Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. Itโs always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so Iโll probably do similar lists for each month ๐
Bellaโs August in a snapshot:
Hereโs what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me ๐
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didnโt happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I canโt rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didnโt practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, itโs such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, thatโs all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but Iโm superstitious and wonโt post about it until all is bueno ๐
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been โwarmedโ and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. Iโm so excited ๐
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones youโd like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didnโt happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. Iโm a floater, not a swimmer ๐
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didnโt get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I canโt wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I havenโt done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didnโt since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so Iโll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the โex boyfriendโ โ itโs funny how you miss things when you canโt do them ๐ I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything ๐
9. Go out for a girls night ๐ Iโm lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-ย we did quite a few dinners and movie nights ๐
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didnโt happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didnโt go. I did have fondue this month, though ๐
So was your August Awesome?
Hereโs one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didnโt have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I donโt think I need 3 lbs ๐
So Iโd love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

You’re so sweet for always thinking about us readers, Gina! My day has been exhausting haha but luckily I just finished my last class and am done for the day! 3rd day of college but so rewarding ๐
My August has been awesome– it’s been a great mix of family time, acupuncture, farmers markets, concerts, long runs, hard work, and good times. You know what would make September sensational (or special or sweet or silly or stupendous or savvy or sexy or sweaty)? It starts with an R and rhymes with goons…. ๐
Reading your blog everyday is really a highlight! Thank you for your inspiration to make healthy choices and stay fit! It really is an encouragement reading your posts!
Thanks for the great blog! I wish you well on your pregnancy and know that your incredibly fit lifestyle will be such a benefit to you after the baby arrives! Peace, Love & ZUMBA!
I love your fashion posts! I would actually like to see a little more of them. I really like to see how you interpret trends and put pieces together.
I also spent this August moving into a new place and helping my mom prep for my wedding shower next Sunday. Such exciting times!!!!
I love the fashion posts. Very fun!
I absolutely love your blog! I’m bummed that the school year started back up because I’m a teacher and some days I miss all of your posts of the day and have to read them the next day! I miss reading them when you post them! The other day I was getting my fitnessista fix and my husband called to me from the other room and asked what I was doing and I told him I had to catch up on fitnessista posts because I miss them and was going through withdrawls! HAHA! Anyway, keep up the good work and know you have a lot of fans out here!
Hello, I just started reading your blog and I love it! It gives me the inspiration to start eating healthy again.
Something interesting this month for me, was that I started school. I just moved to Florida in June and it was the first time I had to start school without knowing anyone! It’s definitely not something I want to repeat again!
Hey, I also brought a fairly giant sized bag of almonds recently too! haha
The end of August is bittersweet for me. I am beginning a new grad program tomorrow, which I’m thrilled about, but the school I’ll be attending is located in a different city than my fiancรฉ – wah! If anyone can related to my mixed emotions, it’s you! That said…I could sure use some macaroons to make the sorrow of parting a bit less sorrowful ๐
I absolutely love your family posts! Thank you so much for sharing your special times with us ๐ My niece was born in Japan, so we never got to see or hear much about the pregnancy. In a (hopefully non-creepy) way, your posts make me feel a little more fulfilled as an aunt ๐
And to make my August awesome, I signed up for my very first race- a 5k next month! I’m so excited!
Your lifestyle is soo inspiring! Glad I found your blog and look forward to your posts everyday!
Ooh you had to go away and do a ‘roon giveaway. I love it!
I didn’t set any goals for myself for this month, aside from marathon training (which has not exactly gone as planned) – but will definitely set some for September. Thanks for reminding us that goal-setting is fun!
Hiiiii!!! I would love to hear more about your pregnancy. And more about what types of food you are eating to keep your little nugget health ๐
August was great for me because my boyfriend and I went on our first ‘real’ vacation of the year that didn’t involve visiting family members – we went to Copenhagen for four days last weekend. Being out in a city surrounded by a different language and culture (though they were all so friendly and happy to speak English while we struggled with basic Danish) is so inspiring and exciting and I had been looking forward to it since we booked it! It rained for three of our four days but it only made the return to our hotel and cuddling up in bed all the better ๐
Happy almost-September!
August was great for me! My husband and I put in an offer on our first house and are now planning our move!
I concur with the readers who are loving the family posts- I can’t wait to virtually meet your new addition!
๐
Yep, looks like you had an awesome August. I’d love for you to share some of your favorite cookbooks… I love your shelf of goodies. Trying to peak at them!
I am so glad I stumbled across your blog this August! This blog is the first thing I read in the morning and it has motivated me to fit in workouts throughout my day and obsessed with goat cheese. Keep up the posts, I like them, and really appreciate the vegetarian tips =)
I love the idea of setting goals for each month, thanks for the great idea!
I love your recipes for lunch stuff and salad beast variations! Keep them coming!
YES! Love your fashion posts!
Love your blog as is! And keep it up with the cute Bella pics, reminds me of my Bella ;). No bias or anything there! ha. My August was horrible, unfortunately, so here’s hoping September kicks its bootay.
Your blog has become the first thing I look at the minute I get on the internet every day ๐ Love it and don’t know how you can improve upon something so great! You can improve my life however, by sending some roonies my way!!! I have been dying to try them forever!!!!
I’m really looking forward to September. I love the fall. The clothes, the weather, the anticipation for the holidays! The family posts are awesome btw! keep those comin’ ๐
My August was awesome for a few reasons: I started planning to do my first 5k with a couple of friends, survived yearly inventory and 9 days straight at work, got to be in my best friend’s wedding, and finally got to try Orange Leaf (love!)!!
Love reading your blog everyday! You always keep it interesting!
More recipes! I love seeing what you eat on a daily basis ๐
My August was Awesome- your post then inspired me to set some goals. I didn’t achieve all of them, but I did achieve a few. The one I’m most proud of: because I have a seriously problematic sweet tooth, I challenged myself to go without sugar for the month of august, which I termed Sugar Free August, and kept myself accountable via Facebook. Today is Day 31 and I made it! So, what better reward than some fitnessista macaroons??? LOL!
I love reading your blog and finding new recipes and ingredients to incorporate in my meals. Thanks for all the great info.
I love when you post meals you have cooked or your dinner party foods, its very inspiring to cook new recipes and make yummy dinners ๐ THanks!
I would love to win some of your macaroons ๐
August was great! I found out I am pregnant!! ๐
Our Texas August was HOT! Bring on the fall! I want mocha macaroons!!!!! ๐
I love how you made a list of goals for the month & then checked in on progress, I’m trying to do that too. The book called “The Happiness Project” inspired me to do so, it’s awesome.
More about the baby ๐
I love love your blog, especially the family posts! And I love all your “foodgasmic” recipes and pictures of your delicious food, you and your beautiful family, and Bella of course too ๐
Yummy! I like your reviews of the different exercise programs. They are very informative. I love August! It means I get to go back to school. I am a teacher and love the excitement of the start of a new year.
I had a pretty exciting August– I actually called it ‘Vegust,’ because I challenged myself to be vegan for the month! It went really well!
I love hearing about your life as a military wife! And also about great workouts and weights routines you do.
my august was pretty awesome, and the last week has been the most awesome! summer break!
Love the personal touches you put into the blog, especially about your house since I’m nosey and like to see before and afters ๐ Anyway, thank you for allowing me to read parts of your life — true inspiration<3
Your dinner party was a blast! I’m glad I could be a part of the amazingness ๐
I started reading your blog a few months back and absolute loved it! You were the first person to inspire to eat whole nutritious foods instead “diet” foods. I am soo glad I found your blog! I would love to see a post on how to get enough protein in your diet with out eating meat. ๐
Ymmm – those macaroons look delicious! Can’t say I’ve every had one with almonds before. I love your mix of food, fashion, and life on your blog!
August is awesome simply because I am finally home after bouncing around between friend’s couches while finishing up my thesis! Nothing like snuggling with my puppies to conclude August
My August was busy – the kind of busy that leaves you exhausted but was a blast so you can’t complain :). Regardless, I’ve got my fingers crossed for a relaxed September!
Ohh, I would so love to try your macaroons, they look perfect and always make my mouth water!
I really like your blog Gina!
Ana
Gina,
You are awesome! I am 20 years old and college student here in Minnesota. I came across your blog a few months ago and LOVE it! I print out a different *shweaty* workout and bust them out during the week. THANK YOU for switching it up for me….and helping me lose the 10 pounds I put on studying abroad in London this past spring! Also, I DIE everytime you make macaroons…my tum wants one ๐
You’re the best!
I adore your family posts! Everything from the sonogram photos to delivery plans to including the Pilot’s thoughts/feelings to modified workouts! My husband and I are just starting to try again after having miscarried in May and fingers crossed, I’m hoping that this month of August was the lucky month – I’ll find out in 2 or so weeks and if things didn’t happen the way I want, no worries, we are going to keep at it! ๐ Hopefully that wasn’t TMI!!!
Your macaroons make me drool.
