Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. It’s always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so I’ll probably do similar lists for each month 😀
Bella’s August in a snapshot:
Here’s what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me 😉
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didn’t happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I can’t rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didn’t practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, it’s such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, that’s all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but I’m superstitious and won’t post about it until all is bueno 😉
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been “warmed” and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. I’m so excited 😀
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones you’d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didn’t happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. I’m a floater, not a swimmer 😉
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didn’t get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I can’t wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I haven’t done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didn’t since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so I’ll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the “ex boyfriend” – it’s funny how you miss things when you can’t do them 😉 I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything 🙂
9. Go out for a girls night 😀 I’m lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out- we did quite a few dinners and movie nights 🙂
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didn’t happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didn’t go. I did have fondue this month, though 😉
So was your August Awesome?
Here’s one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didn’t have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I don’t think I need 3 lbs 😉
So I’d love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

See ya later today with a Fashion post <3

Gina
in july i finallllllly started a blog because i finalllllllly started training for my first-ever marathon! so august has basically been dedicated to running and blogging and training and more running. however, im really big on not letting the training take over my life and knew i wanted to squeeze in as many visits with family and friends as possible, so i took the approach of following the least aggressive training plan hal higdon had to offer. will i win the race come marathon day? no. but will i finish? yes. and i will finish happy knowing i fit (no pun intended, bahaha) it all in!
Hi Gina! I’m so excited for another roon giveaway! I’ve always thought the Meyer lemon lavender kind sounded delish! Also, I’m 11 weeks pregnant and have been loving reading your family posts. :). So great to get ideas from other moms to be! Side note, since I’m pregnant and craving sweets, I really think I should win the giveaway! 😉
I’ve enjoyed following your blog for awhile now and look forward to your updates. I have to say, I’m especially happy when it’s a pregnancy related post. It just makes me smile when families are growing. Meyer lemon lavender macaroons. They sound fantastic. I’d love to give them a try.
Just wanted to let you know how excited I am for you on your little nuggette. Cannot wait to hear her name! I have read your blog since I lived at Fort Bragg and realized you had been there as well. Kept checking back for updates on babies and finally saw it a few months ago!! Couldn’t be more happy for you and the Pilot.
I love that you own it when your goals don’t happen. This happens to me all the time, and it may sound like a lame-o excuse but sometimes I just forget! Its embarassing to have the “oh, right, I was going to try a new fitness class this month” moment but it happens. Now I try to leave myself notes 🙂
Thanks, as always, for being an inspiration!
I look forward to reading your blog every day, you are such an inspiration! 🙂
Hey! I’m getting married in a month, any advice I should know:)?
I love your fashion posts! My fun for this August was visiting with friends at the beach..something we rarely get to do because we live 3 states away from them! Also love the house.. It is gorgeous!
I’d love to see some reviews of the cookbooks you have – anything about specific dishes you tried and how you liked them 🙂 I like to have cookbook reviews before I buy the book!
Gina – I love following your pregnancy and healthy living on your blog and I would love to try your macaroons! Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever had any macaroon!
Mmmm I’ve never experienced a macaroon before. Sounds delicious!
oooo….GINA ‘ROONS!!! How exciting 🙂
I love reading your family posts! You mentioned that you wanted to practice more yoga, and that inspired me to actually TRY yoga for the first time….I tried Bikram Yoga, and am happy to report that I’m in LOVE with it-and THAT is why my August was awesome!
I am going to be insanely not helpful and say I love your blog just as it is! It’s one of my favorites and I read it last when I have to clean up my Google Reader (save the best for last, I guess). Would love to try your ‘roons, too!
this post just reminded me how much I need to scope out new jeans for fall
I’m sad that aug is over…that just means summer is almost over. I’m def going to miss summer produce! My Aug was great… I worked more and lost 4 lbs! I’m suppose to lose 1 lb/wk so I think i did me good. 🙂
For sept, I’m looking forward to a family vacay in Orlando, FL for my nephew’s 1st bday! that’s this coming weekend! yayyyy! Have a wonderful day Gina!
Your blog is awesome already…Just keep doing what yer doing. 🙂
The parts of my August that were awesome were the weekends – I’m living in a different state than my honey and have only been seeing him on the weekends. The weekdays have been rough, but I sure do appreciate what we have a whole lot more come Friday night!
Love all the updates, family, fashion etc! My August was great because I got a new mountain bike and have been hitting the trails like crazy 🙂
I would love to see a post on the Tabata method of training….maybe post a sample workout. I’d be curious to read your thoughts on it. And of course, i love your family posts! Always like to read more of those!
I love J Brand Jeans!!! I just came across your website today and I dig it!!! Def going in my bookmarks!
I had a lovely August, no real vacation or trip away but J and I went away for the night a few weekends ago and I’ve been lucky enough to have him off work the past couple weekends so I could hang with him & that’s all I need for a good August!
Ahhh macaroons! I love your blog, Gina! It’s usually the first one I read when I open up my Reader. I love all the topics you focus on … fitness, eats, fashion, & family. I’m inspired by all!
I have never ever had a macaroon…is that weird?!?!
Ps – I love your pregnancy updates! You look fabulous and you and the Pilot are adorable! Can’t wait to see a pic of your baby girl!
I need a another butt busting workout! Is it possible to work your butt with mat exercises?
I have no suggestions. I just love reading your blog, my favorite part of August was having dinner parties with my friends!
My August was awesome in a lot of ways, but the two MAYJAH ones were: Completing RA training at my college. And I went to the beach almost everyday. Success!!
Congrats on having a pretty awesome August!!
August was awesome–rested, visited family in Vancouver, and now I’m sitting at my desk back at school! Summer flew by, but it was really great and I’ve been excited to come back and see my little students (well…they’re high school, so they’re not little). Your blog is one of probably three I read multiple times on a daily basis…it’s been about a year now! I love it here 🙂
Which half is it? The Havasu half? I saw a couple others in Tucson, but they were in Nov. and Dec. I may have to keep that in mind…(psst, did I tell you that I have $400 in free delta dollars from a flight this summer they botched? Need to use it before next June…hmmm) 😉
Thanks for sharing your pregnancy. After 2 losses this year, we are on a break but I’m enjoying following along with yours. 🙂
Oh My, I would LOVE to try on of your macaroons, especially the chocolate-almond butter ones! Maybe it’ll convince be to buy a dehydrator too!
I look forward to each of your posts. I really enjoyed the August goals. Just keep doing what you’re doing with the blog 🙂
I love reading your pregnancy posts 🙂
I also tried to follow your list and my favorite part was picking up a new cookbook… Skinny Bitch recipes. I have yet to try anything, but they all look delicious. Thanks for the inspiration. I have to share this with someone who loves TJ’s as much as me… I’m going to North Carolina for a week and my first stop when I get off the plane is TJ’s to stock up on some goodies. There isn’t one in Miami, which is probably a blessing and disguise because I’d eat dried mangoes for all of my meals, so I’m always excited when I go somewhere where one is located. Here’s to a great September! 🙂
Awesome August:
Not only would I absolutely love to try your macaroons, I’m also excited to tell you why my August was so amazing! I finally stopped denying that my current job isn’t the right one for me, embraced the job market, and have been applying for new jobs like crazy! I recently heard back that I have two interviews coming up and I couldn’t be more happy! Fingers crossed for a superb September!
PS: Congratulations on the beanette!
Gina…you define fabulosity. I ALWAYS look forward to your posts. Keep doing exactly what you are doing because you really can do NO wrong in my eyes.
August really was awesome! …sure would be nice to end it with some macaroons, though 😉
Right now I’m road tripping down the east coast- went to kath’s bakery in Charlottesville! It was great to meet a blogger! I think I was kind of starstruck?
i would love to win some ‘roons one of these days!!
I didn’t make goals for August, which i maybe should have, but its all good. I’m thinking of making September goals though. Fall is coming, so the weather is turning out really nice, which means we can get out more for runs and bike rides ( i did 20K yesterday)
My August was pretty awesome : ) I went on a lovely week long beach vacation for the first time in 3 years and I ran my first 5K race, two races actually, and placed for my age group in both~I’d never won a trophy before and now I have two, I know not very thrilling for most but super awesome for this beginning runner!
Gina, I used to be really squeamish about baby stuff… But I ADORE your blog and had to keep reading it. Before I knew it I was checking the Family page as often as your homepage! Thanks for making motherhood/babies/pregnancy less scary 🙂 Keep up everything you are doing, it’s all a good balance!!
Hi! I am actually really glad that August is over. It was a terrible month for me personally though the one thing that did happen and I enjoy is that I started really getting into my blog and it has now turned out to be the greatest thing I have done in years. I love it. So I will keep blogging into September but I will try to change a lot of other things this September. Starting with – more raw food! I loved your raw cookbook collection. Could you do a post on thhe books you recommend for raw food?
My August was filled up with nursing school, but in a few days I’ll be on a road trip with my sister and couldn’t be more excited!
Sounds like your August really has been amazing! I’ve said it before, but I love reading about how you and Tom compromise and eat together. As a vegetarian newlywed with a carnivorous hubby who grew up on a cattle farm, it’s always fun and helpful to see other couples who seem to be working out the mealtime compromise together.
ive never had a macaroon..they always look so amazing id love to try them!!
i think your blog is awesome…i always love when you put up new workouts and recipes are always fun!!
Hi Gina! Well I love everything you post – but especially the “Something To Think About” quotes at the end. I also love the reader’s requests and just your thoughts on certain ‘diets’ or food and workouts. You’re full of information!!
I love everything that you post about! Anything from daily life to your fashion life to your baby belly haha <3 Maybe more on what your job is like? It seems like such an interesting field and you're actually a big person who inspired me to get my bachelors in health&nutrition and start working in the same field 🙂
August was awesome indeed! I moved to a new city and started a new job. I love the idea of how to make your month awesome, you should do it every month! I’m going to try it too.
i’ve been enjoying your posts about your midwife group and your birth plan views! my husband and i are nowhere near ready for a baby, but it’s been interesting to learn some things from you that i was never aware of before. when we do plan for a family, i’ll have some added background knowledge and be able to look into a wider scope of options because i was introduced to them here!
I enjoyed reading your daily activities this month! You always motiviate me to get moving, because you seem to do soooo much everyday! Also, I loooove my job, but I don’t think I loooooooove it as much as you love yours. I wish I had the courage to go after the job I really want. But I think that will have to wait (I just moved and switched jobs, so I’m broke!) 🙂
I did, however, have a productive month. 1. I moved to Houston, 2. Got a new job, 3. Unpacked everything in ONE WEEK (I know you’ll appreciate that lol), 4. Started (and stuck to) a new eating plan, and 5. tried some new awesome recipes! Something else I’d like to add to this list of August accomplishments? A feast of macaroons!! 🙂
Oh my goodness – your macaroon giveaways are always the best!!! I love the blog and can’t wait to see the little nugget on the fitnessista – once she(!) makes her arrival!
Mmm I can’t seem to get enough coconut lately. Coconut macaroons sound amazing right now!
