Rest in peace, iPizzle

Helllooooooo ๐Ÿ˜€ How are ya doing?

A good friend died today:

ipizzle

I will say it had a long a full life. After getting me through a half marathon, countless runs, cardio and weight sessions, the iPizzle bit the dust. The flashing lights of death happened this morning โ€“which is when the light blinks orange and green- and no sound, no nothing. This is exactly what happened last year at this time with my old shuffle, so Iโ€™ve been โ€œborrowingโ€ the pilotโ€™s shuffle ever sinceโ€ฆand now it is dead. Iโ€™m starting to wonder if I should get a new shuffle or if I should bite the bullet and get an iPizzle that will last a little longer. Thoughts?

Iโ€™m not sure what my deal is with technology lately, but between my heart rate monitor dying and now this, maybe Iโ€™m destined to work out without technology.. maybe Rocky style?

The good news is that Bella boo seems to be back to her normal self and Iโ€™m definitely making some headway in my โ€œput the casa back together since I was gone for so longโ€ mission.

I had 1/2 nanner with mesquite and cinnamon for snack (Iโ€™m out of almond butter!!! The tragedy!)

nannermescinn

And for lonchi, I was in the mood for an omelet.

I roasted a zucchini, some eggplant, sweet onion, garlic and tomatoes (with olive oil, sea salt and pepper) at 375 for 40 minutes while I cleaned. Then, I started the omelet (1 organic egg + 2 egg whites) and filled it with spinach, roasted veggies and goat gouda (because itโ€™s so gouda)

before the flip

It came out beautifully!

omeletsalad

On the side, I had a small greens salad with bell pepper, balsamic and EVOO.

After my food digested a little, I did 55 minutes of yoga in the guest room. 15 minutes of Dave Farmar (before I got distracted with all of his talking and turned it off), 20 minutes of Power Yoga #3 (YogaDownload.com — this one was KILLER!!!) and 20 minutes of Detox Challenge Flow #2 (YogaDownload.com). I feel so zen now ๐Ÿ˜‰

Snack:

sweetaterfilling

Leftover filling from last nightโ€™s sweet tater and the pathetic amount of Maryโ€™s Crack I left myself in the container ๐Ÿ˜€

Time to get ready for work!

See ya later, bloggies <3

Much love,

G$

I have the iPod touch and to be honest – I HATE the touch while working out. My hands get sweaty and it is tough to change a song if I don’t like it. It’s also so HUGE that I can’t even wear it on my arm. I actually want a shuffle or nano just for working out.

  2. Susan on October 27, 2009 at 4:09 pm

I think the shuffles have a short lifespan anyways, I never even got a year out of mine. I had an old-school Nano that lasted 2 years before I lost it. Bought a newer Nano over 6 months ago and still works like new! Big enough to be fancy but not so big it gets in the way when you’re working out ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Rebekah on October 27, 2009 at 4:28 pm

I love my nano, but if I was using it just for working out I’d get a shuffle. The shuffles are only $50 or so now, a nano would have to last 5 times as long to be worth it and the new nano doesn’t have anything extra that your crackberry doesn’t.

  4. Amanda on October 27, 2009 at 4:28 pm

I’m agreeing with the others regarding a smaller ipod for working out. I have the touch and I actually do have an armband for it, but I never actually change songs bc its so annoying. Maybe a Nano?

I also hear ya on Dave Farmar’s incessant talking!! I have never made it through a full podcast of his because sometimes I just need to focus on my breath, not his little comments!!!

  5. VeggieGirl on October 27, 2009 at 4:28 pm

No more iPod AND you’re out of almond butter??? Hang in there ๐Ÿ™

  6. Shari B. on October 27, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Hey Gina! I have both an iPhone and a Nano. Like Jessica said, I don’t like my iPhone (same as iTouch) for exercise at all, but I LOVE the nano. I’m on my second Nano, but not because one died. It was because I was given a new one as a gift, so I sold my previous one on eBay. I had my first Nano for 2 yrs before I sold it and never had a single issue with it. Ny new Nano has now been with me for over a year.

My vote is get a Nano – you’ll LOVE it!

  7. Allison on October 27, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Oh nooo…so sad about the IPod! I’m sure my Shuffle’s day will come veryy soon too. I didn’t know they don’t usually last very long (yikesss)! But they’re the best for working out because of their size (not to mention that awesome little clip they got goin on haha)you may want to just get a new one rather than spend alot more on something bigger.

Glad to hear little Bella is getting better!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Tammy Eros on October 27, 2009 at 4:32 pm

I love my nano..it still seems to be going strong. I also have a shuffle, but I like having a bigger music selection, depending on my mood that day…

  9. Teresa on October 27, 2009 at 4:33 pm

I say make the plunge! It seems that the shuffles have the shortest life span, so I’d say it’d be cheaper to get a real “iPizzle.” And hey it creates less waste too!

I have done the same thing to myself with Mary’s sticks and twigs.

  10. Diana on October 27, 2009 at 4:40 pm

So sorry to hear about the ipod! That sucks. I love listening to music ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m glad to hear Bella is alright now!

    That omelet looks yummy. ๐Ÿ™‚

After badddd experiences with all of my ipod minis–I now have a big 120 gig ipod and a shuffle. my shuffle doesnt give me any problemos–but i barely use it. i only got bc i thought i wouldnt like working out with the bigger one–but it’s all i use.. and i love it! plus it holds like EVERYTHING

  12. Mellissa on October 27, 2009 at 4:51 pm

I have an ipod touch that I love! I even have a workout app that lets me load in my program and weights.

Question on yoga- Do you find a big different between doing it at home and going to a studio? I am new to yoga and am trying to find a balance between the two.

    • Fitnessista on October 27, 2009 at 5:34 pm

      hey melissa,
if i could go to a studio, i would be all over that. at home it’s easy for me to get distracted (even in the guest room) and at a studio, i feel like i work harder because someone else is actually watching me. we don’t have ANY yoga studios here, so i do podcasts unless i’m out of town and can attend classes

  13. Leah @ Simply fabulous on October 27, 2009 at 4:57 pm

What’s the difference between goats gouda and goats cheese? Or is there a difference?

    • Fitnessista on October 27, 2009 at 5:32 pm

      hey leah,
usually goat cheese is soft and creamy- the goat gouda is firm, like gouda cheese, just made out of goat’s milk

  14. Erica on October 27, 2009 at 5:20 pm

Hi, new reader. Sort of creepy because I felt like I was in my house…I have the same exact countertop and the same tile!

  15. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on October 27, 2009 at 5:28 pm

I’d totally go nano… I have a touch, and it really IS hard to maneuver when walking or whatever. Not a fan!

  16. Michelle on October 27, 2009 at 5:49 pm

Thanks for including links to pictures/descriptions of the circuit you described! That was super useful! I love your suggestions for workouts, but sometimes need a little help in doing the moves correctly. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Gabriela on October 27, 2009 at 5:50 pm

I have a classic, and I LOVE it…I know a lot of people are telling you to go with the Nano, but the classic is a tad bigger, so its easier to use while working out, AND you can put TV shows/movies/photos onto it. I never thought I’d watch TV off of that little screen, but it’s the perfect way to watch Gossip Girl every Tuesday at the gym!

  18. Kris on October 27, 2009 at 5:56 pm

Time to get yourself an Itouch ๐Ÿ™‚ They are so wonderful, easy to use and a longer life span. RIP little shuffle.

  19. Shelby on October 27, 2009 at 6:19 pm

I have a nano (the older version with the video screen) and I love it. Had it for about 2 years and it works perfectly! It’s small enough to take to the gym and the screen is a decent size to watch shows on when traveling. I highly recommend it!

  20. Spotty Prep on October 27, 2009 at 6:19 pm

That cheese does look really good-a. (You crack me up!)So glad Bella is doing better! ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Island Girl Eats on October 27, 2009 at 6:42 pm

I am glad to hear that Bella is feeling better. So sad when our pets don’t feel well.

I have been through a few ipods as well. When my nano dies, I plan on just getting a shuffle. I don’t want to spend much as I know that they are not made to last forever – so why spend a fortune?!!!

    Your omelette looked fab!

  22. Autumn Tao on October 27, 2009 at 6:45 pm

FYI- The new shuffles have the controls on the headphone cord and they cost $60 (in Jersey). My ingenious husband found me a pink older version (like the one you have) for $30 on Ebay. It’s much nicer to have that comfort when running, I know exactly where to press. Check it out!!

    • Fitnessista on October 27, 2009 at 7:18 pm

excellent idea.. i’ll totally hit up ebay!

  23. ari on October 27, 2009 at 6:56 pm

what kind of heart rate monitor did you have?

    • Fitnessista on October 27, 2009 at 7:17 pm

polar f6- i still use the watch part but the chest strap no workie

  24. Chrissy on October 27, 2009 at 6:56 pm

Sorry to hear about the death of your iPod shuffle! I don’t usually post, but I’ve got to give you the Apple girlfriend inside tip- bring Mr. Shuffle back to the store if you go to get a new one. They’ll give you at least 10% off of any iPod.

Another tip – if you get something more than a Shuffle, get the AppleCare! It gives the Geniuses room to play with the replacement/repair rules (or at least it does at DBF’s store).

    • Fitnessista on October 27, 2009 at 7:18 pm

WHOA good to know! thanks for the tip ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. Mama Pea on October 27, 2009 at 7:25 pm

You scared the bejeezus out of me with the RIP stuff! I’m so glad it was the iPod and not Bella! Hope you have a fab training session. What’s your favorite kind of Mary’s crack? I like caraway and onion!!!

    • Fitnessista on October 27, 2009 at 7:57 pm

ahhh i’m sorry! i was hoping by putting “ipizzle” in the title it would keep people from thinking that.
if anything ever happened to bella, i probably wouldn’t be able to post for a while.
i love the herb crack and the black pepper.. i haven’t even seen the caraway and onion!! i’ll be on the lookout

  26. Caitlin on October 27, 2009 at 7:31 pm

If you have an Apple store nearby, you can take the Shuffles in and they will try to fix them. If they can’t fix it, they will replace them for free. The same thing happened with two of my Shuffles because the computer fried them and I took them in and got them replaced!

  27. Roselyn on October 27, 2009 at 7:37 pm

I have a shuffle and a nano and like my shuffle better for working out/running because it feels like I’m not wearing anything. My nano is a little too bulky…

  28. kristi (sweet cheeks) on October 27, 2009 at 7:43 pm

I am totally going to get the new ipod shuffle once mine bites the dust. looks really neat!!

    Have a great time tonight!

  29. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on October 27, 2009 at 8:03 pm

I am impressed with you omelet– mine don’t look nearly that neat!

  30. Lauren on October 27, 2009 at 8:14 pm

    Glad Bella is feeling better!

Oh that stinks about the Shuffle! Sorry about your luck with technology but I often have the same issues. If one things goes, they all seem to go. (I notice this pattern with light bulbs too! Weird! ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Frannie on October 27, 2009 at 8:20 pm

I killed 3 shuffles in a row before caving in and buying a nano. Now the nano has lasted longer than 2 shuffle-lifetimes….fingers crossed for a third.

  32. Whitney @ Lettuce Love on October 27, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Bummer about the ipod — it is sad when they die.

  33. Jeannie on October 27, 2009 at 9:14 pm

I bought the new shuffle with the controls on the ear phones. It worked fine outside but every time I went to the gym, the controls would stop working and the volume would get stuck. I googled and found it’s a common problem and was probably caused by the humidity in the gym. Took it back to the Apple Store. I’m using my old classic now. It’s old but just won’t die despite dropping it off of the treadmill twice and bouncing it down the stair mill. But, it’s really too big when I need to attach it to me. I’m going to look into a used Nano (Craigslist) or a refurbished old model shuffle (Apple Store online.)

No yoga studio in your town? Do I sense a new side business for you?

    • Fitnessista on October 27, 2009 at 9:39 pm

      good to know!
no because we’re moving next year. otherwise i would definitely get certified and open a studio. i do have another side business in the works though ๐Ÿ˜‰

  34. Melissa (Melissa Likes To Eat) on October 27, 2009 at 9:17 pm

My Polar died too and I mailed it to Polar and they replaced the battery in the chest strap and the watch part and now it works beautifully again. It’s a pain to mail it and wait for it but they fixed it pretty fast and kept me updated by emails as the process went along.

  35. fittingbackin on October 27, 2009 at 9:23 pm

  39. Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) on October 27, 2009 at 11:56 pm

Sorry to hear you had to put yet another iPod shuffle to rest. I do not like being shuffleless during my workouts. I’d much rather listen to my music any day over Mr. Farmar. ๐Ÿ™‚

Your omelet looks so good. Bought some raw goat cheese on your recommendation. I’m thinking pizza!

Have a good Wednesday Gina. Love, Heabie

      hey shelley,
thank you so much! i look forward to checking out your blog!

  42. Justine on October 28, 2009 at 12:55 am

I have 3 ipods.. nano, classic, itouch (that I got for free). I use my nano (read: 4 years old, and somehow still kickin’) for my workouts, but I like the idea of a shuffle more since they clip on and you don’t need an armband. Apple has refurbished ipods online for cheap, though I’m not sure if the lifespan is the same as the new ones. It depends if you’re just buying the ipod to use for everything or not.. if so, then I’d go for the itouch, but if just exercise, then I’d go for the shuffle.

  43. GirlonRaw on October 28, 2009 at 3:16 am

Check your email! I can possibly resurrect your nano! Same thing happened to me ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. Jodi on October 28, 2009 at 5:56 am

Just de-lurking myself ๐Ÿ˜‰ and wanted to let you know how much I love your blog.

I’ve had my little shuffle for over 2years and it still works great. (Keeping fingers crossed). Did you know the applestore online sells refurbished ipods? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2009 at 10:23 am

      hey jodi,
thank you for stepping out of lurkdom and saying hello!! ๐Ÿ˜€
no i didn’t– i’ll totally have to check into that!

  45. Jordan @ Salt Sweat Sugar on October 28, 2009 at 8:29 am

I have an iPhone and a Nano and I definitely like my Nano better for working out. Just like everyone else has already said, it’s a pain to worry about looking at the screen to change the songs. The shuffles are good, but if you make a playlist for workouts on your Nano, you can just listen to that instead of worrying about changing songs.

  46. Emily Eats and Exercises on October 28, 2009 at 9:11 am

Your omelet looks so professional! I think I always add too many veggies to mine – tastes good, but looks messy.

  47. maria on October 28, 2009 at 9:18 am

Too bad about the ‘ole Shuffle. Maybe you do require a more substantial iPod, though!?! And thank you for the idea of the at-home workout. I’m marking this entry and trying it later!

  48. Tina on October 28, 2009 at 9:25 am

I’ve always wanted to try those Mary crackers.
I would say get a real iPod. They last for a looong time and are great and totally worth it.

  49. K on October 28, 2009 at 10:06 am

My iPod is slowly circling the drain – I’ve had it since summer of 2005!! Crazy! That omelette looks perfect! I always end up with scrambled eggies.

LOVE the at home workout – thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

this happened to me earlier this summer. my video ipod died and left with by myself. i have a shuffle, but its not as great. if i were to get a new one get the new shuffle that plays the radio. I think its awesome to have the option to listen to your music and or the radio whenever you please
