Hi! Happy Friday! Hope youโ€™ve had amazing week so far <3 Iโ€™m not sure what weโ€™re up to yet today, but I think weโ€™ll get into some adventures. The day started off early with an Orangetheory class and a wonderful breakfast with the fam.

Taken 3 is happening?!

Teas! Iโ€™ve been drinking different flavored herbal teas -since there was no wine at my trip last week, I enjoyed herbal tea at night- and picked up some new flavors to try. I really love the Egyptian Licorice and Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut Yogi Teas.

    All of your talk about Orange Theory, has me super excited to try it out. My husband and I live in southern Florida for the winter and our home there has an Orange Theory like 5 minutes away, right in the Whole Foods plaza. As soon as we get there I am signing up!!!

    Love the layering tips!!! I wish I could start layering, too…I just heard on the news that Naples is getting a cold front this weekend…and by cold front they meant 82 degrees high instead of 90.

    I LOVED the article you linked to about the militarization of fitness. This trend can make it hard to find joy in working out when you feel like you have to follow a certain regiment based on what others deem as a “good” workout. Thanks for the reminder that exercise doesn’t fit into a perfect little box! ๐Ÿ™‚

    I saw the article about military fitness earlier this week! Very interesting! I’m usually under the mentality of working out hard and then allowing myself to relax the rest of the day but I really want to incorporate more gentle exercise as well.

    Egyptian Licorice tea is so magical. I had a friend bring back the real deal from her work in Dubai a few years ago and couldn’t find it locally until recently. The flavor is so comforting!

    I read that article on the militarization of fitness earlier this week and thought it was totally spot-on. I know so many people who talk over and over about how tired they are because they got up at 4 am and haven’t stopped since, and they say this like we should be jealous of how hard they work.
    Craziness! Exhaustion is not cool and it will not get you anywhere later in life. I loved the line “too much yang, not enough yin”. Give me more yin in my life! I’m all about finding the “middle ground”.

    Congrats on Fitsugar, I need to check that out. With Chicago coming, the last thing I need is a stomach upset while running around with thousands of people watching, especially as the elites are sent off first!!! I need to build up my good bacteria this week, but making it is scary….maybe your post will take some of the unknown away!

    Definitely agree about the exhaustion as a status symbol, and that post makes a lot of good points. I know i push myself too far sometimes, and I have been trying to get away from this, but my body is also used to it after years of training at this level. I can see how it would be dangerous for someone not used to it. Interesting to think about this, I hadn’t really considered it before.

    ok, so i hope this doesn’t sound crazy, but one of my friends goes to orangetheory in point loma… and i think maybe some of the same classes as you ๐Ÿ™‚ she recently moved to san diego, and is totally awesome… i feel like you guys would be friends! (She is tall and blonde and totally fit, and a kick ass mamma… like you! And she would probably be really embarrassed if she saw this! LOL!)

    Oooh, I read that article about militarization of fitness earlier this week. Got a whole post planned around it for next week, but my basic thought was “AMEN.” I’m all about pushing hard, and I think there is so much good that comes from a more military-type mindset (discipline, structure, putting a greater good ahead of yourself), but when it comes to personal fitness it’s just unnecessary. If anything, I think it takes AWAY from the benefits of fitness for most folks because it makes training so stressful.

      i totally agree. if your workout is causing adrenal fatigue, overtraining and stressing you out, you’re not going to get the benefits you’re looking for anyway!

    Happy Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚ Since you like Yogi tea’s Egyptian Licorice tea, if you’re also a mint fan, I highly recommend their Egyptian Licorice Mint flavor. I also LOVE their Soothing Caramel Bedtime tea!

    I loved the article on the militarization of fitness. I used to train really hard. Then I suffered a TBI, and it changed everything. It’s been four years, and I physically can’t handle working out as vigorously as I did, and I still struggle with any type of jump training, but I may be in better health than I have been my entire life (minus the lingering effects of a TBI) because I’ve been forced to slow down quite dramatically. I have to get good sleep or I can’t function; I have to eat well or lingering aches and pains flare up really bad; my fitness regime is much gentler because I’ve learned to listen to my body, and learned how to use it effectively, thanks to several years in physical therapy.

    I can’t run a marathon right now, but that’s okay because health isn’t just about the ability to perform exercise.

    Also, exhaustion isn’t all it’s cracked up to be; just ask the parents of a newborn…

    Ok, first off, CONGRATS on the kombucha post!! It’s because it was an awesome post ;). Love me some Yogi teas! I also love the Canadian company, David’s Tea, and I’ve been drinking a lot of it lately (just stocked up last weekend, but always need more haha – tea hog!). I just heard about that Taken 3 movie and was like, whaaaaaaat?!?! I enjoyed the second one (despite it getting not as rave reviews as I think it actually deserved), so I’d be interested in seeing the third. Happy weekend!! Hope it’s a great one!!

    I love, love that tiny buddha and zen garden! I want one on my desk! But then again, I might be too tempted to make sand swirls than actually work. I just bought some pumpkin Noosa at Target today because I’ve heard rave reviews and I’m so excited to try it! Also loving Vanilla Spice Perfect Energy tea from Yogi. It’s the perfect fall flavor (or at least an alternative to pumpkin and apple cinnamon) and it gives me a little boost of energy ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great weekend!

    Do you have a shoe that you like for Orange Theory classes? I’m finding that my running shoes are a little too cushy for the strength portion of class, but I’d still like something with a little cushion for running. What do you use? Thanks!!

      i wear my running shoes (reebok one cushion). i’ve tried my cross trainers before, but found that they weren’t supportive enough for the running portion

    I think the article on the militarization of fitness is really relevant to my life right now and not only applicable to fitness. I just finished my first 7 weeks of my first semester of my doctoral program and feel so inadequate as compared to those around me in the program (I’m also 32, they’re 26-27). A few people constantly talk about how they are going to be done in 3 years and they ran x number of marathons during their program. I’m struggling to just get in a few walks a week and keep stress at bay and get enough sleep. I’ve been really sick the last few weeks and I realized that we don’t all need to be hard core all the time. It’s just not worth it. I think it’s time many of us sit back and think about what is important to us.

    I love that Tahitian Spice Yogi tea. Been drinking it for years now! It’s great with a little vanilla creme stevia and almond milk. Yum!! Those markets that you’ve been going to look amaze! I love sweet little flea markets with fun trinkets and stuff. Reminds me of the east village in NYC.
    Also–could you do a fashion fitness post sometime soon? I really liked them–you gave me fashion idea inspirations.

    I am loving tea lately! I guess it is the chill in the air? I just love a hot mug in the afternoon or before bed. Plus, I know it’s a lot better for me than an afternoon cup of coffee!

    I always love your friday fave posts! That friends quite article is awesome. If you really like tea, you should check out a place called David’s tea. I am not sute if they have one in San diego but their teas are pretty awesome! A little pricey though. Congrats on getting your kombucha article getting featured ๐Ÿ™‚
