Was August Awesome? [giveaway]

*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!

At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. Itโ€™s always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so Iโ€™ll probably do similar lists for each month ๐Ÿ˜€

Bellaโ€™s August in a snapshot:

bell

Hereโ€™s what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:

1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didnโ€™t happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I canโ€™t rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didnโ€™t practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, itโ€™s such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, thatโ€™s all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but Iโ€™m superstitious and wonโ€™t post about it until all is bueno ๐Ÿ˜‰

3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been โ€œwarmedโ€ and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. Iโ€™m so excited ๐Ÿ˜€

4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones youโ€™d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.

5. Go for a swim! This didnโ€™t happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. Iโ€™m a floater, not a swimmer ๐Ÿ˜‰

6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didnโ€™t get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I canโ€™t wait to bust into them!

cookbooks

[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]

7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I havenโ€™t done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didnโ€™t since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so Iโ€™ll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the โ€œex boyfriendโ€ โ€“ itโ€™s funny how you miss things when you canโ€™t do them ๐Ÿ˜‰ I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.

8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:

image J Brand

Love the cut, wash, length, everything ๐Ÿ™‚

9. Go out for a girls night ๐Ÿ˜€ Iโ€™m lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-ย  we did quite a few dinners and movie nights ๐Ÿ™‚

10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didnโ€™t happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didnโ€™t go. I did have fondue this month, though ๐Ÿ˜‰

So was your August Awesome?

Hereโ€™s one more way for that to happen:

You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didnโ€™t have time to make them before our trip.

roon supplies

I love almonds, but I donโ€™t think I need 3 lbs ๐Ÿ˜‰

So Iโ€™d love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

Gina, I just love your blog! I have been out of the running/workout routine for about 3 years now and thought I had lost my passion for fitness until I found motivation here. I have been reading for about 2 months now and have been waiting for the “right time” to comment… I guess when I felt comfy with it… Why not start with today.. I have decided to run my very first half marathon and am making it official this month! I am super excited and motivated. I have definately found my long lost love! Thanks for being so open and honest and for the awesome tips and motivation!!
    P.S. I’d absolutely love those macaroons!! (: <3

  3. Nicole on August 31, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Gina, I LOVE your blog. I wouldn’t change one thing. I love seeing pictures of Bella and the family, also pictures of your new house and love, love your dinner party spreads. You’re so talented and creative. If by chance I win your macaroons you can pick whatever kind you like. I seriously don’t think I have ever eaten a macaroon, maybe a long time ago but not sure. Is that crazy, lol..
Have a beautiful day!! ๐Ÿ™‚ P.S. I also love all of your cute plates!! They really make me smile, the different shapes and colors, luv, luv

  4. Tiffany on August 31, 2011 at 4:01 pm

I loved your August goals/motivation! I’ve always tried to make little goals for myself for a month at a time and it feels awesome to achieve them! This month I tried to get to Group Power at least twice a week (check!), go out to eat less/pack my lunch more often (check! I only went out to eat twice a week, which is a big change for me), stick to my monthly budget (half-check.. some unexpected car repairs needed to happen, so I went over-budget there, but otherwise it went well), and finish the Couch to 1 mile running program (uncheck, it was just too hot and humid here, but I made up for it by attending more spinning and step classes, as well as teaching more Zumba!) ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. laura on August 31, 2011 at 4:04 pm

i would love some of those cookies! also, bella is so cute ๐Ÿ™‚

August was great, but this fall will be better! I have 3 half marathons over the next 4 months. I’m ready for my 3rd season with Team Challenge, a fundraising program for the CCFA, and I’m officially moved into my first place that I purchased myself. This fall is going to rock!

  8. Amber on August 31, 2011 at 4:09 pm

I have been lurking for a couple months now. I enjoy your honest, informative, and inspirational posts. I have been looking into raw eating since reading your blog and I have learned new things about eating and exercising! Thank you!

  9. Cristin on August 31, 2011 at 4:09 pm

I actually have a question for you… what made you decide to go gluten free and how long after going gluten free did you feel a difference?

I would love to try your macaroons… they look delish!

  10. Kathy on August 31, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Aw, I love your blog Gina! I can’t believe you will be a mom by the time the Tuscan half marathon rolls around! So cute ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, I would lovee to hear more tips on packing healthy (but quick? lol) lunches for work. I know you have already posted about this, but more tips are always useful! I like to bring lunch to work but I also don’t like to spend much time packing it every night.. and I also want my lunches to be healthy!

    Hi ๐Ÿ™‚
Something fun about August: I celebrated my 27th birthday by taking the whole week off of work. Best gift to myself ever. And I came to the conclusion that I really need to figure out how I can be my own boss and work from home. I’d like to shrug this cubicle sometime soon!

  15. Alexandra on August 31, 2011 at 4:11 pm

I’m so glad I have a shop here in the UK where I can find things like coconut flour and almond milk – you wouldn’t believe how rare they are over here!!

  34. Nicole F on August 31, 2011 at 4:30 pm

I’m new to the blog world but have always had an interest in food and overall health. Your blog has inspired me to pursue my passions and maybe turn my under graduate journalism path, into a lifestyle writer : ) I’ve been hearing about a new fitness class called KOGA (a mix between kick-boxing and yoga), have you heard anything about it? I’d love to try it, I just cannot seem to find it anywhere in my area.

  35. Sarah on August 31, 2011 at 4:30 pm

It’s a really fun way to try to get yourself to do new things, because once you see it in writing it makes it seem more important or worthwhile. Always love reading your blog, and am constantly trying to incorporate little things you post (the workouts, recipes, fashion ideas, health goals, etc) into my life. Thank you!!
