Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. It’s always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so I’ll probably do similar lists for each month 😀
Bella’s August in a snapshot:
Here’s what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me 😉
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didn’t happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I can’t rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didn’t practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, it’s such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, that’s all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but I’m superstitious and won’t post about it until all is bueno 😉
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been “warmed” and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. I’m so excited 😀
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones you’d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didn’t happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. I’m a floater, not a swimmer 😉
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didn’t get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I can’t wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I haven’t done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didn’t since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so I’ll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the “ex boyfriend” – it’s funny how you miss things when you can’t do them 😉 I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything 🙂
9. Go out for a girls night 😀 I’m lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out- we did quite a few dinners and movie nights 🙂
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didn’t happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didn’t go. I did have fondue this month, though 😉
So was your August Awesome?
Here’s one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didn’t have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I don’t think I need 3 lbs 😉
So I’d love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

I love your fashion and home makeover ideas and pics. Keep them coming!!
Would LOVE some custom Fitnessista roons!!!!
i would live to try some macaroons! and i’m loving reading your family page. 🙂
Yay, what fun! My August was awesome, got a ton accomplished, started a home preschool (with one student–my girl!), and it totally went by too fast. I love your list!
Love the recipes and love seeing home improvement/party stuff!
I am dying to get my hands on some of your macaroons! August has been a great month for me. I’m 2 weeks ahead of you pregnant (23 weeks), and this seems to be the best time yet- major bumpage but not huge, smiles from strangers, excitement, shower registries, and a huge bag of hand-me-downs to sort through! We’ll just overlook the inability to get comfortable for sleeping and countless trips to the bathroom…
I haven’t been practicing as much yoga since I moved either. Everywhere is too expensive and I just don’t like taking yoga classes at the gym. I don’t have all that much room for yoga at home and am never self-motivated. Today, though, I went to a yoga class in the AM and was reminded of how much I need it between all the cardio and strength training! Felt sooo good!
Fashion post???? *does happy dance* I looooooooove fashion posts! Oh: and I’m drooling over your bag collection. I’m a total purse lover : D
I loved reading about your housewarming prep… perhaps a future “Entertainment” section on the blog with recipes, good food combos for dinner parties, etc?
It was so awesome to read about how you met/did not meet your August goals. It is always interesting to look back at what you did accomplish over a period of time.
My August has been pretty awesome. I just finished my second triathlon! Now it is time to enjoy the fall and do more yoga :-).
My August seemed to fly by! I’m getting married this October and this month had to deal with a lot of those plans and work. I did manage to get more running in, but not as much as I liked. Love your August list!
How awesome are you, pregnant and cooking for your readers??! You amaze me!!
No pizookie date? You need to work on that one for Sept 🙂
Your blog is amazing and so are you. Your family section has been an unexpected and awesome section!
and all your meals and recipes are always so do-able and real-life do-able for those of us who don’t keep exotic ingredients on hand or want a recipe with 19 ingredients in it!
I am studying for the LSAT and would LOVEEEEEEE some chocolate almond butter or maple macaroons!! I just recently have found your blog and went all the way back to the beginning. You have motivated me to start running again!
Keep up the workouts and the recipes!! Summer Shape-Up helped me start a regular work out routine because I could do it all from home which I love! The recipes are always delicious and your enthusiasm always encourages me on days I don’t feel like cooking/exercise. Glad to see you posted your Awesome August list… I’ve still got a few to finish up on mine as well!
Looks like you have some duplicates in your cook book collection? My August was one of a little more fun for me. Even though I’m short handed at work, I vowed to try to offset the hard work/stress with more outtings. So, we went to some baseball games, outdoor festivals and a few fun birthday parties. I also booked a flight for me and my brother to visit family in Colorado the last weekend of September. We haven’t been there in over 20 years. I can’t wait!
You being you is what I adore about your blog 🙂 Your positiveness, great workout encouragement and silly sense of humor are something I look forward to reading everyday! <3
Yay for macaroons 😉
August didn’t go exactly as planned but turned out pretty good for the most part! Glad to see yours was fun! Though I definitely would go get the pizookie….theres nothing better!
I’d love to be invited to a Fitnessista dinner party! Your party recaps always make me want to join in on the fun. 🙂 Too bad you live on the other side of the country… otherwise I’d say let’s go out for some organic shiraz after the little girl arrives!
I’m really loving the family posts. Your blog lately just seems to reflect how truly happy and surrounded by love you are! <3
A pizookie date sounds like a great idea right about now. 😉
I love your blog from the recipes, work outs and fashion posts to the cute Bella pics! I think I need to start a monthly goal list for motivation too. Especially in this Arizona heat, it’s so easy to get tired and lazy and just not get anything accomplished. Mmmmmm super roons……
I would love to say I completed all these goals, but I DID do a few! One that I still need to check off the list is getting rid of old clothes… I picked from my summer clothes suitcase all summer long. Terrible, I know! :/
I love macaroons & would love to try yours!! I love your blog the way it is, so just keep it up!
Oooh! Can’t wait for the September list! I am starting a new job on 9/6 that will hopefully mean less stress! Woot!! I think I’ll challenge myself to come up with 5 new things to do this month and see what happens.
i spent all of august planning my little guy’s first b*day. the party is saturday and now i don’t know where the month went. or the last year come to think of it 😉
Hi! I’m a relatively new reader and I’ve never commented before so I thought this would be a good opportunity to say hello 🙂 And that you inspired me to make my own pizookie earlier this month, it was delish!
I love your blog, I read it daily 🙂
August was awesome! I got married and went on my honeymoon, I didn’t want it to end!
Thanks for your food and fitness insight and although I’m still a year or two from wanting a bun in the oven, I appreciate learning about other people’s experiences with pregnancy especially from a health and fitness standpoint. Thanks!
I would love to see some more healthy snack ideas/recipes. Snacks are the hardest part of trying to be healthy, for me.
I think some macaroons would really help me out with that. 😉
I would love to see more fast workout ideas. I’m in my first year of law school so I have very little for hour plus workouts that I’m used to, so any 30 min. power workouts would be amazing!
You did have an awesome August!! I was looking forward to moving into our freshly built house in August, but we still have a few more weeks of work to complete before it is move in ready (I never want to paint white trim again!!!).
I love your family posts! I am about a week behind you in due dates and also having a little girl and it is nice to be able to read about someone going through similar things at the same time as I am 🙂
I think you did pretty dang good, accomplished some August goals 🙂 I think I should make some for September!
Such a cute post! I have never had a macaroon.
I’ve been dying to have some of your macaroons!
I love you family posts- keep them coming!
mmmm macaroons!!! I would love to see more recipes that are quick and healthy and fast! I also love your routines that can be done at home. I ended by gym membership and am planning to incorporate a home training program. I would also love a little words of wisdom on winter weight loss tips!
I LOVE the blog and can’t get enough of your recipes!!! Maybe it’s time to add to the recipe page….
My August was beyond awesome because I got to see my boyfriend after being apart for 2 months. He is a Marine Officer stationed in Okinawa, Japan. His younger brother was graduating from Marine bootcamp in San Diego, so I got to spend time with both him and his family in one of the most beautiful cities in the US! I was also very lucky that he was able to extend his leave beyond just the few days of the ceremony, and so we were also able to spend time with friends in LA and then take a day and a half to have fun in Vegas 🙂 I’m banking on my August to get me through Sept-Dec, though. Probably won’t see him again until Christmas. Wah. I will say that I take comfort in knowing that I’m not the only one who has had to go through this, though. Thanks for always being real with your readers about the hardships (and the eventual bliss!) of military life!!
Love your blog.
My favorite Make August Awesome goal that I actually met was…..buy a Vitamix!!!!!!!!!!! (there are not enough exclamation points in the world to express my excitement 🙂 I love that you have so many tasty Vita recipes. I haven’t chewed my food for a couple weeks. Problem? Maybe. Haha!
Love your blog!! I learn so much! My August was amazing because I found out I’m pregnant <3ti
I looked forward to the end of August for my bridal shower! I had such an amazing day with family and friends from out of town! I was so overwhelmed from all the generous gifts and thoughts that went into the shower!
Also, I am loving the family posts! Can’t wait to see more!
Hi Gina! I am also currently obsessing with J. Brand Jeans. I tried on the cobalt blue skinnies and I love them!! I love your ab burner posts! Keep ’em coming.
I love reading your blog, and especially the Family Section! For a regular post, I’d love to read about how you “put together” a menu for a dinner party, from start to finish. You always seem to make everything go together so well…I could use a few pointers! 🙂
My August was a blur! Went by so quickly. But I have to admit that I’m happy, because I am so excited for summer to be over because I like everything about fall.
Hi Gina! I just want to see say hi. I love your blog and am so excited for you and the pilot. Congratulations on the little girl nugget! 😀
My august was awesome because we found out we’re expecting =) soooooooooo excited!
My august was awesome because I beat my trial on PR!!! Wooohoooo
And by “trial on PR” I mean I beat my old triathlon PR. Damn you autocorrect!
I love the way your blog continues to inspire on a daily basis – whether it is to try something new with food, a workout or a way to enrich our life somehow. It is always a pleasure to open your blog to see a new post!
I am fascinated with the Meyer Lemon Lavender flavor macaroon. Have you ever posted the recipe for your roons? Or if it is in a cookbook – please tell me where to find it.
Happy baking! Nesting is the BEST!
Thanks!!
I am LOVING your family posts…mmm… meyer lavender macaroons sound freakin amazing!
