Party crashers
Morningโฆ or afternoon ๐ The time I would have spent writing this morning’s post was sucked into a vortex that is this book.
I was going to read a couple of chapters, and if you’ve read it, you can probably guess how well that worked out for me. SO good, and a quick, engrossing read.
This morning, we also went to the zoo!
We had texted some friends to see what they were up to today- when they said they were going to the zoo this morning, we were happy to crash the party. Livi got to run around with her little friend and as usual, the adults had as much fun as the kids.
What was once an apprehensive funny walk is now a confident stride:
(clapping for the monkeys)
and since the weather was gorgeous, all of the animals were out.
(The tapirs are so funny and cute)
(drinking an almond milk mocha on the way home)
The rest of the day we’re going to work on putting the house room-shuffle-circus back together and I’m going to get in a workout this afternoon. I’m also stoked to make some of these cookies.
Did you do Workout 4 today? I’ve received some amazing feedback so far- you’re all rocking it out! Leave a comment here (<– click to go to the right place) and let me know how it went.
Hope that those of you who are off work today are relaxing and enjoying the afternoon.
See ya later!
xoxo
Gina
What’s the last book you got sucked into? I always love new book recommendations <3
I’m so jealous of your sunshine and warm weather! It was a high of 40 today in Chicago, which felt like a heatwave! Unfortunately, the rest of the week will be cold, snowy and grey =(
sending sunshine your way!! ๐
Awe, she’s just precious with her walk!
I miss the zoo, we don’t have one where we live, but it’s always so fun.
I’m going to have to check out that book, I’m always looking for new ones!
I love Life of Pi if you haven’t read it yet, it’s SO good!
i haven’t read it, but the movie was incredible
I am just about to finish the book I’m reading (a Patterson) and needed a rec! Going to look into this one ๐
Sounds like such a fun morning – have a great rest of the day!
Gonna have to get that book on my Nook. A friend just saw the movie and said it was very good and now you are pumping up the book – gotta check it out.
Looks like a great day for a zoo trip.
I LOVE the Game of Thrones series, very engrossing but very long too…
I just started Catching Fire, I know I’m going to zoom through it ๐
I highly recommend Gone Girl, especially if you love thrillers. It is everything people say it is and will suck you in until the last page. Plus it’s full of twists and turns to constantly keep you guessing.
And in a completely different category of books, Tell the Wolves I’m Home is amazing. It is serious, somber and thought provoking, but wonderful.
i heard the ending is awful, which is the only thing that’s kept me from reading it! is that true??
I wouldn’t say awful. It was shocking and definitely made me go “hmm..” But I didn’t think it took away from the rest of the book.
I recently read it afraid of the same thing! The ending wasn’t terrible or traumatizing, just what most readers wouldn’t expect (or want). Def. recommended!
I liked the ending. It is not something you expect, but isn’t that the mark of a good book? Considering all the books I have read, for a book to still surprise me is amazing.
I just finished reading Terrified, by: Kevin O’Brian ( http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12999093-terrified ) this morning. It is such a good book, one of my new favs. Its an awsome suspense/crime/thriller. It keeps you on the edge of your seat! I totally recommend reading it some time!
It looks like you guys always have a wonderful time at the zoo.
Gone Girl is worth reading, even if the ending is kind of strange. Where’d You Go Bernadette is GREAT!
Just a warning — the movie is VERY disappointing once you’ve read the book. I loved the book so much, and I spent the entire time watching the movie huffing and puffing, because they changed the story completely. I think I would have liked the movie if I hadn’t read the book first. Very disappointing.
good to know, maybe i’ll skip it then ๐
I haven’t read the book (wish I did!), but I saw the movie….I didn’t think it was that good at all!! You have enticed me to read the book, though- especially if it is so different from the movie!
I just read Charlaine Harris’s Aurora Teagarden series, shes the writer of the books true blood’s based off and she’s an amazing writer all her books suck me. I was sick a few weeks ago and read the whole Aurora Teagarden series in a week and it was seven books. I’m a book addict but thats not a bad thing ๐
The Poisonwood Bible. It’s an intense book but so incredibly well written and deep!
i LOVE that book
YAYAY! ๐ Ok…more suggestions because suggesting books is my favorite thing to do. lol….
1. The Cheese Monkeys by Chip Kidd…it’s very wierd but very cool.
2. Anything by David Sedaris because he’s hilarious.
3. ***The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood.*** Crazy ladies and Canada. ‘Nuff said. ๐
Me too.
Yay! ๐
Reading The Art of Fielding right now. And get stuck in the vortex every night. I am actually trying to read it slowly because I don’t want it to end.
I am reading There is No Me Without You- a nonfiction book about a woman in Ethiopia who opens her home to children who are orphaned by AIDS. Such a beautiful story of love, parenting, and the human sprit.
I devoured Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. I also liked Garden of Charms for a light, happy read.
I was sucked into the Hunger Games trilogy. I hate when I pick a book and it sucks (happens a fair bit – with books and movies).
I’m currently reading the Kitchen House, and I can’t put it down. I’ve read more than half of it just this weekend!
I agree completely! It is one of the best books I’ve read and I was completely sucked in. I rarely re-read books but this one breaks that rule!
How did i NOT know that “Silver Linings Playbook” was a book first!?!? Ordering is ASAP.
I can’t believe how big she is! So crazy ๐
I haven’t read that book, but we saw the movie not too long ago. It wasn’t amazing but it was pretty good! Really good cinematography… seems like one of those movies that doesn’t blow us out of the water but then goes on to win lots of awards, haha. Maybe we just have bad taste?
I’m currently reading Catching Fire (sequel to Hunger Games –> speaking of amazing movies!). I usually don’t read books that have movies, but after we recently re-watched The Hunger Games I was really into the story line and wanted to keep going! I’m half way through and can’t stop! ๐
I was sucked into the book A Fine Balance. It has stuck with me. Another one I couldn’t put down was Middlesex. I’m a sucker for the classics too like Middlemarch, Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina. Happy reading!
I’m so jealous of the warm weather! That zoo looks like such a fun time!
WSU has really helped me be more intentional about the fuel I am putting into my body and the workouts have rocked! I know both of those helped me PR in my half marathon yesterday…I shaved off 4 1/2 minutes and finished with a time of 1:39:17!! Thanks for these great workouts and recipe ideas!
Wow, that is an amazing time – congrats chica!!
looks like a lovely day! I didn’t realize Silver Linings Playbook was a book – but I loved the movie! ๐ I just read “The Fault in our Stars” and loved it!
I’m going to suggest a lovely easy read I just finished because it was so sweet and romantic! I just read “The Choice” by Nicholas Sparks and thought it was gorgeous and perfect material to lull me asleep each night xoxo
Silver Linings Playbook is (I think) the only instance where I’ve seen the movie but haven’t read the book. I love a good read though, so I’m going to have to check it out if you’re giving it a huge thumbs up! Have you read The Art of Racing in the Rain? That’s one of my favorites, even if I have to read it with a box of tissues handy.
I LOVE/want your hair!! Have you discussed your latest cut/done a style tutorial??
I second the Margaret Atwood recommendation…Alias Grace (also by Atwood) is one of my top 5 fave books of all time. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides is amazing. And recently the best book I’ve read is “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened” by Jenny Lawson. I have never laughed so hard and so often during any other book!
Its just amazing to see them grow, isn’t it?? I’m blown away every time Kay does something new. This morning, I sneezed and she said bless you. I almost fell over haha. Your daughter just keeps getting cuter. Glad you guys had a fabulous day. That mocha sounds yummy. I taught two classes yesterday (attack and step).
I read a lot of YA novels. Loved “The Fault in Our Stars,” and recently was sucked into “The Raven Boys.” Both excellent writing, well-developed and lovable characters, and great stories. I also loved Gone Girl.
you MUST read “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. Absolutely amazing!!!
I saw Silver Linings Playbook the movie, so I can only imagine how awesome the book was…
Gosh, is there ever a day that you aren’t dressed absolutely adorable?!? I love that top!
Gone Girl was the last book I got sucked in to … it was not what I thought it would be. Could not put it down!
The movie was so good!! My in-laws recommended it to me and I loved how real the characters were. I’ll have to give the book a read too!!!
Haha, I was almost going to get that book and then decided not to because I thought, “I’ve got too many things going on to get sucked in right now!”
What place sells an almond milk mocha?! I can only find places with soy milk or cow’s milk!
coffee exchange- it’s a local coffee shop
LOVED “The House I Loved” & “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana de Rosnay and “The Bungalow” & “The Violets of March” by Sarah Jio.
Anything Jodi Picoult. The Pact is my fave, but I also love Plain Truth & Keeping Faith.
These pictures are sooo adorable!
