Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. Itโs always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so Iโll probably do similar lists for each month ๐
Bellaโs August in a snapshot:
Hereโs what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me ๐
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didnโt happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I canโt rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didnโt practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, itโs such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, thatโs all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but Iโm superstitious and wonโt post about it until all is bueno ๐
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been โwarmedโ and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. Iโm so excited ๐
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones youโd like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didnโt happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. Iโm a floater, not a swimmer ๐
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didnโt get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I canโt wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I havenโt done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didnโt since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so Iโll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the โex boyfriendโ โ itโs funny how you miss things when you canโt do them ๐ I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything ๐
9. Go out for a girls night ๐ Iโm lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-ย we did quite a few dinners and movie nights ๐
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didnโt happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didnโt go. I did have fondue this month, though ๐
So was your August Awesome?
Hereโs one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didnโt have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I donโt think I need 3 lbs ๐
So Iโd love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

Gina,
Have been loving your blog! My August was awesomely full of wedding fun for my sister…hoping that she will soon be on her next adventure to motherhood, like you!
Meg
Love your blog! It’s the first one I read every morning! I love your family posts because it provides so much useful information that I hope to be using very soon! I love the Zumba song recommendations because I also teach Zumba. I would really like to see a post about the positives? and negatives of all those direct sale health companies promoting shakes, etc (Isogenix, Body by Vi). This month I have tried at least three of your “go-to” foods. Protein muffin (jury’s still out), Egg puff (yum!), and overnight oats breakfast cookie (YUM!). Thanks for all the great tips and fun reading!
i luv anything baby related!! hope you keep up with the family page even after your daughter is born!!
August was definitely a great month! I was able to see my boyfriend who is in the army for a whole week. Also, I celebrated my grandma’s 90th birthday! I’m so blessed!
I think instead of the macaroon giveaway, you should refer to #4, and giveaway what didn’t make the cut for your closet ๐ just kidding, i’d love some gina macaroons! and today IS my birthday.. just sayin’ ๐
August was pretty awesome (it introduced me to honey goat gouda mmm) but I’m excited for September to start. Working on my goals for the month tonight. I would love to try the Meyer lemon lavender ‘roons!
I adore your family posts and love hearing about la bambina! Keep ’em coming. Those Meyer lemon lavender macaroons sound to die for! (Ooh, or the blondies!) Just decided to serve lavender lemonade at our wedding when guests arrive- thanks for the inspiration!
I have that Raw Food, Real World book too! I love your closet, so organized – I’m inspired! I would love more fashion posts, those are fun ๐
Hi Gina-
Like some other people on here, I have been reading your blog for a while without commenting yet. This seemed like the right time!
I look forward to your posts every day, the family page is great. You have really helped me start to get back to eating right, and exercising too. My three year old son and I both love your breakfast cookie! I will say, if you are up for a half marathon 12 weeks after baby, then I will have to make some kind of big fitness goal for myself soon too. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Gina, I love your blog but don’t usually comment. I’m so excited for your new edition! ๐
I love your attitude on the blog… you are very optomistic and encouraging! You are the first blog I read on my reader each day!!
My August was pretty darn good, but boy oh boy did it fly by or what??! Just wanted to say hi, and your little Bella is just the cutest little thing! ๐
August was pretty cool for me I turned 24 years old and tonight to celebrate my boyfriend is taking me on a horse and carriage ride downtown:) I also started my senior year of my undergraduate school career so my this time next year I will officially have earned a bachelors degree and hopefully be on my way to graduate school to earn my masters. I would love to try your chocolate almond butter maceroons they look so yummy!
Hi! I am loving all of the baby talk and watching your little one grow! You and the Pilot are such a cute couple and such an inspiration! My boyfriend and I are getting engaged soon (soon!?! I hope! We looked at rings!) and reading about you two (or three, rather…or four if you include Bella!) makes me so excited. Plus, I’m vegetarian and the boyfriend loves anything meaty, greasy and huge, so your blog always reassures me that I can keep both of us happy!
August was great! I relocated back to my hometown, graduated with my PhD, started my new job as a professor in a Nursing/Pharm program and bought a house. Busy busy! Love the fashion and family posts in addition to the obvious food! I would LOVE more baby and raw foods posts! LOVE the blog!
Hey Gina. I live in Tuscon and love your posts about “local” stuff. Too bad I haven’t run into you yet…we know lots of the same from the Ranch. I would love chocolate chip almond butter ‘roons.
Hi Gina! Whenever I get into either a fitness or food rut, I go back and re-read many of your blog posts! You just have such a great way to motivate others and help us to be the best we can be! I sincerely thank you for that!! Looking forward to September!!
Gina ๐
Another ‘roon giveaway? Yea!! I’d love to try your chocolate almond butter variety.
My August was also awesome- unemployed and laying by the lake ๐
My August was not great.. But Here is to a GREAT September. ๐
Yum! I need some ‘roons… ๐
I’d love to see more fashion posts! Love those!
Pizooooooookie. Now I have a craving!
Hmm you’ve inspired me to make 5 September goals. Thanks!
So which cookbook did you try in August? Did you like it?
I am a firm believer that writing down goals can really help you reach them. My goal for august was to try yoga and once I did I could not stop! I go almost everyday and I only wish I had tried it sooner. I hope you get back into yoga soon, its just so awsome not to practice!!!
Would love to see more raw recipes…I’m not a raw foodist by any means, but think it is so interesting and I’d like to experiement!
I love your blog and trying new workouts, but I wish it was easier to find the little ones from the past – before I discovered this gem!
love your blog! always great food/fitness ideas! you look adorable pregnant, btw.
My august was awesome because I went to Myrtle Beach for 2 weeks with my boyfriend. Ohhh how I miss the beach! Thanks for doing the giveaway ๐
Love the blog and of course the look of your famous macaroons! Especially like the family and fashion posts!
I have just started reading your blog recently and love it! (I have been eating macaroons my whole life and love them too!)
I would love some roons! I don’t really have any feedback so I’ll just say hi ๐ And I love bella and viesa.
I love reading about the future fitnessista. I also really like when you do video posts (the one where your brothers couch collapsed was excellent!) Keep em coming!
I’ve loved reading your family posts and seeing how you are enjoying your new home!
My August was pretty awesome, but my September will be even better. I’m getting married and going on our honeymoon – that my fiance planned. Total surprise! I cannot wait!!
Love your blog, I wouldn’t change a thing- I like the different categories, it’s fun Monday morning (If I’ve missed it over the weekend) to click on each link and see what’s new! Especially the baby news ๐
I love the Fashion page! More of that please ๐
I love the family page ๐
I love the fashion posts a ton!! My August was pretty great- lots of changes- but Im super excited for fall, my favorite season!
I would love to try your macaroons. I would like to make them but no dehydrator for me. Can they be baked?
My August was pretty great, but I’m glad it’s over– I had a work project that was mentally & physically grueling; I’m glad it’s off the ground so I can refocus on other things, like planning my wedding!
I would love to see moving tips from you– my man & I are moving across the country next year & it’s never to early to start gathering info!
August was good but I’m looking forward to September!
Hey Gina! Love your blog, as always. ๐ I love your “Focus On” posts, looking forward to more!
I decided I was going to run a marathon this month and am super excited to put my mind and body to the test
Loved the august goal list!! Didn’t quite do as well as you did, but like you said, great for motivation! Also LOVING on the family page Gina ๐
I would love to see more in home workout routines. I love your challenges and usually do those workouts. Yay for giveaways…especially cookies! I never win these things but here’s to hoping!!
Hi Gina! I was at HLS, but I didn’t get the chance to introduce myself to you. ๐ Anyways, I like reading your blog advice posts, and I’m a sucker for chocolate macaroons!
I’ve been following your Blog for awhile now and I think this is my 2nd time to ever post on it!! Actually reading the things that you have to say, gave me the confidence to sign up & start taking my first group fitness class EVER (Pilates, which I LOVE btw)… My fave thing about August was, that we took our kids for their first beach vacation to PCB, and it was wonderful to just sit and relax!! Oh & one more thing~ you have me totally addicted to goat cheese!! LoL!! I would love, love, love to have some chocolate almond butter roons!!
I luv the family posts.. i think they are a great addition to ur blog!
I’ve been reading your blog for over a year now and can’t believe time has gone by so fast. Reading your blog reminds me to slow down and do things for ME. I love to try your recipes when I have a chance (I’m a grad student and teaching assistant, so pretty busy). Your recent post about the asparagus, quinoa and chicken didn’t list the method for making the asparagus, though it appears you may have baked them. What is your favorite way to make them? I’ve only ever pan cooked them, but sometimes I don’t have time for even that. Suggestions?
Love your make it awesome posts! I took your post as inspiration to set a fitness goal post pregnancy! Thanks!
would love to try macaroons. Read your blog everyday. Thanks for posting often.
