11/25: Meals and Fitness for the week

Is anyone else ready to eat a vegetable after last week’s holiday pie-stravaganza?

I definitely am. At the same time, I still keep going back to the pie trifecta to steal the innards. Did you know pecan pie is the least healthy option when it comes to pie innards? It’s also the most deliciousโ€ฆ.

This morning was my last long run before the half marathon, so the family all went for a 10-miler at the River Walk.

River walk

I think the River Walk is one of Tucson’s best-kept outdoor fitness secrets. I lived through 27 years of life, as a Tucson native, and just recently found out about it. It’s a little over 17 miles total, pet-friendly, and fairly flat, making it perfect for cyclists and distance runners (or just fun walks with the fam!). When my friends used to say they went running at “the river” it sounded totally sketchy. I’m sure some parts are safer than others, but the area we’ve seen is extremely beautiful with lots to look at. Little Liv was a TROOPER- she sang and talked for a while, then took a short nap. We alternated pushing the jogging stroller: the Pilot, a good friend from work, and myself.

I’m sitting here trying to plan this week’s meals so we can grocery shop when Liv wakes up, and am trying to think of ideas…

Here’s what’s on the menu so far:

-Turkey lentil loaf with mashed potatoes (and baby lentil loaf for Oliv!) and salad

-Mini Thanksgiving dinner (we’re still hankering for day-after-Thanksgiving sandwiches, so I’m just doing the essential turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing mix)

-BBQ chicken pizza

-Tilapia tacos

(The tacos might change, I haven’t been in much of a fishy mood lately)

-apple

-chard

-micro parsley

-pizza crust

-tomatoes

Edited to add this week’s fitness plan, because I spaced it:

Sunday: 10 miles

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: CrossFit + film new Tabata Thursday video

Wednesday: Teach Zumba

Thursday: Teach strength + 20 minutes HIIT

Friday: OFF

Saturday: 5k (maybe teach Zumba- we’ll see what the schedule is like)

This week, I’m going to make a conscious effort to prep more veggies and fruits, ease back on the sugar, and enjoy one salad beast a day. Anyone want to join in? Let’s use the hashtag #turkeydaydetox – I’m excited to see pics of your salad beasts this week ๐Ÿ™‚

    I’m all about “detox salads” this post-turkey day week. @ohsheglows has a great seasonal detox salad recipe at her blog. I think I will be making that one!

    I will be drinking a fresh juice every morning this week that will include beets, carrots and ginger to detox my body (and liver) after a week of indulgences while on a family vaca to Europe (which clearly included a TON of wine drinking).

    I’ll also be getting back into my typical workout routine, while I wait for TurboFire to arrive!!! :):)

    I ordered a new handheld foam roller to use on my ankle & calf. I also got some more latex free resistance bands and a few other things for my ankle. I’ve been slacking off the past two months with my exercises and my ROM has gone back down majorly. I am mostly working my ankle this week with some walks with the kids as usual.

    Our blender died 6 months ago, I ordered a Blendtec last week and it should be here early in the week. I’m so looking forward to my daily smoothie again.

    I’m really going to dive into the fruits and veggies too! Thanksgiving involved wayyyy to many sugar and carbs! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I did not know that you are running another half, good luck!

    I am just so excited to eat real food this week! We were traveling and visiting family all week so we had strange airport lunches, quick snacky-dinners, and random leftovers. I can’t wait to go grocery shopping tomorrow!

    Count me in for the salad beast a day! We’ve been fighting off tummy bug all week so we’ve been living off of toast and crackers so my body is desperately craving some greens!
    We also all missed out on Thanksgiving dinner so I’ll also be cooking a make up dinner sometime this week!

    I haven’t snapped any pics, but I have had a salad beast every day since Thanksgiving for lunch! I admit that it has had leftover turkey on top, but I haven’t eaten any other leftovers. I’ve had a tex/mex variation with avocado/tomato/onion/cilantro and a shaved fennel/apple/onion & grainy mustard vinaigrette version.

    Honestly, after T-day fill, I’m done. That is, except for pecan pie, which I ate on Friday and Saturday. I gave away the rest today to my BIL or I would have easily eaten the rest myself! Pumpkin = yum but Pecan= BETTER!!

    Tonight is fish tacos for dinner! Looking to hopefully try a yoga class this week. BBQ pizza sounds good, except I’ll use shrimp instead. Other meals at our house this week include: Seafood Stew, Sweet Potatoes with poached farm eggs & asparagus, mega veggie pizza, kale chips, sauteed chard, and some kind of vegetable soup with rosemary scones. Have a FABULOUS week! ๐Ÿ™‚

    There’s a riverwalk in my town and I love it! It is so nice to have a flat road that is safe and meant for being run on!

    I couldn’t wait for the endless supply of food stuff to end! Me and my kids made sure to fill up on veggies and drink lots of H2O through the weekend to flush all the toxins out. Ran for 20 min in the freezing cold tonight and my lungs felt like they were crystallizing. I haven’t ran distance for 3 months so my legs are tired tonight. Getting ready to put on a bootcamp the next 6 months and detox my body. This will be a first bit I’m always up for new discoveries. I love your food/workout schedule too. I bet it’s easier to stay on track:) Keep up the good work!

      thank you! the last one was technically a “training run” for this upcoming half even though i pushed it a little ๐Ÿ™‚ i’m excited for the next half, though!

    Nice job on the 10 miles! We have a trail by the river here too and it’s one of my favourite places to run.

    This week I’m planning on making a Cajun shrimp and rice dish from The Food Network. I’m also going to roast up my kabocha squash at some point!

    My sister actually lives in Tuscon and she has a feisty Boston Terrier, so I’ll have to tell her about the River Walk! ๐Ÿ™‚
