Was August Awesome? [giveaway]

*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!

At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. Itโ€™s always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so Iโ€™ll probably do similar lists for each month ๐Ÿ˜€

Bellaโ€™s August in a snapshot:

Hereโ€™s what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:

1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didnโ€™t happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I canโ€™t rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didnโ€™t practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, itโ€™s such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, thatโ€™s all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but Iโ€™m superstitious and wonโ€™t post about it until all is bueno ๐Ÿ˜‰

3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been โ€œwarmedโ€ and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. Iโ€™m so excited ๐Ÿ˜€

4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones youโ€™d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.

5. Go for a swim! This didnโ€™t happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. Iโ€™m a floater, not a swimmer ๐Ÿ˜‰

6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didnโ€™t get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I canโ€™t wait to bust into them!

cookbooks

[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]

7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I havenโ€™t done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didnโ€™t since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so Iโ€™ll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the โ€œex boyfriendโ€ โ€“ itโ€™s funny how you miss things when you canโ€™t do them ๐Ÿ˜‰ I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.

8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:

Love the cut, wash, length, everything ๐Ÿ™‚

9. Go out for a girls night ๐Ÿ˜€ Iโ€™m lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-ย  we did quite a few dinners and movie nights ๐Ÿ™‚

10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didnโ€™t happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didnโ€™t go. I did have fondue this month, though ๐Ÿ˜‰

So was your August Awesome?

Hereโ€™s one more way for that to happen:

You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didnโ€™t have time to make them before our trip.

roon supplies

I love almonds, but I donโ€™t think I need 3 lbs ๐Ÿ˜‰

So Iโ€™d love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

You’re so sweet for always thinking about us readers, Gina! My day has been exhausting haha but luckily I just finished my last class and am done for the day! 3rd day of college but so rewarding ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. liz on August 31, 2011 at 3:12 pm

My August has been awesome– it’s been a great mix of family time, acupuncture, farmers markets, concerts, long runs, hard work, and good times. You know what would make September sensational (or special or sweet or silly or stupendous or savvy or sexy or sweaty)? It starts with an R and rhymes with goons…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Natalie on August 31, 2011 at 3:13 pm

  6. Leighanne on August 31, 2011 at 3:17 pm

I also spent this August moving into a new place and helping my mom prep for my wedding shower next Sunday. Such exciting times!!!!

  7. Noelle on August 31, 2011 at 3:17 pm

I love the fashion posts. Very fun!

  8. Amanda M. on August 31, 2011 at 3:18 pm

I absolutely love your blog! I’m bummed that the school year started back up because I’m a teacher and some days I miss all of your posts of the day and have to read them the next day! I miss reading them when you post them! The other day I was getting my fitnessista fix and my husband called to me from the other room and asked what I was doing and I told him I had to catch up on fitnessista posts because I miss them and was going through withdrawls! HAHA! Anyway, keep up the good work and know you have a lot of fans out here!

  9. Brittany on August 31, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Hello, I just started reading your blog and I love it! It gives me the inspiration to start eating healthy again.

Something interesting this month for me, was that I started school. I just moved to Florida in June and it was the first time I had to start school without knowing anyone! It’s definitely not something I want to repeat again!

  10. Ruby on August 31, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Hey, I also brought a fairly giant sized bag of almonds recently too! haha

  11. Claire on August 31, 2011 at 3:22 pm

The end of August is bittersweet for me. I am beginning a new grad program tomorrow, which I’m thrilled about, but the school I’ll be attending is located in a different city than my fiancรฉ – wah! If anyone can related to my mixed emotions, it’s you! That said…I could sure use some macaroons to make the sorrow of parting a bit less sorrowful ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Jamie on August 31, 2011 at 3:23 pm

I absolutely love your family posts! Thank you so much for sharing your special times with us ๐Ÿ™‚ My niece was born in Japan, so we never got to see or hear much about the pregnancy. In a (hopefully non-creepy) way, your posts make me feel a little more fulfilled as an aunt ๐Ÿ™‚

And to make my August awesome, I signed up for my very first race- a 5k next month! I’m so excited!

  13. Beka on August 31, 2011 at 3:25 pm

Your lifestyle is soo inspiring! Glad I found your blog and look forward to your posts everyday!

  14. Laura @ Backstage Balance on August 31, 2011 at 3:26 pm

Ooh you had to go away and do a ‘roon giveaway. I love it!
I didn’t set any goals for myself for this month, aside from marathon training (which has not exactly gone as planned) – but will definitely set some for September. Thanks for reminding us that goal-setting is fun!

  15. Brigitte on August 31, 2011 at 3:27 pm

Hiiiii!!! I would love to hear more about your pregnancy. And more about what types of food you are eating to keep your little nugget health ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Sam @ Downward Dork to Downward Diva on August 31, 2011 at 3:27 pm

August was great for me because my boyfriend and I went on our first ‘real’ vacation of the year that didn’t involve visiting family members – we went to Copenhagen for four days last weekend. Being out in a city surrounded by a different language and culture (though they were all so friendly and happy to speak English while we struggled with basic Danish) is so inspiring and exciting and I had been looking forward to it since we booked it! It rained for three of our four days but it only made the return to our hotel and cuddling up in bed all the better ๐Ÿ™‚

    Happy almost-September!

  17. Jessica on August 31, 2011 at 3:27 pm

August was great for me! My husband and I put in an offer on our first house and are now planning our move!
I concur with the readers who are loving the family posts- I can’t wait to virtually meet your new addition!
    ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so glad I stumbled across your blog this August! This blog is the first thing I read in the morning and it has motivated me to fit in workouts throughout my day and obsessed with goat cheese. Keep up the posts, I like them, and really appreciate the vegetarian tips =)

Your blog has become the first thing I look at the minute I get on the internet every day ๐Ÿ˜€ Love it and don’t know how you can improve upon something so great! You can improve my life however, by sending some roonies my way!!! I have been dying to try them forever!!!!

  26. Amber @ Chicken and Chocolate on August 31, 2011 at 3:33 pm

My August was awesome for a few reasons: I started planning to do my first 5k with a couple of friends, survived yearly inventory and 9 days straight at work, got to be in my best friend’s wedding, and finally got to try Orange Leaf (love!)!!

  27. Audrey on August 31, 2011 at 3:35 pm

Love reading your blog everyday! You always keep it interesting!

More recipes! I love seeing what you eat on a daily basis ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. Dee on August 31, 2011 at 3:36 pm

My August was Awesome- your post then inspired me to set some goals. I didn’t achieve all of them, but I did achieve a few. The one I’m most proud of: because I have a seriously problematic sweet tooth, I challenged myself to go without sugar for the month of august, which I termed Sugar Free August, and kept myself accountable via Facebook. Today is Day 31 and I made it! So, what better reward than some fitnessista macaroons??? LOL!

  30. Angela @ Momethis on August 31, 2011 at 3:36 pm

I love reading your blog and finding new recipes and ingredients to incorporate in my meals. Thanks for all the great info.

  31. Lindsay on August 31, 2011 at 3:37 pm

Our Texas August was HOT! Bring on the fall! I want mocha macaroons!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. Rachel on August 31, 2011 at 3:41 pm

I love how you made a list of goals for the month & then checked in on progress, I’m trying to do that too. The book called “The Happiness Project” inspired me to do so, it’s awesome.

Yummy! I like your reviews of the different exercise programs. They are very informative. I love August! It means I get to go back to school. I am a teacher and love the excitement of the start of a new year.

  39. Lizzie @TheMonthOfVegust on August 31, 2011 at 3:45 pm

I had a pretty exciting August– I actually called it ‘Vegust,’ because I challenged myself to be vegan for the month! It went really well!

I love hearing about your life as a military wife! And also about great workouts and weights routines you do.

  40. cassie m on August 31, 2011 at 3:46 pm

  43. Jessica on August 31, 2011 at 3:47 pm

I started reading your blog a few months back and absolute loved it! You were the first person to inspire to eat whole nutritious foods instead “diet” foods. I am soo glad I found your blog! I would love to see a post on how to get enough protein in your diet with out eating meat. ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. Crystal on August 31, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Ymmm – those macaroons look delicious! Can’t say I’ve every had one with almonds before. I love your mix of food, fashion, and life on your blog!

  45. Patricia on August 31, 2011 at 3:49 pm

August is awesome simply because I am finally home after bouncing around between friend’s couches while finishing up my thesis! Nothing like snuggling with my puppies to conclude August

  46. Kristie on August 31, 2011 at 3:50 pm

My August was busy – the kind of busy that leaves you exhausted but was a blast so you can’t complain :). Regardless, I’ve got my fingers crossed for a relaxed September!

  48. Cait on August 31, 2011 at 3:51 pm

    Gina,
You are awesome! I am 20 years old and college student here in Minnesota. I came across your blog a few months ago and LOVE it! I print out a different *shweaty* workout and bust them out during the week. THANK YOU for switching it up for me….and helping me lose the 10 pounds I put on studying abroad in London this past spring! Also, I DIE everytime you make macaroons…my tum wants one ๐Ÿ˜€

    You’re the best!

  49. Charlene on August 31, 2011 at 3:53 pm

I adore your family posts! Everything from the sonogram photos to delivery plans to including the Pilot’s thoughts/feelings to modified workouts! My husband and I are just starting to try again after having miscarried in May and fingers crossed, I’m hoping that this month of August was the lucky month – I’ll find out in 2 or so weeks and if things didn’t happen the way I want, no worries, we are going to keep at it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hopefully that wasn’t TMI!!!

  50. Sarah on August 31, 2011 at 3:53 pm

    Your macaroons make me drool.
