Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. It’s always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so I’ll probably do similar lists for each month 😀
Bella’s August in a snapshot:
Here’s what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me 😉
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didn’t happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I can’t rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didn’t practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, it’s such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, that’s all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but I’m superstitious and won’t post about it until all is bueno 😉
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been “warmed” and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. I’m so excited 😀
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones you’d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didn’t happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. I’m a floater, not a swimmer 😉
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didn’t get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I can’t wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I haven’t done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didn’t since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so I’ll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the “ex boyfriend” – it’s funny how you miss things when you can’t do them 😉 I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything 🙂
9. Go out for a girls night 😀 I’m lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out- we did quite a few dinners and movie nights 🙂
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didn’t happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didn’t go. I did have fondue this month, though 😉
So was your August Awesome?
Here’s one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didn’t have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I don’t think I need 3 lbs 😉
So I’d love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

Reading your goals is very motivating! It is good to have something to work towards. I tend to procrastinate. I need to figure out what need to happen/change in my life and just DO IT. Thanks for the nudge.
Love reading your blog & those ‘roons always look so good 😉
Girl, just keep doing what you’re doing! Your enthusiasm for fitness and healthy eats is absolutely contagious. I got home from school today absolutely beat, but after checking your blog, I’ve just decided to get off my butt and do a NROLFW workout. 🙂
more baby posts please!! Not to be creepy, but I just love seeing all the outfits and room decor. =D
Love the workouts you post 🙂
Happy Sept. to ya!
You’re blog is so great and so inspirational! It keeps me on track daily and even inspired me to begin a blog for UNC’s Campus Rec. It will be out soon. And your breakfast cookie is the best pre-class breakfast! Keeps me full til lunch 🙂
I would love to hear more about how you are changing your fitness routines during your pregnancy. I am thinking about starting a family and am concerned about how that will change my current exercise routine. I am super active and want to maintain that throughout my pregnancy but in a safe way.
I have really been enjoying the home deco posts! I got a lot of great suggestions for my apartment on the one about the master bedroom. So guess I would like you to keep doing those whenever you get a chance.
But really, I just want to say thanks! Between zumba and bikram, this blogged has really up my fitness.
I love reading your goals. They help motivate me to reassess my revolutions and keep striving for my own goals.

Lemon lavender sounds like heaven in a roon!
I’d love more recipes! 🙂
august rocked because i finally got to work with patients at the school’s clinic and do my first surgery (puppy castration). i’m a vet student, and up until now, its been a lot of hardcore science. happy fuzzy animals – it just doesn’t get any better than that. 🙂 ~tina
My August and summer was pretty awesome. I had so much fun hanging with my best friends who are both moving in September (this weekend). I had a blast going to the beach, the farmers market and trying new recipes.
Ah my favorite month of all time! Besides fall when the leaves are changing! I think i enjoy August so much because my birthday takes place then! Yay for me!
And three pounds of almonds? Holy Moly! The sad part is i could devour all of them in less than 3 weeks!
LOL! Hope you enjoyed your summer!
I’d love to see more updates on your home decorations! It’s all beautiful so far! I’d especially love to see the baby’s nursery when you start putting it together : )
I love seeing your monthly goals and how you tweek them when “life” happens!
I turned 22 this month !! 🙂 and didn’t go back to school for the first time in 18 years …. august was a big month !!
I have been following your blog for several months now and love it! Would love to try some of you yummy looking macaroons!
Those macaroons look amazing as do you. Pregnancy suits you. Good luck with the remainder of your term. =D
Honestly I could not think of one thing I would change about your blog! I feel like you cover a nice range of subjects quite nicely. 🙂
I’d love to see more tips for beginners! 🙂
You are so awesome, Gina – I definitely feel the love and appriciation for us readers. 🙂 I lurrve your blog the way it is, but some more workout videos would be great! I love doing them because you always push me but in such a nice way: “You can do it – 5 more seconds!” You’re like a sweet Hispanic Jillian Michaels! (But better, of course. ;)) And I love your organizational posts/tips.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a roon! August isn’t my favorite month because it’s so hot.. is it fall yet? 🙂
soon, i hope. it’s roasting over here, too!
I love everything about your blog! The fitness tips, healthy eating recipes, motivational quotes, shenanigans, famly and fashion posts, and most of all your outlook on life! You are a rockstar and fitnessista.com is my favorite blog of all times!!
My August goal is to create an original vegan recipe, as I have been making so many of other people’s lately. I also want to stop being such a DOORMAT! I have had a stressful Summer because I let people walk all over me – so I guess my next goal is to stop being so NICE! Haha
I am so excited for baby Fitnessista to appear on the blog!
I love the workouts! More of that probably…I am a fitness junkie 😉
Love your blog and your goals! September will hopefully be an awesome one as well =)
You are a daily inspiration! I am already thinking of my September Goals
I’ve never had a macaroon! They look delicious! I love your blog! It inspires me to get off my booty everyday! (:
Your recipes are amazing. And I am now addicted to cookie dough cereal! YUM!
I would love to hear about your average grocery list at whole foods!! I’m going there this weekend for the first time (It’s a long way from home!) and I would love to see everything you get!
I’d love to see more fashion posts!
Long time reader- love your blog… I really like the family updates & fashion ones too 🙂
Happy September!
thank you for being such an inspiration. i have lost 30 lbs and have moved cities because others like yourself showed me how 🙂
Gina,
I’ve been creepily *lurking* your blog for years. Soo not in a creepy way though! haha. I truly look forward to your posts every day. Also, I adore the way you met your hubs – everytime I walk into a Starbucks, I think of your story and secretly hope that I’ll spot my own Pilot from across the room!
I have been LOVING your fashion posts lately! Im definitely not pregnant (too young for that 😉 but I love how you cater the posts to everyone! Keep on doing your thing!
I love seeing your family posts and I can’t wait to see pictures of little fitnessista!
I want to win so bad. 🙂 yum yum.
I need to start making a list like this for monthly goals. I have running specific goals, but nothing otherwise. great idea!
I love the blog, thank you for always keeping it positive and energetic! I’d love to keep reading about your cooking and recipes as I’ve tried a few and love them!
I’m dying to try your roons! And wanted to let you know, once the baby comes, every aspect if your life revolves around that child, and if ur blog became more kid focused, like a baby/ momma/ fitness/ good eats kinda thing I wouldnt be mad 🙂 you have posted a few times about not everyone wanting to read the family stuff, but as your life changes allow everything to follow and adapt. Even if you lose a few readers, I’m sure you will maintain a great following and maybe add a few more momma readers to the mix 🙂
madewell also has some adorable denim for the fall! i love your checklist for august…maybe i can try for a few of those during the month of september? PS i adore your bangs 🙂
Smoking Crayolas Blogspot
Hi, Gina! I keep hearing about these macaroons. I would love to try the chocolate version. My August went well. Another year older and wiser! 🙂
Love reading the blog every day. Your writing style is so open and motivating. My August was awesome. I finished preparing for completing my yoga teacher training. The classes start again on Friday and I will be a certified yoga teacher on 9/11!
I would kill for some macaroons right now! Performed my first surgery ever on Monday so it’s been a crazy stressful week!
So I am in MA and was hit by Hurricane Irene on Sunday and lost power from Sunday at 11a until about 30 minutes ago! You realize how much you use things (dishwasher, vacuum, washing machine, etc.) when you can’t use them! I have never wanted to vacuum so much in my life! I feel so thankful to have a safe home to live in, family who loves me and my health. I feel so awful for others who still do not have power in other areas of MA, as well as other states. I was so excited to sit on my couch and read your blog Gina that I charged my computer for 30 minutes, powered up and started to catch up on your blog! I would love love love to try roons, especially your’s! They sound and look soooooo yummy!! 🙂 Have to go catch up on the rest of your posts that I have missed in the last few days. So excited to see the house warming went well! You, the Pilot, baby to be Fitnessista and Bella are too cute!!
More makeup tips please! Love the fashion and fitness but would love to have some quick fabulous makeup tips included in the fashion posts.
thanks for the giveaway! and thanks for your blog-love it!
Loved the idea of doing August goals and then following up at the end of the month. 🙂
I want those ‘roons! Pretty pretty please!! =)
