The Calm and the Storm

Hi friends <3 Hope youโ€™re having a relaxing Saturday.

vies

I started my morning off with some tasty brown rice cakes:

cakes

They were topped with a spread made of heated Sun Warrior with a little almond milk to thin it out, a tablespoon-ish of cashew butter, cinnamon and a chunk of chocolate, topped with cacao nibs

cakes (2)

After b-fast, I took the puppers for a walk and then went to a beautiful yoga class.

As we were backbending and going through a beautiful series, tragedy was occurring down the street. Iโ€™m sure many of you have heard about the devastating event in Tucson– my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were affected. Itโ€™s a very sad day today <3

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Some eats:

New Blueberry Muffin Larabar (from my friends at Larabar- itโ€™s my new favorite flavor)

larabar2

Lunch today was haphazard- I forgot to pack it, so I munched a little sumthinโ€™ when I got home.

tortilla

(Brown rice tortilla with organic deli chicken, mustard, goat cream cheese, Garlic Gold and artichoke hearts)

+ carrots

carrots

Tonight Iโ€™ll probably go to a friendโ€™s birthday dinner and then lay low with the fam <3

Have a lovely night and Iโ€™ll see ya in the morning.

xoxo

Agreed, what an awful, awful day. My heart also goes out to the victims.

And on a lighter note, that artichoke wrap looks awesome.

Its been a rough week for Arizona. We had the shooting in chandler (luckily no one was hurt) that my husband was on call at and now this. What a devestating day and I have been praying for the families who were affected by all of this all day ๐Ÿ™

You always make the best food btw. My daily routine seems pretty dull compared to what you make!

my goodness, what a tragic event……glad you and your loved ones are safe!!

This larabar is something handsome in that pic ๐Ÿ˜‰ I better be seeing one up here in Vancouver, BC very shortly I am taking my butt down south to get one!

    xxoo

  13. Katie on January 8, 2011 at 8:33 pm

I had the blueberry muffin larabar in my purse, and the next day it was total mush! It was still good, but doesn’t hold together as well as the others. Coconut Cream Pie still reigns supreme!

  14. Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty on January 8, 2011 at 8:36 pm

Glad you are safe and sound. I was thinking about you today.

  15. Sally on January 8, 2011 at 8:36 pm

  16. Ilana on January 8, 2011 at 8:37 pm

I caught those blueberry laras at my fave health food store this summer…sooo delish. I topped one with tofutti and microwaved it….omg.

We’ve been watching the news all afternoon. Your city is in our prayers. It’s a tragic day for all Americans!

And on another note, I wasn’t aware of the new blueberry flavor. I can’t wait to try one!

  18. hippierunner on January 8, 2011 at 8:55 pm

Those brown rice cakes look good. Terrible about today’s events. Glad you are well!

  19. mattie on January 8, 2011 at 8:57 pm

Sad day, indeed. Wishing you and your community peace.

And totally OFF topic, I though Vies was moving homes? She is so adorable…if I lived in Tucson and you still needed to part ways with her, I would adopt her in a second! (And of course I would let you visit whenever you wanted!).I am poochless , but watch the dogs of my friends/neighbors/friends of friends a lot, and I totally get the whole aggressive/dominant/need to be the only pupper thing. I hope that either way — whether you get to keep that sweet face or whether she finds another home that all turns out well.

Also, how was that deli chicken?!?

  20. Meghan@travelwinedine on January 8, 2011 at 9:02 pm

Glad you are okay and sending love and hope to Tucson.

Thoughts and prayers with the families of those killed and injured. Still remember reading about Gabby’s wedding to her pilot at an organic farm in AZ and thinking about how down to earth she seemed.

definitely thinking of you and the storm; sorry to hear about it

  44. Kate@andwhenshesays on January 9, 2011 at 8:54 am

My heart just breaks for Tucson and the families of the victims. It’s crazy to think that this sort of thing can happen anywhere – my parents live just a couple miles away.

On a much different, brighter note, very excited to see a blueberry Larabar! What are the ingredients? More importantly, are there walnuts? Fingers crossed for a no – I’m allergic, le sigh.

  45. ashley nicole on January 9, 2011 at 9:36 am

Do you know what the other new flavas of Larabars are going to be? i’m so excitedddddd!

Maybe I should give larabars a second chance. Hmmm..

  48. Gill (snaxandthecity) on January 9, 2011 at 10:22 am

Loved the artichoke hearts idea! They’re also excellent on pizza. I have a tin in the cupboard and need to use them up….a wrap sounds great!
Do you ever make your own brown rice tortillas? We can’t buy them here and I want one :-S

PS Woke up here in the UK to the tragic news from Tucson….so sad.

    • Fitnessista on January 9, 2011 at 10:27 am

i’ve never made them, but that would be a fun project!
