Perfectly grilled salad beast
Good morning! How are you? Hope your day is going well so far <3 Thank you so much for all of the baby bump Halloween ideas… I’m excited.
So, last night I asked the grillmaster if he would mind grilling up some goods for our dinner salad beasts.
I’m so glad he loves grilling, because the clean-up is so easy, and he’s kind of a wizard at it 😉
I prepped some salmon with:
-olive oil
-sea salt and pepper
-Nama shoyu
-The juice and zest of one orange
-grated fresh ginger and crushed garlic
-a drizzle of honey
and he also grilled up some asparagus spears to go with it.
While he was outside cooking the food, I caramelized some onions and made the dressing.
The finished product:
A glorious salad beast with grilled salmon and asparagus, segmented orange, caramelized onions and orange soy vinaigrette.
Not. too. shabby.
[This is the reason why it’s easy for me to be disappointed by restaurant salads]
We took Bell for her nightly walk, finished watching Bridesmaids –it was the third time I’ve seen it, and it gets funnier every time- and called it a night.
This morning, a pre-workout bowl of oats:
[oats, Sun Warrior, berries + melted chocolate chips]
and I’m off to the gym!
What’s on your workout agenda today? If you need leg workout inspiration, the one I did yesterday left my leggies pleasantly sore.
See ya later today!
xoxo
Gina

Something to talk about: I’m very late to the Pinterest bandwagon, but I finally signed up. Are any of y’all on Pinterest? The funny thing is that I haven’t pinned anything yet (it feels like a commitment! haha) but am excited to use if for decorating, fashion and recipe inspiration.
I just started pinning – very fun!
Pinterest is my downfall…I could potentially waste hours!!!
The salmon looks glorious! My hairdresser was telling me about Pinterest, and i checked out the other day and love all the various idea/sources of inspiration on there!
As for Bridesmaids- LOVE that movie, I haven’t seen the newly released unrated DVD version though…I hear that’s quite interesting
My husband does all the grilling as well, it just works better that way (and I am terrified of using a grill).
Those cinnamon rolls look AMAZING. I might have to make them this week and bring them into work to share (so I don’t eat them all, because I know I will haha). Thanks for sharing!!
Pinterest is the best time-suck there is.
I am just starting to become addicted to Pinterest. It’s great for me to keep track of clothes that I want to buy online!
Chocolate chips in oatmeal are an amazing way to start the day =)
You’ll get excited for Pinterest. 🙂 I wasn’t sure about it either—took me a while to sign up and then I didn’t really get it—but then all of a sudden, one day I just got totally hooked!
I love pinterest! I’ll start following you on it. I’ve seen some of the cutest things EVER on it, especially for kids! It’s great for fashion and just all over super neat stuff. That salmon looks to die for… I need to learn how to cook salmon asap 🙂
I am OBSESSED with Pinterest. I’ve already planned my future wedding/house on there, and have found some pretty fabulous recipes to boot!
I’m fairly new to your blog and I LOVE it! Are all your recipes gluten free? Also, do you have a recipe for your orange soy vinaigrette? Thanks!
yep, it’s written on the notebook in the post 🙂
welcome to the little blog!
most of my recipes are gluten-free 🙂
I’ll be doing yoga at lunch and a 3 mile easy run tonight. My schedule has been so messed up lately with work and my husband starting fall term that I haven’t been working out consistently. Major unhappiness.
Totally addicted to Pinterest over here. Been on there for a few months and I still check it multiple times a day. Great ideas on there. You will DIE at the baby cuteness stuff…
Ooh my, that salmon is a thing of beauty! And with caramelized onions.. yumm. Pinterest is awesome – you can follow me here if you want! https://pinterest.com/eatspinrunrpt/ Somehow it has a way of making me feel so productive… yet I’m just sitting at my computer. LOL! 🙂
I am just starting pinterest too! And I completely agree– it feels really new (and kind of confusing) right now. But I keep hearing how addicting it is, so I’m excited to get started!
This salad looks so good. Nothing beats a nice big salad, especially one with salmon. I’m obsessed with Pinterest! I’ve pinned a lot. Probably way too much. It’s an addiction! If you’re looking for someone to follow, you can find me at: http://pinterest.com/thegrassskirt/ 🙂
I think I’m going to try swimming today– I haven’t done it in years, but I’ve been wanting to give it a go since my running has gone out the window (thanks, pregnancy). I’m a little nervous… 🙂
Salad looks yummy! I totes am disappointed when restaurant salads are a let down :S The worst is when you’re served a couple of pieces of lettuce topped with shredded cheese- really?!
I made a pinterest account a while ago but haven’t actually used it yet! Soon…
I just started Pintrest too and feel pressure because all these people started following me all the sudden and all I’ve pinned is a picture of a baby tiger!
I have an account but haven’t pinned anything yet… I think it’s because I use multiple computers, which makes it tough.
Mmm, salmon salads! I think you’ve inspired me to make salmon instead of chicken tonight. 😉
I’m going for a light run around the ‘hood.
Makes me wish I had a grill!
Pinterest is amazing! You’re going to quickly become addicted, and fab ideas come outta that website.
your salad is fantastic…it could go for $24.95 out in the LA restaurants, haha. 🙂
Avoiding pinterest…;)
I’ve never been on pinterest, but hear lots of great stories about it!
Today’s workout was a quick 10 minutes on the arc trainer for a warm up and then triceps and biceps. I hurt my foot so I’m doing a 5 day strength split in the gym this week instead of my normal pregnancy workout routine!
looooove grilled asparagus. i’m gonna have to try to recreate it this winter with the grill pan.
hi, my name is kara and i am a pinterest addict. (http://pinterest.com/kleigh28/) unfortunately, i can’t log in at work because its through facebook (or maybe this is a good thing, because it forces me to do work? or procrastinate in other ways….)
I just signed up for Pinterest too… I held out for so long. I am going to have to get that new Google Chrome timer that locks out out of websites after a specific amount of time.
I would order your salmon salad in a second if it was on the menu:)
Just think of pinterest as a better way to bookmark things. I love it, I think I may have gone overboard with the number of boards I created trying to keep it all organized lol.
ive been attempting to cook more fish around here (with a 6 month old it gets hard to ever cook!) and this looks delicious! im going to have to steal it and try it 🙂
Smoking Crayolas Blogspot
i love warm salads, especially as the weather starts getting colder. as usual, your beast looks delicious 🙂
i am a little addicted to pinterest!
Ohh your salad looks great!! I’m the same way about restaurant salads- I feel like I make really delicious salads at home, so restaurants usually have to step up their game in order for me to be impressed. And I haven’t gotten on the pinning board yet! I want to but everyone says it takes so much of their time, I’m not sure I need another thing like that!
Pinterest is addicting! I have gotten so many recipes and decorating ideas from it!
I’ll definitely be trying the leg workout today. Thanks Gina!
Haha, it is so true that it is so easy to get bored of salads at restaurants, when you can make one at home that is so awesome. I feel the exact same way. Your oats looked yummy too! I am doing P90X cardio x today, as well as some walking!
<3
That salmon looks so delicious! I love salmon, but for some reason, raw salmon makes my mouth water more than how it looks when it’s cooked. That slimy, pre-grilled salmon, definitely gave me a craving!
Your salad looks so, so good!! I need to make one of those before “grilling season” is over.
i totally agree re: salad in restaurants…that’s why i usually don’t order a 10 dollar salad when i can make an amazing salad at home. i also just started pinterest like 2 weeks!! hahah it’s soo fun!!
I did a killer leg workout as well yesterday and after doing a 1:13 minute run, I know I’m going to be SORE tomorrow! I’m making a salmon salad beast tonight with: escarole, chickpeas, tomatoes, mushrooms, red onion, red pepper, hummus, and mango salsa! It’s going to be a monster. 😉
that sounds fantastic!
I don’t even like salmon, but this looks so good! I love a good salad beast!!
So far, I did a long run this morning. If I can get all of my work done, I hope to squeeze in a weight shesh tonight before I have a meeting. Tempted to try your leg exercise!
Do you break up your cardio and strength training?
usually yes- i find that if i break them up, i get better workouts that way
I too am endlessly disappointed by restaurant salads! Your salad beast looks amazing – can’t go wrong with salmon and asparagus.
That salad looks amazing! And omg I hope that story isn’t true of the woman running a full marathon pregnant! That has got to be super dangerous!
i thought so too! she walked half, but still….
Oh my – your food makes me swoon! 😛 I tried grilling romaine after seeing it on your blog when my boyfriend and I went camping in Colorado last week, and it tasted absolutely incredible! 🙂 xyx
so glad you liked it!
my sorority is making grilled salmon for dinner tonight…I am beyond psyched!
I just posted about Pinterest in my post this morning! I posted that up until very recently I had done nothing with it either, but am really having fun with it now. Thanks for following me and finding me on there the other day. When I saw your name I was like yay, Gina! 🙂
Love the vinaigrette you made. Orange juice based dressings are always a fave of mine. Easy and flavorful. Perfect w/ that gorgeous looking salmon.
So, so jealous. And so, so hungry.
Love your posts as always, lovely!
I love pinterest! It’s my new addiction! I’m kind of new at it though, so I’m not sure what the difference is between repinning and liking and etc. But I LOOVEEE looking at everyone’s albums!
The salmon looks soooo good! Salmon is my all-time favorite food!!!!
Your oats look scrumptious- chocolate chips add an extra bit of oomph to anything!
I signed up for Pinterest too, but have yet to do anything with it either! It totally does feel like a commitment.. and I’m confused who can see what I “pin” haha.
this is ridiculous, but i saw this on another blog i read regularly and thought of you! its a $2 off 1 loaf of Rudi’s gluten-free bread coupon 🙂
http://moneysavingmom.com/2011/10/21-rudis-gluten-free-bread-printable-coupon.html
that salad looks so awesome!
workout today is running, gotta get training
I joined pinterest awhile ago, its very addicting!!! practically have my wedding planned (not even engaged) and have my future house all designed haha
Ohhh…I need to add chocolate chips to my oatmeal, that’s what it’s missing 😉
I need to see that movie. Where have I been. :)Must Netflix NOW! And….. I need to make a salad like that. No wonder you’re disappointed in restaurant salads. 🙂
