Turn Around

Hey guys 😀 Happy Indian Food Wednesday! How are you celebrating?? I’ll be hitting up the Indian buffet with some friends on a break from work- I can taste the roti already 🙂

roti

Today’s post title was inspired by this epic video:

(Source– sorry for the blurry quality, it was the best version on YouTube)

My heart is an empty void where Glee once was. Season 3, I’m counting the days 😉

Random: Jesse is pretty hawt- he’s got that bad boy thing going on, haha 😉

So does this guy, though:

 pilot

Yesterday was an odd day.

Our AC decided to randomly call it quitsies in the middle of the sweltering heat. As I type this, it’s a blistering 85 degrees in my house, with every fan we own on. Bonus: I could probably get in a sweet Bikram practice in the comfort of my own home 😉

torturechamber

The air peeps will be here later today to fix it and I. CAN’T. FREAKING. WAIT.

Snafu #2: I accidentally faxed a bunch of super personal information for a contract to the wrong fax number. Apparently when I have no AC, I turn into a space cadet. So some of my evening was spent calling a bajillion people and putting a flag on our accounts to make sure that nothing shady happens.

The night turned around when I met some friends at Charlie Tripper’s for drinks and appetizers 🙂

I chose a vodka with club soda and a splash of cranberry:

The ahi tuna:

and a side of grilled vegetables 😀

‘Twas lovely.

This morning, I’m off to teach an early bootcamp class before pumping some iron and training a client 🙂

See ya after our Indian feast.

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: What is your all-time favorite strength training move?? I’m working on my boot camp ideas for next week and would love to hear your faves, even if it’s in a love-hate way 😉 My favorite has to be the lunge and lift– it definitely gives ya a killer booty and leg workout.

PS- To those of you who wanted to know where I bought the clothes yesterday– sorry, I should have posted that info!- TJ Maxx! For real. It’s one of the best stores in Valdizzy- our TJ Maxx is pretty legit, you just have to be in the mood to treasure hunt 😉

BURPEES!!! Look them up on you tube if you are not sure what they are. Once you get them down, they are KILLER.

    • brittany on June 23, 2010 at 10:12 am

burpees are so so tough!! I do them as my cardio workout when I’m working out from home

  2. Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on June 23, 2010 at 7:55 am

TJ Maxx is no joke! We have a pretty decent one here too, but I usually have a little better luck at Marshalls.

  3. Kathryn on June 23, 2010 at 8:00 am

walking pushups (I think thats what they are called, do a pushups, walk hands to one side, do another one, move hands back etc)! killer for chest/arms and abs!

  4. carolinebee on June 23, 2010 at 8:05 am

Giiinaaa!! OMG I’m so pumped to catch up on the haps in your life 😀 I mean, I’ve been reading your blog since 08, I take a lil’ break, yet come back to you reminding me of Indian Food Wednesday..standard. HAHA i loveeee it!!
I just did a bootcamp the other day- and we did a “Kettlebell” move with a dumbbell…I did it with 12, where we squatted down, holding the weight by the top, down in between our legs…and then as you straighten your legs, bring the weight straight up in front of you to about chest level…it was crazy hard, especially at the end after everything!
    Good luck today xo

  5. Katie on June 23, 2010 at 8:06 am

Plank holds! I did a bootcamp class and this was a nice “break” to slow down our heartrate a bit. 🙂

  6. Stacey on June 23, 2010 at 8:15 am

    Those frilled veggies looked yummilicious!
(he he, I said frilled, I meant grilled, but it cracked me up so I’m leaving it)

  7. Marissa on June 23, 2010 at 8:21 am

My favorite probably has to be the simple chest fly. It feels so cool! And, yeah, 85 is a little warm… I like my house to be around 82. :] What can I say; I love the HOT!

  8. Laura J. on June 23, 2010 at 8:36 am

Woah 85?! Hope it gets fixed quick! The heat is sweltering in VA, so I can’t imagine how it is in GA! Gaaa

I don’t know what the *technical* term is but I call it the lunge of death. We do them in Body Pump. Basically you do a lunge, then go down for your second lunge but only come up halfway, pulse and go up. We do like 20 on each side. It kiiiiills. I hate them, but love what they’ve done to my legs, ha. 🙂

I can’t wait for GLEE to start either! I’ve got the hotts for Quinn tho 😉

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:10 am

those lunges sound AWESOME, in a terrible way 🙂
quinn is so beautiful, it’s kind of ridiculous 😀

      • Laura J. on June 23, 2010 at 11:31 pm

I just thought you should know that “Total Eclipse of the Heart” has been stuck in my head all.day.long!! Thanks a lot! 😉

  9. A Teenage Gourmet on June 23, 2010 at 8:50 am

I’m truly a swimming fan, but I do like BUDOKON by Cameron Shayne for at-home strengthening. 🙂

    • A Teenage Gourmet on June 23, 2010 at 8:53 am

Oops, I read that too fast and I thought that it said “movie” . . . My favorite move is lunges – painful but effective.

  10. ashley on June 23, 2010 at 8:55 am

my most favourite strength training move is a chest fly with a leg lift – you feel the burn all over 🙂
i lie on the ground with my legs extended, and as i bring up my arms for the fly i lift up my legs.
    sooooo gooood.

  11. allison @ livingoneday on June 23, 2010 at 8:59 am

i love the maxx! i ALWAYS go there first, and i’ve gotten some of my favorite clothes there. such a bargain! i don’t even have ac in my room, so my hair in the summer is always a hot mess 😉

  12. Nicole on June 23, 2010 at 9:06 am

I’m longing for Glee too. Luckily I have all the soundtracks and can relive the music, however it’s not the same as watching the show!!

  13. Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) on June 23, 2010 at 9:18 am

You just MADE my morning with Glee… I’m new to the show, but from what I’ve seen, I love. Where can I apply? Oh, if I could only sing 😉

    Favorite strength move? Side planks!

  14. Jessica @ How Sweet on June 23, 2010 at 9:19 am

My favorite are lean lunges! Also, I love rows. I just love working back. The plan with a single arm row always works, too!

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:09 am

i love working back, too- you see results SO quickly when you work back

  15. Lindsey @ Foodie on the Rocks on June 23, 2010 at 9:21 am

I am missing Glee like a blogger who’s run out a nut butter!! I’m going to be back to watch that video at least twenty times today. And on topic – they’re super simple but I love deadlifts. Love ’em.

  16. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on June 23, 2010 at 9:28 am

i’m definitely feeling lost these days without Glee! my tuesday nights just aren’t the same any more. i did however, keep it going by incorporating 2 of the finale songs in my spin class this morning!

my favourite strength training moves are kettlebell swings and windmills… i ALWAYS feel my obliques after the windmills, no matter how much i feel like i’m getting used to them!

  17. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on June 23, 2010 at 9:31 am

Duuuuuuude what a day! Hope today is better for ya.

My favorite strength move is anything that leaves me super sore. 🙂

  18. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on June 23, 2010 at 9:40 am

I love it that Lea Michelle and the guy who plays Jesse are BFFs in real life. I wish I could have seen them in Spring Awakening together!!

  19. Barbara(Blood,Sweat and Heels) on June 23, 2010 at 9:44 am

Dang…Hope you get A/C back asap! It’s already in the 100’s here in Tejas:(

Fav strength move of the moment? Deadhang Pull ups…
I SO thrilled to be able to punmp those out now and look like a Billy Bad Ass:) hehe

You poor thing – it’s hovering near 90 here and very sticky. I have to put the air on for the pupper, poor little guy! I love TJMaxx – except people like to rummage thru things and it gets to be quite a mess – so yes, you have to dig sometimes to find things. I put in the order for my new car last week and thought of you – how are you enjoying your new wheels?

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:08 am

yes, it’s miserable in here right now! :/
LOVE the new wheels, though. i debated sleeping in the car last night, haha

  21. Shoezq on June 23, 2010 at 9:52 am

I heart Glee as well and completely agree about the void. Although I’m pretty sure next season will be season 2 and not season 3.

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:07 am

      yeah, i forgot they’re doing 1/2 season-type things

  22. Emma on June 23, 2010 at 9:55 am

Glee season 3? It’s going to be a lot shorter wait for Glee season 2. 😉 I know what you mean, though, even though I have such a love/hate relationship with Glee. They seem to be completely against character development and plot continuity. But I can’t bring myself to care when I can look at Jonathan Groff’s hair for 42 minutes!

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:07 am

yeah, you’re right- it’s technically season 2, not season 3.
      and his hair is AMAZING

  23. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on June 23, 2010 at 10:03 am

I love random finds at TJ Maxx. The thing I hate about that store is that it’s always a mess of disorganization. I just wish someone would put stuff away where it goes. It’d make shopping there so much easier. But I LOVE your new stuff!

  24. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on June 23, 2010 at 10:04 am

I’m a biiig fan of jump squats, because I feel like they are a lovely mix of heart-pumping cardio and crazy-toning strength training for the legs and booty! I mean, I HATE doing them, but they are good for the bod so I love them… If that makes sense.

  25. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on June 23, 2010 at 10:05 am

I LOVE lunge and lifts. But pushups are pretty hardcore, too 😀

    xo
    Kris

  26. Liz on June 23, 2010 at 10:07 am

TJ Maxx is an awesome store! I have definitely gotten some good outfits there. And I have to agree- Jesse is pretty hot. Although I hate what they did to his character at the end. Why would he egg Rachel?? That makes no sense! haha

oh- my friend and I just started the Summer Shape-Up yesterday! We’re a teensy bit late but I definitely feel it!! Excited for day two now 😀

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:06 am

yes, the egg thing made me want to cry
      enjoy the SSU!! 🙂

  27. Michelle on June 23, 2010 at 10:13 am

I LOVE stability ball hamstring curls! I always feel them the next day, so I know they really work 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:05 am

      those are my favorite, too

  28. maxinthegym on June 23, 2010 at 10:16 am

I’m feelin’ a few Glee withdrawal symptoms as well 🙁

I have a love/hate relationship with lunges. Hate ’em but they’re so good for me! Big fan of jump squats, planks, and push ups as well 😀

  29. Heather (Heather's Dish) on June 23, 2010 at 10:28 am

oh glee, i love it 🙂 i’m a huge fan of plank and squats personally! they make me feel incredibly strong!

  30. Elise on June 23, 2010 at 10:30 am

My all time favorite is walking lunges =)

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

HAHAH! it does look like boobs!
my blog has gotten a little risque lately, haha

  31. Carrie on June 23, 2010 at 10:34 am

I forget what’s it called, but you introduced the move to me. It’s a squat with weights on your toes. Love it to the max!

  32. Kelly @ Healthy Living With Kelly on June 23, 2010 at 10:34 am

My favorite is speed skaters…those work the butt so good!!

  33. Megan @ The Daily Sweat on June 23, 2010 at 10:39 am

My favorite stregth training moves are any ones that work my back, upper and lower. I feel so strong when I do them and who doesn’t like a strong back?!

I’m FINALLY going to join you for indian food Wednesday – hitting up a local place for lunch…drooling already. 🙂

  34. Mellissa on June 23, 2010 at 10:44 am

Squats all the way, they work so much!

  35. hannah on June 23, 2010 at 10:54 am

I love 21s (which I learned from your shape-up) and deadlifts. Will you pleeeease post your boot camp workouts?!

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 10:59 am

      sure, i’ll post today’s 🙂

  36. Heather @ get healthy with Heather on June 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

My favorite strength move is push ups… There are so many wicked variations. You should try out the spider man push ups. As you go down bring your right knee to your tricep then the next time you go down bring your left arm to your tricep. You work your upper body and obliques at the same time.

  37. Jenny on June 23, 2010 at 11:03 am

As soon as I saw the post title, I knew that epic video was coming! Not gonna lie, it made me cry the first time around!

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:11 am

ME TOO! why was it so good???!! i can’t stand it, haha

  38. Heather @ get healthy with Heather on June 23, 2010 at 11:03 am

Oops typo I meant bring your left knee (not arm) to your tricep.

I’ve grown up with no AC in my house, and I live in PA- I can only imagine how brutal Georgia would be! Hope the AC man can fix it asap 🙂 TJ Maxx definitely has great stuff, but it’s hit or miss…I either spend like 200 bucks in there or absolutely nothing. Loved yesterday’s purchases, especially the little black dress!

  40. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on June 23, 2010 at 11:09 am

I love vodka and soda drinks. My favorite is vodka, soda, with a splash of pineapple. It’s so summer-y and refreshing!! 🙂

  41. Ecjoyful on June 23, 2010 at 11:13 am

My favorite strength move is combining a shoulder press with single leg front kicks. I love movements that work upper and lower body at the same time!

  42. Megan on June 23, 2010 at 11:18 am

I hope your A/C gets fixed soon! GA is way too hot and humid to be without it!!

I used to go to bootcamp where we would play “fitness games.” Our instructor broke us up into two teams, and we had to do sprints across the room to collect a certain colored ball out of a paper bag– each team had a different color they needed to collect. It turned into a sort of shuttle-race, and I was drenched in sweat by the end! As far as strength moves go, burpees are torture (in a good way), too!! 😀

  43. Katie on June 23, 2010 at 11:33 am

can anyone suggest something for an indian food virgin?? yup, that’s right never tried it in my life!! but all this talk about how amazing it is, makes me want to try it…immediately! =)

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 11:55 am

channa masala – chickpeas, tomatoes and light spices 🙂

my dinner is chinese themed this evening! I FAIL! xx

  45. denise on June 23, 2010 at 12:03 pm

I just watched your lunge and lift video – you have beautiful skin! This morning in my class we did one leg dead lifts bringing the other leg up behind and holding weight in our hand. Great for balance training!

I keep meaning to post videos on my blog…

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2010 at 1:31 pm

      thank you!

  46. caroline on June 23, 2010 at 12:07 pm

Fave strength move: Renegade Row 🙂 LOVE IT!

Soda water, vodka, splash of cran is my go-to drink when out with friends for a fun evening. Perfectly crisp refreshing and not too potent 😉 Hope you had a great time and are keeping cool over there!

  47. Keri on June 23, 2010 at 12:19 pm

Okay I don’t know if this move has a name but we do them in a class I take called “The Mixx” You basically roll like a ball, kind of like in Pilates but you do it quickly and use the momentum to get up to your feet then you do a jump and reach for the sky and roll back down again…They are awesome and I am always so sore the next day!

  48. Amelia on June 23, 2010 at 12:20 pm

My fav strength move is anything with triceps. I can really feel those moves working and can tell the difference the more I do them.

  49. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on June 23, 2010 at 12:33 pm

I just started watching Glee and I’m hooked! 😀

  50. Deah on June 23, 2010 at 12:43 pm

Have you seen the literal music videos? They take the music videos and do a voice-over song with lyrics singing about what is “really” happening in the video. The one for Turn Around is hilarious, I swear to you you will laugh until you pee your pants. I’m not sure the exact thing but if you google “literal music videos” and “turn around” you might find it. So funny!!
