Empowering

Hey hey hey 😀 How’s your day going? Hope it’s been fabulous <3

I’ve been moving a little slowly today! After my adventure-filled weekend (exploring, ninja fighting ghosts, and feasting on Chicago food is no joke) and getting into V-town at 2am this morning, it’s been a little slo mo over here 😉

Something that helped wake me up:

glo bar

An Empower Glo Bar!

I haven’t had a Glo bar in forever, and when I saw one in my swag bag, I was so stoked to try them again. I usually prefer whole grain options for everyday stuff (these have white rice in them), but decided to roll with it. The verdict? LOVED this flavor. It was crunchy, chewy, slightly sweet and had a beautiful coffee aroma and flavor.

Some ya’ll asked to see my Lulu goods, so here’s the outfit that I picked up:

lulu

A cute red tank top – the fabric is SUPER soft!

tank

and some black capris:

capris

Not gonna lie, my debit card wept a little when I made this purchase, even though I get 15% off for being a fitness professional. I have SUCH a hard time dropping crazy dollas for workout clothes even though I use them multiple times a day. Expensive jeans? No problem. Expensive yoga pants? Notsomuch. I think it’s because I know how stanky and sweaty I’ll get wearing them. Usually, I get Nike Tempo shorts at Nike outlet, yoga pants at Victoria’s Secret and tops at TJ Maxx or Target. Who knows though, maybe I’ll be a Lulu convert??

Snackage:

bomb

Choc cherry bomb. Using FRESH cherries that I had to de-seed myself. That is love.

Some fun stuff came in the mail today!

mail

Goji berries, courtesy of Sun Foods and my ZIN (Zumba Instructors Network) DVD and CD for this month. Teaching the Zumba class at HLS with Diana this past weekend made me even more excited to start teaching again in Orlando! 😀

me

I’m off to train a client, then meeting the girls for dinner and Eat, Pray, Love. Has anyone seen it yet?!?

Enjoy the rest of your day <3

Gina

Upcoming: That cookie giveaway I told ya about! We’re getting everything finalized as I type this and I think you’ll love it 🙂

Something to read:

-The Lululemon manifesto –adore this. One of my faves: “The conscious brain can only hold one thought at a time. Choose a positive thought.”

-Ghost stories!!! Ok, so now that *mostly everyone* is out of the creepy weepy hotel the Summit was in (that I didn’t end up staying a single night at, haha), here are some of the links with info about the hotel:

Haunted Congress Hotel

Weird Chicago Tour

and tons more! Sabrina and I were Googling stories about the Congress Plaza when we left the hotel and were each snuggled in a Heavenly bed 😉

I just saw Eat, Pray, Love 2 days ago with my mom. LOVED it! I walked away smiling and feeling happy 🙂
And I too just spent way too much $$$ at Lulu. Love that store, but like you I’d rather spend money on clothes I wear out, not clothes I work out in! Have a great night!

  2. Angela on August 16, 2010 at 5:11 pm

Now it all makes sense. I had no clue why you were so freaked out about your hotel. I would have been totally creeped out too!

I have the same philosophy about clothing. I’m all for paying for quality dress and work clothing, but gym clothes? Forget it. I hear that the yoga pants at lululemon are pretty incredible so it might be time for me to bite the bullet. I’m not sure if I’d become a regular lululemon shopper but I might have a few splurge worthy items. Love the color of that tank!

I did see Eat Pray Love. In fact, I posted a movie review: http://eatmovewrite.com/2010/08/15/eat-pray-love-the-movie-a-review/.

As with most movies, it’s not as good as the book, but I still LOVED it. Have fun!!!

  4. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on August 16, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Ohhh can’t wait to see what use the goji berries for – considering I just picked some up and don’t really know what to do with them 🙂

    -Laur

PS..I’m making your sweet potato chili tonight. Hands down, my favorite Fitnessista recipe! 🙂 🙂

  5. Kate @ Ordinary Girl, Extraordinary Journey on August 16, 2010 at 5:17 pm

LOVE that Lululemon manifesto! I will keep that in mind!

  6. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 16, 2010 at 5:20 pm

I also have a hard time spending alot of money on workout clothing — and it is totally because I get so gross and sweaty, so why pay more? But now that I have switched from Target shorts to Under Armor shorts I know that quality makes a difference!

I love your blue Zumba pants. What a riot!

  7. Shanna @ Shanna LIke Banana on August 16, 2010 at 5:20 pm

I have an Eat, Pray, Love date with my bestie this Friday night 😉

Ditto on spending mucho dinero for workout clothes…it makes my heart hurt a little. Marshalls alwaysa has GREAT finds!

  8. momsgottheruns on August 16, 2010 at 5:23 pm

hey girl! first of all I would totally love to take a Zumba class taught by you! It looks so fun! Second, I love those workout clothes! You can go ahead and send them to me now if you’d like! : )

  9. CathyK on August 16, 2010 at 5:30 pm

I’m off to see Eat Pray Love tonight, too!
I hear you on the “ouch” when you see that total for the lululemon clothing…if it’s any consolation, i’ve been a fan for years, and honestly, you will get tired of the clothing before it wears out…really great quality stuff. i don’t mind spending on fitness wear because that’s what i wear 90% of the time! personally, would rather spend on stuff i wear all the time than on jeans or dresses.

  10. Laura on August 16, 2010 at 5:37 pm

I love that manifesto. I don’t own anything from luluelemon but I’m sure I could find plenty of things that I would like to own. Like you I think it would be hard to justify that cost. Of course if you really love the outfit maybe it would help you get motivated to work out more.

  11. Carrie on August 16, 2010 at 5:49 pm

I used to live near a lulu but never got the courage to buy anything. Though I do love a hot pair of yoga pants. If you’re going to be doing crazy stretches, you may as well make your booty look as good as possible in a room full of people. Sweat or no sweat. 😉

    Zin 28 is the best!!

    • Fitnessista on August 16, 2010 at 6:01 pm

la patilla is my ultimate fav…i was at sob’s for the live taping it was amazing!!! tanya beardsley is amazing, beautiful and so inspiring she is my girl crush for real!!

  13. Carrie on August 16, 2010 at 6:06 pm

Oh my God, I stayed at the Congress hotel a couple years ago when I saw Madonna live. My friend was up half the night because she swore someone sat on her bed with her. I can’t wait to tell her its haunted–she’ll feel so justified, LoL. Had no idea…

  14. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on August 16, 2010 at 6:06 pm

So jealous of your Lulu gear!

  15. tweal on August 16, 2010 at 6:11 pm

I have never shopped at lululemon before, because I’m like you – I’d rather buy cheaper workout clothes, and spend the leftover $ on shoes, jeans, purses, etc. I would have thought you’d spend more on workout clothes because you wear them so often and it’s part of your job, whereas I can’t justify so much $ on something I wear so infrequently. One of my friends is a fitness instructor, and she used to do yoga poses in the front window of lululemon, once a week for an hour, and they would pay her with clothing. Pretty sweet deal.

I haven’t seen ‘Eat Pray Love’ yet but I hope to soon – it looks really good. I haven’t read it either, but I think I might as I keep hearing wonderful things.

  16. Lisa on August 16, 2010 at 6:12 pm

I enjoyed Eat, Pray, Love! How can you not love Julia Roberts and what a great story! Of course the book was a bit different and much more deep but the movie was so much fun. Warning though, intense cravings for Italian food and a trip to Bali may occur!

  17. Kristina @ spabettie on August 16, 2010 at 6:14 pm

I *LOVE* Victoria’s Secret yoga pants!! I have probably 8 pair, and some of them are 5+ years old – and STILL in great shape – they are good quality and VERY comfortable.

Those links about the hotel are crazy… I heard people talking about the haunted hotel all weekend, but wow! 🙂

  18. Hangry Pants on August 16, 2010 at 6:16 pm

The little time I was able to spend w/ you was awesome. Hope we get to chill again soon. 🙂

  19. *Andrea* on August 16, 2010 at 6:25 pm

love that quote! cute purchases – so worth it, especially for your job 🙂

  20. Heather (Heather's Dish) on August 16, 2010 at 6:40 pm

that outfit is SO cute…and just a great bonus that it’s super comfy too!

  21. Erin @ A Girl and Her Mutt on August 16, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Your lulu gear is great! I wish I would have been able to take your Zumba class. Next time for sure!

  22. Andrea of Care to Eat on August 16, 2010 at 6:44 pm

EPL was so good! Better than the book I thought because it was so well done. Bring tissues – I cried like a baby and my friend who was with me just got a divorce and I thought she was going to lose it. So heartbreaking at times.

  23. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on August 16, 2010 at 6:49 pm

I love that red tank! I want one. It does look super soft!

  24. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on August 16, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I live really close to a Lulu, and still have yet to make a purchase there! I have a hard time spending money on workout clothes for the same reason! I usually go with Old Navy tank tops and the same style of Nike shorts. 🙂

  25. Naomi on August 16, 2010 at 7:03 pm

once you go lulu, you’ll never go back! 🙂

  26. Kimberly on August 16, 2010 at 7:06 pm

I hear you about Lululemon’s clothes,($80+ for capris is crazy) but its always good to treat yourself especially since you spend so much time in workout gear.

    Have fun with Zumba!

  27. Karyn on August 16, 2010 at 7:07 pm

hey hey hey back atcha 🙂 i have a hard time justifying the $$ on workout clothes too. i definitely think it’s because i get all nasty in them!

  28. Tina on August 16, 2010 at 7:21 pm

I would have a hard time spending that much on workout clothes too. I buy so many of them but always go for bargains. They’ve lasted me well enough. Although I will say if I had more dough I would love the lululemon stuff.

  29. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on August 16, 2010 at 7:22 pm

LOVE your lulu gear! If that is the Cool Racerback, I have the same one in 5 different colours (LOL – I like to stock up on things I like!) Haven’t seen Eat Pray Love yet but I can’t wait to go! Let us know how it is!

  30. fittingbackin on August 16, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Love the new lulu digs – I know it, SO expensive. 🙁 But worth it – SO cute – and nice discount!

  31. Allison on August 16, 2010 at 7:37 pm

i like Lulu clothes, but i’ve only received it as gifts, i can’t afford it myself! haha

I hope i can join in the HLS fun next year, i totally wish i could have met you this year. maybe next time

  32. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on August 16, 2010 at 7:43 pm

I have a lulu jacket that I got about a month ago and it’s already fraying!!! I’m so mad!

I haven’t seen Eat, Pray, Love yet, but I will see it with my mom and my sister tomorrow. I’m very excited.

  33. Suzi on August 16, 2010 at 7:51 pm

colour me jealous! My ZIN package hasn’t arrived yet and I’m dying to get it!

  34. Jessica (Fit and Clean) on August 16, 2010 at 8:10 pm

I hate spending a lot of $$ on workout clothes…the majority of mine come from Target, with a few Adidas shirts and Nike shirts thrown in. My running shorts are mostly from Old Navy. The only thing that I like to splurge on are my sneakers, because I work out every day, and they can lose cushioning very fast!

  35. LisaG on August 16, 2010 at 8:10 pm

You will love eat pray love esp since you’ve read the book. Good cast of characters. Glad u got home safely.

  36. April @ Crazy Fabulous Life on August 16, 2010 at 8:11 pm

  37. Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) on August 16, 2010 at 8:42 pm

My girl friend told me there’s a lulu store about 20 min from here/ home and I can’t wait to go browse!

  38. Whitney on August 16, 2010 at 8:44 pm

I actually didn’t like Eat, Pray, Love. I loved Julia Roberts, but I just didn’t like it compared to the book.

  39. bo on August 16, 2010 at 8:50 pm

i saw eat pray love on sunday night. it was really really great. even my boyfriend liked it.

  40. Wendy on August 16, 2010 at 9:00 pm

Yummyyy, the Glo Bar looks awesome! A hint of coffee flavor – How cool is that?!
The Lulu outfit is super cute!!!
And omg I stayed at the Congress Hotel a few years ago. Had no idea it was haunted! I loooove ghost stories so I’m pretty psyched to check out the links you posted!
Glad you’re back home safe n sound with hour pilot and your fur kids! 🙂

    * YOUR pilot. Ohhh the maladies that come with an iPad keyboard!

  43. kellyO on August 16, 2010 at 9:01 pm

I’ve got to go against the majority – I did not care for EPL at all. Too long and it just didn’t do it for me.

  44. Jaima on August 16, 2010 at 9:11 pm

I saw Eat, Pray, Love at a special sneak peek before it came out and although I loved the book more, I thought the scenery, costuming, and casting were great and I left the theater feeling uplifted and inspired.

  45. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on August 16, 2010 at 9:55 pm

    I reeeeallly want to see E, P, L but I haven’t yet! Maybe this week 🙂

I LOVE Lulu, as expensive as it is. You can wear the clothes outside the gym, too! And the manifesto is great.

  48. MB on August 16, 2010 at 10:54 pm

Not gonna lie, one of my main motivations for ab workouts and cardio lately has been the promise of buying myself a lulu tank top once I no longer have to fear the awful muffin top that most tightly-fitting workout tanks accentuate!! LOVE their manifesto.

  49. Alissa on August 17, 2010 at 12:11 am

I love your site 🙂 It reminds me of home because I lived in Orlando for almost 10 years and now am in Texas, also a military wife. I just wanted your opinion, in the past 2 months I have had 2 trainers quit my gym and I just get passed on to the next newbie. I really feel more comfortable with a girl trainer and tomorrow I have my first session with a guy. How do I nicely tell them I would like a girl? I have 8 more sessions to go and really want it to count, with a guy I will feel stupid and quit faster.

    Thank you for your time.

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 8:44 am

      hey girl,
love hearing from other military wives! 😀 just be honest with them- at the gym, we’re totally used to this! i actually refuse to train guys and my boss is totally cool with it. just go up to the desk and tell them you’d prefer a famale trainer. i don’t think it will be a prob at all!

  50. Nicci@NiftyEats on August 17, 2010 at 1:35 am

Zumba was so fun with you ladies teaching it, I need to see about my instructor doing more hip hop songs. Thank you again.
