Pumpkin Amazeballs
These pumpkin protein balls are the perfect seasonal healthy snack! They pack a punch of protein and healthy fat in delicious dessert-like bites.
It was a low-key, laid back day- everything a holiday should be.
Got the Bob tire fixed (!)
took it for a spin at the dog park
lunch at Chippodle (my fave fast place, and Liv loves it too)
and a grocery haul.
Someone restrain me from the pumpkins.
It’s funny because I don’t even use them too often during the season (“too often” is subjective, baha), but I just love having access to them. Like candy corn, they seem like such a lovely seasonal treat.

I remember buying them last year and eventually cutting into one to figure out what the heck they were. I can’t remember or find the post for the life of me- guess I’ll have to experiment again.
As pumpkin seems to creep it’s way into every nook and cranny of my life, it only makes sense for one of my favorite snacks to be pumpkin-ifiedโฆ
Pumpkin Protein Balls
aka amazeballs!
These are less dense than the original version, and can easily be customized to suit your personal tastes.
PrintPumpkin Spice Amazeballs
Ingredients
- 4 T of dry ingredients (protein powder, oats, coconut, almond meal or any combo of those. I used oats and coconut)
- 2 T nut butter
- 2 T pumpkin puree (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/4 t cinnamon
- 1/8 t nutmeg
- 1/8 t cloves
- pinch of dried ginger
- pinch of sea salt
- splash of vanilla extract
- Sweetener of choice (I rolled with Stevia, but if you like to use liquid sweetener, you may have to add to the dry ingredients).
Instructions
- Pulse the dry ingredients in the food processor until you have a powder.
- Add in the reminding ingredients and pulse to combine.
- Taste a little bit for spice and sweetness- adjust as needed. (If you use maple syrup or honey as your sweetener, you may have to add more dry ingredients)
- The mixture will be very wet. Do not be afraid- just roll into balls using your hands or melon scooper and store in the fridge to harden slightly. In the fridge overnight allows the flavors to mingle and they taste even better.

I love those pumpkin trees too! I already had to throw mine away though, because it started to get moldy. Do you put water in your vase? I’m thinking that I put too much in mine?

OHMYGOSH. This recipe has made my day!!! As a dry ingredient, can we use 4 tbsp of cocoa powder instead? Oh, and can we use fresh & minced ginger instead of dried? (Or ground?)

First off, I realize this is a totally strange question, but since you are a native to Tucson, I figure you might have some advice. This is my second year living in Tucson- I go to UA for graduate school. Anyway, long story short, this weekend, I saw a tiny translucent pink lizard/gecko in my closet in my house! I freaked out! I tried to lock him in there and sealed the door by shoving a towel in the crack, but I don’t think that worked because just this morning, I saw him in my closet AGAIN!
People keep telling me that these little guys are 100% harmless and actually eat crickets and spiders that might be in the house, but I can’t help but feel a little icked out by the thought of him crawling around while I am sleeping at night.
So, I am wondering, is there a way to get these guys to leave for good, or do I just need to get used to him because they are unavoidable in Tucson. Ugh I am sorry for such a long silly comment, I am just freaking out and I figured you would probably feel not so good about little lizard/geckos in your house too…

yes, they’re totally harmless- don’t be afraid. the best way would be to make sure your doors are sealed well, and maybe get an exterminator to come out. lavender oil is also a great way to get rid of insects- they hate the smell of it. when seasons change, the creepy crawlies come out. we had a couple of scorpions a couple of weeks ago, but since the exterminator came and sprayed outside, we haven’t seen any (knock on wood!)

Thank you! Since I am renting the house, I think my best bet is to email my landlord and start with the lavender oil. Do you just burn it in an oil burner around the house? Thank you so so much for the advice!

Ran right out and got pumpkin and scurried home to make these. I added carob chips and used 2T coconut flour and 2T vanilla whey protein. They’re so good I ate one before they had even set :S

Ohh, I love your amazeballs and already made the pumpkin version!
I used oat bran and rice protein for the dry ingredients, and sunflower seed butter. They turned out delicious, love it! Ate 2 as part of my afternoon snack and saved the other two in the freezer for later – I usually make lots of balls and keep them in a zipbag in the freezer, then take as many as I need/want and bring along with me/eat!

I made and ate all 4 today then made another batch!
Made these last night with coconut flour in lieu of oats and shtuff, and cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and a smidgen of black pepper instead of pumpkin spices. So good! I’ve been loving cayenne pepper with pumpkin lately ๐ Thanks for the recipe!
Good idea to use coconut flour. I made mine with oat bran + rice protein for the dry and these were awesome!

Just made these tonight- they are in the freezer now! We used cookie butter (speculoos), oats, ground almonds, pecan pieces, and rolled them in cinnamon sugar! Can’t wait!!
For the amazaballs, did you use shredded coconut or coconut flour?

Any recommendation for a nut butter substitution???? We have allergies ๐

Hmmmmm….not entirely….I could use pumpkin or sunflower seed….but if I wanted to do nut/seed free what are your thoughts?
Another thought….maybe I could use a Chia gel…it wouldn’t form as well but could do the trick.
i’m not sure of a good nut/seed-free option since the nut butter really gives it the consistency. sunflower seed butter if you can! and yes, chia gel would work in a pinch, but they wouldn’t taste or look the same

How many balls does this recipe make? The quantities are so small?
it only makes 4-5 balls! you can always double the recipe if you’d like more
