t been on one in at least a few weeks, but we usually try to go once a week. we have to plan something with just the two of us, or it feels like we’re aways just high-fiving and switching off taking care of the girls and don’t have a real conversation
the key is finding a couple of babysitters that you love!

What a surprise to myself featured in your Friday favs!! (I’m the girl second to top left) I’m IN LOVE with these Barre workouts. I did the booty barre this morning and I almost died, in the best way possible!! Knowing I was having cookie dough cereal for breakfast helped me from not dying! LOL. I saw you post Livs braid earlier this week, she has the best hair and your girls seriously get cuter and more beautiful by the day. I hope you have an amazing weekend Gina! Thanks for all you do for us gals!

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2017 at 6:02 pm

Don’t fear cauliflower in your smoothie! It’s my new fave ingredient. Makes a super thick & creamy smoothie and you truly can’t taste it. I promise!

Happy Friday!! We have 25 girls spending the night tonight for my daughter’s track team sleepover. Should be fun!

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2017 at 6:01 pm

      ok, i will try it!
      how did the sleepover go?!

      • Tracy on April 23, 2017 at 6:06 pm

Sleepover was a great success! I led a short yoga class for them which was fun. I’m not sure how much sleeping actually went on tho!!! lol

Gina, I have been reading since your original Valdosta days back when I was a single girl in my 20s, and the Pilot was deployed, so it’s exciting to see this new (old ;)? ) journey unfolding for you. Funny how life brings you full circle? Lots of love xx

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2017 at 6:01 pm

Ah I love reading everyone’s responses to cauliflower in the smoothie! I have yet to actually try it…but I have riced cauliflower in my fridge now per Julie @ PBfinger’s suggestions to make it a smoother (#punnotintended) transition. Fingers crossed!

  17. Barb McLaughlin on April 24, 2017 at 8:44 am

Hi hi!! Any idea why yours posts show up “late” for me. I subscribe on Bloglovin and your Friday post shows up on Monday?

  18. Jennifer on April 24, 2017 at 9:34 am

You should totally try out that smoothie! I saw someone else use the frozen cauliflower in a smoothie and thought “hey I have cauliflower stalks… I should try that!” I chopped up the stalks and added it to my smoothies instead of greens and it is GREAT! It gives a nice texture (like how a banana or avocado would) and helps keep the color. Cuz sometimes you don’t want a green or brown smoothie you know?

I’m behind on my blog reading, but I remember Tinkerbell! So cool that you get to see her again! Hope you’re settling into the new place!
