Let’s Snoogle

Hi friends ๐Ÿ˜€ How was your day?

Itโ€™s hot as ballz here.

photo (2)

Tucson summers donโ€™t mess around, but I love them. No humidity (my hair says thank you) and the monsoons are incredible.

Today was kind of a weird day. We had an ultrasound, which I was super nervous about but it ended up going well (!), and then this happened.

snoogle

Nap time on the couch โ€“which is a borrowed futon from my bro since our furniture is in the PODโ€ฆ and we broke it- with the Snoogle. Even for those without a gluten-free bun in the oven (dudes too!), check the Snoogle out– itโ€™s the comfiest thing in the world. They have a ton of colors for the pillowcase too.. Amazon owns me.

I had a thousand things to do today, but sometimes resting is more important than being productive, ya know?

Eats!

eggs

Eggs with goat gouda, salsa and brown rice cereal with almond milk and cinnamon

A weird combo, but it was very good ๐Ÿ™‚

pudding

Chocolate-covered strawberry chia pudding!

In a bowl, I added:

-2 T chia

-1 T raw cacao powder

-1/2 pack of protein powder (my Sun Warrior came today! Thank goodness)

-1/4 C gluten-free oats

-1 C almond milk

-drizzle of honey and some cinnamon

After letting it chill it in the fridge for about 20 minutes, I stirred it up and topped with organic sliced strawberries and a drizzle of cashew butter.

chia

Bazing!

Iโ€™m trying to get some ideas for meals this week since Iโ€™m feeling more into the swing of things. I feel like I havenโ€™t really cooked in forever! [It was last week, but I havenโ€™t consistently cooked in a loooooooong time]

Any ideas or recipes youโ€™d like to see? Iโ€™m definitely making the gluten-free bars ๐Ÿ™‚

bell

Off to do the gym thang and hang out with the Pilot.

Enjoy your night!

xoxo

Gina

I spent the summer of 2007 in Tucson and totally remember those temps and the monsoons (and the awesome sky that always came after them). Have I mentioned how much I heart Tucson? ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. kaila @ healthy helper! on June 27, 2011 at 9:49 pm

I was in AZ during june once and the temps were insane!!! Now I tend to visit during the fall when its a bit cooler. To tell ya the truth I kind of loooove the heat though! Hope to live there some day!

My boyfriend (I like to think of his is the Army’s version of a seksi pilot!!) ๐Ÿ˜› is going on a road trip today with his daughter, so I made Eat, Live, Run’s Whole grain blueberry breakfast cake for them to eat tomorrow morning when they leave, and it was sooooooo gooood. I had to fight the urge to eat the whole thing before he got here ๐Ÿ˜‰ You should make!

  13. hippierunner on June 27, 2011 at 10:04 pm

Everything looks so yummy! I wouldn’t mind seeing a vegan cookie recipe or something like that, can never have too many!

  14. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on June 27, 2011 at 10:12 pm

That chia pudding looks amazing! I am glad that the ultrasound went well. Have you ever read Expecting Adam by Martha Beck? I think you would really enjoy it! Also, I think you should doll out some gluten free pizza for dinner!

  15. Val @ Balancing Val on June 27, 2011 at 10:16 pm

I would <3 to see a GF bar recipe.

As much as I love eating gluten free, I like having more than just a larabar to rely on in times of a quick meal/snack ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Lindsay@LivingLindsay on June 27, 2011 at 10:22 pm

Girlie, I LIVED for my snoogle when I was pregnant. If you love it now, just wait until you are 8 months along and you have to change positions at night every 13 minutes. The snoogle saved me – everytime I rolled from one side to the next, it came along with me. It was the only pillow I needed. I even used it a lot when I breasfted – it’s super handy!

  17. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on June 27, 2011 at 10:26 pm

“but sometimes resting is more important than being productive,”– YES, especially when you’re pregnant.

you are GROWING A HUMAN inside you. That’s HARD WORK and taking it easy on the errands, chores, etc..is good. It’s wonderful, actually. ๐Ÿ™‚

That chia oatey strawberry concoction with the cashew butter looks…stellar!! YUM ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Gina @ Running to the kitchen on June 27, 2011 at 10:26 pm

Yum, I might have to make that chia seed pudding. Perfect afternoon snack.

  20. Stefanie @TheNewHealthy on June 27, 2011 at 10:35 pm

  21. Kayla (kiki85) on June 27, 2011 at 10:36 pm

Dude, Amazon owns me too. Pretty sure that’ll get worse when I’m pregnant/we have kids ๐Ÿ˜›

I was going to ask how you live in those temps until the line about no humidity. Now my hair is ordering me to move there ๐Ÿ˜›

  22. Laura (Cookies vs. Carrots) on June 27, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Not gonna lie, the snoogle looks pretty amazing.

  25. Meghan N on June 27, 2011 at 10:47 pm

HOLY HEAT!!! I was dying in 85 degree weather today. I guess this New Englander could never survive the south!

hahahaha…I totally thought that the “snoogle” was just a name you made up not its legit name!

  26. Kris | iheartwellness.com on June 27, 2011 at 10:56 pm

Dang girl…bottle the heat and please send it up to Vancouver for us…..we are cloudy and a bit chilly here ๐Ÿ™ Poopers!

    Have a great night!

Random question – how do you take a picture of your iphone?

  28. Melissa @ Live, Love, & Run on June 27, 2011 at 11:06 pm

I wish I had known about the snoogle when I was pregnant…I had a body pillow, but yours is just glorious! Haha!

I’m digging the salsa and eggs idea…I need to find a salsa I really enjoy, though. Any recommendations? I love restaurant salsa, but the stuff you find in jars these days is just so…chunky and “typical”.

  29. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on June 27, 2011 at 11:15 pm

Oh my! 111 degrees!!! I don’t know if I could survive, lol. But without humidity I’m sure it’s like a typical hot day with it.

I loved my hair in Vegas! It was the best hair days I’ve ever had. Would love to live in zero humidity, but that’s not happening in NY anytime soon, lol.

  30. Brenda@ Baby on the Way on June 27, 2011 at 11:30 pm

  31. Cait @ Urban Fencepost on June 27, 2011 at 11:39 pm

Wow, I can’t believe how hot it is there! Do you have to spend all your time indoors? That snoogle looks so comfy. I want one and I’m not even pregnant!

  32. kari on June 27, 2011 at 11:49 pm

Gina, the pudding looks delicious and it reminds me of my breakfast oatmeal. wow, those temp are high, we get a lot of afternoon showers and so much humidity;-( my curly hair does not like! how about making black beans and some platanos. you could also add some boil eggs for some added protein and you could add these on your tortilla wrap.

  33. Elise on June 28, 2011 at 2:56 am

so i stepped off the plane into the phoneix airport today, and i wanted TO DIE. and i was in the heat for like 30 seconds. i don’t know how you handle it! but i am thoroughly impressed.

i like that you have a gf nugget, and i’m looking forward to those gf bars! i recently started making the transition to a gf diet due to awful bodily reactions to it, and am eager to find delicious dessert recipes!

I love this quote at the end, it beautiful, and just what i needed to hear right now…thank you for posting the inspiration and wise words ๐Ÿ™‚ Your strawberry chia pudding looks absolutely divine, btw! I thought it was boiling in England yesterday but you guys in Tuscon definitely beat us in the heat stakes, lol! have a beautiful day! ๐Ÿ™‚ xyx

  35. Wifey on June 28, 2011 at 6:43 am

That heat is CRAZY! We don’t get that hot in Atlanta but the humidity is RIDICULOUS – and it’s horror for your hair.

  39. Jess Green on June 28, 2011 at 7:31 am

    The snooze corner looks amazing!!!!!!!

In regards to recipes- would love to see a vegan recipe ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Heather on June 28, 2011 at 8:07 am

The way I see it, while you are harvesting a little fit one in there, resting IS being productive. It’s something you should add to your to-do list for sure. xo

  41. Maddie on June 28, 2011 at 8:21 am

Congratulations to you and the Pilot on your pregnancy!! That’s so exciting! A little nap won’t hurt ya ๐Ÿ™‚ When you make gluten-free bars… Could you please post the recipe? It’d be really appreciated by gfree people like me ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks!

AH! That weather scares me! I’m flying into Phoenix for work in a couple weeks- I’ve never been out your way!

  44. Leslie Wingate on June 28, 2011 at 8:42 am

Enjoy the sleep of the first half of the first pregnancy! It’s the best sleep I’ve ever gotten. No older kiddos to chase around and not big enough to be uncomfortable. Your body is working so hard to make a person! Take care! Congrats!

  45. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on June 28, 2011 at 8:47 am

You are so lucky you don’t have humidity there – that sounds like the perfect weather to me! I hate how it gets so humid here that I feel like I’m just walking through water. ๐Ÿ˜›

  46. tasha on June 28, 2011 at 9:10 am

I did not know that AZ wasn’t humid in their heat. I’ve only ever lived in TX and TN and there’s too much humidity to even speak of, ha! My hair does NOT thank me. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I love simple, quick recipes for one (for me), and I’m always looking for larger meals to feed my army o’six, kid-approved of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  47. GirlonRaw on June 28, 2011 at 9:39 am

Oh gosh I had to laugh, I just posted the temp on my blog as well and they are the same! So funny. And I also made a chocolate covered strawberry ‘smoothie’ on Monday for my Decadent Desserts workshop. So in sync. OH and just demolished a plate of strawbs with choc/avocado pudding.

Tell me, have you craved cheese and bread? I craved it loads when in first trimester (like your salt & vinegar cravings – me too).

I am loving your blog now with the pregnancy angle!

Oh and on rest, not sure if you’ve seen this vlog of Kris Carr’s but I love it! Let me know what you think!

  48. Rebecca on June 28, 2011 at 9:47 am

Simple recipe idea: Avocado Pineapple Feta Tacos. Just like it sounds, combine 1/2 chopped avocado, 1/2 cup pineapple, and 2 Tbsp feta into 2 small corn tortillas. If you like spicy, add a little jalapeno or spicy salsa also. Roughly 350 calories. YUM!

Tuscon sounds hot but amazing. I’ll have to make a trip there one day. Maybe it will be less humid than my neck of the woods.

  49. Chelsa on June 28, 2011 at 9:53 am

I’d like to see some summer grill recipes. I’m always trying to find new things to cook outside because It gets too hot in the kitchen during the summer. Thanks <3

I’d say some sort of cold salad…especially with heat you’re experiencing. I honestly wish the temps were like that where I live. I miss a good heat!
