Piece of naan

Hi guys! Hope your day is going well! Iโ€™m SO STOKED itโ€™s almost the weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks to all of you guys who took this morningโ€™s April Fools post so well. I really just intended it to be light-hearted and funny and some people were offended by it. For the record, there is nothing wrong with a pulled pork sandwich..and there is EVERYTHING wrong with a cookie diet ๐Ÿ™‚ For a certain girl to say I was encouraging forbidden attitudes about food by my post was a virtual slap in the face.. especially since I try to encourage positive thoughts about food and fitness :/

Anywho,

I did indeed make Indian Food last night ๐Ÿ™‚

indian

The only daunting thing about Indian cuisine is the amount of spices you need

 coriander

(I had fun smashing up the coriander)

And the amount of chopping required.

veg

After that, itโ€™s a piece of naan ๐Ÿ˜‰

I made some channa masala using this recipe.

channa

And some of my favorite, Baigan Bhartha, using this recipe. Thanks so much to Sonia for sending it to me ๐Ÿ™‚

baigan

They came out fiery and supah SPICY!!!!

I warned the pilot, but he said he could handle it ๐Ÿ˜‰

ready

*swoon*

Complete with garlic naan for the pilot (store-bought), it was a perfect little Indian feast.

indian

Iโ€™m really not sure how that wine got in there ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well Iโ€™m off to chill with the pilot, who got off work EARLY today, then head to work.

Have a great day <3

Gina

Have you had Indian cuisine before?? Whatโ€™s your favorite dish? If not, what are you waiting for?! ๐Ÿ™‚

without hesitation, palak paneer is my fave. yummy creamy spinach with Indian cheese that’s been simmering in a slow cooker for hours = heaven.
My bf is vegan, so I make the palak with tahina and oil, then add the paneer to my portion. So good. Indian comfort food.

I never said you encourage forbidden attitudes, but I absolutely think that you encourage people to avoid certain foods–such as white bread. I think it’s impossible for you to deny that, and perhaps you are the one who needs to “meditate or do some yoga”

    • Fitnessista on April 1, 2010 at 4:02 pm

ok, if you shouldn’t avoid certain types of food, if i person drank bacon grease all day, that would be ok? i have nutritional reasons for the way i eat and i am always sure to encourage readers to do what’s right for THEM, not for me.
i do plenty of yoga, thank you.
if you don’t like how i write my blog or what i do or have to say, please don’t read it.

    • Diane on April 1, 2010 at 4:22 pm

Megan, I have read the Fitnessista’s blog from the start and I have to disagree with you. She chooses to eat whole grains vs. white because it’s healthier and makes her feel, well, healthy. But she doesn’t avoid them at all costs-did you see her recent post about her meal at The Melting Pot? She indulged and did so happily. You don’t have to agree with the way someone eats, but it also shouldn’t bother you that much. Just don’t read it anymore.

    • Shelly on April 1, 2010 at 4:44 pm

You know what- I don’t think that it’s harmful to encourage people to avoid certain foods. I had a nutritionist tell me flat out that she would rather drink human urine than something sweetened with splenda. It’s a gross analogy, but she sure made her point.
I do think it’s it’s harmful to tell people to restrict their caloric intake excessively or exercise excessively or focus on their weight at the expense of their health, of course.
But telling people to avoid white bread and red meat isn’t harmful to anyone.
I will confess that I’m writing this as my dad awaits a biopsy to see if he has prostate cancer (at 56, he’s pretty young to get it and we’re hoping he doesn’t have it, but it’s still nerve wracking)- and the biggest risk factor for getting it, other than being an older man, obviously, is a diet full of animal fat from red meat. My dad goes on Atkin’s every time he tries to lose weight (and also has high cholesterol and blood pressure)- he’s a perfect example of someone neglecting their health in favor of their waistline and their fondness for pork sausage.
So I think that if bloggers like Gina set an example of virtually no red meat and no white flour, most people would be encouraged to *lessen* their intake of foods like that b/c they aren’t good for you. And any nutritional value you can get from those foods, you can also get from a better, healthier source.
I don’t eat exactly like any of the bloggers I read- I pick and choose from the information I get from them (and other sources) to eat and workout in a way that works for me and my body. Sometimes that includes white flour and red meat, but it generally does not.
I wonder how you feel about the studies that just came out saying that fatty and sugary foods are addictive? http://www.foodconsumer.org/newsite/Nutrition/Food/meat_chocolate_coffee_and_sugar_food_addiction_2903101122.html
I don’t think that loving yourself the way you are gives you free rein to eat things that will hurt you down the road. Yes, it’s bad to beat yourself up over a particular thing you eat and bad to eat a certain way based only on how it will affect your weight- but I don’t think that the bloggers you mentioned in your post do that.
For me, healthy food and fitness go hand in hand with loving myself. In the short term, they make me feel good and energetic and they allow me to take active vacations full of outdoor sports and walking around new places without worrying about the limitations of my body. And in the long term, I hope that they will allow me to have a better quality of life in my old age.

      • Megan on April 1, 2010 at 5:31 pm

My post was less about Fitnessista specifically (although she certainly took it very personally) and more about the healthy living blog food culture in general. It defintiely seems like people are mroe restrictive about certain types of foods than others. For example, while Gina doesn’t eat a lot of white sugar or splenda, lots of other bloggers do, even though they’d never ever consider eating other types of “bad” foods. It was just more a commentary on the way that foods get vilified in the blog world. I’m not saying that this blog is on some sort of crusade to “force” people to stop eating any type of food. However, it does embody a certain food philisophy that tries to avoid certain types of foods, which is somehitng that I don’t personally do, for lots of reasons. I read this, and lots of other blogs who embody food ideas that I dont necessarily agree with. I feel I can read opinions that I’m not going to embody in my own life. My post wasn’t about being a “hater,” and I think that the response it elicited from a handful of readers/bloggers was actually completely emblematic of the interesting habits in the healthy living blog subculture that I was describing! It’s sad to me that having a different opinion could be construed as “attacking” or “hating”–and elicit some pretty mean comments in “retaliation”.

    • Molly @fuelherup on April 1, 2010 at 5:31 pm

I love Fitnessista, but I also enjoyed Megan’s article and thought she made a good point. I thought her article was thoughtful and respectful and she certainly wasn’t chewing anyone else.
Your joke was funny, but I think Megan made a good point.
The “White bread isn’t so bad” line kind of got to me” but not so much that I felt the need to say anything. Everyone’s at different points in their diet, and let’s face it: If anyone had eaten pork the night before read it, they would have felt absolutely awful.

    • jessica on April 1, 2010 at 6:00 pm

In my opinion, Gina was writing the post from HER point of view, joking about eating things are are totally unlike HER. Obviously, if you eat meat then the pulled pork sandwich would totally look good to you. But the point was that Gina advocates eating healthy on her blog and eating pulled pork on white bread and the cookie diet are not healthy. Personally, I think it’s really sad that this has to cause a controversy, it’s a friggen joke people.

Seriously…. Whos blog is this? Ginas… Right! Thats who writes this blog and thats who this blog is about. I do not EVER see her say that we need to stop eating white bread and go for millet (although it is delishious). SHE chooses to not eat it for HER. If I wanted to eat white bread I would. I have reasons why I don’t. Just like you have reasons why you do. WOW… not going any farther. G, I love you, see you at Zumba soon.

“encouraging forbidden attitudes about food”??? WHAT?! Some people are just crazy. If whoever said that actually read your blog on a regular basis, they would know that you always mention that your philosophy on food is what works for YOU and you never come across sounding like you ban certain foods. In fact, that’s one of my favorite things about your blog; you eat very well the majority of the time, but you definitely keep it real with some indulgences once in a while.

    Haters stink. You rock. ๐Ÿ™‚

Gina, I love your blog and think you rock. Without sounding like a total corn ball, through reading your blog I honestly feel like I’m a more positive and upbeat person who makes healthier decisions FOR ME. I always start my day off by reading your posts and am driven to think more positively about myself because you promote such a great attitude. You’re not pushy about your choices and you’re always so grateful to your bloggies. Keep it up girlfriend.

  18. Deja on April 1, 2010 at 4:34 pm

I read your blog every day, but don’t comment much because I’m shy. But I just have to say: the thing I loved about your April Fool’s joke is that it DIDN’T fool me, not for a second. Why? Because you are a reliable source of sane, clean eating. I never fail to be impressed. Thank you for setting that example. Sorry not everyone “got it.”

  19. Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin on April 1, 2010 at 4:36 pm

I love Indian food! My favorites are vindaloo, tikka masala, and palak paneer.

  20. Joy on April 1, 2010 at 4:43 pm

I was wondering (only a rhetorical question – not looking for a response), AND in no way trying to be mean (I saw your previous response to the above comment and understand you’re tense), but if you market you blog, ENCOURAGE a comments section, and encourage a diverse readership then wouldn’t you expect some conflict? I read the girl’s post and she had a thoughtful and valid opinion – I don’t totally agree with everything she had to say, but her tone wasn’t rude. Not everyone will always agree with you in the same way you do not agree with someone who eats a high animal protein Atkinsish diet to stay healthy and thin. You’re putting your thoughts out to world and asking for people to read and comment. I think it’s only fair that you at least act professionally instead of slandering them on Twitter or your own blog in retort. Again, not trying to be mean or rude, but probably won’t be reading your blog anymore… I can give myself the “please don’t read it” speech.

    • katie on April 1, 2010 at 5:36 pm

I’m also, rhetorically, wondering the same thing. This–backlash against a commenter who states an opinion different from the blogger, both on the blog and through “mean commenter!”-esque tweets–seems to be sadly somewhat common among healthy living blogs. It’s caused me to stop reading a lot of them. I haven’t ever seen this kind of reaction here before, and it really is disappointing to me. This has been one of my favorite blogs for a long time, but I want to know that I can post dissenting opinions–if they come up–without worrying I’m going to be jeered at.

      • Molly @fuelherup on April 1, 2010 at 6:14 pm

I 100% agree. She has a relatively small blog. If you read this post, it sounds like she was wrote some attacking post, when really her article was fine- more than fine. I also may choose to stop reading – haven’t made up my mind just yet, as I’ve been reading for a long time and until now haven’t really taken issue.

      • Ashley on April 1, 2010 at 6:16 pm

I agree with both Joy and Katie. Well said.

        • gina (fitnessista) on April 1, 2010 at 6:25 pm

          hey ladies,
it wasn’t backlash at a commenter at all. it was a full-up post that was centered around what caitlin and i wrote this morning, which were just supposed to be for fun.
i have no problem with people who express differing opinions– that what makes a discussion more fun! many people have disagreed with me in the past (like on the whole foods discount policy and jillian’s diet pills) and i loved reading everyone’s point of view, whether or not i agreed with it.
i don’t want to lose any of you as readers. i have no problem with pulled pork or white bread, but choose not to eat it myself for the most part.
it just hasn’t been a good day.

        • Linda on April 1, 2010 at 6:33 pm

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. I think the issue isn’t what these two girls discussed in their blog(I mean blogs are supposed to be all about your own opinions-freedom of speech), but how you are acting towards each other is what is so bothersome. Gina-I’ve read your blog for a while for motivation, and have loved all the tips, but reading all your comments towards Megan is turning me off from your usually upbeat personality. I’m not really sure I care to read your blog anymore. Actually make that a no. be a little more mature next time and understand people can comment however they want. You have a blog honey-A website open to the world! And it doesn’t always mean everyone’s gonna say nice things.

    • gigi on April 1, 2010 at 6:28 pm

i wanted to comment on the pork post but held my tongue but im glad to see some people feel my frustration. you put yourself out there so take the blows as they come. you took a jab at people who choose that kind of lifestyle by mocking them in that post. think about the message that is being sent to the people who are just finding their way or recovering from eating issues. if they actually do eat pork or white bread, how do you think they reacted to seeing you mock them? people actually look up to you and see you as a role model.

dont be defensive…you asked for it.

      • Dee on April 1, 2010 at 6:46 pm

I have to jump in here- I eat white bread, and didn’t take ANY offense to the joke, the joke is funny as heck if you read this blog often enough to know Gina’s habits. Example:

A friend of mine ‘fooled’ today that he was going off facebook because he needed to spend his time doing better things. I wouldn’t expect anyone who actually WANTED to go off facebook for that reason, to feel offended. What was funny about his joke was that he is on facebook 24/7- if you know that about him, the joke was again, funny as heck because it diverged so strongly from his personal habits.

I just can’t understand why anyone would feel bad about that joke post. And although I wouldn’t go on a cookie diet, I eat cookies sometimes and I STILL wasn’t offended!

        • Sarah Anne on April 1, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Dee – I’m with you. I read it and took it just as she meant it, a joke because it was a post SOOOOO different to her usual habits. I didn’t take the post to mean “oooh, white bread is bad!”, for that matter – I never take food bloggers posts on what THEY CHOOSE to eat/do/read/say to be gospel. Most, like Gina, are great at saying “do what’s right for you”. Sure, they are (in my opinion) often good support, and good examples.

Stopping reading someone you’ve read and enjoyed over a joke post that was not MEANT with any malice at all? Or not being able to understand how she may have felt attacked? Come on. Sometimes, I think people really take things just too far and maybe read into things a bit too much. Then again – to each his own.

For what it’s worth Gina, I found your joke post good humoured, good natured and I love what you do. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on April 2, 2010 at 10:32 am

      hey catherine,
try some of the tandoori (grilled) items– they usually go pretty light on the spices. channa masala (the chickpea dish) is usually a safe bet too. there’s also a spinach one that’s AWESOME ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. Amara on April 1, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Hey Dej! (my sister!). Good for you with the Indian food. Love the Saag too (and it’s got a ton of spinach although it’s all cooked down pretty far). Have you ever tried to make whole wheat Naan? not that hard especially if you’ve got a good pizza stone and so yummy when it’s fresh out of the oven….

  33. Nicole on April 1, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Okay, so I usually don’t post comments unless something really doesn’t sit well with me or I find something to be just so good I have to comment. I absolutely have to comment about this conflict going on.
I recently started reading a bunch of different healthy eating food blogs (there must be a reason they are healthy food blogs, after all wouldn’t it be kind of insane for the bloggers to tell us that we can be our healthiest if we stuff our face with white bread and fried chicken daily?)anyways, off the soap box… I started reading this blog because I have eaten things like white bread, white flour, etc. for my entire life- I consequently have gained weight the older I got. In 9th and 10th grade I was a size 5 and could eat whatever I wanted- doing this got me to 220 lbs and I have been stuck there for the past 5 years. I needed to find a lifestyle change to get and keep this weight off and become healthy. I just had twins and want to be here for a very long time to see them grow- sorry but white bread is not the way. I have now found that breakfast cookies keep me so full for so long as opposed to no breakfast at all or sugar laden cereals. My point in saying all of that is this: This is a blog about healthy living and I am so shocked that anyone reading it would have something negative to say it. These bloggers pour their lives into this and sincerely try to help people and show them the right way to eat and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I really don’t know what else to say except that I really appreciate this blog and hope that it is around for a long time. I don’t know why there always has to be negative people out there- maybe they haven’t had enough yoga in their lives ๐Ÿ™‚ Okay, I’m stopping now before I take up a whole comments page with my opinions.

  34. Mia on April 1, 2010 at 5:39 pm

I love me some Indian food! My husband and I just discovered a “new to us” Indian restaurant here in Charleston. The service may be a tad slow, but the people are fantastic and the food was phenomenal. We both wanted to lick our plate clean! On the nights that we are saving money, though, I do whip out some really good Indian food of my own. Nothing compares to homemade naan!

  35. Alison on April 1, 2010 at 5:50 pm

I’ve said many times how much I love your blog (and I pretty much read it every day!) I was a little embarrassed at the joke only because fries and white bread are definitely something I WOULD eat as a splurge or reward. I was like, “yay! See! Even Gina splurges sometimes!” But then when I realized it was a joke – felt a little shamed like you were saying “oh no! I would NEVER ACTUALLY do that!”

I think the above commenter was right that the girl who wrote the blog definitely didn’t attack you personally but you seemed to take it that way and respond kind of nastily. I’d take it as a compliment that
    A. People like me take a lot of stock in and respect your opinion and choices and
    B. Your blog was a big and popular enough example to make it into the review of someone who wanted to make their own statement.

No matter which way you shake it – people really do appreciate and regard your opinion! I totally took the joke the wrong way (my bad, not yours) and I know now you meant nothing but to be lighthearted.

That Indian food looks so delicious! I looked at the recipes you followed, and I have to admit that I’m not even familiar with some of the spices involved…nonetheless I may have to give it a shot. Like the other commenter who mentioned this, I usually just get my Indian food from Trader Joe’s! Also, without saying too much about this ongoing conflict (which you’re probably sick of people talking about, but sorry, couldn’t help myself), I just wanted to say that I find your blog inspiring for so many reasons. I love that you focus on the fact that you’re choosing to eat delicious yet nutritious whole foods – you never say things like, “I really wanted X, Y, Z but knew I should eat a salad beast so ate it even though I wanted something different.” Your diet is obviously not one of deprivation, but of truly enjoying the good for you foods that you opt to eat! Also you are so happy and upbeat, not to mention funny. Anyway, what I am trying to say via this ridiculously long-winded comment is that I love your blog, don’t want you to change anything about your approach to eating/living/blogging, and that I laughed out loud when I read your morning post today because I thought it was funny. The end.

yeah i guess i took the joke the worng way as well…i didnt as mad as others did … but i can see why some people had the reactions they did. when i saw that you were eating that i kind of thought to my self “wow, gina can completly live a healthy life and feel comfortable with a slurge every now and then, good for her” but when i found out it was a joke i kinda felt like you were saying a splurge like that would be unacceptable and that you would never do something like that. i felt like you were saying that you have to eat perfect all the time. maybe not the right type of post for someone who had such a dedicated following of people who highly respect what you say…. still love your blog though… i just felt i needed to share this.. please dont take this the wrong way.. just sharing my opinion

I loved your post – I actually believed it for a minute or two. People who can’t take a joke seriously need to lighten up! Happy almost weekend!

  42. Rebecca on April 1, 2010 at 6:32 pm

I have to agree with Megan. I’ve enjoyed following your blog for a while. However, as someone who’s counseled many individuals with eating disorders, there is definite restrictive practices(& often unrealistic) on this blog. I would suspect that many of your blog followers are struggling with disordered eating. I don’t know anyone without an ed that could follow these eating habits. In fact, many of my fellow blog friends have stopped reading this blog for these very reasons.

    • Linda on April 1, 2010 at 7:01 pm

I couldn’t agree more. Gina-sometimes your exercise obsession and eating habits borderline disordered. I said this in the comments above-I’ve been a reader for a while, but I have recently been turned off by your disordered ways. I mean not being able to work out for 2 weeks drove you so crazy that I hated reading your posts b/c I knew you were going to complain about NOT being able to exercise. I don’t think it’s as healthy as you think because I think you are too restrictive. You eat very clean, but sometimes I think it’s not mentally healthy. If you actually ate the pulled pork and fries, and WHITE BREAD-it wouldn’t hurt you. Everything in moderation is key. My mom has been eating white bread and red meat her entire life and is 56 yrs old, 5 feet and 100 lbs. She is the healthiest person I know b/c she is the epitome of balance and moderation. I think you should practice that more often. Just a thought.

      • Krista on April 1, 2010 at 11:47 pm

Linda, If you were so upset about her “exercise obsession” why did you read her blog in the first place? Have you every had to sit out because of injury? It sucks. I totally understood what Gina was going through and could relate to her frustration. She wasn’t saying OMGGGG I CAN’T WORKOUT! I’M GOING TO GET FATTT!!! she was frustrated that her body wasn’t cooperating and allowing her to do something that she loves to do. She didn’t even complain about it that much.

White bread is gross, end of story. Its pretty much just glue in your stomach and has absolutely no nutritional value. If you want to eat it regularly or even just “splurge on it” that’s your decision. There is nothing mentally unhealthy about choosing not to eat something that does your body no good. Moderation is key… but not EVERYTHING. You wouldn’t sit down and eat a bowl of sugar would you? Based on your arguments that would be an okay thing to do every once and a while, healthy even. Who are we, even as loyal readers, to tell Gina what she should and should not be practicing? She puts her lifestyle in a blog but I cannot recall her ever once telling someone that they SHOULD do something.

    • Bethany on April 2, 2010 at 2:32 am

oh, yes..eating lots of vegetables is just TERRIBLE. trying to get lots of nutrients is a sign that gina needs HELP. avoiding processed foods makes gina ANOREXIC. and don’t even get me started on raw almond butter. WTF ALMOND BUTTER WITHOUT SUGAR AND TRANS FATS?!?!?! that’s just GROSS.

/end sarcasm. seriously though, there is nothing wrong with eating healthy. if gina doesn’t want refined carbs, then she is all the more healthy for it. and she even has a “treat night” where she can splurge a bit. I didn’t intend to comment on any of these but this just pissed me off. gina is always talking about confidence and encouraging women to feel good about themselves. and since when has being a healthy eater become a bad thing? it really disgusts me that people would say that gina has a problem for eating TOO healthfully. and as for the exercise, SHE IS A TRAINER. of course she exercises a lot. anyway, i am done ranting. i love this blog and i kind of feel like i know gina through the postings, so i feel like i get a bit defensive when people are saying ridiculous things. its one thing to have a dissenting opinion, which is fine, but its another to attack her and claim that she has a problem. i don’t mean to be mean, but gina is awesome and people seriously need to stop nitpicking.

I love, love, love Indian food and can’t pick a favorite. Thanks for the Masala recipe- I’ve recently been saying to myself I wanted to make some with the random can of chickpeas that’s been in my cabinet for some time. Your recipe link is the trigger I needed.

Also- you seem to already have this figured out, but since you mentioned it, I hope you don’t spend too much energy on ANGRY!!! commenters. People who have their wits about them can always find a way to express dissent in a way that is non-attacking; they also know how to take a joke.

People who don’t have their wits about them do not warrant any response other than head-shaking zen-like compassion for their mental health struggles, then not another thought!

OK, I thought the April Fool’s joke was funny, and I can’t BELIEVE it sparked such controversy. It was very clear that you were being light-hearted.

Um, OF COURSE you encourage people to avoid certain foods – it’s a healthy living blog! Anyone offended by the post is taking him/herself way too seriously. I don’t understand why some people want to try to pick apart messages and read between the lines – IT WAS A JOKE.

Gina, it wasn’t insensitive. I’m glad you have the sense of humor you do. ๐Ÿ™‚

(P.S. As someone in recovery from eating disorders, I don’t take the topic of food attitudes lightly…except when it’s INTENDED to be taken that way! ;))

Wow-what a comments section. I can see both points of view though. None the less your Indian food looks amazing. I am too scared to even try Indian food!

  48. Jennie {in Wonderland} on April 1, 2010 at 7:06 pm

I think white bread and pork are hideous, so I have no problem with the joke. Seriously, I thought it was pretty funny and I totes fell for it too. Except for the bit about ‘not feeling like Indian food’. Not our G$!

Really, I think it’s best not to read too much into how someone lives their life. You may be a special snowflake, but not everything is to do with you. How Gina eats? NOT ABOUT YOU. You can be offended all you want, but Gina’s decision to treat her body with respect was probably not made with you in mind. [I mean ‘you’ generically here…]

I didn’t think Megan’s blog post was especially mean-spirited, but it did call Gina and Caitlin out, so they had a right to respond – and respond as they saw fit. It’s all a dialogue, isn’t it? It was an interesting discussion – especially in terms of gender constructs in the blog world. I definitely see the sweet/savoury thing.

Hugs to this bloggy. I love it and I’m not going anywhere. <3

    • Ashley on April 1, 2010 at 7:08 pm

So, eating a pork sandwich and cookies is considered dis-respecting your body? How so?

      • Jennie {in Wonderland} on April 1, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Ashley, this is exactly what I meant by ‘not about you’. Nowhere in that particular thought did I reference pork and cookies.

What I actually meant is that it’s well-documented that Gina is a wicked healthy eater, exercises and takes care of herself. Yes, she has mad respect for her body – in lots of different ways, not just diet-wise. But her decision to live this kind of life probably wasn’t motivated by how someone on the Internet might feel about it.

I just don’t see why people are taking this so personally. Really.

        • Fitnessista on April 1, 2010 at 7:43 pm

i don’t really understand either. especially since i really don’t care how other people want to fuel their body– it’s a personal decision.
thanks for your awesome comments, jennie ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Ashley on April 1, 2010 at 7:59 pm

You said “but Ginaโ€™s decision to treat her body with respect was probably not made with you in mind.” That implies that since she doesn’t eat pork/cookies/etc that she is treating her body with respect. So all those who eat those sorts of things, are NOT treating their body w/ respect.

          • Fitnessista on April 1, 2010 at 8:17 pm

i think she meant that i do what’s best for me, not what other people want me to do. which is 100% true

  49. Susan @ Journey for Health on April 1, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Wow. I haven’t read all the comments in this post, but I have to say that I personally don’t see an issue with the April Fool’s post. Frankly, I didn’t take the specifics of eating white bread or pork in the post to be any sort of jab at anyone. It was merely DIFFERENT from what you normally would choose to eat. That’s why I totally loved it and was wondering what was going on ๐Ÿ˜›

The thing I love most about reading my health blogs is to get different ideas about food that I maybe hadn’t considered before. And I have to say that I am not a raw food eater and do still eat white bread when I can’t eat wheat, and I eat pork. I was not offended in ANY way. I am an overweight reader who is trying to lose weight and I pretty much take what suggestions (that are really not even suggestions, just what you happen to eat) I find in the blog. I understand that what YOU eat isn’t for everyone. I’m totally cool with that and I don’t see why others have a problem.

Keep posting a fabulous blog and please don’t feel the need to censor yourself in any way. You’re posting about your life and your choices, not suggesting they are “better” than anyone else’s or mocking/criticizing others if they eat specifically what you do not.

    <3
