Plane Bloggin’

Hi guys! How are you? Hope youโ€™re having a great morning <3 So glad you liked the yoga/pilates style workout. It was fun to do something a little different Smile

I woke up early as balls (excuse the language, haha) to get to the airport for FOODBUZZ fest!

airport

Quite a few blog friends are on my flight to San Fran- itโ€™s going to be a party! Smile

I checked my giant suitcase (which was 2 lbs too heavy- macaroons are heavy, haha), and am lugging around the Mary Poppins bag.

bag

Full of surprises!

-Netbook

-Supplements

-Notebook for blog ideas/workouts/to-dos/life

-makeup (Iโ€™m waiting until Iโ€™m fully awake until I do the eyeliner thang)

-Snacks (protein powder, granny smith apple, Vega bar) +

snack

(cashew butter on a GF English muffin)

-Reading material

book

(A bloggy suggested this to me for low sugar, GF ideas- love it so far! Iโ€™ve read all of Natalia Roseโ€™s other books and theyโ€™re incredible. I take what she says with a grain of sea salt, though- Iโ€™m not down with food combining but I am down with healthy, high-raw recipes)

Well Iโ€™m off to board the plane! Have a beautiful day and Iโ€™ll see ya from SAN FRAN! Smile

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: What do you pack for airport snacks? My faves are breakfast cookies, dehydrated fruits and veggies, almonds, protein powder to mix with Starbucks oatmeal and dark chocolate. Whatโ€™s something random you have in your bag right now? I have a roll of packing tape for when I spontaneously send the Pilot packages Smile

Have a safe trip!! My airport snack will probably look a lot like yours- fruit and a sandwich with a granola bar!

  2. Jessica (Fit and Clean) on November 4, 2010 at 8:10 am

I currently have a puppy coat in my bag for a friend, and my new fave, Oskri bars for after my workout!I guess that would be considered random, LOL. Have fun at the Fest! Jealous!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you have a good trip!

Have a great trip! I’m traveling today too! I’m on my way to kansas city to visit my brother and nephew! My carry on today is my awesome livewell 360 bag (thanks to your review I fell in love with it!) That my sweet hubby got me for my birthday. my something random that I’m traveling with are my lesson plans haha. Gotta do them sometime and I definitely don’t want to do them on my trip! Hope foodbuzz is fantastic!

  5. Jenny on November 4, 2010 at 8:35 am

I usually pack a banana or almond butter and jelly sandwich…I realize that sounds like a 5-year-old’s lunch, haha.

  6. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on November 4, 2010 at 8:37 am

    Have a safe trip!

I bring lots of random snacks for plane rides: container of oats (that I either add cold or hot water to), fruit, cut up veggies, larabars, PBJ sandwiches, hard boiled eggs.

Something random I have in my purse right now? a cork from a winebottle that I thought looked neat ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun on November 4, 2010 at 8:43 am

Have a great trip!!! All of your snack ideas sound great. I haven’t flown since caring more about health…and all the flights I have taken have been short so I’ve never really had to pack snacks.

  8. sweetkaroline on November 4, 2010 at 8:50 am

that trip sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun!

i usually pack dried fruits, nuts, apples, pretzels, and maybe a mini lara bar. nothing too heavy. i’d rather wait to land to eat a real meal;)

  9. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on November 4, 2010 at 8:58 am

Have a safe trip! My airport snack is usually some nuts. Nice and easy and better than the peanuts they serve on the plane.

  10. Liz @ Blog is the New Black on November 4, 2010 at 9:04 am

I pack nuts and some type of bar, plus fruit!!

  11. Alison (Ali on the Run) on November 4, 2010 at 9:05 am

My travel must-have is homemade trail mix. I can’t stand the pre-packaged, super-salty stuff they sell at the airport. I make mine with Cheerios, raisins, almonds, peanuts and some dark chocolate M&Ms. Delish! Oh and Larabars are a must-have when I’m on the road. After I eat one I feel full for a solid two hours.

Have a safe flight and a great trip!

  12. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on November 4, 2010 at 9:05 am

I’m so excited for you!! My plane snacks usually include raw veggies, hummus, crackers, fruit, and oatmeal pre-mixed with protein powder, cinnamon and stevia. I like to have lots of variety!

  13. salah@myhealthiestlifestyle on November 4, 2010 at 9:05 am

have a safe flight!!!! Those are such great snacks! I usually only bring a baggie of nuts and maybe some fruit with me, but I don’t usually have super long flights. Have a great time in San Fran! Love that city ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Clare @ Fitting It All In on November 4, 2010 at 9:08 am

My plane snack bags always include Justin’s AB packets, apples, bananas, luna bars and lara bars.
I actually don’t have anything too random in my bag right now…I try to keep it clean!

  15. Kiran on November 4, 2010 at 9:14 am

Have a wonderful flight and Foodbuzz ๐Ÿ™‚ I would normally pack a sandwich, fruit, granola and dried fruits. Not all, but a mix and match ๐Ÿ˜€ I have a bunch of post-its in my bag currently ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Caitlin (EatFeats) on November 4, 2010 at 9:14 am

Aw so jealous you get to be in the Bay Area. Have a fun trip!

My bag is full of random junk! I try not to look in it too much for fear of what I may find.

Your snack ideas are great–it’s so hard for me to pack appropriately large meals for plane rides! I always end up hungry or buying less-than-stellar airport food. Boo.

  17. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on November 4, 2010 at 9:15 am

I have one of her other books, and I really loved reading it! She really makes the idea of detox and raw food accessible!

  18. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on November 4, 2010 at 9:32 am

I love trail mix, dried fruits, bars, fruit if I’m not going internationally, ab&j.

Random in my purse right now… theres always something. But now it’s not too bad!

    xo

  20. Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf on November 4, 2010 at 9:44 am

I’ve only ridden on a plane four times in my life, and two of those were when I was younger than 5, so I haven’t really had much chance. I am going to Europe in the Spring, so we’ll see what I can get away with then!

Currently I have a netflix DVD and a flash drive in my purse. ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Heather (Perspective Is Everything) on November 4, 2010 at 9:45 am

i always get nervous when i take a larabar or something with peanuts on a plane, in case someone near to me has a severe peanut allergy. that would be a bad situation. several miles in the air and an anaphylactic reaction ๐Ÿ™
then again, delta serves peanuts as a snack!
i also take fruit and veggies.
have fun in san fran! ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Krystina (Organically Me) on November 4, 2010 at 9:50 am

Why aren’t you down with food combining?

  23. Raphaela on November 4, 2010 at 9:58 am

    Gina!

I have celiacs disease so I can’t have gluten either, and I have been searching far and wide for GF English Muffins! Holy Muffins! Where did you find them? Also, do they taste any good? I’m super excited to see more GF stuff on your blog!

  24. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on November 4, 2010 at 10:27 am

I love Natalia Rose’s books, too! I’ve been loosely following the Detox 4 Women plan, and I definitely think it’s helpful! (I say “loosely” follow, because I can’t cut out fruit quite as much as she recommends… I love bananas too much!) I do really enjoy food combining, though! I’ve really found it helps my digestion, and makes putting my meals together easier since I have a set of “guidelines” to follow.

My go-to plane snacks are raw almonds, fruit and Larabars. I usually bring all three, in case I get “snacky.” I also try to book early morning flights, so I can just sleep my way through– then I can eat something more fun when I get there! ๐Ÿ™‚

Random thing in my purse? Band-aids. I get blisters from my shoes all the time, and like to keep a stash of band-aids in case I need some friction-control!

  25. Beth @ Will Run for Books on November 4, 2010 at 10:37 am

I’m bad at prepping for trips…I always end up buying something sub-par. I’m going to NYC this weekend, though, so maybe I will remedy that!

Random thing in my purse = oral antiseptic. I have the canker sore from hell right now!

  26. Paige @ Running Around Normal on November 4, 2010 at 10:37 am

Too heavy by TWO pounds?! bummeriffic:(
I love dried fruit and snack mixes on planes! Apples are great too.

  27. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on November 4, 2010 at 10:42 am

I usually pack bars like Luna Bars or larabars. They travel well and are easy to eat.

Random thing in my purse? Let me look…well, I have a random tea brochure from this tea place near me. I like to whip it out during class when I get bored-true story, lol.

  28. Annie D @ Annie's Simple LIfe on November 4, 2010 at 10:43 am

    My favorite Airport stuff…

    Starbucks Tazo Tea
    RAW bars at Starbucks
    Fresh Fruit
I also like to bring almonds, Larabars or Green Bars, PB and J sammiches ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. Desi@ThePalatePeacemaker on November 4, 2010 at 10:45 am

Gina! Your traveling “Mary Poppins” bag reminds me of myself – supplements, notebook, makeup, snacks and all! Plus, now you’re gluten free like me! yayyyyy! I really like those Food For Life english muffins. What do you think? I think the multiseed ones are better than the plain, though.
    Happy travels!

  30. Leanne @ Simplicitlee on November 4, 2010 at 10:50 am

Hahaha packing tape! How often do you send him stuff?

  31. Gloria on November 4, 2010 at 10:56 am

I bring hummus+veg, mini bags of Mary’s Crack twigs ‘n sticks, and individual packs of the Justin’s Almond Butter.

I just found a star wars lego man in my purse!!!! I seriously had no idea that was there. I think my little cousins left me a present ๐Ÿ™‚ …and a bottle of stevia drops but that’s mine and I know exactly how it got there, haha.

  32. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on November 4, 2010 at 10:58 am

    Safe travels!

Yeah I’m gonna have to do some brainstorming on airplane snackage for my upcoming Thanksgiving trip. Usually when I travel it’s for work and therefore international, so they feed you – I’m not used to providing the in-flight meals for myself, terrible as that sounds! I mean, I know you can buy in-flight meals now, but…eew. No need for saltines and Land o Lakes processed cheese, thanks.

    Breakfast cookie it shall be!

  33. katelyn on November 4, 2010 at 11:00 am

we’re bag twins! i love mine!

  34. Dee on November 4, 2010 at 11:01 am

I have to ask. *blush* what kind of bag is that? I am so impressed with what you were able to fit in there!

  35. Christin L. on November 4, 2010 at 11:04 am

My random purse item is a walk through CD of the Swedish massage routine. I am in school but still don’t quite have the full routine down, so I use the CD when I practice on people! ๐Ÿ™‚

  36. Tab - Just Weighing In on November 4, 2010 at 11:16 am

I have to admit that I never eat on planes. Not ever. Not even when we flew from England back to the States (eight hour flight). I get too nervous and unfortunately it doesn’t mix well with food sometimes so I’d rather just be hungry. Not the healthiest, I realize, but it makes flying doable.

Enjoy your flight and your trip to San Francisco – love that city!

  37. sassy molassy on November 4, 2010 at 11:19 am

Have a great trip and a ton o fun at FB! I’m curious what you mean when you say Natalia Rose talks about ‘food combining’? Not sure what that means. Thanks!

  38. Jenn @ LiveWellFitNow on November 4, 2010 at 11:44 am

Snacks on the plane are my favorite to come up with! It’s all about being creative, steering away from any liquids and staying fueled. ๐Ÿ™‚

My favs: hummus sandwich w/ apple slices, homemade oat/protein/peanut butter bar, fruit galore, nuts, and naturally a stop in at Starbucks for a latte or treat for a dose of calcium and caffeine!

  39. monicanelsonfitness on November 4, 2010 at 12:11 pm

Glad the bloggers are taking over the plan!

I ALWAYS am loaded with nuts and protein bars. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have fun! I wish I were going =/
My friend and I once got stopped and searched on the way to Nicaragua because we had grapes in our bags.
Random item in my purse – a spoon! I had to go to a consulate and got my bag x-rayed and the girl looked up at me and goes, “Do you have a SPOON in your purse?” What, like you don’t?

  44. jill on November 4, 2010 at 12:44 pm

Have a safe flight! Can’t wait to hear about your experience.

Quick question, are you able to get through security with the protein powder?

  45. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on November 4, 2010 at 12:48 pm

I am not leaving until this time tomorrow….work, life, family stuff…couldn’t swing it til tomorrow at this time but WISH it was today!

I think my suitcase will be RIGHT on the weight limit as well. 50 lbs goes quickly with shoes and makeup and flat irons…haha!

I am not packing food. Other than a few stevia packets. I would rather save suitcase weight for…more clothes that I will never end up wearing LOL I may throw a bar or something in but really, am glossing over packing food…and hoping for the best.

Something random that will be in my bag…do stevia packets count ?

Happy Flying! I can’t believe that I had no idea that Foodbuzz was in San Francisco the same weekend that I’m going to be there! I’ll be in SF this weekend for the Green Festival. My mom and I go every year together for a fun little tradition. I went to school in SF so it’s always a little nostalgic for me.

My flying snacks vary, but may include: FRUIT, coconut water, lara bars or homemade date/fruit bars, nuts/seeds, and sweet veggies like carrots, cherry tomatoes, snap peas…

Something in my purse that others might find random, but is just normal to me, is my bamboo utensil set (fork, knife, spoon). It’s a to go set that clips onto the strap and comes in SUPER handy- like you wouldn’t believe. And I LOVE it!

Who knows, maybe I’ll randomly run into you in SF! Oooh you must try and make it to the Sat farmer’s market at the ferry building if possible!

  47. Shanna, Like Banana on November 4, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Almonds and granola bars are super easy to pack!

  48. Emily on November 4, 2010 at 2:25 pm

I always bring lots o bars for my flights. Also, I make a habit of stopping at my favorite salad place to grab a tasty meal to bring on the plane so I don’t have to suffer through airport food!

  49. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on November 4, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I always pack snacks when I fly – bars, pb&j sandwiches, fruit, packets of oats and trail mix are my favorites. Although, I love Starbuck’s Perfect Oatmeal when traveling as well. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a safe flight and I’ll see you in San Fran!
